Roughly three months ago, we were talking about the grave, man. Not Kendall, but the one where Luis Robert (2-for-5, 1 RBI) was placed with care next to Eloy Jimenez (2-for-4, 5 RBIs and his 4th and 5th homer). Where Yermin Mercedes later joined him, then Yasmani Grandal, then Billy Hamilton, then Adam Eaton, but who cares about him. Really, the only ones not missing time for the White Sox has been the pitching staff. I just jinxed them, didn’t I? No, I haven’t because to offset my jinx, I took a cat-o-nine-tails and whipped my back 27 times, Lucas Giolito’s uniform number. Do I have to whip myself 33 times for Lance Lynn too? I’m not asking you, I’m asking the voodoo high priestess I am Zoom’ing with! The brutal truth is I didn’t have room for Luis Robert to sit on my IL for the last three months, and I dropped him. Well, that’s not the brutal part. The 88 lashes I’m being told to administer to myself for Robert’s uniform number is the brutal part. SOMEONE SAVE ME is what I scream into a Pringles can for later. You never scream an SOS into a can, then cap it in case you can’t scream later? Hmm, weird, must be me–Any hoo! I see Luis Robert as a top 30 bat again. Unlike, say, Chris Sale, hitters don’t need as much time to get up to speed, and if Robert’s healthy, I’m all-in. As for Eloy, well, he’s a top 20 bat. He homered twice on Sunday, followed that with a different song, same verse on Monday and, if he homers twice a game from now until October, I’ll prolly just mutter about how awful Cody Bellinger is and about how I dropped Eloy when he was supposedly out all year. Absolutely owning the day and the night, Grey Albright! Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Howdy folx! Are you asleep at the wheel of your fantasy baseball teams yet? Are you imagining a world where you had a couple hundred more dollars in your pocket and didn’t start your draft with Mike Trout, Lou Bob, and Eloy? Or spend 65% of your FAAB on Huascar Ynoa? Come now, let us commiserate! We’re closing in on the most important weeks of the season while you struggle to get into that last playoff spot so you can take on the team that FAAB’d Shane McClanahan and sold high on Aroldis Garcia. Also, I’ve moved on from the Greinke graphic. See ya later Zack!

League trade deadlines are approaching. If you are in a league with move limits, this may be your last opportunity to turn your bland, generic Karin Carpenter into a unique, under-appreciated, criminally amazing and overproducing Judee Sill. No knock on Karin’s drumming though. No joke here. Are you dead yet? Are you angry I called Karen Carpenter bland even though I caveated with the drumming line? Sounds like a “you” problem. Make your trades now, nothing is immovable if you do the math and a category needs juicing.

This week we will get swiftly to the blurbs, as I am now stomping on blurbs in the NFL section of Razzball. Check it out if you want to watch a full grown adult search for mentions of “Free Agent Right Tackle” turned into the acronym FA RT. It’s going to be a hoot.

While I generally try to dabble in names that are under 65-ish% owned in most leagues, you know, the acronyms (ESPN, CBS, etc.) and the one platform named after the most-used word in the Simish language (YAHOO, WHAT ELSE WOULD IT BE PEOPLE), A.J. Pollock ended up making the cut through other criteria. And not just because I like nautical puns. Moreso, as the season begins to take it’s final form, a player like Pollock will naturally find himself in his own grey area. While recency bias kinda drives that point home now, i.e. he’s hot, how long will it last, should I buy-in, things like that, I have to be honest, it seems like we’ve been here before with him, and I guess the reason I’m dedicated my 1000ish words is to kinda figure out what’s going on now, if it’s happened before, and what we can expect from the impending roster glut… and if those answers can provide us our on finality of what Pollock actually is or what he’s going to do. I mean, he’s a baseball player, I know, and he’s going to do baseball things… but you get what I’m saying. MAYBE.

Playing DFS is like a puzzle right, trying to find the pieces to make it work and fit just perfectly. I was doing a puzzle with my daughter the other day and I was like this is a similar feeling that I get when I’m doing my lineups sifting through all this information to make lineups and get them to fit just right is like sifting through a big ole puzzle box to find the right pieces. Writing on Mondays it’s always a crapshoot on how many teams play and today we have the fewest number of teams playing on a Monday this season with 4 games on the main slate. It’s the hand we are dealt with so let’s get into it. The interesting part of the slate to me is we have four pitchers that will garner attention across the board from everybody making lineups today which is good that we have some variation in such a small slate today. 3 of the pitchers — Peralta, Musgrove, and Tallion — are all pitching very well as of late and Giolito plays for a team that can put up a huge number of runs today, and although inconsistent this season he can put up a 50 for you with no problem against the Twins. I think I’m going with the guy who I think will be the lowest if not the 2nd lowest owned pitcher and the one you will have to wait to see until the last game of the night which is fine with me and that’s Joe Musgrove ($9,000). I think he is pitching the best out of the four right now and although Freddy is also pitching well I’ll take the $1,200 savings and use it to make my lineup a lot stronger hitting-wise. Both have great matchups against their opponents with Peralta facing the Cubs and Musgrove against the Marlins. Musgrove is at home while Peralta is away and I just think DFS players on the east coast especially would rather stay up and watch their pitcher so Musgrove might be a little under-owned which gives me an edge today. I’ll take any edge I can get today on this slate.

On the day the Phils retired Roy Halladay’s uniform number, Zack Wheeler was the first Phillies pitcher to retire 22 consecutive batters in a start since May 29, 2010 — Roy Halladay’s perfect game. How does baseball baseball so entirely? Of course, Roy Halladay Day was going to feature a complete game shutout vs. the Mets. It’s baseball baseballing. Anything else would’ve been shocking. Can you just bet the Mets will suffer? Does Vegas take that sorta bet? Awkward segue alert! The Patreon podcast is booked to do a live show in Vegas with me, Donkey and Billy. Details are on the podcast. So, how do you bet the Mets will suffer? Do you bet something like, “I want…The Mets to suffer plus ‘will be swept,’ plus ‘while being shutout,’ plus ‘while going against the ex-Mets pitcher, Zack Wheeler (9 IP, 0 ER, 2 hits, 1 walk, 11 Ks, ERA at 2.42),’ plus ‘while losing 1st place.'” That’s like a Quinella combined with a Pick 6. Wheeler has the 2nd best xFIP of qualified starters; 2nd best FIP if you prefer that; 3rd best xERA if you want that; 10.4 K/9, 2 BB/9, his best velocity of his career (!) and best SwStr%. It’s hard to imagine Zack Wheeler being ranked any lower than the top five starters for 2022 fantasy baseball. Since he’s an ex-Met, that might be the bonus number on the Pick 6. Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

Welcome sports fans to another week of fantasy baseball. It was a fun week, as we got to see the impact some of the trade deadline acquisitions had on their new ball clubs. Division races are starting to heat up but pitches are slowing down! We saw the utility man Brock Holt register the slowest pitch in human history last week clocking in at a beer league softball like 30 MPH. Oh and he allowed 0 runs in the inning too, but sadly I can not recommend him as a pitching acquisition.

Moving onto injury news and notes. Chris Sale is set to start on Saturday, If he’s not rostered in your league I’d go do that now. Jack Flaherty is supposed to return to the Cards this weekend as well. Shane Bieber threw from 60 feet this week. Miles Mikolas should be making his last rehab start this week. Lastly, James Kaprielian should be activated in time for Sunday’s game. I like when this list is short, with that said let’s get to the pitchers on tap for this week!

With the playoffs looming in fantasy baseball, owners are looking for those players who may be able to give them that little edge they need to secure a playoff spot or hold off an opponent. So let’s change things up a bit this week and talk about those who are not listed at the top of the rankings. We all know who the top second baseman are and they aren’t available to you unless you make a trade for them.

However, there are a handful of second basemen who are eligible on the waiver wire. A few of these players could be the key to you making the playoffs or watching the postseason from the outside. So, who are these magical players some of you should be adding to your roster?

We were absolutely rolling going into last week, but that article wasn’t pretty. Most of our guys struggled, and a couple of them didn’t even make a start. That has me more motivated than ever to bounce back and have a big week because we’re down to the final two months of the season. Riding streamers to gather up roto points is critical at this time of the year, so hopefully, some of these guys can help get you to the top. With that in mind, let’s break down this week’s streamers!

Time to get under the hood and locate where today’s action is. With the Cincinnati Reds looking like The Big Red Machine of old lately, it’s time to ride the machine. We also can’t ignore the possibilities in Baltimore/Toronto, we’ll dive into all the hitting plays after the jump, but let’s kick things off with SP Max Fried at $8,000.  With at least 5 innings in each of his past 10 appearances dating back to June 6th and facing the newly horrendous, Washington Nationals, Fried will definitely be worth a shot today and is a great place to start building your lineups.

I can’t quite put my finger on the reason, but I’ve been feeling like the baseball season is all but over these last few weeks. I could guess at some reasons, I’m sure. Contenders are few and far between. Even teams that technically still “in it” don’t have much chance of actually making the playoffs. And even if they do, they’ll face the one-game wild card death match.

If I’m honest with myself, real baseball has nothing to do with this late-season malaise. More likely, the feeling comes from trade deadlines in dynasty leagues. In all my leagues, I’ll have to dance with what brung me from this point onward, and that’s a powerless, uncomfortable sensation that runs a bit counter to what I think makes dynasty leagues great. I don’t even make that many trades and might even prefer to play in leagues without them, if I could ever find one, but that transition from the Willy Loman sales hustle to a life of slow-burn faab fliers hits me like a briefcase of bricks.

The prospect pipeline that flows from May to August is out of season. Any call ups now are likely to be bench pieces or last-life 4A types trying to carve their path. I actually love this last bit, and that’s where we’ll begin today, hyping ourselves up to make some minor moves with high-end upside.
