I went as fast as I could this winter. Faster, sometimes. Last year, I completed the top ten lists when Razzball published the Rangers on February 7. This year, Razzball the Rangers’ list went live on January 22. No trick to it, really, just grinding it out, learning on my own in the fresh powder of rankings season. One of the true joys of this gig is having a reason to watch six-month-old minor league baseball games when it’s below zero around here.

1. SS Leodalis De Vries | 18 | A | 2027
Considered by some scouts to be the best international amateur prospect in a decade, De Vries is a 6’0” 183 lb switch hitter who is currently standing on business in the Arizona Fall League against much older players. That’s nothing new to De Vries, who slashed .231/.361/.441 with 11 home runs and 13 steals in 75 Low-A games this season despite an ice cold start after skipping several levels. Over his final 36 games, his line was .288/.407/.582 with ten home runs and eight steals, putting him on a trajectory toward the top of your prospect lists.

1. Red Sox OF Kristian Campbell | 22 | AAA
He’s only been in Triple-A for eight games, but Campbell is slashing .303/.410/.606 with three home runs, two steals, five strikeouts and six walks. On defense, he’s played third base, shortstop and center field in those eight games. He played second base and both corner outfield spots in other stops along the way. The Red Sox are three games out of the final wild card spot, and here they’ve got this lightning-hot hitter who can play all over the field. Nick Sogard is playing second base in Boston and has a 47 wRC+ through 14 games. Might as well see if Campbell can do better than that. Should also note here that Trevor Story began a rehab assignment Friday night, but I’d take Campbell over Story in a heartbeat if I were captaining a playoff push.

1. Nationals OF Dylan Crews | 22 | AAA
His last ten games have been arguably his best of the season: .300/.383/.600 with three home runs, two steals and a 10.6 percent strikeout rate. Small sample goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway and then say the Nats have had Crews on the escalator all season and will reportedly make room for him sooner than later. That’s what has him in the top spot, for what it’s Werth: the likelihood of a call-up turned out to be more valuable than usual in the construction of this list. Lots of uncertainty in the stash game this time of year.
1. Rays 3B Junior Caminero | 20 | IL
Strained his quad in late May and was expected to miss four-to-six weeks. Tampa is 4.5 games out of the final wild card spot as of Saturday morning and already sold Aaron Civale, but that was about opening a spot for Baz as much as anything else.

Word on the street is Wood will be promoted to debut Monday at home against the Mets on ESPN. He went 3-for-5 with a walk and a double on Friday night. I’m going to leave him here and take the list to 11 just to cover all the bases.
