Dubbed “Opening Day 2.0,” yesterday was quite weird. We had two star players scratched just hours before their games and baseball played in front of cardboard cutout fans with pretend crowd noise. Not to mention a five-and-a-third inning rain shortened affair where both starters logged complete games. Fortunately, we’ve got 28 teams in action on FanDuel Friday, so it’s time for Opening Day 2.0… again! Maybe this time around will be a bit less wonky.

22-year-old Rafael Devers ($3,900), a.k.a. Baby Face Killa, has been an elite hitter against right-handed pitching with a .325/.383/.598 line, along with 24 homers and just a 15.8% K-rate. He can easily finish as one of Tuesday’s top hitters against an opener in Edinson Volquez, who has more walks (11) than strikeouts (9), followed by Ariel Jurado and his 5.73 ERA. Devers should be a centerpiece of your lineups and is affordable at this price.

Mets starter Zack Wheeler ($8,300) leads the pack against the Diamondbacks, who have been well below-average against right-handers with their .312 wOBA. Wheeler has a 3.68 FIP and a 3.86 Deserved Run Average, suggesting that he’s pitched much better than his 4.33 ERA. He’s allowed just two earned runs over his last two starts and is in a good spot at home.

If there’s one reason to start James Paxton ($9,200), it’s to rack up strikeouts, as Paxton’s 29.2% K-rate is one of the best in the game. That’s why he’s got so much upside for this start against the Rangers, who strike out more than any other team against lefties at 26.0%. Paxton has recorded a win in six straight starts, and should have another strong performance here.

FanDuel: Rhys Lightning

Phillies slugger Rhys Hoskins ($3,900) has been phenomenal against left-handed pitching this year, as he’s posted a 158 wRC+ and a walk rate (25.0%) significantly higher than his strikeout rate (18.4%). Hoskins gets another chance to feast on a southpaw tonight against Steven Brault, who has outperformed his 4.23 FIP and 5.03 SIERA. The majority of Hoskins’ homers have come at home in a hitter’s park in Philadelphia, so this is an ideal opportunity for him to break out of his recent cold streak. His new spot batting leadoff is certainly unconventional, but it’s awesome for daily contests, as an extra plate appearance can make a big difference. And if the Phillies lineup has a big performance, he’s a virtual lock for production atop the order. With so much going for him, Hoskins can easily finish as tonight’s top first basemen, if not one of the top scoring hitters overall.

While his overall results haven’t been ideal, Mets starter Zack Wheeler ($10,700) has been on fire this season. His 3.50 FIP and 3.24 Deserved Run Average suggest that he’s pitched much better than his ERA, and his 26.0% K-rate and 6.1% walk-rate are both career bests. Wheeler dominated the White Sox for seven scoreless innings his last time out, and should have another big performance tonight at home against the Marlins. Miami has been the worst offense in baseball against right-handed pitching according to their awful .281 wOBA, and their 25.3% strikeout-rate is extremely high. Wheeler is well worth the investment as your ace tonight.

Juan Soto is just 20 years old and has a .286/.397/.509 line with 18 homers and eight steals, making for a phenomenal sophomore season. He’s got a 135 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this year and is a great buy low candidate at his price of just $3,500, which is due to a mini-slump since the midseason break. He still has two homers and two steals in the last 15 days, and gets an enticing matchup against Braves starter Julio Teheran. Teheran has outperformed his peripherals thus far, and his 4.45 FIP and 5.06 SIERA are more suggestive of his true performance than his 3.42 ERA.

FanDuel: Keuchel on the Low

There are lots of options to choose from at starting pitcher tonight, but most guys are fairly pricy and are going to cost you. Braves starter Dallas Keuchel is an exception, though, as he comes in at just $7,200, despite a 3.58 ERA through six starts. Keuchel hasn’t been racking up many strikeouts, but he should be counted on for a strong outing against a Royals lineup that has just a .295 wOBA versus lefties this year, ranking them as a bottom-five offense. On a night where many owners will be spending up on their pitchers, rolling with Keuchel as a contrarian value pick seems like it could hit.

FanDuel: It’s Goin’ Down

The Dodgers obliterated the Phillies for 16 runs yesterday, and they’re in for another big performance against Vince Velasquez. Velasquez has a 5.36 FIP with an awful 2.08 HR/9, so the loaded LA lineup should tear it up again in a hitter’s park in Philadelphia. Atop their lineup is Joc Pederson, who has crushed right-handed pitching this year with a 135 wRC+ and 20 homers. He’s only $2,700 at first base tonight, which is an awesome value for a leadoff hitter. Just like the Yung Joc song says, “It’s goin dowwwwn.”

FanDuel: Ground Chuck

There’s plenty of starting pitching to choose from on tonight’s FanDuel slate, but one option stands above the rest. Rays starter Charlie Morton is having a phenomenal year, with a 2.43 ERA, a 2.91 FIP, a 2.62 Deserved Run Average, and he projects to be the top starting pitcher on Tuesday. Morton’s got a dominant 29.9% K-rate and has a great matchup against the Orioles, whose poor .300 wOBA ranks them as a bottom-five offense against right-handed pitching. Baltimore is even worse when they’re away from their hitter-friendly park, with a .285 wOBA and a 25.1% strikeout-rate on the road. In a pitcher’s environment at home, Morton should easily put together a dominant start and is well worth the investment in cash games.

FanDuel: Biebs in the Trap

Cleveland starter Shane Bieber ($9,800) has put together an outstanding season thus far, posting an elite 31.4% K-rate with just a 5.7% walk-rate, good for a 3.68 FIP and a 3.27 SIERA. He’s coming off of two straight dominant outings where he’s struck out 20 batters in 13 2/3 innings and faces a Royals lineup that is in the bottom-third of the league in wOBA against righties with their .309 mark. There’s a ton of quality starting pitching to choose from on the slate, but Bieber’s strikeout upside puts him in the same class as Scherzer and Cole – only Bieber will save you $1,300 in payroll.
