I remember fondly my pickling phase of years ago when I went ahead and pickled just about everything. Pickled eggs, pickled garlic, pickled…pickles. Fast forward 3 years and all those jars are still sitting on the shelf and I’m fearful of any of them breaking a seal and releasing their rancid smell on the house. To be fair, I did eat the pickles, but I was definitely fearful of the eggs. That transitions seamlessly to my favorite pitcher of the night, Griffin Canning ($6,800). Canning gets to face the Royals at home tonight and I’m lining my shelves and praying to not get a stinker. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster to start Canning’s major league career with 3 runs in 4 innings, 2 runs in 5 innings and 4 runs and 4 walks in 4 innings. One thing has remained constant though and that is the strikeouts (6,7,6). That works out to about 12 K/9. Yum! That’s the equivalent of some fine homemade dills. As long as we can avoid the spoiled pickled eggs, we’ll be good.

Jose Berrios, SP: $10,400 – Your top cash game pitcher of the night gets a tough draw in Seattle, but I’m so sold on this guy I don’t even care. Plus, Seattle is second in the league in strikeouts.
Jon Lester, SP: $9,300 – I’ll be honest, I’m playing either Canning or Berrios tonight, but if you want a to take a shot with Lester, I’m cool with that. The Nats have been pretty pathetic. Granted, they do get Trea Turner back, but still, this offense is meh with a side of blah. They are striking out the fourth most in the league and Lester has been fire. The 1.16 ERA won’t last but the 2.72 FIP isn’t too shabby either. Maybe I just talked myself into a third option tonight.
Walker Buehler, SP: $10,200 – I’m focusing mainly on the main slate but if you do play the early slate, I’m all over Buehler. Well, I’m all over anyone playing the Reds really, but still.
Willians Astudillo, C/1B: $2,800 – I am very likely to be picking on Wade LeBlanc today. Don’t get me wrong, I loved him in Friends, but today is about me making money. Astudillo could be leading off and for this price would set your lineup apart from the field.
Freddie Freeman, 1B: $4,200 – Freddie is a popular option anytime he’s facing a righty, but be warned; Chase Anderson actually has reverse splits. That might be reason to fade.
Mitch Moreland, 1B: $3,600 – Alright, Corbin Martin looked good in start #1, but now he’s on the road and in Fenway Park. I’ll take the Sawx in this one.
Keston Hiura, 2B: $2,300 – Cheap rookie alert. All he’s done is hit upon arrival so get those cheap points while you can!
Jonathan Schoop, 2B: $2,700 – More Wade LeBlanc dog piling.
Anthony Rendon, 3B: $4,000 – Rendon has been ice cold until he faced Wilmer Font. Font cures all ailments. He could keep things going today because he isn’t this bad.
Evan Longoria, 3B: $2,700 – I tried to get a Giant in here to pick on Zack Godley, but that ain’t easy. The Giants are plain old bad, but you can save a couple bucks at 3B with Longo.
Trea Turner, SS: $4,200 – He’s baaaaaack!
Andrelton Simmons, SS: $2,800 – Andrelton can score you points in many different ways, he gets hits, hits the occasional homer and swipes the occasional bag. Jakob Junis does nothing for me so I’ll look to include Angels where I can. Andrelton is way too cheap.
Shohei Ohtani, OF: $3,600 – Speaking of Angels, Ohtani is a bit more pricey but a La Stella, Ohtani, Trout, Simmons stack sounds pretty good to me paired up with Canning.
Byron Buxton, OF: $3,400 – Dare I say hot schomtato? Combine that with Wade LeBlanc and even I can stomach rostering Buxton who is officially dead to me in redraft leagues.
Austin Riley, OF: $3,000 – Remember those aforementioned reverse splits for Chase Anderson? Well, Riley is a righty with power. As a bonus, he’s reasonably priced still.
Josh Reddick, OF: $2,800 – Reddick revenge game! That sounds like something that happens after a frat party.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
We have what looks to be lovely weather for baseball tonight. If you’re in on the early slate, keep an eye on STL@TEX as they could have some showers but it should clear out eventually.
Doing Lines In Vegas
Believe it or not but Griffin Canning and the Angels are the biggest favorite on the night. Now I feel even better about my Canning call. Houston @ Boston has the highest over/under of the night at 11 runs. Most of these guys will be pricey, but squeeze them in where you can.
