FanDuel: Jacob deGrom: The Show

Usually you want to avoid starting pitchers in Coors Field, but Jacob deGrom is an exception. He’s got 21 strikeouts in 14 innings and has the highest upside of any starter on the slate no matter what planet he’s pitching on. deGrom is so dominant it’s like he’s playing a video game. If deGrom’s rostership goes down because of the ballpark he becomes an even better play, as this is one of the ugliest iterations of a Rockies lineup we have seen in years. The cold weather will also favor deGrom, so as long as there are no snow delays he can be locked in as your starting pitcher.

In his first start against the Athletics, McCullers struck out seven batters in five innings with just one earned run, so his ceiling is even higher if he can work deeper into this outing. FanDuel: H to the Rizzo

Anthony Rizzo ($3,400) leads the Cubs tonight in a stack that could be overlooked against Dylan Cease. Cease has good numbers on the surface but has been getting extremely lucky, as he’s got a 5.92 FIP and just a 16.7% K-rate. Rizzo is batting .277 over the last two weeks and can easily be used as a standalone batting atop the Cubs order. Otherwise, pair him with affordable Cubs bats like Kyle Schwarber ($2,900) and Willson Contreras ($2,900). If the Cubs aren’t highly rostered, they could be the ticket to taking down a tournament on FanDuel tonight.

He’s got a ridiculous 37.4% K-rate and has struck out seven or more batters in six consecutive starts. Glasnow isn’t an ideal cash play because of his volatility, but he has slate-breaking potential in tournaments. Go ahead and smash Glasnow in your lineups.

FanDuel: Olson Leads A’s Stack

While Matt Olson ($3,300) appears to be having a rough year with a .193 batting average, he’s got a career high walk-rate at 15.7% to keep his head above water with a .320 OBP. He’s still hitting for a lot of power, with 12 home runs on the year and a 93rd percentile exit velocity. Olson and the A’s should tee off on Rangers starter Jordan Lyles, who has a 1.77 HR/9 and an 8.07 ERA. Tommy La Stella, Ramon Laureano, and other Athletics hitters are very affordable to be easily paired with Olson in a stack.

FanDuel: Use Belt to Hold Up Your Lineups

Brandon Belt ($3,000) has been unstoppable over the last two weeks, as he’s batting .529. He’s now got a 1.082 OPS against righties on the season, so it’s remarkable how cheap he is on FanDuel. Opposing starter Taylor Clark looks like a bad matchup on the surface, but his 4.70 FIP is more indicative of his performance. Clark has gotten ridiculously lucky with a 1.30 BABIP and an 86.2% LOB rate. Belt can be considered in any and all contests until he gets the shine he deserves.

FanDuel: Sippin’ on Heaney

Angels starter Andrew Heaney is having an odd year – as if things couldn’t get weird enough this season. He’s got a career low 0.61 HR/9, yet his ERA is up to 5.52. Some of it is due to an inflated 8.8% walk-rate, but he’s also getting hurt by a 60.2 LOB% and a .338 BABIP, both of which should regress in Heaney’s favor. He’s got a ton of upside in this start against the Mariners, who have the fourth-highest K-rate against lefties at 27.3%. I’m ready to sip on some Heaney tonight in GPP tournaments for what should be a fun Friday slate of baseball.

FanDuel: Buy Buehler Low

On this FanDuel Friday, Walker Buehler ($8,500) is the fourth highest priced pitcher on the slate.  FOURTH!  Last season we would have dreamed of the days Walker wasn’t the highest priced pitcher on the board.  Yes, he has been awful through his first four starts, but with his track record it’s hard to believe that this is anything but early season small sample weirdness. A home start against the Rockies is just what the doctor ordered, as Colorado ranks dead last in wOBA on the road at .270. This is likely the lowest price Buehler will reach all year, so buy low on him.

Cruz’s 18 RBI are tied for fourth across baseball, and you should expect more production tonight out of the Twins three-hole. Opposing starter Jakob Junis had a 5.28 ERA last year and Cruz gets to face him in a hitter-friendly environment at home. Invest in Cruz as a standalone play or as part of a Twins stack and cruise to the cash on FanDuel.

FanDuel: Boyd Back

Matthew Boyd ($7,900) had a tough time in his first two starts this year, but a night against the Pirates is what Boyd needs to bounce back. The Pirates were the weakest lineup in baseball against left-handed pitching last year with a .289 wOBA. They’ve hit lefties well so far this season, but I’m willing to bet against that small sample performance… glances in the direction of Philip Evans and Guillermo Heredia… I wouldn’t be worried about Boyd tonight. After posting a 30.2% K-rate last year, Boyd’s got lots of upside to chase in GPP tournaments.

FanDuel: Weekend at Coors

Today is the day that DFS’ers and daily lineup setters alike have been waiting for – the first series of the year at Coors Field. In case you’re not familiar, Coors is the ultimate hitter’s park and the best run scoring environment imaginable. On FanDuel, literally every hitter in either the Padres or Rockies lineup is in play. That makes Tommy Pham (3,800) and Trent Grisham ($3,300) top targets at their prices. And if someone like Matt Kemp ($2,800) makes his way into the lineup, he’s worth playing too. Coors hitters are a popular strategy, but it’s for good reason, so expect plenty of production from a Padres or Rockies stack.
