What is up party people? What if I told you that Cubs hitters are lighting it up right now? Yeah, not the team I was expecting to give us a gaggle of fantasy bats but here we are. Fantasy points can come from anywhere so enjoy the ride and with whatever magic they’re cooking maybe look into grabbing any and all Cubs hitters who are still available.

Cody Bellinger – Always liked him even though he was a Dodger, so I am extra happy to see his hitting stroke rebound in Chicago. He was an elite bat and then poof, his swing disappeared. This year is not only a different story, it is an entirely new book. As I write this he is batting north .330 with 17 home runs. Obviously, we shouldn’t expect him to touch his career highs in the power department but flirting with 30 is within reach.

Mike Tauchman – Playing time will be an issue but you can’t ignore his last two weeks at the plate. He has been on an absolute roll, surging his way into the spotlight. That earns him the rather prestigious title of Weekly Hero. It ain’t much but it’s honest work. He also gets that title because he’s much more widely available than many other hot bats. There’s definitely some potential value here as his recent stretch demonstrates. However, the Cubs have a crowded outfield and have shown no qualms about sitting him against left-handed pitchers. That puts a damper on his success and makes him more attractive in daily leagues.

Ian Happ – Yep another Cubs outfielder. In spite of a batting average in the .230 range, he’s racked up some points the last couple weeks. Hopefully, he can keep up the power.

Jeimer Candelario – What can I say, Cubs hitters are so hot right now. He may be new to the team but he’s caught Cubs fever. Must be something in the clubhouse water. Before the trade, he was pretty good and figures to see a boost in production with an upgrade in supporting cast.

Bobby Witt Jr – Feels like he’s quietly having a very nice season. He’s hitting for power and still flashing the wheels. I’d like to see him turn that speed into more doubles but you can’t be mad at what he’s given you, especially with him cutting down on strikeouts in the second half. Dude is uber talented and still young so I don’t think it’s crazy to think he can be even better than he has been.

Alec Bohm – July was a great month for him and he’s kept the party going in August. He is locked in at the plate. I’d like to see more Bohms out of him but he does seem to be on his way to a new career high.

Julio Rodriguez – Don’t love him in points leagues so it’s only right that I give him some love when the points start to pile up. Keep batting .360 and he might just win me over.

Sal Frelick – The sample size is small (only 50 at bats) but early returns have been encouraging with 3 home runs and 4 doubles. The future is bright and he has the makings of a points league star with his ability to hit for contact, take a walk, and not strikeout. Well worth an add if you’re in need of some late season juice. Actually, with his profile, he’s basically a must-add.

Jake Burger – If you can stomach the sub .220 average and excessive strikeouts he does have nice power. He could be a gourmet Burger if your league doesn’t punish strikeouts harshly. On the flip side, if your league does deduct points he’s more like the gas station kind. Sometimes good sometimes… well, you get the idea.

Michael Massey – Preseason hype quickly turned to regular season disappointment as he has only hit .220ish. Sadly that hasn’t really changed in the second half but he has started launching more home runs. I am cautiously optimistic he can make an impact down the stretch.

As always, find me here for all your fantasy needs.
