What’s cookin’ out there, all my Razz Chefs?
I’m travelling this weekend en route to a vacation, so no intro for me this week. Let’s dive right into the suggested adds and corresponding bids.
The stats and roster rates below are updated as of noon central time on 5/30.
As always, if you want advice on specific roster decisions you might have, feel free to leave a comment. You can also find me on BlueSky (@mcouill7.bsky.social).
CATCHERS
10/12 Team Adds
Gabriel Moreno (ARI, 45% CBS Rostership) – If in a league where Moreno is still available, this is probably the last week to snatch him up. The 25-year-old’s bat has always been impressive and has really rounded into form during May, as he’s slashed .324/.351/.592 this month. Arizona’s trip to Cincy at the tail of next week likely will produce some great results all around for the D-Backs, making Moreno viable in even the shallowest of leagues. I’m not kidding, if in an 8- or 10-team league, you need to consider dropping the likes of Adley Rutschman and J.T. Realmuto for Moreno. (3-5% FAAB)
QUICK HITS: Ryan Jeffers (MIN, 43% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Jonah Heim (TEX, 26% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Alejandro Kirk (TOR, 23% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB)
15 Team Adds
Edgar Quero (CHW, 11% CBS Rostership) – For a moment over this past week, the White Sox gave me a scare as Matt Thaiss was picking up a few more starts than usual over our boi Quero. Then Chris Getz decided to ship Thaiss off to Tampa to ensure there would be no question about bringing Quero back here (thanks, I guess?). The rookie backstop is consistently clocking in as $0-5 player on our Hittertron, which is configured for 12-team, two-catcher leagues, making Quero a top 18-24 catcher every week, designating him king of this roster rate level. (3% FAAB)
QUICK HITS: Dillon Dingler (DET, 19% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Danny Jansen (TBR, 6% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), David Fry (C/1B/OF, CLE, 5% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Henry Davis (PIT, 4% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB)
INFIELDERS
10/12 Team Adds
Brett Baty (2B/3B, NYM, 42% CBS Rostership) – Baty has reeled in the whiffs juuuust enough to make his profile all work and post a 13.9% barrel rate to-date. Given that he has 38 games under his belt, by some quick and dirty math (multiplying his stats by four), the 25-year-old would pace to 24 homers with his .245 batting average over a full season. That’s not special, but it is usable especially since Baty has edged out Luisangel Acuna for playing time (pushing Mark Vientos to a DH role) and gets to join on the scoring fest the Mets are about to drop in Colorado next weekend. (3-5% FAAB)
Ryan McMahon (3B, COL, 49% CBS Rostership) – It’s set to be a week of all right-handed starters at Miami and home against the Mets for McMahon and the Rockies. That’s a solid schedule to slot in for a guy that has a career .266/.343/.485 slash against righties at home to pair with a .223/.318/.382 slash versus them on the road. Great salve if scrambling for 3B/CI options in the wake of Alex Bregman’s injury. (3-5% FAAB)
QUICK HITS: Connor Norby (3B, MIA, 42% CBS Rostership, 3-5% FAAB), Max Muncy (3B, LAD, 48% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Nolan Schanuel (1B, LAA, 40% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Colt Keith (1B/2B, DET, 33% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Caleb Durbin (2B/3B, MIL, 20% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Chase Meidroth (2B/SS, CHW, 42% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Gavin Lux (2B/OF, CIN, 42% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Jose Caballero (2B/3B/SS/OF, TBR, 41% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Ryan Mountcastle (1B, BAL, 38% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Ty France (1B, MIN, 24% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Carlos Santana (1B, CLE, 23% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Isiah Kiner-Falefa (2B/3B/SS, PIT, 21% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB)
15 Team Adds
Addison Barger (3B/OF, TOR, 15% CBS Rostership) – Since we last met, Barger has been solid, batting .300 (6-for-20). While it might have been a homerless week, he finally passed the threshold to make his Savant page go from see-through to solid color gradients, and it’s a thing of beauty. Barger is still mired in a platoon, but he if he can push is batting average closer to his current .293 xBA while in a strong-side platoon, that’s perfectly fine a deep league while making him a bargain in one with daily moves. (3-5% FAAB)
QUICK HITS: Otto Lopez (2B/SS, MIA, 18% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Eric Wagaman (1B/3B/OF, MIA, 11% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Daniel Schneemann (2B/SS/OF, CLE, 19% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Christian Moore (2B, LAA, 16% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Kody Clemens (1B/2B/OF, MIN, 13% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Spencer Horwitz (1B/2B, PIT, 12% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Luis Urias (2B/3B, ATH, 9% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Santiago Espinal (2B/3B/OF, CIN, 4% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Lenyn Sosa (1B/2B/3B, CHW, 4% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB)
Only Team Adds
Orlando Arcia (SS, COL, 1% CBS Rostership) – When in a NL-Only league, any new starter for the Rockies becomes immediately rosterable just because of what Coors Field can do. Jeremy and I managed to predict correctly in our analysis on Cards & Categories this week that the Arcia signing spelled doom for Adael Amador, who was shuttled back to Triple-A. You can pretty much throw out the .194/.219/.226 slash line Arcia put up in Atlanta prior to landing with the Rox because this is the 30-year-old’s last chance to prove he can be a major leaguer. He did manage to slug 17 homers in each of the previous two seasons, so there is some sneaky pop in his bat. Welcome to the fold for us Coors Field-based stream sickos, Orlando! (3-5% FAAB)
Kahlil Watson (2B/OF, CLE, 2% CBS Rostership) – Unless you want to mess around with whatever wackadoodle scheme the Red Sox are cooking up at first base to avoid calling up Roman Anthony, things have dried up mightily for AL-Only infield options. It’s time to start stashing minor leaguers for funsies. Watson, who came over from Miami in the 2023 deadline deal for Josh Bell, has managed to find a groove down at Double-A. The mercurial 22-year-old is posting a career-low 16.5% Oppo rate, allowing him to maximize his power to the tune of a .216 ISO with a .262/.347/.477 (139 wRC+) slash line over 124 plate appearances. Cleveland has been scrambling a bit at the keystone as Daniel Schneemann has cooled and Travis Bazzana, whom the Guardians looked set to give the job, is felled with an oblique injury. The pathway for Watson to provide some offensive reinforcement is there if he can seize it. (1% FAAB)
OUTFIELDERS
10/12 Team Adds
Jac Caglianone (1B/OF, KCR, 60% CBS Rostership) – Cags is above my typical roster rate for analysis here, but it’s likely he’s still lingering on the wire in some shallower leagues out there. He shouldn’t be any longer. It’s not a coincidence that Hunter Renfroe and Nelson Velazquez were shipped out just after Caglianone reached Triple-A and launched five homers in his first six games. With Kyle Isbel, John Rave, and Drew Waters manning the outfield in KC, Jac-tani’s bat is sorely needed in the big leagues. I’ll give the Florida product credit, I thought there was too much chase in his swing to reach MLB quickly, but boy, he’s proven everyone wrong. Caglianone is too good for even Triple-A at this point and needs MLB reps to challenge him. All the projections have him pegged for a .250 average and a 25-homer full-season pace, which speaks volumes for a guy with only 342 minor league plate appearances. I think he gets called up for the Royals homestand that starts June 10 against the Yankees and easily outstrips that power projection. (9-11% FAAB)
Matt Wallner (MIN, 30% CBS Rostership) – Sorry, Kody Clemens lovers, but this is partly why it’s a little tough to get excited about The Rocket’s son. Wallner should be slated to return this weekend from his hammy injury and appears ready, popping five homers in six rehab games at Triple-A St. Paul. He looks set to do his thing, mashing taters (averages a homer ever 21.6 plate appearances for his career) and whiffing (career 33.8% K-rate, but was at 28.4% in 2025 before landing on the IL), while representing the only shot outside of Caglianone to produce 20 homers rest-of-season from the current waiver pool. (5% FAAB)
Parker Meadows (DET, 28% CBS Rostership) – Meadows is also wrapping a rehab stint that has seen him slash .316/.435/.632 over 23 plate appearances. While Wallner is your best outright power player in the waiver pool, Meadows is the best chance at finding double-digit power and speed out there. Pretty easy to see what he did in 2024 with nine homers and steals apiece with a .244/.310/.433 over 82 games and copy it right into rest-of-season. But there is upside for more as the Tigers offense has been surprisingly elite (fourth in total runs scored) and Meadows slashed .296/.340/.500 in the second half last year as he broke out after an up-and-down start to his 2024. (5% FAAB)
QUICK HITS: Daulton Varsho (TOR, 40% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Trevor Larnach (MIN, 35% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Jake Meyers (HOU, 32% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Pavin Smith (1B/OF, ARI, 31% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Max Kepler (PHI, 23% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Miguel Andujar (3B/OF, ATH, 21% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB)
15 Team Adds
Jesus Sanchez (MIA, 14% CBS Rostership) – Rinse and repeat, another FAAB column and another week that the Hittertron has Sanchez pegged for a mid-teens value. All experienced fantasy players have probably been burned by Sanchez since 2020, but the 27-year-old looks to be well on his way to a repeat 15/15 season with a .250 average in spite of the time missed to an oblique injury so far. (3-5% FAAB)
QUICK HITS: Dane Myers (MIA, 16% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Andrew Benintendi (CHW, 16% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Jake Fraley (CIN, 8% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Alexander Canario (PIT, 4% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Jake Mangum (TBR, 17% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Robert Hassell (WSN, 14% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Brandon Marsh (PHI, 11% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Alex Verdugo (ATL, 8% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Andrew McCutchen (PIT, 5% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Drew Waters (KCR, 4% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB)
Only Team Adds
Isaac Collins (MIL, 1% CBS Rostership) – For you eagle-eyed readers, you’ll notice the Caleb Durbin popped back up in the shallower league Quick Hits, mostly because the Hittertron loves the Brewers next week thanks to a three-game set in Cincy. Collins continues to be a part of the Milwaukee starting lineup combining with Sal Frelick, Durbin, and Joey Ortiz to create the Noodle Bat Club behind Rhys Hoskins in the order. Collins is a slightly below league average switch-hitting bat (90 wRC+) that runs at a 20-25 steal pace, making him plenty useful while Garrett Mitchell (oblique) and Blake Perkins (broken leg) are out. (3-5% FAAB)
Alejandro Osuna (TEX, 2% CBS Rostership) – Welcome to the big leagues, kid. Your task is to save a roster that had World Series hopes but is scuffling at the plate, ranking third-to-last in runs (ahead of just Pittsburgh and Colorado). To aid you in the task at hand, go ahead and just step right into the five-hole in our lineup. The 22-year-old Osuna was hitting well in the minors with a .279/.386/.416 (124 wRC+) slash line across Triple- and Double-A before his promotion. Texas appears to have a lot of faith in his bat given that he slotted right into the heart of it, and if Osuna hits, he can stick as a starter over Joc Pederson and Evan Carter when (if) they return from injury given that pair’s subpar performance thus far. The upside of Osuna if it works out is a .240-.250 average with 15/15 homer/steal ability over a full season, not too shabby at this point in the season for an AL-Only callup. (7-9% FAAB)
STARTING PITCHERS
10/12 Team Adds
Stephen Kolek (SDP, 28% CBS Rostership) – With the historic (derogatory) performance against the Fish in his last outing, in which he overcame a six-run first inning to secure a win, Kolek is now 3-1 with a 4.11 ERA and 3.86 FIP through 30.2 frames. The former Dodgers’ pick lines up for a nice two-start week with road outings at San Francisco and Milwaukee next week. And while we aren’t looking at anything special here in Kolek (10.9% K-BB, 97 Stuff+ boosted by a 56.4% groundball rate), have you seen the other pitching options? It’s bleak out there for the upcoming week – lots of bad matchups with teams rolling through Cincinnati, Colorado, and Sacramento. The pitching streamers have really dried up this year without the ability to rely on home starts in Oakland and Tropicana Stadium. Keep that in mind throughout the summer because finding reliable starting pitcher streamers on the wire week in and week out might not be a viable strategy this year. (3-5% FAAB)
QUICK HITS: Andrew Heaney (PIT, 45% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Zack Littell (TBR, 43% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Jacob Misiorowski (MIL, 39% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Landen Roupp (SFG, 37% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Chris Paddack (MIN, 31% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB)
15 Team Adds
Slade Cecconi (CLE, 15% CBS Rostership) – Yep, Cleveland has done it again. They took Cecconi, who flashed a solid approach with Arizona, producing a 104 Pitching+ thanks to solid location command, and seemingly morphed him into a mid-rotation starter. The 25-year-old righty has pitched a 3.27 ERA, 3.44 FIP and 26.7% K-BB across his first 11 innings. His upcoming start at home next week against the Astros, who aren’t your daddy’s ‘Stros, being in the bottom half of run scoring, is one of the better widely available options out there. Cause, woof… look at those other options in the Quick Hits. (3-5% FAAB)
QUICK HITS: Ryan Gusto (HOU, 12% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Michael Soroka (WSN, 19% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Richard Fitts (BOS, 15% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Jonathan Cannon (CHW, 9% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Colton Gordon (HOU, 5% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB)
Only Team Adds
Cal Quantrill (MIA, 3% CBS Rostership) – You, an NL-Only sicko arriving here to scope a pitching recommendation, as you do every Saturday afternoon like clockwork (thanks for reading hypothetical you!): “Ugh, what the hell? Mike is suggesting a dude with a 6.09 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 6.3 K/9?!? He’s going to kill me in my roto league with those ratios, what a clown.” Well, yes, you are at Razzball.com, the middle of the clown car, but I mean, all of fantasy baseball is a circus. And au contraire, my friend! Quantrill is a solid and sneaky addition because not only does he draw a home start against the Rockies, who rank last in runs scored, but have you seen Paul’s son’s latest work? Across his last four starts, including one each against the Cubs and Dodgers, Quantrill has pitched to a 3.06 ERA, 2.96 FIP, and 15:5 K:BB over 17.2 innings. Baffle your leaguemates with this roster addition and make them look like the clowns when you pluck a usable week from a SP out of thin air. (5% FAAB)
Adrian Houser (CHW, 5% CBS Rostership) – I can’t believe this is actually working. Houser is at a 2.74 FIP, 0.75 WHIP and 54.8% groundball rate through 12 scoreless innings with the Sox. He has even bagged a win!! If he performs well again, which he should, it’s why I’m suggesting him for crying out loud, in his next start at home against Kansas City, Adrian Houser, pitching for the Chicago White Sox in the year of our lord 2025, is about to be a viable starter in 15-teamers. (5-7% FAAB)
RELIEVERS
10/12 Team Adds
Daniel Palencia (CHC, 43% CBS Rostership) – The train has already left the station, this 25-year-old righty has ridden his fastball/slide change to the closer’s seat. Your 2025 Chicago Cubs saves leader is about to be Daniel Palencia in the record books. (9-11% FAAB)
David Bednar (PIT, 34% CBS Rostership) & Dennis Santana (PIT, 30% CBS Rostership) – Yeah, I throw in the towel on figuring out this Pittsburgh bullpen. Both are getting save chances, passing the closer job between them like a hot potato. Good luck. (3% FAAB each)
QUICK HITS: Jason Adam (SDP, 41% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Tommy Kahnle (DET, 36% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Lucas Erceg (KCR, 34% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Bryan Abreu (HOU, 21% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB)
15 Team Adds
Robert Garcia (TEX, 17% CBS Rostership) – Hey, guess when Luke Jackson last secured a save for the Texas Rangers. Got a date in mind? Okay, well, I bet it’s wrong because Jackson’s last save came April 25 at San Francisco… that’s more than a month ago. From April 25 through today, Garcia has fired a 2.77 ERA with 13 Ks across 13 innings while securing the Rangers’ last two saves. We all knew that Jackson was going to let that closer role slip away, and it looks like the job is now Garcia’s. The only things really preventing him from holding that seat rest-of-season is Chris Martin’s eventual return and Bruce Bochy’s strange bullpen management. (5-7% FAAB)
QUICK HITS: Ronny Henriquez (MIA, 7% CBS Rostership, 3% FAAB), Abner Uribe (MIL, 20% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Griffin Jax (MIN, 19% CBS Rostership, 1-3% FAAB), Reed Garrett (NYM, 9% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Jesus Tinoco (MIA, 7% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Pierce Johnson (ATL, 6% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB), Phil Maton (STL, 3% CBS Rostership, 1% FAAB)
Hi Mike,
After today’s poor performance by Weathers and good outings by Birdsong and Taillon, between Abbott, Birdsong, Taillon and Weathers, who would you try and trade for in exchange for Rice and in what order?
Thanks so much!!!!
Weathers was cruising until that three-run bomb from Matos in the sixth. It was his longest outing, so makes sense he tired.
My ranking would be Abbott, Weathers… (not worth trading Rice for)… Birdsong, Taillon.
* fourth inning on the Matos tater
Very deep league Would you drop Bryce Miller (im starting to really worry) for any of Fitts/Scherzer/Harrison/Sawyer-Gibson/Cavalli?
I wouldn’t drop Miller, but the reduced velo from last year has me concerned too. Gipson-Long is the most intriguing name of your list cause he has two solid starts lined at White Sox and at Orioles.
Do you like Ivan Herrera or Moreno in a 1 catcher H2H 10 team league?
Definitely Herrera
Two questions: 10 team h2h league
Jac or Pasquantino?
Moreno or Baldwin?
Jac if you can stash him on the bench for a few weeks.
Moreno. Baldwin’s timeshare is capping his value right now.
Appreciate it
I have Vientos at CI. Might be time to pull the plug. Hoskins, Edman, Sheets are available. If you were to drop Vientos, who is best to pickup? 5×5 roto OBP
The order you have there is my ranking: Hoskins, Edman, Sheets.
Ignoring position and assuming a call-up for Caglianone is imminent, how would you rank Jac, Christian Walker, Maikel Garcia, Isaac Paredes ROS?
Paredes, Garcia, Jac, Walker.
1. M Vargas, Baty, Beck, C Santana…,please rank top two.
2. Would you trade away Vargas and R Olson for B Reynolds? (Reece is my 6-7 starter).
3. Best stash: Cowser, Santander, or Mullins
4. M Vargas or JAC (I am admittedly gun shy on rookies but is he different than Marcelo, Simpson, Kurtz etc ?)
1. Beck, Baty, Vargas, Santana
2. Yes
3. Cowser
4. This depends on what you need a bit. If Vargas would be starting for you, then it’s important to ensure you are filling out that starting roster. Overall, rest of season, then I prefer Jac just cause the ceiling could be absurd.
Kurtz or Caglione? Who do you prefer? Not sure the extent of the kurtz injury but he is out at least another week. Thanks
I still prefer Kurtz cause he’s up and the home park is great.
What are your thoughts on Zebby? QS, Keeper League. Make room for him? I already have Bubba and Miz. Would be dropping Soler. Also thought about grabbing Baty instead.
Yeah, I’d drop Soler for Zebby in that situation… but maybe next weekend.
Zebby dropped from my suggestions above because his next start is at Sacramento. If you’re just shuffling bench spots, then yeah, go for it. But know Zebby isn’t a great start for next week.
Team in rebuild mode. Disappointing results from the likes of Gunnar, Mookie, Julio in a keep 10 forever with no contracts.
a) Drop Beck for Meadows?
b) Drop Bohm for Barger? Unless of course your league credits groundballs, than Bohm is your man!
Yikes, that combo of bats makes for tough sledding in 2025.
A – Yes, Meadows has a better floor going forward because he whiffs less and runs more.
B – This is a total coinflip in my book, pretty similar values. Bohm offers a tick more batting average while Barger offers a tick more power.
Thank you. I always look forward to your post.
Thank you – appreciate it!
Hi Mike,
1. Trade Question
Would you try and trade Rice for Weathers?
or
Rice and David Peterson for Andrew Abbott?
2. Marcus Siemen was so bad that I dropped him and now I have Gleyber Torres and Brendon Lowe at Second Base. After last night performance by Siemen, would you stay with Torres and Lowe or cut one to pick up Siemen?
Thoughts?
I can’t thank you enough for all your help!!!
Yes, I’d try to make both those trades.
I prefer to keep playing Torres and Lowe. Need to see steadier production from Semien before re-adding. Last night’s homer was his first extra-base hit since May 11… that’s how ice cold he’s been.
Thank you!!
