What’s poppin’, Razzpimples?

Since my last article was but a few days ago, I’m going to keep this one short and sweet. Just make it a weekend edition with the biggest news from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (since I’m writing on Monday, today’s games will get looped into next week’s article).

Don’t forget to keep that there Razzball Bullpen Chart bookmarked. It’s been totally revamped into this awesome, dynamically-updated masterpiece! The calendar view of usage patterns is just pure gold.

Subscribers: Check out the Autopen for today/tomorrow projections (vulture SVHD, anyone?), which also has the same look at the Last 7 Days usage patterns. Another great tool is relief game logs from the last 14 days! Filter/sort/export to your needs.

Note: All stats and Player Rater values below are accurate through Sunday’s games.

Weekly Notes:

Tyler Wells nabbed a couple saves over the weekend, and back-to-back at that! That’s not enough for me to say he’s the closer sans Ryan Helsley, but it’s surely enough for me to say you gotta go swipe the dude if you still can, especially if you have the ability to move him into an SP slot. Below, you can peep the metrics. They’re pretty nice. FIP agrees with the ERA for the most part, the WHIP looks good, and the K-BB% looks really good. You can tell the stuff is good with the combo of swinging strikes, whiffs, outside-the-zone swings, and weak contact. If that GB% is gonna be 1st percentile, I’m very happy to see well above average HH%. I’ve got a sinking feeling that Helsley’s (and Bautista’s) rides into the sunset will happen sooner than both would like. Maybe Wells settles in as the next best option.

Aroldis Chapman converted both save opportunities, striking out 3 and walking 0. Did allow a homer, though.

Jordan Romano sighting! And a save! I genuinely had no idea he was a Colorado Rockie until I saw his name in the summarized game logs with an “S” next to it. If you are wildly, grasping-at-your-last straw desperate, I guess add him? Nah, don’t.

Grant Taylor earned a save this weekend, while Seranthony Dominguez scored a hold. Taylor’s appearance was a traditional 9th-inning save. Sir Anthony appeared in the 7th, only managed one out, sucked otherwise, and still was credited with a hold. Taylor hasn’t been untouchable lately, either. Horrible end to June for him. This save was his first since June 6. Don’t go panic dropping Dominguez.

Emilio Pagan is back closing for the Reds, picking up his first save since April 17. Owners likely remember the rough stretch between that one save and landing on the IL. This save was ugly, too. Allowed a hit, two walks, and a run.

Caleb Kilian allowed two hits and a run but also struck out two, earning his 8th save. He’s allowed runs in three of his last four, but the K:BB in recent weeks is very nice.

Alex Lange recorded a clean save. Reckon that won’t last. I trust him as far as I can push him with a strong downwind fart.

Sam Hentges shoutout for being the only dude the snag 2 HLD this weekend. Hentges does very little for me, but Erik Miller is probably the only name ahead him for holds, so I guess if you’re in a deep format and looking for someone…

Yennier Cano, Rico Garcia, and Andrew Kittredge all earned 1 HLD. It seems I was wrong yet again, this time about Cano’s fantasy relevancy. I declared him washed. He’s only gone and pitched like that peak version of himself that inspired those “Can0.00” shirts. He almost went the entire month of June without allowing a run before he got lite up by the White Sox on the 29th. All three of these guys are capable of earning holds, which is annoying for fantasy. Over the last two weeks, Cano has 2, Rico has 2, and Kittredge has 1, but Rico seems to be getting called on more often (Rico 7x, Cano 5x, Kittredge 4x over that span), for whatever that’s worth to you.

Tyron Guerrero grabbed his fifth hold since June 22. He’s only got 16.2 IP to his name this year, but it’s hard to argue with the results: 2.70 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, .215 BAA. Seems to have the jump on Slaten at this point, so Guerrero is a nice add if you’re after holds.

Michael Petersen scored another hold as well, giving him 14 on the year. He’s sporting a 24:6 K:BB since June started, and on the year, he’s holding hitters to just .178. Another nice add, I suspect.

Notable bummers for the week:

Adrian Morejon was the only bummer I really felt personally wronged by. A commenter gave me a list of options to choose from for the week, and of course I went with Morejon as one of them. In 2.2 IP, he combined for 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 HR, and 3 K, earning a BS+L on Friday. Ah well.

That’s all for this week! Thanks for reading. Leave me a comment below so I feel all warm and fuzzy.

In case it’s any consolation, the RP list that included Morejon was for the upcoming week, and did not include the games from over the weekend.
