When I think of boring players in fantasy baseball, I think of guys who are AL or NL-only roster fillers. Guys who get at-bats, but very little in the counting stats department. Guys with much more value in real baseball than in the fantasy realm. For me, when it comes to guys like that, in the past, Angel Martinez immediately sprang to mind.
He played in 139 games in 2025 and hit .224 in 484 plate appearances with eleven home runs and eight stolen bases. He scored 56 runs and drove in 45.
Pretty boring stuff. Is there a higher ceiling available than what he’s shown so far and in the minors? I’m gonna go with maybe, but he may have some untapped stolen base upside. His sprint speed is an above-average 27.7 Ft/sec, and he’s 15 for 18 on stolen bases in the majors. He already has swiped four bases in 2026 and is hitting first or second in the Guardians lineup against left-handed pitchers and is also playing every day against righties
Am I jumping for SAGNOF joy? Meh. That being said, he’s only 24 years old and if I’m in a daily league where I need an outfielder and want to find a guy who has a chance to steal some bases you can do worse than Angel Martinez.
Here’s this week’s Stolen Bases Leaderboard

Got some prime Speed Dial and SAGNOF targets on here like Carson Benge, Luisangel Acuna, David Hamilton, and Jose Caballero. Not a one of them, however, is hitting above the .200 mark.
The Speed Dials
We only had one live prediction last week as two of the picks weren’t in the lineup, so we start off the season 0 for 1.
Wednesday, April 15th – Marlins Vs Braves
Otto Lopez – Lopez is fast with a sprint speed of 28.5 Ft/Sec. He has stolen 37 bases across the past 2+ seasons and been caught 11 times. He’ll face Bryce Elder on Wednesday, who has done well to keep runners off base up to this point in the season and is rocking a 1.02 ERA. It’s a good thing too, as he allows .127 SB/IP and an 86.7% success rate. Drake Baldwin and Jonah Heim land 51st and 52nd out of 64 qualified catchers in cutting down runners, so they won’t help Elder keep Lopez and the other Marlins close.
Thursday, April 16th – Mariners vs Padres
Cole Young – I don’t really understand how arm injuries make you stop stealing bases, but that’s apparently what happened with Young, a 22-year-old former first-round pick. He stole 22 bases at Low and High-A ball in 2023 and 23 bases at AA in 2024. Since injuring his arm at the start of 2025, he has stolen just 5 bases. Sprint speed isn’t elite at 27.7 Ft/Sec, but it isn’t bad either. At some point, he will start running again, and maybe that will be Thursday facing Walker Buehler. The former Dodger turned Padre allows .154 SB/IP and allows and 88.6% success rate. Not sure who will catch Buehler, but if it is Luis Campusano, like it was his last two starts, he was a bottom five worst catchers in the league at throwing out runners in his last extended action in 2024.
Only going two days deep this week. There’s a lot of TBD on the starting pitcher lists for Friday and Saturday, and nothing confirmed is really jumping out at me. I’ll be gone next week, so tune in again in two weeks, and we should have a solid month’s worth of data to really get things going on the SAGNOF front.
As always, if you’re looking for anything further out for next week, where we don’t have exact pitching match-ups, hit me up here or on Twitter @TheGreatKnoche
HI Great Knock,
One of the manages has Pivalta who is going on the IL list.
I was thinking of offering Gore for Austin Riley (my current 3B is Matt Chapman). You advice on trades over the years has helped me to all my top fantasy finishes.
1, Would you make that offer of Gore for Riley?
2, If yes, do I need to add Grant Holmes or just go with Gore?
3, Be patient
Another trade option is to
4.Would you offer Jackson Merrill for Walker?
5.Would you offer Gore for Machado (as a reminder, Chapman is my current 3B)
6.Again, I could throw in Holmes as well as Gore to get Machado. Thoughts?
7.or Gore plus Holmes plus Merrill to get Machado and Walker,
Thoughts?
Thanks!!!
7 pack of questions!
Thank you so much!!
