Sorry, I missed everyone with no article last week. Had some technical difficulties over here at Razzball, and I forgot to save my DFS draft. It didn’t cash so I guess from that aspect it turned out okay. We’re about 3/4 of the way through the season now, so about 7 weeks left to make some money on DFS. Let’s get to it!
I’ll be bringing you my DFS picks for the main evening slate on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023. If you play on DraftKings, it is a 12-game slate starting at 6:05 Central time. This article will be primarily focused on the DraftKings slate, so if you play on Fanduel I encourage you to sign up for the DFS tools to help you make the best decisions for your lineups on FanDuel, DraftKings, and Yahoo.
New to DFS? You can start playing right now on FanDuel and put our picks to the test. Bobby Miller, SP: $8,600. Miller has had double-digit point starts in 7 of his last 8 and will face a Cleveland team devoid of power with a .688 OPS. The Guardians do strike out at the lowest rate in MLB, but they also are 28th in soft contact.
Grayson Rodriguez, SP: $6,100. Taking a value shot here on GRod who has had 5 straight decent starts. He’ll get Toronto at home in Camden Yards which is a solid pitcher’s park. Ironically his ERA is over 2 runs higher at home. Vlad Jr. is DTD and may be out of the lineup. The Blue Jays got a look at him three weeks ago in Toronto but didn’t hit the ball hard off him and I’m hoping for more tonight.
Adley Rutschman, C: $5,400. Adley will face those Blue Jays in Baltimore. He’ll face Yusei Kikuchi. In 18 official plate appearances vs the lefty, he has a .357 Batting average with 2 Home Runs and 4 walks to only 2 strikeouts.
Ryan Mountcastle, 1B: $4,300. This line looks similar to Adley. In 16 Official plate appearances vs Yusei he has a killer .583 batting average with 4 Home runs. That’s right I said 4 Home Runs, and 4 walks to only 2 strikeouts. He’s also hit safely in 14 of 15. This might be one of the best batter vs pitcher price for this level of success I can remember.
Dylan Moore, 2B: $2,800. Value slot incoming here as Moore has cut down on the strikeouts and gotten his average up to .253. He followed a two Homer effort on Saturday with a four hit day Sunday and should have a clear path to the lineup. He’ll face Mike Clevinger who he’s hit 1 for 3 with a walk in his career.
Royce Lewis, 3B: $3,800. Lewis is hitting .319 with 4 Home runs in 113 At-bats when healthy. He’ll face veteran lefty Wade Miley in Milwaukee tonight.
Bobby Witt Jr., SS: $5,800. Witt has a 14 game hit streak going with four Home runs over that span. He’ll face Hogan Harris and his 6.98 ERA in Oakland tonight.
Austin Hays, OF: $3,700. Hays doesn’t have quite the success that the earlier Orioles selections do, but he has homered off Yusei in his career.
Shohei Ohtani, OF: $6,500. Debated between Acuna and Ohtani here as my premium OF selection, but went with Ohtani thinking Graham Ashcraft has been prone to give up the long ball even while getting deep in games the last two months. The 43 Home Runs for Ohtani also factored into the decision.
Hunter Renfroe, OF: $3,000. If they pitch around Ohtani there’s Renfroe, who for some reason is this cheap even with 18 Home Runs. He’s 3 for 8 with against Ashcraft with a long ball in his career.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
Small chance of storms in Cleveland, Detroit, and the south Side of Chicago. Could be some strong winds still in Oakland blowing out to right.
