Top Dynasty Keepers – Lowe vs. India vs. Chisholm

Spring training is fully underway and fantasy baseball season is now in full force.

Thousands of people like you and me have already been in a draft or two (or three or four) while others are still preparing for their first draft (or second, third or fourth). If you need a refresher on my top 125 keepers, please go back and take a gander at my rankings.

With the top keepers now listed and out of the way, let’s focus on three players this week who I ranked 62nd, 72nd and 79th overall – Brandon Lowe, Jonathan India and Jazz Chisholm Jr. After the top group, these players will likely still be on the board in the sixth round or so in a 12-team league, and I picked this trio because they are all under the age of 29 and all three are close in age – Lowe is 27, India is 25 and Chisholm is 24.

In any dynasty league, production is always the top factor. But unless you are playing to win immediately and not worry about winning in 2027, then a player’s age plays a role into who you draft, mixed in with the need to win in the future. That magic formula plus my gut put Lowe ahead of India with Chisholm bringing up the rear.

Top 100 Prospects for 2022 Fantasy Baseball

When mapping out this year’s Top 100, I found myself getting caught up in the layout. I’ve tried a few different ways to skin this cat, and I think my favorite so far was my first: Top 25 Prospects for 2020 Fantasy Baseball.

It was simple, sleek, easy to see, easy to scroll, and it was built in tiers, which feels like a realistic lens through which to view these players. You can argue that Bobby Witt Jr. is definitively a better prospect than Julio Rodriguez if you want to, or vice versa, but if you get offered one for the other in a trade, you might freeze up like me pondering the layout of this article. The differences are real, certainly, but they’re more aesthetic and subjective than anything like objective truth. It’s a difference in type or style more than a difference of quality.

I’ll try to stay concise in between the tiers here, but you can access a more in-depth consideration of each individual player by clicking on their names or skimming around in the 2022 Minor League Preview Index.

Last week, we jumped right into our our first look at the Top 100 Hitters for the 2022 Fantasy Baseball Season.  If you missed that article then please pause the current programming and give us a quick read to catch up.  This week we continue to jaunt down the rankings by looking at the next 20 hitters on the list.  This week’s edition is smattered with risky bets like Ronald Acuna and Mookie Betts, solid producers like Freddie Freeman and Ozzie Albies, and upside potential with Eloy Jimenez and Tyler O’Neill.  So let us kick this off with a #11 who really should be #1, but thanks to a the injury risk he is our headliner at the end of the first round.

Two things have happened this week to add texture to this Blurbstomp. The first – I came down with a sore throat and it wasn’t COVID. There is truly nothing wrong stranger than getting a sore throat. One takes for granted the supple glory of a functional throat. The air, spit, food, drink, and post-nasal drip that travels its comfortable moving walkways treat it like so much airport art; like an umpire, or even a sports commissioner, their good work goes unappreciated because it is expected. When things go wrong, when every breath brings discomfort, we pine for the days of innocence. We forget that things go so bad, so fast, and worst of all, for no real reason other than the perpetuity of biological organisms crashing together like so many bumper cars in a given petri dish. My throat hurts, friends, and I’m a big large baby.

Raimel Tapia was traded to the Jays. Yay! Tapia gets out from under Bud Black! You will never thwart us again, Bud Black! Shakes fist towards the Colorado Rockies, the geographical location, not the team in Arizona. Though, the difference between Arizona and Colorado is hard to tell with the shake of a fist. Your tyranny of platoons will never stop me and Tapia again! Eat a dee, Bud Black! *opens Jays’ lineup* Uh…Hmm. Raimel Tapia is now buried in a stacked lineup and might platoon from the nine hole. Yo, Tapia, have you ever considered eating a live chicken to rid yourself of the curse of “not playing every day?” He was lowered in the top 100 outfielders. Going the other way, and the real winner here: Randal Grichuk. I know Grichuk is morally opposed to bat flips, but he might want to bat flip this trade. He’s suddenly in position to have a career year, and play everyday DH. Grichuk is exactly the type of player Bud Black will give 600 ABs, if he can. Old and boring. The ultimate Prospblockie. C.J. Cron and Grichuk walking around that lineup like Nicky Fairbanks walking the streets in Alaska. Grichuk was upped by a lot in the top 100 outfielders, and is now a 5th outfielder target in shallower leagues. Incredibly, on our auction values Randal Grichuk has moved to the 39th best outfielder, and right by Jesse Winker. This offseason, their collective fortunes have 180’d toward each other, and Winker appropriately was 1st one to blink. The ol’ Blink-180. What’s my age again? Also, the top 500 for 2022 fantasy baseball was updated. Anyway, here’s what else I saw this preseason for 2022 fantasy baseball:

Here we go baby, it is almost go time. Hopefully your league waited to draft so you didn’t take FTJ number 1 overall like I did in TGFBI. Unfortunately, with his injury timeline around three months he drops outside the top 150 in projected points. He should be a beast when he returns to action and for the right price he could be well worth is, but most likely someone will take him far too soon to return real value. Let someone else deal with that dead roster spot. Even with an IL spot I probably wouldn’t be comfortable taking him inside the top 100. That almost hurt to type because he is one of the games brightest stars and I wish him a speedy recovery.

So now that I just told you who I would not be drafting if I had a do over, how about we talk about who you should draft?

1st Basemen to Target for 2022 Fantasy Baseball

‘Member the days when I told you that you needed a top 1st basemen and you shouldn’t look for sleepers at this position? Don’t remember? Prolly for best, leave more room in your brain to remember excuses for why you didn’t exercise. Previously, I’d tell you to go to my top 20 1st basemen for 2022 fantasy baseball (not clickbait at all) and draft some top guys and stop fooling around with sleepers at this position. Of course, I’m malleable like Gumby and this year we need to look for sleepers at 1st base *ducks head*.  Whoa, someone threw a wrench into this! Fine, Pete Alonso and Matt Olson get my nethers ablaze, but 1st basemen dry up quick. As with other positions like the catchers to target (again, not clickbait), these are 1st basemen that are being drafted late. For the 1st basemen, I’m going with an ADP of 150 or later to be included in this post. Anyway, here’s some 1st basemen to target for 2022 fantasy baseball:
