This was the smoothest and fastest the Razzball Commenter Leagues have filled in some time. Thank you everyone for getting in early and often! Only five drafts remain at this point with the Perts league drafting tonight and several other legacy leagues waiting until the last possible moment to draft. Two leagues drafted Monday night, […]

Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts are indeed on the Dodgers. Whether Ohtani placed any bets on the Dodgers, baseball, or any sporting event remains to be seen. If I’m giving my opinion, which I am, I believe he is at least somewhat guilty. At a minimum, there is a money trail from his account to […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Grey and B_Don are back for this week’s episode of the Razzball Fantasy Baseball Podcast. The guys start talking about Shohei Ohtani and everything going on around him right now. What do we think about his new teammate, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, first outing struggles? The duo don’t agree on how the players in the Korean games […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?I’m a big fan of the everyman. I consider myself the everyman. I’m every man’s everyman. A pioneer of normcore. Track pants and a blinking light on my car’s dashboard that either means my seatbelt isn’t on or I need oil. That is me. What better way to elevate the Everyman Culture than to take part in a tourney where no one is smarter than anyone else. Enter the RazzSlam, a Best Ball tourney.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Happy Monday, Razzball faithful! The day has arrived. It’s time to dive headfirst into the Top 100 Starting Pitchers version of ‘The Bog of Eternal Stench’. Following our “Next 100” starting pitchers from a couple of weeks ago is tough. If you thought there were some stinkers in SP101-200, you can bet more than a […]
Please, blog, may I have some more? You’ve probably drafted by now, and you’ve got one or two or twenty teams. Each of the teams are as beautiful as the last, even the draft where you took Gerrit Cole in the first round followed by Elly de la Cruz in the second round.
I can’t believe you spent $1800 on that team either, but here we are.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Howdy y’all. Not much has changed in the past couple of weeks since I released initial rankings, so I did my best to recap tidbits from the back end of spring training that could impact early season waiver claims. If there’s anything pressing that I missed, let me know in the comments! Matt McLain […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Jackson Holliday didn’t make the O’s Opening Day roster, because he has to work on how he carries himself around the bases after a home run. A bit too upright! Can’t say I’m surprised. Honestly, I’m not at all.
Please, blog, may I have some more?We have officially kicked off the 2024 fantasy baseball season with baseball in Seoul South Korea. The Dodgers and Padres socked it out to start the season and reaffirmed this column’s decision to place Mookie Betts as the best non-Acuna bat for 2024. Now that we have had an early glimpse of regular season baseball, we are only a few days away from kicking off the season for everybody else. For us here at Razzball, we wind down our coverage for the preseason and take the opportunity to unveil the next 20 spots of our top 100 hitters for the 2024 fantasy baseball season. Without further ado, let’s give it another go for fantasy owners!
Please, blog, may I have some more? The Orioles did their thing week, demoting SS Jackson Holliday and 3B Coby Mayo despite both belonging to what might be Baltimore’s best opening day lineup. I got a kick out of a recent article claiming the Orioles didn’t get where they are by tanking. I like the project, as a position-statement-type writing assignment. Tough side to support. I mean sure they Rule 5 drafted Anthony Santander and played him every day until he was functional. Sure they landed Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson and Kyle Bradish via strategic quitting. They also did other stuff, but that doesn’t change the fact that they lost as badly as possible for several years to get to where they are now. They did smart stuff, for sure, but I don’t know why it’s bad to call this reality by its name.
Please, blog, may I have some more? When the Los Angeles Angels drafted shortstop Zach Neto in 2022 with the 13th overall pick, some people may have thought it was a nice story of a kid being drafted out of Campbell University – a school that is not exactly known for sending players to the majors.
But Neto is not just a nice story – and no team would waste a first-round pick on a nice story. Neto was a star for the Camels, finishing his three-year career with a .403/.500/.751 slash line with 27 homers, 108 RBI and 31 steals in 100 games and 475 plate appearances and helping lead the team to the NCAA tournament in 2021 and 2022.
Little did people know, however, that within a year of being drafted, Neto would be playing shortstop for the Angels.
The Fast Track
After being drafted and signing with the Angels, Neto was assigned to High-A Tri-City, where he played in a total of seven games before moving up to Double-A Rocket City, where he slashed .320/.382/.492 with four home runs, 23 RBI and four steals. Neto started the 2023 season at Rocket City but was there for only seven games as he slashed .444/.559/.815 with three home runs and 10 RBI.
Neto didn’t even have time to find a place to sleep while at Triple-A Salt Lake City as his stint there lasted only four games before he was recalled to the majors by the Angels. Less than a year after the draft, he was starting for the Angels after entering the season ranked as the 53rd best prospect by Baseball America, 89 by MLB.com and 47th by Baseball Prospectus
