Well, second week in a row my DFS column here at Razzball comes in off a loser. We nailed both starting pitchers again but also put up nearly nada with the bats despite having a fairly large investment in hitters. 1-3 on Double-Ups on the season and onto a new week we go! Lots of things happening around baseball so far heading into Tuesday. Brent Rooker has busted out, I grabbed him almost everywhere last week and have been handsomely rewarded. He reminds me of a healthy Adam Duvall so 30-40 Home Runs is in the cards if he stays healthy. Rooker should have more staying power than Richard Hidalgo so I think he’s gonna be a nice option for the next few years. Oh, and the Pitchers…the injuries just keep coming. Not that Jacob deGrom was unexpected, but the sheer number of arms on the shelf certainly is. I have a Draft Champions league where I am down to 9 pitching options left on my entire roster already. Next year I might just draft all pitchers who are coming back off an injury from the year before. At least then most things should be fixed on their arms right?
I’ll be bringing you my DFS picks for the main evening slate on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023. If you play on DraftKings, it is a 12-game slate starting at 6:05 Central time. This article will be primarily focused on the DraftKings slate, so if you play on Fanduel I encourage you to sign up for the DFS tools to help you make the best decisions for your lineups on FanDuel, DraftKings, and Yahoo.

Hunter Brown, SP: $9,600. The Wild Huntsman has been lights out in 3 out of 5 starts so far this year. He has yet to allow a Home Run on the season and is striking out over a batter an inning. He’ll face the San Francisco Giants at home tonight. The Giants are third in MLB in Home Runs hit so far this year, but like I said Brown doesn’t allow any (This is a jinx if I ever read one). The upside of facing the Giants lineups is they also strikeout more than any other team in the majors through once month.
Tyler Wells, SP: $7,300. This combination of starting pitchers was not on my 2023 DFS Bingo Card. That being said Gallen was my other thought here, but as good as he has been that Rangers offense is scary. Also, Brown Gallen Water isn’t nearly as catchy of a title and actually, it’s kind of even more disgusting. Wells is due for some regression with a 4.29 xFIP compared to his 2.79 ERA. His K-rate is where expected, but his walks are way down. He’ll face the Royals on Tuesday who have scored 2 or fewer runs in 14 of 29 contests and have a league worst .624 OPS. I look for him to keep on keeping zeroes on the scoresheet.
Keibert Ruiz, C: $2,900. I am not sure if waking up is the right term to use for the Nationals offense, but they are averaging 5 runs per contest over their last 5. Speaking of waking up though, Ruiz has hit safely in 7 of 8 games. The power stroke hasn’t shown often as of yet, but his Home Run last week off Jose Butto was a thing of beauty. Be ready to pivot here as he is making his third straight start Monday night, and could get a rest day.
Rowdy Tellez, 1B: $4,800. Let’s see who is playing in Coors tonight. Rowdy is! He’s launched 8 dingers so far on the season and is riding a four game hitting streak. he’ll face Ryan Feltner Tuesday night and his 4.68 ERA. He’s only pitched one game in Coors so far to this point so I think the Crew is gonna go off tonight on him.
Whit Merrifield, 2B: $3,600. Well, Whitless isn’t hitless, just homerless. He has hit safely in 14 of 15 and is playing almost every day. He’ll face Tanner Houck in Boston tonight with the wind blowing lightly out towards the monster. Let’s take the flyer that he gets off the Homer Schneid tonight.
Anthony Rendon, 3B: $4,200. Speaking of people who haven’t yet homered this season say hello to the oft-injured wonder Mr. Rendon. He’ll face off against Steven Matz in St. Louis tonight. He has 4 Home Runs in 31 career at-bats against Matz and is sporting a .323 BA. I’d say he sees him well. I wonder what the Home Run parlay for Merrifield and Rendon to both homer tonight pays?
Jorge Mateo, SS: $4,700. Jorge just keeps hitting, currently with a seven game hit streak. He has homered in 3 of his last five games. He’ll draw Ryan Yarbrough who is making his second start of the year and holding down a 6.35 ERA. I think the hit streak keeps on rolling.
Austin Hays, OF: $4,100. Hays is back healthy and is hitting .312 with 4 Long balls on the season. I like the Orioles stacks tonight as well this evening in tournaments.
Cody Bellinger, OF: $4,000. Belly is back baby. Or is it back after a baby? After the Dodgers baby boom last month keep your eyes on Toronto 9 months from now after the Maple Leafs finally won a playoff series after 19 years. Anyhoo…Bellinger has the K-Rate down to where it was during his 47 Homer campaign and looks to be locked in. He has homered in 4 of 7 and will face Trevor Williams tonight in the nation’s Capital City.
Nick Castellanos, OF: $4,800. Castellanos has the average at .313 with 4 Home Runs so far. He had an 8 game hitting streak end on Friday but looks solid. He’ll face Julio Urias and the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine tonight. After only allowing 5 earned runs over his first four starts Urias has been touched up for 11 in his last two outings. My fantasy teams aside I hope he gets lit up again tonight.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
Gonna be a cool one out there tonight. Every game besides the ones happening in Texas has a game time temperature below 60 degrees. There’s gonna be a rain-out again in Detroit. Look for very strong winds blowing out in St. Louis and moderate breezes blowing out in Colorado, Oakland, Chicago, and KC.
Doing Lines In Vegas
I did mention I do a bit of Sports Handicapping. Follow me on Twitter @TheGreat Knoche for more info. I’ll give out a Free Play here every Tuesday, but you can find all my free and premium picks for MLB and a few other sports at The Odds Breakers
Tyler Wells and the Orioles are currently only -138 favorites against the Royals as of time of writing. Giddy Up!
