On August 16th, 2023 Lars Nootbaar suffered a catastrophic event. Much like the woman who accidentally shoots the man plunging to his death outside her apartment window at the beginning of Paul Thomas Anderson’s masterpiece Magnolia, Nootbaar harmed himself and countless others when he fouled a ball off the area of his body consisting of […]

Weekly Razzball news delivered straight to your inbox.
What is up party people? The weeks keep flying by and the hits keep on coming. Some are better than others. Tommy Pham – When he’s not getting into a screaming match with fans he’s actually been hitting the ball pretty well. That’s now 13 straight games with a hit for him, very impressive. There’s also a sprinkling of power and speed mixed in. At the risk of getting slapped, let’s call this what it is: just a hot streak. Call me biased but I’d rather have Joc Pederson.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Don’t look now but the fantasy baseball playoffs are just around the corner. Your trade deadline has likely passed and you have about a week or two left to get into that coveted playoff position in head-to-head league. This week’s list is focused on some players who miiiiiight just be available in your standard 12-team […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Mike Couillard and Jeremy Brewer have launched a pod, Cards & Categories, to discuss baseball from card collecting and fantasy angles! In our seventh episode, we open with discussion on the White Sox front office shake up and Julio being Julio. We then have a mock fantasy draft for the first round of 2024 (15:01) followed by picking our personal […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Someone who liked Friday Night Lights but can’t properly recall their favorite character says, “I’m a Cole Ragans fan.” Well, me too! Ragans learned an all-important lesson: If you don’t let runners on, they can’t trickle down into runs. There’s no crack of the bat epidemic following this Ragans around! Cole R. sinks the A’s! Wait, that’s a pun about home appliances not the late-President. Ragans supplies “retire the side” economics! Better! So, Cole Ragans (6 IP, 0 ER, 2 hits, zero walks, 11 Ks, ERA at 3.66) threw another great start yesterday. Easy matchup, but he’s been a revelation. He’s why you don’t pay for starters ever, in redraft or dynasty. They come out of nowhere or the good ones just aren’t that good. He’s added four miles per hour (FOUR!) on his fastball, and added a slider that has a .155 xBAA or .208 actual. He already had a change that no one could hit. He now has four pitches, and three great ones (the cutter is iffy). This Ragans should get you aroused without sitting on your lap calling you Mr. T. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Please, blog, may I have some more?We saw promotions aplenty this week across baseball, and most should be relevant even in shallow mixed leagues.
Cardinals SS Masyn Winn is hitting .214 through four games, but it’s just nice to see him with the big club. Even with every sign pointing to him as the opening day shortstop next season, I’d been worried about the team looking for veteran options over the offseason. They still might, I guess, if Winn struggles, but if he holds his own, he’ll rubber stamp that job.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Five weeks left. I’m back in my day job, and writing now to find some guys who are diamonds that you might think are coal, or at the least cubic zirconia. Season stats have somewhat crystalized, to continue with the rock theme. There are, however, some gems to mine who can help if you look […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Hey, Razzball stolen base enthusiasts! It’s time for another Wednesday edition of SAGNOF with your favorite roto-pops, MarmosDad. In this week’s profile, I decided to do a bit of an ‘under the hood’ dive on a spicy new middle infielder that a lot of us fantasy players were not tracking for a promotion. For reasons […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Yesterday, Wander Franco was placed on administrative leave until further notice as MLB continues its ongoing investigation. So, what does this mean? It means he should step into a rocket, aim it at the sun, and we should press “launch.” He could come back in September or not at all. My guess is he’s at least done for this season. Hoping his name is cleared and he returns, because, in that scenario, no children were harmed. Reading the tea leaves, it does not feel like that scenario is the most likely one. It feels like Wander’s not coming back any time soon, if ever again, as the Rays took down all signs of him from around their park. That’s right, the Rays ‘Poochie died on the way back to his home planet’d him. Because the Rays have a never-ending supply of top prospects, the turnstile, uh, turned and entered Osleivis Basabe going 2-for-5, 2 runs, 4 RBIs and his 1st homer. I can spell just about every name without blinking. Put me in an MLB spelling bee and watch me walk away victorious. With that said, I might have to make an auto-fill for the name Osleivis Basabe. If you can get through Osleivis, then you have to fight the urge to write Baseball. He now should have everyday playing time and I’m interested in seeing what he can do. When he came up, there was talk Osleivis could be a Luis Arraez with speed. Call him Luis ThesceneinBoogieNightswithfirecrackers. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Please, blog, may I have some more?Sorry, I missed everyone with no article last week. Had some technical difficulties over here at Razzball, and I forgot to save my DFS draft. It didn’t cash so I guess from that aspect it turned out okay. We’re about 3/4 of the way through the season now, so about 7 weeks left to make […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Grey and B_Don discuss some of the late season call-ups that are getting an opportunity even before the September roster expansion. We start in Cincinnati with Noelvi Marte’s call-up. Then, we move on to the Cardinals call-up of Masyn Winn. The Giants made a few different moves by bringing up Kyle Harrison, Luis Matos, and […]
