Welcome back to Tuesday’s edition of FanDuel DFS here at Razzball. It’s a hot and humid day across the land with many interesting matchups. Max Scherzer ($10,600) is back in Philly for the 4th time this season, but this time he’s wearing blue. He should be the top option tonight as he battles Aaron Nola ($9,900) and the 1st place Phillies. I can see both these guys being jacked up and ready to battle, however, I can also see both offenses taking advantage of the weather. Either way, if you have the opportunity to watch this game, it should be as entertaining as August baseball can get.
Sean Manaea ($10,000) is the 2nd highest-priced arm on the road vs Cleveland. The heat index in this one is going to be over 100 degrees with over 85% humidity, so it’s not the best spot for Manaea who is having a career year. One of my go-to guys tonight is going to be rookie Logan Gilbert ($8,900) at home vs Texas. He’s been average to this point with plenty of ups and downs, but the strikeout stuff is there and the matchup is prime for a big game.

Starting Pitcher Targets
Max Scherzer, SP: ($10,600) – He’s pitched well vs the Phills this season, and in his previous 3 outings at Citizens Bank he’s yet to allow more than 1 earned run. Keeping the ball in the park will be a tougher than usual task today with the wind blowing out and close to 80% humidity. Scherzer’s price isn’t crazy and he’s the best pitcher on the board. I’m definitely going to have plenty of exposure, but if you’re building 10 lineups, a Phillies stack with one of the next few guys in your P spot could be a smart call today.
Logan Gilbert, SP: ($8,900) – His underlying numbers show he’s outperformed his surface stats. He’s got strikeout stuff as shown by his 28.2% K rate. Texas is the worst offensive team in the AL vs RHP, and basically only the DBacks are worse overall in terms of power and run production. His price and matchups will have his ownership way up, which is the only con here today. The way I see it, if you’re really feeling a pitcher to go off, ownership shouldn’t matter too much as long as you differentiate on offense.
Alex Wood, SP: ($8,600) – He’s been pretty bad his last few times out, but pitching at home vs Arizona is a top 5 matchup. He hasn’t qualified for a quality start since the beginning of July, so that’s a bit worrisome. I’m not over the moon for Alex Wood tonight, he just needs to be considered given the matchup.
First Base
Matt Olson, C/1B: ($4,300) – His price will keep his ownership down as he takes on RHP Triston McKenzie on a VERY humid day in Cleveland. He’s the highest-priced at his position for a reason. Olson mashes both righties and lefties and is a top candidate for a double dong on any given day in any park.
Andrew Vaughn C/1B (OF): ($2,700) – Griffin Jax doesn’t miss bats, gives up a ton of hard contact, and over 53% fly balls. This is another great matchup for the White Sox, though they will be highly owned. I’m going with Vaughn here over Abreu since his ownership will be much lower, but don’t be afraid to get them both in your lineup.
Second Base
Jonathan Schoop, 2B (1B): ($3,400) – I try to shy away from guys whose ownership is obviously going to be high but in this case it’s tough. Schoop crushes LHP (.356 avg, 1.031 OPS) and gets a bad one in a top hitters park with extreme humidity and the wind blowing out. As a one-off or a Tigers stack, Schoop would be a top overall play today if for some reason his ownership was 10% or below. That’s not going to happen so just keep that in mind when building your lineups.
Ty France, 2B (3B): ($3,100) – The Mariners get Kolby Allard at home tonight. They’re going to fly under the radar, and while I don’t think Seattle is a top stack, I think there are runs to be scored. France has a primo lineup spot and his numbers are way up since the break.
Third Base
Nolan Arenado, 3B: ($4,300) – Hot and humid in Pittsburgh and the Cards get Steven Brault. Don’t be afraid of the park here, this is a prime spot for St. Louis who will be low owned.
Ke’Bryan Hayes, 3B: ($3,000) – On the other side of this matchup, you have a get-right spot for Hayes vs a bad J.A. Happ. No one from this game should receive much ownership, so it’ll be a nice spot to differentiate with confidence.
Short Stop
Tim Anderson, SS: ($3,500) – I’m mentioning him for two reasons. 1. His matchup is fantastic. 2. His ownership is going to be possibly the highest amongst the field at any position. Going anywhere else at SS will get you leverage if Anderson has a mediocre day.
Corey Seager, SS: ($3,000) – Not the best matchup vs Nola, but this is the lowest his price will be from here on out. Seager seems to always be the guy people forget is awesome. Great lineup, a prime spot in the order. This game is going to go one of two ways, either both pitchers shut it down, or it’s a surprisingly high-scoring showdown.
Jonathan Villar, SS (2B/3B): ($2,600) – Paolo Espino is not as good as his numbers show. He gives up tons of contact and plenty of fly balls. Villar looks like an overlooked part of the Mets stacks tonight so we can take advantage of ownership and salary by plugging him in.
Outfield
Nick Castellanos, OF: ($3,900) – Smyly gives up plenty of hard contact and a ton of homeruns to both righties and lefties. The Reds are in a nice spot and are going way overlooked.
Nelson Cruz, OF: ($3,600) – He gets a lefty in Fenway. Need I say more?
Eloy Jimenez, OF: ($3,400) – Chalky chalk chalk. 4 homers in his last two games.
Luis Robert, OF: ($2,700) – Same reasoning as all the other White Sox. This lineup is almost back to full strength and it is scary. Like Seager, Robert’s price will likely only go up from here.
Jordan Luplow, OF: ($2,300) – He was hitting leadoff the last time the Rays faced a lefty. If that’s the case tonight in Fenway, he’s a fantastic value bat.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains
There doesn’t seem to be any worrisome spots tonight. It’s going to be humid around the country so the weather seems primed for runs. However, this hot weather with extreme humidity is ripe for pop-up thunderstorms. Keep tabs on the radar as we near lock, because things could change fast.
