I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend. Thank you to all that have served. And thank you to the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice along with their loved ones.
It’s Tuesday DFS time as we reach the 1/3 marker on this wonderful season. My May plays so far were very profitable as we cashed in 2/4 Double-ups with these picks and had a big tournament cash a few weeks ago. My straight MLB bets also had a successful month of May and my fantasy teams (Outside of RCLs) are performing solid. We’re hoping to keep the momentum rolling here as we turn the calendar to June later in the week.
With that, I’ll be bringing you my DFS picks for the main evening slate on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023. If you play on DraftKings, it is an 13-game slate starting at 6:05 Central time. This article will be primarily focused on the DraftKings slate, so if you play on Fanduel I encourage you to sign up for the DFS tools to help you make the best decisions for your lineups on FanDuel, DraftKings, and Yahoo.
New to DFS? You can start playing right now on FanDuel and put our picks to the test. Kyle Gibson, SP: $7,500. Gibson is about as inconsistent as they come, but he does have quality starts in 6 of 11 outings this season. His K/9 is only at 6, but he’s pitching at home against the Guardians and there are a lot of good things that go along with that. First off the one bad thing, the Guardians don’t strike out much. They are actually the best in MLB at that, but their contact is hot garbage. It’s like hitting coach Chris Valaika told them he wanted them all to hit like Pat Valaika. Seriously though did he miss the launch angle memo? The Guardians have only hit 30 Home Runs on the year. For Perspective the league leading Rays are at 101, and the Braves and Dodgers have also almost tripled them up at 89 dongs on the season. Also, Camden Yards has gone all the way down to 29th in offensive ballpark factors this year with the left field fences now in DC. Anyhoo, if Gibson keeps the walks in check look for a solid seven innings performance.
Bryce Elder, SP: $9,300. There’s plenty of options here with the big slate. Shane McClanahan, Joe Ryan, Zach Gallen, and Logan Gilbert all check-in at over 10k tonight. While I love all those guys they are pricier because of their much higher strikeout floors, I am opting for the cheaper play here. Elder will face the historically bad Oakland Athletics in Oakland late tonight. The A’s have an MLB worst .628 OPS vs. right handed pitching. Elder has allowed 2 earned runs or less in eight of his ten starts including five straight. I see no reason why it doesn’t get to six straight tonight. Streamonator also loves Kodai Senga tonight and there’s a lefty on the mound versus the Brewers which is always a solid option – Looking at you Mr. Kikuchi
Connor Wong, C: $3,000. I talked about some pitchers streamonator likes now here’s one it hates tonight…Ben Lively. You might ask why all the hate as the peripherals look like they are backing up his MLB performance thus far? Well, he was an average pitcher in the KBO during COVID and came back last year and couldn’t get out of the minors. Four solid AAA starts this year got him promoted, but his K rate was under 6 and his xFIP was 5.71. In his two MLB starts he has a K-Rate over 9 and a 3.12 xFIP. Which pitcher is he? Probably somewhere in the middle and Fenway Park isn’t where I’d want to be finding out. As for Wong he’s become the everyday catcher in Boston and has hit safely in 6 of 7. This is certainly not the Wong selection tonight.
Pete Alonso, 1B: $5,500. Pete Beef has homered in 7 of his last 12 games. Pete Beef has 6 Home Runs in 61 At-Bats vs lefties this season. Pete Beef faces a lefty Ranger Suarez who has a 9.82 ERA on the season over his three starts since coming back from injury. Pete Beef! Any Questions?
Brett Wisely, 2B: $2,000. I wanted to put in a petition to Draftkings to remove 2B as a position in their DFS cards. I really wanted to draft no one at their current prices so I did the next best thing and took Wisely who is filling in for Thairo Estrada out by the bay for the minimum. He’ll face Johan Oveido in San Fran, keep an eye out and make sure he starts. It could be Casey Schmitt, but Wisely has so far gotten the starts against righties. He’s hitting .181 with 2 Home Runs on the season and he did hit 15 long balls last year in AA so I guess if you’re the hopeful type like me go for it. If you are not hopeful put Ozzie Albies in your lineup.
Rafael Devers, 3B: $6,100. Piling on Lively again here. After a torrid April with 10 Home Runs Devers has cooled off in May only going deep 3 times and 2 of those came in the same game. Maybe he can catch up to April tonight with two more in the same game.
Matt McLain, SS: $4,100. Staying in Boston and riding with the Double-M’d sword here. McLain has lived up to his billing so far and his price is rapidly rising. I still like it here at just over 4K. In his 12 games so far he has hit safely in 10 of them with two Home Runs and six multi-hit efforts. He’ll face Brayon Bello who is working his way towards becoming an ace, but he’s not there quite yet.
Masataka Yoshida, OF: $5,900. While Yoshida hasn’t found his power stroke and is homerless since May 5th his hitting has still been solid as he is still sporting a .303 average. Looking for him to get right like Devers vs. Lively tonight. Let’s say maybe Bring the Homers back from the dead against Lively.
Michael Conforto, OF: $3,800. Conforto has six Home Runs in his last fifteen contests and seven multi-hit games over that span.
Corey Dickerson, OF: $2,800. Back in Action on the strong side of the platoon in left field for about two weeks now Dickerson has raked in his limited time to the tune of a .333 BA and 2 Home Runs. He’ll face Tony Gonsolin at Los Angeles tonight.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
Maybe a stray thunderstorm in St. Louis, but otherwise no wind or rain issues tonight.
Doing Lines In Vegas
I did mention I do a bit of Sports Handicapping. Follow me on Twitter @TheGreatKnoche for more info. I’ll give out a Free Play here every Tuesday, but you can find all my free and premium picks for MLB and a few other sports at The Odds Breakers
I’ll be on the game I have most guys in my lineup for. Red Sox/ Reds over 9.5. The Reds are hitting really well right now and I think Lively is due for a clunker as outlined above. Good luck everyone.
