This week in fantasy baseball there is no shortage of two-start pitchers. A plethora of names that are interesting and an equal amount of names I want no parts of. My prediction of Marcus Stroman “The Rubberband Man” pitching a No-Hitter did not come to fruition, he only made one start, and it was his worst of the season.
The second coming of Carlos Rodon still seems to be on track even though he was a bit shaky with control in his last start. None the less he struck out 9 over 5 innings and it would be wise to ride the horse until it starts bucking. There is a lot of games this upcoming week so let’s get to the rankings.

We discuss the start to the season using some of our leagues to talk about the difference in approaches and waiver wire strategies. AL/NL only leagues are a whole different world from the RCLs.
The Itch discusses how his approach has changed in the last couple years due to differences in the minor league system and how teams are using service time with prospects these days. We continue the prospect discussion by talking about some of the rookie pitchers and hitters that have started the season with their respective teams.
B_Don asks The Itch about the prospects that he expects to see called up next. The Itch drops a couple of bombs on B_Don as they close the show out about some of the game’s top prospects.

Top 25 Fantasy Second Basemen: Week 4

The start of the baseball season is fascinating because you can quickly see which owners are quick to ditch players and which owners believe in the slow and steady approach.
For dynasty leagues, owners are conditioned to ride out the slow starts and sometimes overlook the hot streaks, knowing that by the end of the season the good players will likely be good and the fringe players will likely be back on the fringes.
But for non-dynasty owners, being quick to react can be the difference between winning and losing. A lot of owners were surely thinking there is no way Yermin Mercedes would still be red-hot at the plate. But he is, and he is making those owners who snatched him up look like geniuses.
These rankings are more of a reflection of the owner’s who lead the league in adds and drops. Thanks to a hot two or three weeks, players who were barely on the radar of fantasy players are now Top 10 second baseman. Meanwhile, expected studs such as Ozzie Albies, DJ LeMahieu and Brandon Lowe would be on the free-agent scrap heap if not for their name and track history.
So let’s see who has been red-hot and moved up the rankings and let’s find out how far Albies, LeMahieu and Lowe have fallen.

After going off in the first two weeks, Week 3 was extremely annoying. The weather just obliterated all of the rotations, and it didn’t even seem like most of my streamers faced their projected matchups. We discussed how Mother Nature could do cruel things, and she was downright evil to us last week. In any case, we still got a few solid performances, but I expect better from myself. That has me motivated to have a huge week here, and I can’t wait to get these streamers out there. With that in mind, let’s get into our streamers of the week!

FanDuel: A Pitcher List And A Prayer

Hello again and welcome back to our 4th installment of DFS Sundays. Today we have a shizz-ton of games on the FanDuel slate. Which means we have a double shizz-ton of pitchers. Funny enough, there were more elite starting pitchers in yesterday’s Yankees vs. Indians (2) game then there are in 15 games today (none). With no pitcher over 10k we will have to spread the love. That also means ownership will be down and there probably wont be any one SP over 15% owned. I smell opportunity, or maybe that’s just me, I started showering at night instead of the morning recently. The list of probable starters is like a who’s who of 3rd starters and young guys trying to prove themselves. Luis Patino has his first start of the year for Tampa. Considering I have invested some money in his rookie cards, you’d think I have motivation to start him. Unfortunately, you can’t trust the Rays to let Blake Snell pitch 5 innings in the World Series during a dominate start, there is no way Patino is going to go deep. Well, no way we can bet on it at least. No worry, there are still many more intriguing options on todays slate. Since there are so many guys without there being any clear #1, I am going to give you a list of who I will be going with in my handful of GPP and cash game lineups.

The injuries, the Big Hurt! No, we are not talking about Frank Thomas, but rather how we evaluate all the early season injuries. From Christian Yelich to George Springer to Cody Bellinger to Fernando Tatis Jr. to Ketel Marte…Shall I go on? The top hitters have been ravaged by injuries this year placing uncertainty on the names that we invested in for reliable production. At this point, there is so much unknown that many of these players will see a slight or no drop in their ranking. If I project them to be out for 2-4 weeks, then there may be a slight drop due to the production that can be lost. I have always fallen into the trap for the buy-low injury-prone player, but that is a rollercoaster best left alone.

What is up DFS fans? Every team is scheduled to play today, although some storms and rain might cause some delays. It’s an elite day for starting pitchers, so you’ll probably want to diversify your lineups in the hopes that one of the lesser-owned pitchers has a great outing that gives your rosters the edge in GPP tournaments. True story: I was in hour 13 of my sweat lodge escape, preparing for my naked vision quest into the wilds of Minnesota where I would sacrifice my blood and body to the early spring mosquitoes in return for fantasy baseball wisdom when Donkey Teeth suddenly appeared before me. Shimmering and translucent, the visage of Donkey Teeth spoke to me: “Dan Pants has been hired to fit Robby Ray for new, tighter pants.” I knew exactly what this meant: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! I left the sweat lodge immediately, leaving my clothes and wallet behind, catching a ride with a friendly truck driver to the nearest McDonald’s where I could find some WiFi and do the Friday update. Kinda just want to quote all the delicious bits of tid I wrote in my Alex Kirilloff fantasy this offseason. Can I do that? It’s so good! Okay, here’s a few quick quotes, “Alex Kirilloff caught fire… in a Hot Girl Summer…in case you didn’t hear…I’m a…guy.” Hmm, those quote pulls aren’t so great. Will work on my ability to pull quotes in the future. So, go there and read that post if you want to know about Kirilloff. Nothing’s changed, except now I think he will be up today vs. early June, as I thought back in November. Actually, I think it, because it’s a fact. With Sano hitting the IL with “in not the greatest of shape,” Kirilloff was called up. So, let’s talk serious facts and stop jibber-jabbering on the yimmer-yammering, Alex Kirilloff could be Alex Verdugo from the moment he’s called up until the end of the season. Today, it’s all Alex talk. “Alexa, who’s more all Alex than other Alexes?” “I’m sorry, Grey, but that’s just nonsense.” “Okay, Alexa, can you tell me if they make spanx for men, maybe Manx?” “I’m sorry, Grey, but I quit.” Wow, this AI sucks. The Twins were playing arbitration games with Kirilloff, pretending Jake Cave was an outfielder, when he sounds like an off-brand Marvel character, but now that Kirilloff is up, he is a grab in all leagues. By the way, Arbitration Games was a great Backstreet Boys song. “Quit playin’ arbitration games with my heart…my heart.” Anyway, here’s some more players to Buy or Sell this week in fantasy baseball:
That pun is so good, I don’t even feel bad for never seeing the movie. I have read the book though, and while my generational weirdness for doing it reverse should be questioned, I do want to point out that in my defense, I have no way to tie any of this into the gist of this post. (Your mom’s a gist.) So without having to mash the keyboard and hoping I can somehow take you from a wonderful pun straight into the lede and make it all feel connected, we’ve saved some time by just describing what I would have done. Something like that. Look, this is a two-minimum drink lede that technically went nowhere. Well, I mean, we did technically scroll down a bit to get here, but I can’t fathom typing up another paragraph commenting on that distinction.
So spoilers aside (Winker to the moon!), I’ve been digging what Winker has been doing. Fourth grade writing level aside, the season is still young, but some trends are emerging, or perhaps that stage between not emerging and emerging. Sorta-merging maybe. Specifically, Jesse Winker has been able to start the season hot, but perhaps more importantly, has only been able to get hot by carving some playing time out of a crowded outfield. To the numbers!
