It certainly seems like Charlie Morton has hit the wall this year. The 39-year-old pitcher’s strike-out rate is down, the walk rate is up, and luck indicators don’t show that he’s getting unlucky. Today he’ll rate fine against a Yankees team that has continued to struggle, but I’m looking to target the big boppers.
On tonight’s DraftKings 8-game slate, the Mariners and White Sox should be popular. I like both matchups, but I’ll avoid using them together. Let’s take a look at some specific players to think about rostering.

Aaron Nola, SP: $9,000 – Nola has been a big bowl of meh all season. As one of the slowest working starters before the pitch clock, I think that there is a chance it’s affecting him more than some others. Unlike the cover boy, Morton, Nola does have some indicators that he has some better starts ahead. He’ll go pretty unnoticed on this slate and if Matt Chapman is out again, I’m going to Nola.
MacKenzie Gore, SP: $6,000 – Gore is my click-and-pray starting pitcher for today. This is simply a price play with upside potential.
Adley Rutschman, C: $4,800 – Use Orioles hitters today for great leverage against a massively owned Blake Snell.
Bryce Harper, 1B: $5,500 – Harper is a high-priced hitter with two HR upside that will be unowned. I love to mix these sorts of players into builds as one-offs and small stacks.
Gleyber Torres, 2B: $3,900 – The price never seems to match the potential of the stick. Great value for our Yankee stack.
Anthony Volpe, SS: $3,100 – Another value play in the Yankee stack.
Aaron Judge, OF: $6,000 – As I said in the intro, Judge is one of my favorite plays on the slate.
Giancarlo Stanton, OF: $4,200 – Stanton might not be able to run at times, but our hope today is that he’s trotting around all four bases a few times.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
Forecast looks clear of rain.
Doing Lines In Vegas
Let’s keep going with the theme of the article and put a bet on the Yankee’s money line. Yes, the Braves will probably score an infinite amount of runs like every day, but let’s hope the Yankees take advantage of the Morton matchup and score infinite + 1.
