FanDuel: Friday the 13th Fun

We have a very spooky 14-game slate for Friday the 13th on FanDuel. Not only is it Friday the 13th, but it’s also a full moon, so expect some bizarre baseball tonight. Stack up those Marlins and fade Max Scherzer for Dylan Covey….okay, just kidding, don’t do that. I’m not going to shock you with my favorite cash game pitcher tonight, as I’ll be going with Gerrit Cole ($12,000). Cole has been scary-good this year, striking out a league-high 39.4% of batters. Gerrit Cole faces the Royals, who have put up an 81 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers since the beginning of August. Since I’m paying all the way up for my pitcher, I’ll try and include some extra value plays once we get to today’s hitters. Let’s take a look at the rest of today’s slate.

FanDuel: Homer, Please Don’t Say DOH!

Welcome to September baseball, where I get new call ups mixed up with running back handcuffs. FanDuel has us set up with a 15-game slate to start the weekend. There are three things that are certain in life: death, taxes, and the Tigers being terrible against right-handed pitching. Since the All-Star Break, the Tigers are tied for the second-worst wRC+ against righties, while striking out at the highest clip (28.5%). The Tigers face Homer Bailey ($8,200), who has been excellent over his last eight starts, outside of a disastrous start against the Cubs. In fact, over his last four starts, Bailey has a 2.25 ERA in 24.1 innings, while striking out 27 batters. I’m praying to the fantasy gods that Homer can keep that success rolling today. Let’s take a look at the rest of today’s slate.

FanDuel: Lamet(ing) Missing Out On Dinelson

Happy Friday everyone! We have a 14-game slate on FanDuel to start the weekend. During draft season of 2018, I had a pitching starved dynasty team where I made Dinelson Lamet ($8,200) one of my first round pick. Four days later, I lost Lamet to TJS. This year an owner who’s clearly smarter than me took a shot on Lamet in the 20th round, as the 541st player rostered. That minimal risk is now paying dividends as Lamet has returned to his pre-TJS self, with some slight improvements. Lamet has bumped up his swinging strike rate and strikeout rate, while lowering his walk rate and home run rate. Today, Dinelson Lamet gets his cushiest matchup since his return in Oracle Park against the Giants. For the season, the Giants have put up a 86 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers, however, that number drops to 68 when you factor in only games they’ve played at home. FanDuel: Bunches Of Berrios

Welcome to the start of the weekend DFSers! We have a 13-game slate on FanDuel this Friday. The Twins send their ace, Jose Berrios ($8,800), to the mound where he gets one of the best matchups a pitcher could ask for in the Tigers. In the second half, the Tigers have just a 70 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, which is good for 28th best in the league. They also have the highest strikeout rate against righties at 28.2%. Jose Berrios has always had better numbers at home, and this year is more of the same (3.27 ERA vs. 3.45). Berrios should have no problem cruising through the declawed Tigers. My only worry with this pick is at this price, Berrios is likely to be heavily owned. Let’s take a look at the rest of FanDuel’s slate to see if we can find a decent pivot.

FanDuel: Rub Some Morton Salt In The Wound

Welcome to the Friday FanDuel writeup! We’re starting the weekend off with a full 15-game slate and there’s one pitcher that stands about the rest for me – Charlie Morton ($11,300). Somewhere out there Kate Upton’s reading this calling Morton a fake-stud – ala when she called Rick Porcello a fake-Cy Young – but hear me out, Kate. It really seems unfair (especially to a Phillies fan who only got four starts of studly Morton in 2016) that Charlie’s having a career-best season in terms of strikeout rate (30.5%) and walk rate (7.1%). The icing on the cake for Morton is the matchup against the Tigers. For the year, the Tigers have the second-worst wOBA against right-handed pitchers and the third-highest strikeout rate at 26.1%. Let’s take a look at the rest of today’s slate.

FanDuel: Now Watch Me Yuuuuuuuuuuu (Crank Dat Darvish Boy)

You know we’re getting wild when I’m starting your weekend off with some Soulja Boy. We have a 14-game slate on FanDuel, so sit back and “watch me crank it, watch me roll” through the options today. Our Superman today is Yu Darvish ($9,400), who has had quite the Jekyll and Hyde season. In 18 starts to begin the season, Darvish threw 97 innings of 5.01 ERA baseball, with a 2.26 K/BB%. However, in five starts since July 12th, he’s gone 29 innings while allowing a 2.17 ERA and a 19.0 K/BB%. That’s 38 strikeouts versus just two walks. To be fair, the change started earlier, as noted by Alex Chamberlain’s fantastic piece here. Yuuuuuuuuu (sorry, I’m pot committed at this point) faces the Reds today, who’s projected starting lineup has a 25.4% strikeout rate and just a .308 wOBA against right-handed pitching. Now “watch me crank dat Robocop” as we take a look at the rest of today’s slate.

FanDuel: Joey Goes Home To His Happy Place

What’s up, everybody? The weekend is nearly upon us and so it’s time to take a look at our 14-game FanDuel slate for Friday. Baseball’s a really weird sport. For example, just yesterday the Rockies put up eight runs in a game that Max Scherzer started with no Nolan Arenado in the lineup. This is after putting up two runs in a game that Erick Fedde started. Today, we have a pitcher on the slate that has a 6.48 ERA in 41.2 innings on the road versus a 2.83 ERA in 63.2 innings at home. Apparently, Joey Lucchesi ($7,100) loves pitching in Petco Park, and why wouldn’t he? Petco Park is ranked 28th in the league in park factors in the league for runs scored. Not only does Lucchesi get back to his happy place, but he gets a happy matchup against the Giants. For the year, the Giants are dead last in wRC+ against left-handed pitching on the road, and have the seventh-highest strikeout rate at 26.3%. If I’m looking to pay up for some bats, I’ll lock Joey Lucchesi in as my starting pitcher. Let’s take a look at the rest of the FanDuel slate.

FanDuel: Then I Saw Her Ace, Now I’m A Belieber

What’s up DFSers. It’s Friday and I’m on vacation. You know what that means? I’ve been day drinking and you get to deal with my silly ramblings about baseball. We have a 14-game slate on FanDuel and this slate is chock full of pitching. We get Justin Verlander, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Jacob deGrom all in the same price range, along with my personal favorite Shane Bieber ($10,800). Bieber has been phenomenal this year. He’s kept his walk rate down at 5.1%, while increasing his strikeout rate seven ticks to 31.6%. For the season, he has the fourth best SIERA among qualified starting pitchers, behind Gerrit Cole, Max Scherzer, and Chris Sale. Shane Bieber faces the Royals, who have the 26th best wOBA against right-handed pitchers over the last two months. Great matchup and a great pitcher? Count me in. For the record, if you’re paying up and want to go to one of the other aces, by all means. Let’s take a look at the rest of FanDuel’s slate.

FanDuel: Where Have All The Aces Gone?

Welcome back baseball, how I missed ye. FanDuel has us set up for a 13-game slate for our first full day back. Overall, the pitchers on this slate are hot garbage, or have brutal matchups. My favorite pitcher on today’s slate is Domingo German ($8,600). German had one start back since coming off the IL before the All-Star Break in which he went six innings, allowing one run and struck out six. He threw 80 pitches in that outing and looked at back to the top of his game. Today, he faces the Blue Jays, who have an 85 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, which ranks 24th in the league. German’s price combined with his upside makes him my must play arm on tonight’s slate. Let’s take a look at the rest of the FanDuel slate.

FanDuel: Zack Attack Is Back Baby

Not gonna lie to you guys. I started the weekend early. My father-in-law forced (nope) shots on me and we watched fireworks on the forth and, so, of course I’m 100% drunk…….errrrrrr…….ready to talk about FanDuel’s 13-game slate. We’ll start with Zack Greinke ($9,400), who gets a match-up with the Rockies outside of Coors, as the pitcher I’m locking in as my cash pitcher on FanDuel today. Grienke’s been as solid as they come, sporting a 2.90 ERA with a career-best 3.4% walk rate. His opponent, the Rockies, struggles outside of Coors, but I bet you don’t know how bad they struggle. Guess where they rank in wRC+ against right-handed pitching when they’re on the road. DFL – Dead F Last – with a wRC+ of 69 (noice), which pairs nicely with a 26% strikeout rate. Now that you know my favorite pitcher on FanDuel, let’s take a look at the rest of the slate <takes another shot>. Let’s go!

FanDuel: What Can Merrill Do For You?

Welcome back to the weekend DFSers! We have another massive 14-game slate on FanDuel, with everyone playing except for the Yankees and Red Sox, who are shipping off to London. Pitching is a little on the light side today, with Jacob deGrom and his tough match-up with the Braves being the most expensive pitcher on the slate at $11,500. There are some really awesome hitting match-ups today, so I’m more likely to pay down a little at pitcher in order to fit in the big bats. That’s why I’m locking in Merrill Kelly ($8,600) as my starting pitcher. In five starts since a rough start in Coors on May 28th, Kelly has gone 34.1 innings pitched, while allowing just nine runs and striking out 32. More importantly, Merrill Kelly faces the Giants, who have the fourth-worst wRC+ against right-handed pitching for the season. In addition, this game will be played in Oracle Park, giving Kelly a park upgrade as well. Let’s take a look at what paying down at pitcher on FanDuel can get us.

FanDuel: Come Sale Away With Me

Happy Friday everyone! We have a 14-game slate on FanDuel this Friday and I’m not going to lie to you, the pricing is tight today. If I had my way, I’d be rolling out Chris Sale ($12,000), as he has the matchup with the highest upside. Sale’s been absolutely brilliant since April 23rd, sporting a 2.36 SIERA to go with his 41.4% strikeout rate. Sale’s opponent, the Blue Jays have just the 26th best wRC+ against left-handed pitching. The problem is, if we lock in Chris Sale at his super high price, it leaves you with just $2,875 per position to fill out your roster.
