Another week of prospecting, another pair of systems to review for your strapping heroes of dynasty and fantasy baseball. I’m speaking of course, of yours truly Warrior Poet Ralph Lifshitz Esq. and Grand Master Michael C. Halpern of Imaginarybrickwall.com. Just in case you’re wondering, the C stands for cunning, don’t ask me, ask Mike. As for the actual show this week, we get the already juiced up Cubs fans more jacked up, as we delve into their impressive farm system. Once we’re done creaming our jeans over Eloy Jimenez, Ian Happ, and Dylan Cease, we move onto the rejuvenated Cincy system. We spend the second half of the show singing the praises of Nick Senzel, Taylor Trammell, Chris Okey, and Amir Garrett. The big news is I admit defeat in my Jesse Winker hate-o-thon, and agree with Halp that he has 2017 breakout written all over him. As for the rest you gotta listen for yourself. It’s the latest episode of the Razzball Fantasy Prospect Podcast.

    Hey Ralph,

Is it weird that I’m getting a Taillon vibe from James Kaprielian? Highly touted righty, had injury woes, good with command so is expected to move up the ladder quickly.

In a 2016 & J2 draft, how high would you slot him?

Second question. I know comps are pretty universally shunned when talking prospects, but I’m having some trouble coming up with one for Travis Demerritte. Got any? My stab in the dark is Dan Uggla with 10 SB speed.

@The JoGarza: I’d probabaly rank Kap as the first pitcher in first year player drafts. I’d take him before Puk for sure. Groome would depend on how my team was constructed. If I was looking for a shot in the arm some time in the next two years I’d grab Kap. If I was eyeing 3-4 years I’d go Groome. I’d probably rank him 6th.

Uggla is one I’ve heard but I doubt he’s ever the impact guy Uggla was early in his career, at least for fantasy. He strikes out more than Uggla. I don’t like comps because I”m not good at them. Haha

    Black Mirror? Right?

@Grey: Yeah we watched the first three episodes. It was real good, like the Twilight Zone setup. I felt awful for the Prime Minster. It’s so twisted it’s genius.

Cougs was out the other night when I was watching and the wind blew through our window and I got super freaked out… I was spooked, yo!

  3. Undercover Agent says:
    (link)

My dynasty league uses real contracts with a bidding process for unowned players and free agents in the offseason. The players have the bid as their contract for that year then it reverts to real life value if they are kept. You also lose a player when they hit free agency. Also international signees are classed as free agents and not in the prospect draft.
Bearing this in mind is it worth spending big on Maitan or Gourriel Jr??
Moncada was signed for $17mil out of a $155mil budget for reference.

    • Ralph Lifshitz

@Undercover Agent: I’d avoid Gurriel Jr. the reports I’m hearing aren’t great. Maitan is a great talent but he’s 4 years away minimum. I’m not sure it’s worth spending in a leagueblike that if there’s cost involved with keeping them. I’d bid high on someone like Zack Collins

So Singleton gets sent off to pasture. Now when will those Singlefites finally admit he’s made for the KBO?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

@Big Odio: I too am a Singleton truther. I hope the Astros broke the news to him by beginning with “Jon how’s your bat-flip?”

You know he’s hoping he signs with a team in Washington, California, Colorado, or Massachusetts.
