On this day 21 years ago, our nation suffered the worst terrorist attack in our country’s history.  As a result of the attacks, 2,977 people died and thousands more were injured.  Our country soon found itself in a war in Afghanistan, and then in Iraq, which combined lasted the better part of two decades.  Thousands of American servicemen and women died during those two wars.  In some manner, directly or indirectly, every one of us has been affected by the events that began on this day, 21 years ago.  There will be commemorations all day today, across all sports, remembering the tragic events and honoring all the lives lost.  This article is no different.  Before I get to the DFS picks, I too wanted to take a moment to honor all the lives lost.  Never Forget!

Aaron Nola, SP: DK: $10,800 / FD: $11,000 – On a day where many stud pitchers are available, my cornerstone pitcher is one with a losing record.  Believe it or not, Aaron Nola’s record today sits at 9-11 (you read this right).  On the flip side, he also has a 3.35 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 16 quality starts and 200 Ks.  Everything here points to using Nola today.

Brady Singer, SP: DK: $8,700 / FD: $9,200 – Brady Singer has put together a pretty good season for the Royals this year.  Through 20 starts, Singer has a 3.38 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 125:30 K:BB rate.  His report card also shows 5 quality starts in his last 6 outings.  His last outing versus the Tigers resulted in a 43-point outing (FanDuel).  Save a few bucks here for the bats.

J.T. Realmuto, C: DK: $5,600 / FD: $3,200 – J.T. Realmuto received a much-deserved day off yesterday after playing 8 straight.  In those 8 games, J.T. slashed .308/.419/.577 with 2 HRs, 5 Rs and 7 RBIs.  This timely day off allows him to be fresh when he faces Anibal Sanchez today.  In their head-2-heads, J.T. is hitting 7-14 with 2 HRs and 8 RBIs.  Advantage J.T.

Rowdy Tellez, 1B: DK: $4,900 / FD: $2,200 – The Brewers are starting to get desperate.  If they’re going to make the playoffs, they need some of their big boys to step up.  Count Rowdy Tellez as one of their big boys, both figuratively and literally.  We know Rowdy can go on a run of games where he mashes the ball.  What better time to start than today at home versus RHP, in which he has 24 bombs and a .805 OPS.

Andres Gimenez, 2B: DK: $4,800 / FD: $3,000 – Andres Gimenez is quietly getting it done lately with 3 multi-hit games and swiping 3 bags as well.  The Twins SP, Josh Winder, has been ok for most of his starts but is not an overpowering pitcher by any means.  Edge: Gimenez and the Guardians.

Austin Riley, 3B: DK: $5,300 / FD: $4,000 – Austin Riley has become one of my favorite players to roster in DFS, especially facing LHP.  Against southpaws, Riley is slashing a cool .352/.438/.728…that’s an OPS of 1.166.  In those matchups, he’s going deep about 1 in every 14 plate appearances.  It also doesn’t hurt that he’s posted double-digit numbers in 10 of the last 14 games overall.

Willy Adames, SS: DK: $5,400 / FD: $3,000 – I really like Willy Adames today.  He matches up more favorably against RHP (22 HRs and .751 OPS) than LHP (5 HRs and .714 OPS).  Didn’t I already mention how the Brewers are getting desperate?  Reds SP, Justin Dunn, has had a tough go of it lately, giving up 8 HRs in the past month with a K:BB ratio of 18:12.  The Brewers bats will have plenty of chances today and Adames is primed to be right there for the taking.

Kyle Schwarber, OF: DK: $5,400 / FD: $xx – I recommend looking at stacking Phillies today.  For me, Kyle Schwarber will be joining J.T. in my lineups.  It’s pretty simple actually…28 of 37 HRs versus RHP and the Nationals are scheduled to run out Anibal Sanchez.

Corbin Carroll, OF: DK: $5,400 / FD: $xx – My low-cost reach today mirrors one of my reaches on Friday night during the @realDFSWars competition.  Corbin Carroll filled one of my OF positions and delivered a solo HR and walk…more than earning his low salary.  The youngster appears to be a strong-side platoon player at this early stage of his MLB career, so I’ll be going back to the well again today as he faces RHP Ryan Feltner.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

Rain is in the forecast for several games on the eastern half of the country today.  BOS @ BAL is the game projected to be most impacted by weather.  Others with a lesser chance of rain include STL @ PIT, WSH @ PHI and TB @ NYY.  Winds in KC project to help the pitchers, namely my guy Singer above.

Doing Lines In Vegas

Combing the tickers for plus odds as I always do, I see a couple potential moneyline bets to exploit.  The Marlins (+126) are at home against the Mets.  Normally, I’d shy away from this but frankly, the Mets look vulnerable right now and the Marlins are still a dangerous team.  Anything can happen in Colorado.  The Diamondbacks are rolling out Zac Gallen so the edge clearly swings toward Arizona.  BUT… anything can happen in Colorado.  If you’re up for a bit of risk, put a few bucks on the Rockies (+148).
