We’re all about the groins this week as Grey and yours truly reach around MLB to get a handle on the top stories. Guess what? All the top stories are about GROINS!!! But in all cereal-ness, we don’t get soggy in milk, and we take you through the plague of injuries throughout MLB. We discuss the DL stints of Clayton Kershaw, Johnny Cueto, Jacob deGrom, Miguel Cabrera, and Jake Lamb. The rest of the show is dedicated to a celebration of diversity. No, that’s not right, it’s actually just Grey and I talking Jake Faria’s renaissance, Domingoat German’s Sunday start, Walker Buehler’s long term value, and our thoughts on Mike Soroka’s first two MLB starts. 1. K2H says:

Love the podcast’s thanks for the great work
Who would you rather invest in Yordan Alvarez or Brent Rooker?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

@K2H: Yordan by a mile. What that kid is doing at 20 in AA is not natural. He’s got all fields pop like Freddie Freeman.

  2. Turd Wendell says:

Excited to see my Phils called up Seranthony Dominguez. You like this, kid Ralph?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

@Turd Wendell: Yeah great fastball, nice breaking ball, looks like he can develop into a closer. Saw him pitch early in the season back in 2017.

  3. Count de Monetballl says:

Ha! The championship shirt only comes in “Grey”!!!

  4. DeerHeadGhost says:

    Hey Ralph,

Osuna just got arrested. Crazy stuff. You think Oh is the stand-in or is it a closer by committee?

    Thanks for the podcast!

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

@DeerHeadGhost: Maybe Tepera and Clippard are interesting names. Clippard is dealing right now.

  5. jose says:

    Thanks Ralph,
Nice report on my boys Buehler and Soroka. Soroka was missing location on a lot of pitches on his last game, you could see the catcher ask for low and away and he was going up middle, plus the umpire had a tight strike Zone on both pitchers.

Alex Reyes is starting a rehab in the next few days on Palm Beach.

My pitchers were promoted in the last couple weeks, now is time for my hitters. Austin Riley got promoted to AAA . Now it is time for Eloy Jimenez and soon after Julio Urias, they are ready.
    What do you think?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

      @jose: Agree on Soroka.

      Saw that.

Riley will log some time at AAA, with maybe an eye on a mid-July promotion if things go well, and ATL is hanging around. Eloy could be up this summer, but what is the incentive for the White Sox?

As far as I know Urias is not throwing yet is he?

      • jose says:

        @Ralph Lifshitz:
I was wrong, I was thinking of Luis Urias and wrote Julio. Julio is supposed to get on a pitching mound soon. He said that during the Monterrey Dodgers series. He won’t be ready until at least July.

As for Jimenez I was thinking AAA for a while, like Riley. Luis is ready now and there is not much blocking him.

        • Ralph Lifshitz

          Ralph Lifshitz says:

@jose: Yeah, Urias could be up at anytime. If Galvis goes down they might promote him.

  6. Steve says:

    Hey Ralph,

Can you please rank: Hanson, L. Gurriel, Alford?

You mentioned Alford but wondering if the other two are better options for UTIL in 14T h2h

Also, when do you think Eloy gets a shot? Time to stash him?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

      @Steve: Alford, Gurriel, and Hanson.

I love Alford, and don;t think much of Hanson.

Likely July or August on Eloy. What’s the rush for the Chi-Sox?

  7. JP says:

Hey Ralph- old school 4×4 I have an owner who is looking to acquire pitching in exchange for Brandon Marsh (he knows I like him). 12 team AL root $300 salary I own German, clevinger, Barria, and Junis all for $5 and Pomeranz for $4. I love Marsh. Would you deal any pitcher he wanted in order to acquire him? I assume Clevinger would be the target. Thanks Ralph and by the way Marsh would have a $2 salary for two years after he came up. Whenever he comes up.

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

@JP: Clevinger is the only absolute hold for me. I’d like to hold Junis too, but if that’s the deal breaker for Marsh I’m shipping Junis.

  8. Dr Sauce says:

    Hey Ralph,
Love your insight, hoping for some confirmation on a couple of pitchers. A few young pitchers have shown up on waivers that both you and Grey were somewhat bullish on at the beginning of the season; Jose Berrios and Luke Weaver. You and Grey both had Berrios inside the top 30 and Grey was a little higher on Weaver but you still had him at 40ish.

First have you watched either of these guys pitch this year? Just curious how they are looking from the ‘eye’ test. Have you had an opportunity to dive into analytics on either or both of these guys. For example, velocity, FIP, XFIP etc. type information. They both seemed to start the year strong but their last several starts have been not so great.
Next and simpler question; are these guys worth a pick up? Right now back end rotation dudes (cut candidates) are Newcomb, Domingo German, Soroka and potentially a guy like Middleton (not sure his stautus) and Ken Giles. Thoughts?? Thanks in advance.

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

@Dr Sauce: Berrios has been up and down, but he’s 100% worth an add over Soroka.

I’d probably go Weaver over German too, but I can see how you might want to hold off, and would advise you do. However, keep an eye on Weaver. He’s having trouble throwing strikes at the moment.

In the end… Cream rises to the top.

      • Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo says:

@Ralph Lifshitz: sorry, this is common in grey’s posts. steve’s got it. should’ve typed the whole nickname christ newtown, that’d have probably helped it along.

        • Ralph Lifshitz

          Ralph Lifshitz says:

@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: I must have missed that one! Hahaha, yeah drop him.

  10. Play Ball says:

Buehler or Soroka ROS in a standard, season-long roto league (K/QS/ERA/WHIP)?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

      @Play Ball: Buehler

  11. Joe says:

Hey Ralph I’m in 12 team dynasty league 7×7 keep 30. Need to have at least 10 NA guys on a team at all times. 5 dL spots.

I wanted to get your evaluation of my entire team and let me know where to improve. I already feel I need to add a quality arm. Also if you were to drop or trade anyone who would be at the top of that list for you.

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

@Joe: Where do you need to improve? Well you don’t have Mike Trout!

      That team is dirty.

  12. Launch Angle says:

If you had to drop 2 …Schoop, Matt Adams, Buehler? Schoop and Knebel off the DL and need to make room on roster. In a standard, season-long roto league (R/HR/RBI/SB/AVG/K/QS/ERA/WHIP). I feel I need to keep four closers to keep pace with 2 or 3 other teams carrying four I’m chasing in saves.

    My roster:
    C Perez
    1B Freeman
    2B Merrifield
    3B Arenado
    SS Bregman
    OF Trout, Springer, Judge, Pollock
    UTIL Gordon
    UTIL Abreu
    BENCH Adams, Schoop

SP Kluber, Severino, Thor, Bauer, Corbin, Pax, Buehler
    RP Doolittle, Knebel, Allen, Vasquez

    • Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo says:

@Launch Angle: i don’t want to say buehler here necessarily BUT if this is a small innings cap roto, then maybe 7 SP is overkill and he’d be one of them for sure. probably try to trade some of the hitters for condensing at hitter. i’m guessing this is a 10 teamer, yes? maybe less.

  13. James says:

Hey Ralph, with the recent news about Jay Groome going under the knife and being out until mid-2019, Is he worth holding onto in a dynasty league or should I look to add Erick Fedde, Beau Burrows, Sandy Alcantara or Mitchell White whom are all available? Thank for the great info.

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

@James: I’d go Fedde or Alcantara.
