With 16 home runs, 45 RBIs, 8 stolen bases and 230 fantasy points in 53 games, Paul Goldschmidt has been “making it rain” points in fantasy baseball land so far this season. While some might come close, none have been “as good as gold”. When we asked Tony the Tiger for his felinely opinion he has this to say. “Paul’s not good, he’s GOOOOLD!” Thanks Tony.
When gold was first discovered in Sacramento Valley way back in early 1848 it sparked the well-known Gold Rush of 1849. Some 300,000 people came to California in search of golden riches, marking one of the more significant events in 19th century US history. Well, I think it’s time to dust off your covered wagons and starting making your way to Arizona because I think we’re on the brink of the Gold Rush of 2015. Goldschmidt is on pace for 48 homers, 137 RBIs, 24 stolen bases and a whopping 703 fantasy points. Move over 49’ers!
In honor of our golden hero I have decided to make this week’s entire post a tribute to him.
So, who else has been a gold mine lately?
Let’s start with an oldie, but a goodie. Albert Pujols. I couldn’t be happier about this one as I drafted him in as many leagues as I could and it is starting to pay off in spades. In the last 14 days, Prince Albert has 7 knocks, 13 runs batted in and is batting .327 with 65 points. Looks like this member of fantasy baseball royalty still has plenty of whoop ass left in his can of whoop ass. Speaking of members, I wonder if they will be doing an Austin Power’s Goldmember sequel starring Paul Goldschmidt. And if so, will they show his gold member? Would you like a shmoke und a pancake?
From one prince to another. Guess who’s batting .415 with 5 homers, 17 RBIs and 66 points in the last two weeks? That would be Prince Fielder. Thus far Fielder has been “worth his weight in gold”, and if we’re talking about Fielder that speaks volumes. With 177 points (0.77 PPPA) on the season, Prince has re-proven himself fantasy elite.
Paul is said to be rooting heavily for the Golden State Warriors in this year’s NBA Championships.
The “heart of gold” award goes to Mr. Myagi’s favorite ball player. Josh Donald-son. Over the last two weeks he has 6 dingers to go with his 60 points. And, on the season, he is 4th amongst hitters in points with 190 points. With 15 homers, 39 RBIs and 2 stolen bases, Donaldson trails only Goldschmidt, Harper and Rizzo in points. Mr. Myagi is targeting the All-Valley Karate Tournament for the moment Josh makes a run at the gold medal.
In his spare time, Paul loves to play Goldeneye on his Nintendo Gamecube and enjoys playing fetch with his golden retriever named Goldilocks.
Here are a few more players that have been raising the price of gold the last two weeks.
Andrew McCutchen (63 points), Nolan Arenado (64), A.J. Pollock (54), Billy Burns (49), Joc Pederson (53), Joe Panik (50), Evan Gattis (50) and Jason Kipnis (49).
If only Jerry Sands (20 points) had given me a legitimate reason to include him in this post I could have busted out the “That’s gold, Jerry. Gold!” line.
Paul’s favorite actress is Goldie Hawn, citing her role in Wildcats as one of her best performances.
It’s important to remember that “all that glitters is not gold”. However Dallas Keuchel is doing his best job at proving he’s not fool’s gold. I love what I’ve seen so far. With a 7-1 record, an ERA of 1.85, a WHIP of 0.92, what’s not to like. On top of that, opponents are batting just .189 against him. Keuchel has 284 points on the season and is averaging 23.6 points per start. That’s ace points. But… with that all said, if I can trade Dallas for a pitcher such as Cole Hamels, Gerrit Cole, Zach Grienke, Matt Harvey or James Shields, I’d definitely make that deal. I’d also entertain many other offers if I was able to sell Dallas at his current value.
McDonalds has the golden arches. McDowell’s has the golden arcs. And Paul Goldschmidt owners have the Golden Child. Which ironically, along with Coming To America, is another awesome Eddie Murphy movie. I want the knife! Please…
If Paul Goldschmidt moved to Colorado and sold weed, would he name his dispensary “Pot of Gold”?
