Well, we finally had a breakthrough last week in DFS. All it took was putting 3 Oakland Athletics in my lineup. If you used my exact card last week you would have finished top 2% in most tournaments as I did and had yourself a very nice payday. I’m not saying that the A’s strategy is the route to go, but sometimes zigging when everyone else zags is a good thing.
I’ll be bringing you my DFS picks for the main evening slate on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2023. If you play on DraftKings, it is an 10-game slate starting at 6:05 Central time. This article will be primarily focused on the DraftKings slate, so if you play on Fanduel I encourage you to sign up for the DFS tools to help you make the best decisions for your lineups on FanDuel, DraftKings, and Yahoo.
New to DFS? You can start playing right now on FanDuel and put our picks to the test. Eduardo Rodriguez, SP: $8,800. I don’t see any decent way to get around paying for some pitching tonight. With Spencer Strider the top option going for $12,300 and four total pitchers going for over 10K I thought EdRod looked like a value here at $8,800. He had his second-worst start of the year last time out against the Pirates allowing 4 Earned runs, but for the most part has sparkled lately. In his last seven starts, five of them have been the quality variety and only one of those outings features less than 5 strikeouts. He’ll face the Royals, who have actually been much better against lefties this season, but they’re still the Royals.
Alex Cobb, SP: $8,300. Sticking with the theme of pitchers coming off one of their worst starts of the year I present Alex Cobb. He hasn’t allowed more than 3 earned runs in any start this year, but he also hasn’t gotten out of the 4th innings three different times. He bounced back following each of the other two outings to produce well for DFS owners. He’ll face the Twins and their MLB worst number of strikeouts entering play tonight.
Christian Vazquez, C: $2,500. Going against one of my pitchers at catcher here with good reason. Vazquez has 20 career At-bats off Cobb and is 12 for 20. Hoping for a couple singles out of him as we go value catcher to load up elsewhere.
Matt Olson, 1B: $5,300. The Dodgers pitching carousel lands on Bobby Miller who will make his major league debut against the Braves. His 2022 was solid across two levels with a K/9 rate over 11. He has struggled in a few starts this year after working through spring shoulder soreness. I think he’s walking into a hornets nest tonight in Atlanta. Olson has hit safely in 6 of 7 going into Monday and has 13 Home runs on the year.
Ozzie Albies, 2B: $4,600. Albies only has one homer in his last 15 games, but has ten on the season. Looks like a Braves stack coming in.
Austin Riley, 3B: $4,800. Y’all know why. Austin Riley has underachieved so far. I’d say Trea Turner has surpassed his disappointment for where he was drafted, but not many others before Riley gets on the list. Here’s hoping he joins the party
Willy Adames, SS: $3,700. The Brewers slugger also continues to struggle batting .212 on the season. He’ll face J.P. France and the Astros tonight. France looked good his first two times out, but got railed by the Cubs last time. I lean toward the Brewers having a bounce back this evening.
Ronald Acuna Jr., OF: $6,500. Is he expensive? Yes. Is he worth it? Hell Yes! He’s hit safely in 12 straight and is at .344 on the season with 11 Home Runs. It’s definitely not Miller Time tonight.
Matt Vierling, OF: $2,400. I’m a day late here maybe, but Vierling has hit safely in five straight with 2 Home Runs. He’ll face Daniel Lynch coming off the IL or Josh Taylor.
Ramon Laureano, OF: $3,100. It worked last week having an Athletic in the lineup so we’re going with it again. He gets Marco Gonzales tonight in Seattle who he has homered off in his career.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
Chance of some storms in Denver and maybe some wind blowing in. No real threat to the game being cancelled though. No other weather on the horizon.

Spencer Strider goes for the Braves tonight. With me stacking against Miller I have to play the Braves run line tonight at -105.
