We struggled in Week 19, but we bounced back last week. All of our streamers did well outside of Zach Littell, and he didn’t even kill your lineups. That has me ready to keep rolling here, but it was a tough week to pick hitters. It’s hard to understand why because we have 10 teams […]

The first week of school is in the rearview, and the baseball landscape looks different than when it started. I’m sad about Shohei and wondering whether we’ll ever hear another word about Wander. I’m happy to see Seattle surge back into the division lead. The game would benefit from having a young star like Julio Rodriguez in the playoffs. Baltimore has young stars, too, but it’s hard to root for the bank account of a guy like John Angelos, who’s using his team’s season in the spotlight to call attention to himself, relishing his nepo-baby summer.

With nine home runs in 15 Triple-A games, Rockies C Hunter Goodman has pushed his season total up to 34 bombs in 106 games across two levels. He’ll be a popular sleeper pick in draft and hold leagues this winter and could quickly assert himself as a top ten fantasy option if he’s given enough time to get acclimated to the major league level.

Every season there are numerous breakouts that find their way to fantasy relevance.  The biggest values are the players without crazy pre-season hype.  In 2023, we have seen players like Matt McLain, Josh Lowe and Spencer Steer provide under the radar big time production.  Between this group, we have three guys that are driving their real world teams and fantasy teams towards the playoffs with very different hitting profiles.  However, each guy had proven little at the major league level prior to 2023.  This week, we are going to go under the covers of each of these unsuspecting breakouts using their Baseball Savant profiles to identify a potential doppelgänger for the rest of the 2023 season that could really breakout in 2024.

Welcome back to yet another edition of Top Dynasty Keepers. One the field there has been some great baseball played and teams that are proving they are for real this year, meaning there will be a host of good pennant races shaping up for September.

There have also been some players who are proving they should be top dynasty keepers.

This week I want to visit with a player I highlighted earlier this season and one who is new to the Top Dynasty Keepers spotlight. The first player I’ll talk about is Houston catcher Yainer Diaz, while Ezequiel Tovar of the Rockies is the second player.

Diaz is a player I featured back in June. But I want to circle back to him because he is apparently not receiving the love I think he should. Despite being one of the best hitting backstops in the majors, he is available in 44% of Yahoo leagues, 79% of ESPN leagues and 40% of Fantrax leagues.

That doesn’t make any sense, because he has basically been an everyday player since June. While only appearing in 10 games in April and 12 in May, he played in 21 games in both June and July and now 19 games in August.

The Ghost of George Steinbrenner stands with the Ghost of Billy Martin, discussing how when you’re dead, they realize, you can see the future. They decide the best way to communicate this future they see, where the earth is ablaze, is through a medium. The medium’s name is Aaron Boone. After an elaborate seance with lots of candles, they realize they are not witnessing the future, but they are actually in hell. The Ghost of Billy Martin says, “The heat does help with the hangover.” Then they ask the medium how the Yanks are doing. Aaron tells them, and Billy punches him, while George fires him. With that guy gone, they take over control of the team and the Ghost of Billy and George bring up, Everson Pereira. The other day I said Pereira could be better than Volpe. (That was meant as a compliment.) Itch’s said, “Pereira strikes out a lot for a premium prospect, but he makes enough impact that he could still catch on as a regular without making significant gains in the contact department. If he does figure out how to strike out less than the 30-ish percent rates he’s carried throughout his career, the 6’0” 191 lb Pereira will lay waste to the pitchers in his path. He’s not a burner but stole 21 bases in 28 attempts across two levels and should be able to chip in 10-plus big-league steals without much trouble. Or ‘good trouble’ like beating up Grey.” Okay, not cool. Speaking of not cool, during this time of year it’s better to go with a vet, who is hot, then a guy brought up by two guys who are hot as hell, but Everson could be rostered in all leagues looking for a power/speed upside play the final month-plus. Anyway, here’s some more players to Buy or Sell this week in fantasy baseball:
