Hollywood has always loved the story of the ugly duckling blossoming into a swam – Mean Girls, The Princess Diaries, Miss Congeniality, Clueless and She’s All That. And why not, because we are all suckers for it. Personally, I like to think that I’ve grown into something suave over the years. *Looks around* Sees that I’m writing fantasy nerd stuff from my mom’s basement. *Sobs* Yes, I’m the sucker. For fantasy sports, we all know who the sexy mofos are. Every once in a while, though, a player gets hot, makes a change to the approach, and becomes very enticing. I remember this girl in high school, who wasn’t anything special, but then I saw her wearing a dress and all done up, and she looked mighty fine. It was that girl who I thought of when I dug into J.P. Crawford of the Seattle Mariners. Is Crawford actually hot or is it just the makeup?  Let’s dig in.

There isn’t much of a consensus opinion surrounding the 2024 MLB Draft, particularly with this year’s grouping of collegiate talent. I’ve seen North Carolina’s Vance Honeycutt, West Virginia’s JJ Weatherholt, Tennessee’s Chase Burns, and Florida’s Jac Caglianone, among other players, all ranked as the No. 1 prospect by various publications. I have to agree because there are a lot of standout tools at the top of this draft but also a lot of high-ceiling players with unrefined aspects of their game or question marks in one or more areas. The fall practice season is going to go a long way in determining the 2024 preseason draft board, with the campaign to follow undoubtedly shaking the trees clean. Who knows, a bald-headed Jonathan Mayo even might come tumbling out of the timber after all of the information we uncover in this year’s crop. Anywho, here are my way-too-early rankings for the 2024 college draft class, with thorough insight to be provided on each player throughout the months ahead.

What is up party people? Did you know that we are about to go into the biggest weekend for fantasy football drafts? If you’re a fantasy addict like me, you have a draft or 12 coming up. In that case, I would like to direct you to a wonderful resource to help you gain an edge. Oh yeah, Razzball does fantasy football too. But I digress, you’re obviously not reading for my fantasy football advice, you want to know how to finish out the fantasy baseball season. And for that, I applaud and thank you. You’re here, you made it . You have a team that is still contending and that’s a beautiful thing. Are you looking for a guy who is totally free? You know that I’m about to bring up Wade Meckler again., and no, I don’t get paid for how many times I mention him. He was a mystery box when he made the jump to the show and well, he’s still a mystery box. His batting average is looking good but he hasn’t shown any power or speed (wow, he sounds great). The mystery box could still be anything.

Mike Couillard and Jeremy Brewer have launched a pod, Cards & Categories, to discuss baseball from card collecting and fantasy angles! In our eighth episode, we open with discussion on Shohei Ohtani’s injury and the Angels waiver wire bonanza along with the recent updates on the White Sox shooting and (once again) Julio being Julio. We then talk about three […]

Sadly, Spencer Howard was released by the Yanks. Shame, their big trade deadline acquisition just never caught on for them. The release of their big-name acquisition signals a changing of the guards by the Yikes. First, Donaldson, now Spencer Howard. Who’s next Jake Bauers? Now, let’s not talk crazy! They also put Harrison Bader on waivers, and the writing’s on the wall, and the rumors are swirling like orange and vanilla for the creamsicle of the future: Jasson Dominguez. He’ss cominguez. You need to grab him now and see how it plays out. If he’s not any good in his first go around, then *raspberries lips* and drop him. So, why such hype? He’s the truth. Looking at a guy who could put together a 20/40 season over 162, and he might be the last of the red-hot call-ups. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Cubs LHP Jordan Wicks got himself into great shape heading into this season because he was up for a role in the John Wick spinoff series, and while he didn’t get the part, the extra strength paid off in his big league debut, when he earned a win with nine strikeouts in five, one-run innings. I’ve become a broken record about this, but wins are tough to find right now. Wicks makes an interesting option in even the shallowest leagues.

Lucas Giolito, Randal Grichuk, Hunter Renfroe, Reynaldo Lopez and Matt Moore were all placed on waivers by the Angels. Everyone makes fun of the Rockies, and they deserve it, but the Angels are the Rockies with better on-field talent. The Angels are a joke organization. They were going for it literally three weeks ago! They get nothing for any of these players, by the by. It’s not like they get draft picks or something. They just traded away prospects three weeks ago for these guys and they are just being released. All they get back is money. So, Arte Moreno can build a smaller hot tub inside his larger hot tub. On a real baseball note, the playoffs just became fascinating, since the waiver order is the reverse winning percentage, so maybe that late push by the Mariners to pass the Rangers wasn’t the best move. What does this mean for fantasy? Honestly, I doubt much. It’ll depend which teams pick up each guy, but you have to assume Grichuk and Renfroe are platoon players on better teams, and Giolito is a mess wherever he pitches. Unless he goes to the Rays, then he becomes a late-stage Cy Young candidate. As Matt Truss said, if the Angels pulled that nonsense in a fantasy league, Tommy Pham would smack the crap of out of them. Angels’ City Connect unis should just be white flags. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
