Staaaaaart spreadin’ the news, he’s starting today.  He wants to be a part of it, the Yankee Rotation.  James Paxton ($10,400) gets his close up in pinstripes and he’s got a soft landing.  The Baltimore Orioles and their latest edition of a terrible team face off against Paxton, who comes out of Spring Training with a nifty stat line of a 2.08 ERA/.981 WHIP/9.9 K9.  Let’s face it, the Orioles are worse than some of the lineups he faced in Spring Training.  Now let’s take a look at the rest of the slate today.

Trevor Bauer, SP: $11,000 – Bauer is a phenomenon.  A recent Deadspin article says he will not win the AL Cy Young award for, among many things, being suspended for 50 games for swatting a Twitter user with four followers who calls him “a goof”.  Only shooting stars get this treatment.  Don’t let that distract you from buying him as he goes against the new look Twins with the Indians looking to win their first game of the season.

Jake Junis, SP: $7,800 – The J man is a streamer extraordinaire.  Pitch him against the right opponent, like this today’s young Chicago White Sox team.

Sonny Gray, SP: $6,800 – The artist formally known as Sonny Gray has re-emerged from his New York nightmare as a starter for the Cincinnati Reds.  He comes out of Spring Training healthy, and gets the rebuilding Pirates today.  A great cheaper option.

Wilson Contreras, C: $2,800 – Contreras came roaring out of Spring Training with a 1.037 OPS.  He gets to T – off on Edinson Volquez in the launching pad known as the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.  Great buy today.

Yasmany Grandal, C: $2,900 – For another option go with Grandal, who had a 1.001 OPS in Spring Training himself, and gets to hit in Miller Park where he has a career .876 OPS.

Anthony Rizzo, 1B: $4,500 – Another Cub, this lefty basher has a .333 batting average and .857 OPS against the righty Volquez.  This team is on a mission to return glory to Cub Nation.  The Cubs scored 12 against the Rangers in Game 1 and Rizzo was right in the thick of it.

Hanley Ramirez, 1B: $2,300 – No, this is not a miss-print.  Hanley is back, a ready to prove he belongs.  He socked 2 Home Runs in Spring Training, and has a career .898 OPS against his opponent today, Jake Odorizzi.

Jose Altuve, 2B: $4,300 – Mighty Mouse is at it again.  He’s hit .319 at Tropicana Field in his career, where he’s playing today.

Ryan McMahon, 2B: $2,400 – This Rockies 2nd baseman is a great play today against Pablo Lopez of the Marlins.  He had a 1.232 OPS in Spring Training.

Jose Ramirez, 3B: $4,400 – This MVP candidate is looking to start where he left off last year.  He’s hit 2 Home Runs off of Odorizzi in the past.

Josh Donaldson, 3B: $3,400 – This former MVP has emerged in Atlanta, where his giving the lineup a major boost.  He’s in Philly today, where he has a career 1.220 OPS.

Javier Baez, SS: $4,400 – Can we say his 2018 season was not a fluke?  He had 2 Home Runs on Opening Day.  Safe to say he loves hitting in Texas.

Adalberto Mondesi, SS: $4,200 – This speedster with power had two triples on Opening Day.  That’s not normal, but it is something you want in your lineup.

Christian Yelich, OF: $4,900 – Last year’s MVP gets to face right hander Dakota Hudson of the Cardinals.  He filled up the stat sheet to the tune of a .321 average /26 Home runs/16 Steals against righties last year.

Yasiel Puig, OF: $3,200 – Puig has good history against Trevor Williams of the Pirates, and against righties like Willams he hit .297 with a .921 OPS last year.

Kyle Schwarber, OF: $3,300 – He’s part of the Cubs revival, and hit 25 Home Runs with a .859 OPS against right handers like Edinson Volquez last year.

Jesse Winker, OF: $2,900 – Call it a hunch.  He hit .321 against right handers like Trevor Williams last year, including a .940 OPS at home at Great America Ballpark, where he’s playing today.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

There’s rain in the forecast in Cincinnati for the Reds and Pirates, and a strong wind is blowing out in Minnesota for the Twins and Indians, in Philadelphia for the Braves and Phillies, and in Texas for the Cubs and Rangers.  The wind is blowing in in Miami for the Rockies and Marlins, and in Kansas City for the White Sox and Royals.
