Hopefully, you’re all 3-0 and well on your way to a 4th dub, but there’s no time to rest on your laurels. You’ve got to stay active on the wire and always be looking for ways to improve your team. In-season roster management is the path to a title. Every year we see guys get hot and surprise us. With that in mind let’s take a look at some guys who have started strong and should have higher roster percentages. A prime example is Buster Posey who has turned back the clock to 2012 and is scorching hot right now. He’s always been a guy who can hit for a high average but it’s great to see him dropping some bombs this season. The pendulum has swung back on Buster after a couple of years of him being overvalued based on his name. As a Giants fan, you love to see it and as a fantasy manager, you should be checking the wire to see if the rest of your league hasn’t bought in yet.
Omar Narvaez is right behind Buster in total points. There has been talk of a platoon but he’s still well worth a roster spot to see how it shakes out. Catchers don’t play every game anyway, so don’t let that scare you off.
Jacob Stallings is showing signs of life. We’re talking about catchers here so just being alive can be enough to earn a roster spot. Stallings is available pretty much everywhere.
Dom Nunez plays half his games in Coors and that alone makes him worth a look. His numbers don’t jump out at you but so far he’s been more than serviceable for a catcher. He’s more of a streaming option for weeks he’s at home.
Jesus Aguilar is riding a hot streak of home runs and has shot up the points standings. A guy capable of going yard five times in a week is definitely an asset. Even without the power, the rest of his numbers are looking solid as well.
Nate Lowe is probably rostered but he’s been enough of a surprise that you should check your wire in case he still hanging around there. He’s played his way into an everyday spot in the lineup.
Colin Moran just keeps chugging along. Stop sleeping on him in 12 plus team leagues.
C.J. Cron is showing off his power this past week. He’s a start anytime he’s at home in Coors and should still be in play on the road.
Jurickson Profar came into the season with question marks about his playing time in a crowded Padres infield. Well, he’s managed to find ways into the lineup and while not lighting the world on fire he has been doing fairly well.
Miguel Rojas is in the midst of a slump but his season numbers look much better. I wouldn’t be running to grab him but he’s a guy I’d be watching.
Corey Dickerson is hitting like it’s 2017 again and I’m here for it. The groin injury bears watching but assuming it’s not too serious, Dickerson is a guy to target on the wire.
Raimel Tapia has a good chance of already being on a roster in your league but you should double-check to make sure. The Rockies are letting him play regularly and at the top of the order no less. That makes him well worth a roster spot should he still be available.
Anthony DeSclafani is surging after his complete-game shutout. Looking past that, he’s been a solid contributor all season, averaging 18 points a start. At this point, he’s moved out of the streaming category and I’d feel good about keeping him on my roster.
Huascar Ynoa has been pretty good outside of his one blowup start against the Cubs. He got his revenge against them this week. The strikeouts have been impressive and once he settles in and hopefully he’ll start getting deeper into games.
Alex Wood has been great since coming off the injured list, racking up three straight wins. You’ve also got to love 20:3 K:BB. His next start might make you a little hesitant to roll him out given that it’s in Colorado but at this point, he’s shown enough that I’m willing to take that chance.
Kyle Gibson is logging innings and that’s great. Other than the absolute disaster that was his first time out he’s managed to go at least six frames. He’s only averaging 13 points a start but that number is dragged down by the negative 15 he opened with. Obviously, we can’t ignore that completely but he has rebounded nicely since then.
Nick Pivetta is finally ready for his breakout. Not quite because he’s still walking too many batters but he’s still managing to put up points. The free passes keep him as a match-up play but I’m cautiously optimistic and would feel comfortable rolling him out for his next start against the Tigers.
Lou Trivino is making the most of his opportunities and is in the mix for saves. He should absolutely be owned in leagues with RP slots and even has value in leagues that don’t require relievers.
Kendall Graveman has secured his spot as the top arm in the Mariners pen. That puts him in line for saves and potentially some multi-inning outings.
