Goodness gracious, just when we thought the injuries would slow to a trickle, the epidemic shifted from elbows (mostly, but not fully) to ribs. Once again, Keelin has you covered on all those injury updates as our Saturday Crew powers unite. Rosters across the landscape or ripped to shreds just like all those obliques out […]

Welcome back, friends, to another week of Up-and-Coming Dynasty Players. Last week I talked about Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio. I’m liking Milwaukee so much that I have decided to stick with the Brewers and talk about second baseman Brice Turang.
Selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2018 draft out of high school, Turang was playing in Triple-A by 2021 at the age of 21 as the club aggressively pushed him through the system. A left-handed hitter, Turang spent all of the 2022 season at Triple-A Nashville, slashing .286/.360/.412 with 13 homers, 78 RBI and 34 steals while only being caught stealing twice. The homers and RBI were career highs.
Turang started the 2023 season back at Nashville but was there for only 15 games before the Brewers recalled him. He spent the rest of the season with Milwaukee, appearing in 137 games and slashing a not-so-thrilling .218/.285/.300. Those are not the numbers of a player who is an up-and-coming dynasty player.
But I think he is a player to target. Let’s examine why.
Please, blog, may I have some more? The NFL Draft was not the only spectacle taking place in Detroit this weekend, Seth Lugo was putting on his own dazzling performance at Comerica Park pitching seven strong shut out innings allowing just five base runners (three hits) and striking out nine Tigers for his fourth win of the year. And now the Atlanta […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?I’ll give it to Scott Boras: he’s a bold mf’er. Perhaps his boldness has resulted in some hubris in the case of Blake Snell. Snell, who notably did not attend spring training while holding out for a bigger contract, has had a rough season so far. In 11.2 IP, Snell has an 11.57 ERA with […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Imagine you’re in a deli waiting for a pastrami on rye. Not just any pastrami on rye, but the best pastrami on rye. Like all delis, you have to take a number. So, you pull a number and it’s number two. Not bad! You only have to wait one person! You can do that! So, […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Okay, this injury thing is getting ridiculous. It was bad enough when it was just the pitchers and an occasional hitter, but now I have teams where I have two or three of my most valuable offensive players who’ve just disappeared to the IL overnight. I never like to think about quitting on a fantasy […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Sing it with me: “War, huh, yeahWhat is it good for?Absolutely nothing, uhhWar, huh, yeahWhat is it good for?Absolutely nothingSay it again, y’allWar, huh (good God)What is it good for?Absolutely nothing, listen to me, oh” We all know the tune and now you’ll be singing it in your head for the next hour or […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?13 games is a (good) racket! I am mindful of the fact that the math can be done to analyze the odds of one of 13 games producing 10+ runs, but I also know I do not want to attempt that math. I will build lineups as if one or more games will be “had […]
Please, blog, may I have some more? So, here’s where I give you the grain of salt. The White Sux suck. Their team name is White Sux. No worse sucking than a team named Sux. The heart of their lineup is Mendick/Sheets, which is as exciting as the Orthodox Jewish sex image it elicits. Their team batting average is .189! They are […]
Please, blog, may I have some more? The Daulton Varsho Trilogy has been an entertaining one, full of ups and downs, laughter and grief, expectations and disappointments, birth, death, and resurrection. He made his MLB debut in 2020, showed enticing promise in 2021 with 11 home runs and six stolen bases in 315 plate appearances, resulting in a top 100 ADP heading […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Today we reflect on a form of blurb elusive to those not steely of eyes, or dan of mind. Jorge Luis Borges once contended that every story ever written is part of the 1,001 Nights, a beautiful idea that places the timeless prose of Faulkner or Wolff on the same pedestal as the Olive Garden advertising copy, “When you’re here, you’re family.” One might not believe a fantasy baseball blurb worthy of said pedestal, but if one looks carefully, stories of passion emerge from the morass. On Wednesday evening, the following blurb appeared on Rotoworld:
Please, blog, may I have some more? What is up party people? We mostly focus on the positive, but not everyone has gotten off to a rockin start. Take, for example, Jordan Walker. You know him well as Razzball favorite, destined for fantasy stardom. To put it bluntly, the results have not been that of a fantasy star and obviously the Red Birds feel the same way since they just sent him down to AAA. So far the points just haven’t been there and with a .164 batting average this season it’s not difficult to see why. Unfortunately the news doesn’t get much better when you look beyond that to his 18 strikeouts and only 6 walks. Yeah, that’s not very good. At least he is showing strong exit velocity, but that’s about it. He’s got roughly a full season in the majors, give or take a handful of games, but the power we expected hasn’t really manifested yet, with only 16 for his career. While disappointing, it is also not entirely unexpected. It’s not uncommon for guys to take a beat to grow into their power and Walker is still pretty young, at only 22. That means he still has time. Time to be better, time to remind us all of that big time power. I will admit that I am concerned but I’m not ready to panic. All the tools are still there and I want (need) to believe that he will figure it out. I hope that it will be merely a short stint to get right and he will be back to terrorize major league pitching but he really did look lost out there so who knows it will take for him to earn another shot, especially after last season’s struggles. Outside of deep leagues, I just don’t think you can afford to hold onto him.
