Hisanori Takahashi had a nearly identical line last night as his last start; 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 6 Ks.  A) I’m chalking it up to his histrionic delivery.  All of it.  You baffle people who haven’t seen you when you throw the ball between your legs and shake your tukis afterwards.  B) Did I just say tukis?  Hey, I’m Eli Whiteside!  C) He could continue to baffle people for a good couple of months.  D) He plays in Metco.  E) I can’t believe there was a D let alone an E.  F) A long long way to run.  G) He gets the Padres next.  H) He’s in the NL on a team that can win some games.  Why not own him?  Seriously, grab him now.  I) Am writing this.  J) Buhner.  K)  There’s no K, there’s never a K.  Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Jose Reyes – 2-for-4 and a home run.  Thank you, Lord.

Brandon Morrow – 5 IP, 3 ER, 7 baserunners, 6 Ks.  He’s shown a tendency to tie his owners to the WHIPping post this year, but the Ks have been real nice.

Mike Gonzalez – Had a setback in his rehab.  Oh, no, did he huff glue?  Oh, different rehab.  Trembley said, “Mike is fine with (throwing long toss), and we think if he does that for a week or so, his arm strength will come back to where it was.”  Where it was when he was sucking or where it was when he wasn’t sucking?  Can we get a sucking or no sucking clarification?  I think we’ll be lucky to see Mike Gonzalez save a game before the All-Star Break.  Through no design of the terrific bullpen that is covering for him.

Jacoby Ellsbury – Out with soreness on his side as he underwent a CT scan.  (I actually just had a CT scan on Sunday.  I’m still glowing in the dark from the iodine they shot me up with.)  I know this might be a bitter pill(sbury) to swallow, but I don’t think it’s going to be a great season for Ellsbury.  Getting that Brian Roberts in spring training vibe.  That is all.

Adrian Beltre – 4-for-5, 6 RBIs and 2 Homers.  Wasn’t it just yesterday I asked where his power is?  Boom goes the dynamite!

Mark Buehrle – In the 3rd inning he was ejected for arguing over a balk call, the second one called on him in the game.  Hawk Harrelson said of the ump, “He wrong.”

Carlos Quentin – 0-for-4.  He’s a mess.  I’m done defending him.  But he’s so talented!  Okay, now I’m done.  He could go off for a month or two or he can get injured, but right now all he’s doing is looking lost at the plate.  In most shallow leagues, I think it’s time to deploy the parachute and jump ship, to mix modes of transportation.  Granted, now that I’m officially moving on, CQ will begin to hit.

Bobby Jenks – 1 IP, 3 ER, 6 baserunners.  This was a Kazaam to make Dotel say, “Damn.”  I’d continue to hold Thornton after this smashterpiece.

Derek Holland – Got an inning of relief just to stay loose for his Sunday start.  All’s well in Holland land (stutter much?).

Jeremy Bonderman – 7 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 6 Ks vs. the Mariners.  This was an easy start.  He gets the Indians next.  Again, not too shabby.

Garrett Atkins – Hit his first homer of the year yesterday.  Now Atkins is back to no carbs and weak grounders to short.

Trevor Cahill – 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 3 Ks.  He has 17 Ks to 10 walks in 35 and a third innings this year.  The left mouth says, “Bel…” The right mouth says, “ch.”  Together, “Belch.”

Tommy Hanson – 6 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 4 Ks.  A bounceback of sorts, but against the Marlins I would’ve preferred to see more Ks and less walks (5).

Brian McCann – Left the game with a sore quad.  That’s what she said!  Wait, what?

Bronson Arroyo – 7 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 3 Ks vs. the Pirates.  This season, he’s gotten the Pirates three times, Padres, the no-hitting Cards twice, Indians and Astros.  Yet, he still has a 4.30 ERA.  Though the Reds do get nice matchups in the NL Central.  Actually, everyone gets nice matchups in the NL Central.

Francisco Liriano – 7 IP, 2 ER, 10 baserunners, 7 Ks.  Sonavabench!  Why does he keep getting the Yankees?  Did they switch divisions?  Where’s the peasant Royals?  The I’m-not-making-any-derogatory-comments-about-the-Indians-for-fear-of-coming-off-racist Indians?

Matt Garza – 5 IP, 6 ER, 10 baserunners, 3 Ks.  Like to Control-Alt-Delete this start.  Well, his ERA is still under 3 on the year.  Hoping this was just a blip.

Ben Zobrist – Now has three homers in his last ten games.  I don’t own him anywhere so I hope he goes into oblivion with Crystal Bowersox, but it’s still early enough in the season where he can reach all of his projections.

Roy Oswalt – 8 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 9 Ks.  Never underestimate someone’s motivation to look appealing to get the hell off the Astros.

Tom Gorzelanny – 5 IP, 5 ER, 10 baserunners, 5 Ks.  I was just admiring his K-rate the other day and now he’s probably going to get bumped for Big Z.  Too bad, so sad.

Derrek Lee – Another three hit night as he raised his average 24 points in the last three games.

Jaime Garcia – 6 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 3 Ks and a 1.14 ERA on the year.  He has 24 walks to 45 Ks.  That’s a sign that when his ERA corrects itself, it’s not going to be pretty.

Trevor Hoffman – Threw a scoreless 7th after throwing a scoreless 8th the other day.  By June, he’s going to be starting games.  In all seriousness, the Brewers want Hoffman to be their closer and he’s days away from resuming that role.

Carlos Gonzalez – Broke an 0-for-14 slump and his first homer in 10 days.  Hopefully this is the start again (restart?) of something good.

Seth Smith – Hit two homers yesterday.  I wonder if he would trade one of those homers for a more interesting name.  Say Ubaldo?

Miguel Olivo – 3-for-4 with 2 steals.  Someone probably should’ve thrown over when he was taking an 89 foot lead.

Ubaldo Jimenez – 8 scoreless innings as he moves to 9-1 with a 0.88 ERA and 0.93 WHIP.  After the game, he won the Strasburg rookie card for $16,001, traded it for a Gregg Jefferies rookie card and now the Jefferies rookie card is worth $16,002.

  1. Chomp Samba says:

    Of all the weeks for me to bench both Bob Davidson and Joe West in my fantasy umpiring league! Pick up red-hot Angel Hernandez if he’s still available in your league, FYI.

  2. joe from point pleasant says:

    My current 3b David Freese has a .312 average but hes been the definition of yawnstipating lately.

    Lately Ive been weighing my other options at 3b. Chipper Jones and Jose Lopez are available on the wire and both are getting terrible luck, especially Lopez who has a rediculous .237 babip and 1.8% hr/fb ratio while his LD rate is actually up 1.2% this year.

    You think either are worth giving a shot or should I stay put with Freese?

  3. Bensomi says:

    Love the reference to Hawk Harrelson. Didn’t say that I loved Hawk Harrelson however. Sign the petition… please!!!

  4. dave says:

    Haren’s pitching @ Coors this afternoon. I’d have definitely started him wherever whenever if this was last yr. But this yr Haren’s pitching like it’s already August (post-All-Star break.) Start or sit?

  5. Bensomi says:

    @ joe – Freese is driving in runs and hitting for average. The HRs will come. Through the rest of the season, Freese will out-perform Chipper in most scoring categories and have more at-bats. Lopez is another matter. If you have room, I’d grab him on the cheap for your bench before rolling the dice as an active starter.

  6. Ruah says:

    Best ’speed’ guy for the year? Obviously SBs are important, but the better overall guy:

    Stubbs, Patterson, Venable, Pagan or Torres

  7. JP says:

    Would you rather have Gio or Takahashi in a H2H pts league? I’m thinking Gio will help with Ks but Takahashi could get you wins yet he frightens me and an implosion can’t be far off…

  8. Tony says:

    @dave: i’m in the same boat, can’t decide, he threw WELL there already once this year, 2 runs and 10 K’s, but i play H2H, he could REALLY f me today and i can’t afford a slip up…. i’m probably screwed either way, the dude i’m playing has given up ONLY 6 runs and almost has his 32 innings in…. as of now i’m leaving haren in….. might swap him out right before, grrrrrr HAREN why do you have to be so up and down this yr!

  9. knighttown says:

    Is Contreres still closing? I’ll drop him for that Japanese gentleman you mentioned if he’s not but I really don’t need an 11th starter. I need a Donkey-Corn post!!

  10. Mike says:

    I’d love to see a post comparing Hanley “Operation Shutdown” Ramirez to Cody Ross. Their lines are nearly identical. In my league Ramirez went for $49, Ross, $1.

  11. Jeff says:

    16 team 5×5 roto leaue. In addition to the normal positions we start 4 OF’s and 1 U spot.

    My SS – O. Cab and Furcal
    My OF – McCutchen, Gomes, Bay, Maybin (Bench/DL – Sizemore, Ethier)

    I was offered Adam Jones for Furcal. Do I take it? Not sure I’m believing in A Jones, but he has put together an 11 game hit streak and he has potential to be a good player.

  12. Tony says:

    @Jeff: i’d say adam jones is a much better value than furcal, but then you’re stuck with a plethora of OF’ers and you can only play 4 + a UTL….. once Eithier comes back maybe you can deal one….? id take it.

  13. Awesomus Maximus

    Awesomus Maximus says:

    Markakis is expected to miss Thursday’s game against the Athletics to attend the birth of his second child.

    This is the second player this week I’ve lost to the Paternity List; I can’t catch a break. And since when did these guys start giving a shizz about their families? You wanna’ “be there” when your loved ones need you? Get a job at your local Best Buy. You wanna’ earn more for half a year of playing a game than hot tar roofers earn in a decade? Get your ass to the ballpark!

  14. mikey boy324 says:

    grey should i drop chipper for glaus?..and would you start holland this week in a 12 team h2h league?

  15. Eddy says:

    @Awesomus Maximus:
    Looks to me like ballplayers make GOOD use of the All-Star Break

  16. mets fan says:

    grey should i drop chipper for glaus? and would you start holland this week in a 12 team h2h league?

  17. ThePoonTycoon says:

    @dave: check the numbers, haren has been very unlucky. his xFIP era is like 3.15. sure you can sit him expecting his bad luck to continue, but he’s not pitching poorly and is still the same guy that’s been a top 10 SP for a few years now. the luck will come around. sit your studs and you miss out on a 8IP, 0ER, 10K, 1BB line.

  18. Night Angel says:

    Who do you like more for next week as a two starter?
    Gio, @Bos and vMin
    Bonderman, vCle and @KC
    Takahashi, @SD and vFla

  19. Eddy says:

    It’d be hard to get rid of Jaime because I feel like he’s going on the improbable path Happ lived on for so long last year. It’d be good to sell high, but would suck to be sitting around when he’s on someone else’s team in August telling myself, “It’s all good, that ONE start is still coming!” Not to mention both his FIP and xFIP are below 3.72. Can’t be that bad right?

    And just since you picked on Quentin, I’ll hold off one week, enjoy his 17 homers, then drop him.

  20. Tony says:

    @ThePoonTycoon: we can call it luck or whatever we want, but he’s not pitching the same as previous years. He’s given up 6 HR’s in his past two outtings, he’s obviously up in the zone. I’m gonna run him out there because i drafted him as my ace, i can’t play the sit game with him (h2h), but i’m not feeling great about it…… I hope your 8IP, 0ER, 10K line is true.

  21. ThePoonTycoon says:

    @Eddy: i think the hardest part about selling a guy like garcia is that no one in your league is really gonna be buying high on him. your best bet is to wait until close to the trading deadline, hope he’s still putting out quality starts, and then sell him when a guy is panicked to make a move on a SP. now, any savvy owner is gonna say “i’ll wait, this guy is unproven and bound to have a 5.00 era month in the near future”.

    @Tony: yeah, i mean, perhaps it’s something to worry about, but his GB% is higher than his career rate, so i don’t think that’s the problem. his HR/FB rate is high, his BABIP is high, his LOB% is high, his LD% is DOWN.

    i don’t know, to me everything is just pointing to crappy luck, but like everything the last few years with his 2nd half collapses point to crappy luck more than “tiring out” or whatever. he could easily real off a 4 month run with a 2.00 era starting tonight, because his stuff is still fine (see K rates). it’ll be like a reverse of the last few seasons where the bad luck comes in april/may instead of august/sept.

    i traded for him in one league and already own him in another. he’s probably the last SP left that i’d be highly recommending people try to buy low on. he could easily go on a tear like lester has been on the last month or put together 10 straight starts like ubaldo to start this season.

  22. Bracing myself for the Jaime Town Blues… Damn, I have like 3 pages of Jefferies rooks, that hurt.

  23. Tony says:

    @ThePoonTycoon: ya i can see him ripping off a bunch of good starts, HE NEEDS TOO, but i doubt he had his bad months and this year his second half will be his normal first few months…. I know next year i wont be drafting him. Everyone is keen to his second half slides now and NO ONE is wanting him…. especially when he’s crappy in the 1st half!

  24. @ThePoonTycoon: I’m in your camp on Haren. He’s too good (still) for his luck to not improve. I made an oppening offer of Aaron Hill and a choice of Slowey, Garcia, Correia, Francis or Medlen for Snake Man Dan.

  25. ThePoonTycoon says:

    @Tony: well, i guess i see a lot of value since it appears he puts the same skills out there the whole season, for whatever reason he just has had bad luck in august and september recently. i’m a big believer that in baseball, things even out over the year, and i’ve been near last place at the all-star break, fended off low-ball offers for underperforming guys, and then made a 2nd half surge to win the league when all these guys finally see their BABIPs and whatnots start to even out. velocity and Ks and BBs aren’t a problem with haren, so i expect his ERA to end up at least in the 3.30-3.50 range by the end of the year.

  26. Timequake says:

    Latos or Wells?

    And Soto, Buck, or Napoli?

  27. ThePoonTycoon says:

    @3FingersBrown: you’ll probably need to pair him with a bit better hitter, but you probably could get a frustrated owner to trade haren for garcia + a decent mid-tier hitter, especially if the owner needed a bat at that position.

  28. Tony says:

    @ThePoonTycoon: that is true, guys dont just go from a .300 hitter to a .220 hitter, it evens out and that means a month or two of batting .380….. same thing with pitching…… i really dont have too much choice, i was shopping him a couple weeks ago, NO LUCK, i’m riding the dan haren train down in a blaze of glory this year, and hey if it keeps getting worse i’ll bench him and say screw it…..

    it can’t get worse can it? HAHA

  29. ThePoonTycoon says:

    @Timequake: latos, napoli

    nothing wrong with wells though, and soto >>>>>>> buck

  30. sean says:

    @Awesomus Maximus: Agreed. Having Miggy out is killing me though the stats are better this year than his boozing and wifebeating run in September last season.

    Seriously though, isn’t playing in the show all about leaving your wife and three kids at home while you get paid millions to be out on the road with a new girl in every city?

  31. Eddie says:

    I’m getting antsy with Masterson. He has an ERA over 6, and an xFIP below 4. Do I hang on tight? It’s a 16 team keeper format so good pitching is not easily found on waivers.

  32. Johnnie LeMaster says:

    Which side would y’all want?
    Miggy for Prince + (Hanson or Liriano)

  33. Euroalien says:

    Is Slowey & Hamilton to much to offer for Lincecum? Guy wants HRs and an Avg SP…… and I need K’s…… which side would you want?

  34. Donnie Baseball says:

    Grey and everybody else, Pence or Soria?

    Also, I can’t believe Bonderman. I was expecting to look up his whip and see 1.4 or 1.5. But 1.22. Maybe he has his shizz together.

    And I would try and move Hanson as fast as I could. His arm is eventually going to give out on him from last year.

  35. ThePoonTycoon says:

    @Euroalien: in my leagues that probably wouldn’t be enough for lincecum, so if you can get him to accept, do it.

  36. Tony says:

    @Johnnie LeMaster: the prince/liriano side probably, or hanson…. prince is gonna come on strong at some point soon.

  37. Tony says:

    @Euroalien: ya i dont think its enuff either.

  38. Rico says:

    Mark me down as owning Quentin in all leagues, with regret. His BABIP is .220, but it’s only .250 for his career (about 1600 PAs). I think he’s just slow and hits a lower LD% than most (16%). I think if I had to project him for the next few years I’d say .250-22hr. That sort of sucks in the OF. It’s a shame too because he walks a lot, has a huge contact rate at 85%, and has power, it just doesn’t seem to result in good stats.

    I’m doing to dump him for Delmon, good article about him at fangraphs saying that lucky adjusted he’d be .304/.355/.472 for this season. Not K’ing, chipping in some power and a couple steals. He’s a #1 overall pick and is just 24.

  39. Slam says:

    Is Leblanc worth starting at home against St. Louis tonight?

    or is he going to get shelled again

  40. Suck My Wieters says:

    Grey and everyone else,

    Which side do you like better?

  41. ThePoonTycoon says:

    @Suck My Wieters: jose reyes?

    is this real? i sense some sarcasm.

  42. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Chomp Samba: Angel Hernandez is very streaky. Might want to trade him now.

    @joe from point pleasant: I could see going to Lopez.

    @Bensomi: Hehe

    @dave: I’d start him, but it’s no guarantee.

    @Ruah: Pagan, best guy. Stubbs best steals.

    @JP: Takahashi

    @knighttown: Closer post coming next week. I’d hold Contreras for now. You don’t need an 11th starter.

    @Mike: Ha… Different positions, but yeah.

    @Jeff: I’d prefer Jones.

    @Awesomus Maximus: Ha!

    @mikey boy324: I’d lose Chipper and start Holland.

    @mets fan: Answered right above.

    @Night Angel: Takahashi

    @Eddy: Garcia’ll probably get to a 3.50 ERA on the year, so that means a bunch of 5 run starts to even things out.

    @ThePoonTycoon: That I believe would be your bigger obstacle in savvier leagues.

    @3FingersBrown: Ha!

    @Timequake: Can’t we have Latos and Wells? Agree with Poon below.

    @Eddie: Need to look elsewhere.

    @Johnnie LeMaster: Confused by what the trade is.

    @Euroalien: It’s not too much.

    @Donnie Baseball: Pence

    @Rico: It is with much regret.

    @Slam: I’d start him at home.

    @Suck My Wieters: Reyes

  43. Johnnie LeMaster says:

    @Grey: Sorry; the trade would be Cabrera for Prince and either Hanson or Liriano. It’s a 6×5 league (the extra category is offensive Ks… which devalues Prince a little bit).

  44. hoju says:

    TimLin is pitching like Timlin and it makes me cry at night.

  45. Bichette Happens says:

    In a points league, would you go for Theriot or Starlin Castro to fill 2B?

  46. struggler says:

    Floyd @TB. Anyone starting him?

  47. @ThePoonTycoon: haren’s owner actually mentioned Hill. I wouldn’t have even bothered offering him unless he did. Now he’s having second thoughts.

    I offered Swish instead and haven’t heard a reply yet. I’d expand the deal to include other guys. I feel like I have to shake things up since my team has been bad news bears (I’m looking at you Albert, Panda, Quentin, Hill).

  48. @Grey: I’m hoping Corey Hart heats up and gives me time to let Quentin to ride the bench. Pickings are slim so I’m still hanging on.

  49. wily mo says:

    so cantu started hitting again.

    he really is a good hitter when he’s healthy. he just gets hurt and disappears sometimes.

  50. mr baseball says:

    He should have seen this coming

    Mr Baseball is Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of disturbing stories… the thrill of victory… and the agony of defeat…

    Sean Rodriguez stung by an actual ray

    On Monday, his season reached its low point. While wading in the water near his home, Rodriguez was stung by an actual ray.

  51. Fletch says:

    @Grey – I was offered Wainwright, Cliff Lee and Callaspo for my Felix, D. Wright and C. Lewis. I am thinking of taking it as I think Lee will be traded to a contender and Wainwright will finish with better numbers than Felix…this year anyways. Callaspo looks legit and Wright K’s way too much.

  52. Buddo Chezuski says:

    Grey, can you rank these guys going forward?

    Leake, Gio, Garland?

  53. Fletch says:

    @Grey – Would you do the trade if I gave up Fister instead of Lewis and/or he gave me Panda instead of Callaspo? thanks

  54. timSTi says:

    @Grey: Is it time to throw Vazquez back out there for the start @ MIN.

    Deep-ish 10 Teamer with a 1300 IP limit.

  55. Buddo Chezuski says:

    Thanks…thought I saw you mention you were worried about Leake breaking down as the year went on? I just picked him up…guess I’ll see what I can get out of him for now

  56. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Fletch: Yup

    @timSTi: Yeah, I could see starting him.

    @Buddo Chezuski: Yeah, I do worry, but he hasn’t shown any signs yet, so no need to preemptively strike.

  57. Big Nate says:

    How quickly do you see Desmond Jennings being called up? He was drafted in the 22nd round of our keeper league but later dropped. This now makes him a 21st rounder next year, and a 20th rounder the year after that. I would be either dropping Aramis (currently on the bench with Freese replacing him) or Robot Jones. Will he made a contribution in 2010?

    Of those two, which do I drop??

  58. Commish Cauda says:

    Who to start this week H2H-POINTS?

    Colby Lewis @MIN (Slowey)
    Kris Medlen vsPIT (Burres)

    With McCann’s bad quad, I’m leaning toward Lewis

  59. Big Nate says:

    And will Vlad ever get OF eligibility!?!? Just 5 more starts in RF is all I’m asking…

  60. papasmurf says:

    Ely or Takahashi?

  61. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Big Nate: I don’t see much contribution from him without an injury.

    @Commish Cauda: Medlen… But I’d start both. What does McCann’s quad have to do with Lewis?

    @Big Nate: Yeah, seriously.

  62. Grey

    Grey says:

    @papasmurf: Ely overall, Takahashi has a better next start.

  63. timSTi says:

    @Grey: Drop Simon for either Smoak or Ike in a keeper? Don’t have the DL room for Simon. He’s extra valuable in our league because he has SP eligibility where we only have 3 RP slots.

  64. timSTi says:

    @timSTi: They’d be riding the pine 90% of the time.

  65. Curse of the Goat says:

    @Commish Cauda

    I’d start Medlen. Pittsburgh’s offense is terrible and Minnesota’s is pretty good. Just my two cents.

  66. Jif & The Choosy Mothers says:

    Been reviewing and sorting my old baseball cards – mostly from the late ’70s and early ’80s. Yeah, I make few apologies – I’m a nerd. But you’re here – so you likely are too.

    So, it got me to thinking…in my endless quest to relive my youth, maybe I could collect again. But where to begin? In today’s world, Topps alone has way more choices than the old days.

    Anyone know what version of recent year cards, including this year, are just the basic, good ol’ cards without all the frills?

    Thanks for any help. Figured this might be a decent place to go for tips.

    Meanwhile, Grey, if you’re still reading – any thoughts on whether Jeff Francis can continue his early run. I know so far he’s had Washington and KC, so I’m far from sold.

  67. Long Bawls says:

    Hey Grey and Razzputins!

    I’ve been offered (in a 12-team 6×6 mix-league) CC and Bobby Abreu for Marcum and David Wright. Should I take the deal?

    On a body mass basis, it’s certainly lopsided. My 3B would become a schlubfest (Freese, w/some EE) but maybe it’d make severing ties with Carlos Q easier. Thanks!

  68. Grey

    Grey says:

    @timSTi: Smoak, but it sounds like you need Simon.

    @Jif & The Choosy Mothers: I’m letting someone else take a chance on Francis in all of my leagues. Not worth the agita. I haven’t collected since the late 80’s, so not sure. Sportsflics would be my go-to card.

    @Long Bawls: I’d want Wright.

  69. Donnie Baseball says:

    Thanks Grey, early today. Slumming it on the east coast?

  70. ThePoonTycoon says:

    @Long Bawls: no, wait for wright to have a hot streak again instead of selling him low now that he’s been in a funk for a few weeks.

  71. uncdrew says:

    Per (that’s always a fun word to use)… Per timSTi’s comment above, what is the deal with the Oreo’s closer situation.

    Do we hold Simon? Will he be given the job back when his leg boo boo gets better?

  72. Timequake says:

    @Grey: Since you like both Wells and Latos, would you rather drop Cueto for Latos instead?

  73. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Donnie Baseball: Yup, in NY for Memorial Day.

    @uncdrew: He should get the job back. Though it’s not like he’s terrific. It is saves though. SAGNOF!

    @Timequake: Nah

  74. Fletch says:

    @Grey – Who do like the rest of the year @ 3rd base, Callaspo or Sandoval?

  75. Long Bawls says:

    @Grey and @ThePoonTycoon: Thanks; I’ll prob sit tight on Wright. I guess it’s still raining, still streaming for my OF. Grey, enjoy our severe weather alerts and unidentifiable smell(s).

  76. Lob Ball says:

    I’m thinking No(Go)Lasco against Hudson and ATL tonight or should I just think what the hell and play him?

  77. GopherDay says:

    @Grey: In a dynasty league where your outfield is on the “Frickin old side” (Ichiro, Manny, H. Masui, Cuddyer, and Krispie) Would you trade Clayton Richard for Dexter Fowler? There is a minor league roster, so if Fowler were sent down I could still hold on to him.

  78. tHe ShiT says:

    @Grey: Good morning Grey. Better chance that Jaime has a nasty correction in his ERA, or he rides the J.A. Happ route? Also should Peavy be owned in my 16 tm h2h league?

  79. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Fletch: Panda

    @Long Bawls: Ha! Thanks…

    @Lob Ball: I’d start him.

    @GopherDay: Eh

    @tHe ShiT: Peavy, yes in a 16 team league. Garcia has decent Ks so it may not get terrible but he’s not a 1.14 ERA pitcher.

  80. tHe ShiT says:

    FYI 2 All:
    Wed, May 26

    OF Nelson Cruz did not run well on the last out of the game. Cruz, who spent two weeks on the DL with a hamstring injury, had his left hamstring iced after the game and acknowledged that he felt a bit of soreness in the hamstring late in the game.
    (Yahoo! Sports)

  81. tHe ShiT says:

    @Grey: Well Im gna try 2 sell Garcia, wut kinda OF should I try 2 get 4 him? Abreu, Bay,… wut guys should I target? I have PacMan, Snider, Robot, Cruz.

  82. GopherDay says:

    @Grey: I guess the trade (Richard for Fowler) is more geared towards next year. I’ve got a fairly nice pitching staff (Lincy, Marcum, Burnett, Holland, Ely, and DL’d DLR) and with only 1250 IP limit, I don’t need a plethora of starters.

    In other words, this is a long term move. I don’t need Richard, but I will need outfield for next year. I guess its hoping Fowler shows his upside…

  83. GopherDay says:

    @GopherDay: Totally forgot….Its a 14 team Dynasty league. 5X5 ROTO

  84. Grey

    Grey says:

    @tHe ShiT: Thanks for the heads up!

    @tHe ShiT: I’d take Bay, Abreu, in that order.

    @GopherDay: I like Fowler much better long term, so yeah I see what you’re getting out, try it.

  85. GopherDay says:

    @Grey: Well hopefully it gets the approval of the other manager as well!! Thats generally the hard part!

  86. Mr. Rickey says:

    Deep NL only keeper league – would you drop Villanueva, Heilman or Storen to add Braddock?

  87. ASAOK says:

    Grey – Still high on Headley? I need to drop someone with Granderson coming back – Hart, Headley or Gomes?

  88. Wilsonian says:

    Grey: Posted a question to you yesterday about an offer in my 16 Team H2H Keeper (5 players, draft, position, etc. have no effect), with the usual stats plus OPS, Ks/9 and losses. I was offered a deal of Krispie/Headley/Capps for my Carpenter/Cantu/Scott, which I turned down, per your advice and because I didn’t like that deal (I had already dropped Headley once). I countered with Carpenter/Cantu for MD/Capps (he also has Wright). He said if that is to happen, he needs Lester or J.Johnson. For the sake of clarity, here is my roster again:

    Soto; Dunn; K.Johnson; Cantu; Alexei; Hamilton; Hunter; Lind; Boesch; Scott; Smoak; Snider – DL

    Haren; J.Johnson; Lester; Carpenter; Latos; E.Santana; Holland; C.Lewis; Ely; Clippard; Axford

    What’s your take on this deal? My SPs are real solid but I could use a boost on offense. I also planned on keeping both Johnson and Lester for the coming season, so I’m a little leary of dealing one of them. Thanks again dood…

  89. GopherDay says:

    @Grey: Also, if the Padres fall out of the running, and decide to trade Bell, who do you think will end up as closer? Adams or Gregerson?

  90. Matt says:

    Was looking into picking up Oswalt in a trade and in my research I realized he’s not a good buy. Here’s why you should consider selling Oswalt…even IF he gets traded to a contender…

    1) His BABIP is .257 – that is way low. That means he’s getting really lucky on the balls that are being put into play. His career BABIP is .303 and he’s been surprisingly consistent throughout his career – this is a glaring anomaly.

    2) in 2010, his hits per 9 (H/9) is at an all time low: 6.9. Again, this is very inconsistent with his career numbers. His career H/9 is 8.7. What would his value be like if he regresses to his average and gives up two more hits per game? Could have a big impact.

    3) He’s striking out way more people in 2010 than he ever has (9 Ks per 9). You can probably guess where this is going. His career K/9 is 7.4.

    Do I think he’s a bad pitcher? No. I just think he’s pitching a bit over his head right now, and the fact that he’s up for a trade would make a possible buyer very interested in the perceived upside.

  91. GopherDay says:

    @Matt: Tell that to the Astros!! ;)

  92. genghis chone says:

    Is it time to drop Sizemore yet in 10-team mixed leagues? I need a replacement for Markakis today.

  93. Matt says:

    Grey: Who do you like better for the rest of the year: Liriano, Buchholz, Vazquez, Lackey, Kennedy?

  94. Carlos Z has slurpees says:

    Last place team. Trade Jeter/Lind for Morneau/Bay? R/HR/RBI/SB/AVG/OBP.

  95. Wilsonian says:

    @Grey: even with me throwing in Lester or Johnson instead of Carp? I’ve now countered with Carp/Cantu for MD/Qualls and he’s thinking about that one. Doesn’t want to lose Capps yet, I guess – he has good value in this league – everybody be lovin’ some closers…besides me, I have none. HA!

  96. Bostonbeerman says:

    Takahashi or Ervin Santana in a league with K/BB

  97. KarlJ. says:

    I’ll waive to you from my office on 5th Ave.
    Would you drop Quentin for Bautista or Boesch?

  98. Jif & The Choosy Mothers says:

    Thanks Grey – and also thanks for the baseball card feedback.

    If any collectors out there have tips about this year’s set – what to buy, I’d appreciate it. See post #69.

    * tee hee *

  99. Euroalien says:

    @ThePoonTycoon: @Tony: Thanks Guys. I tend to agree with both of you – if I had Lince I’d probably turn that offer down….. but for now the other guys is going to think about it. I can only hope :)

  100. Tom Emanski says:

    Apparently Nelson Cruz got injured again. Shock. Ing.

  101. Wilsonian says:

    @Tom Emanski: and also shi tee…

  102. bravo says:

    please rank these pitchers:

    Cecil, Takahashi, Bonderman…

  103. bravo says:

    btw, I’m gonna hang onto Quentin for another week or so in hopes that your post today about him sucking will pimp slap him back to reality… =D

  104. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Tom Emanski: Ha, yup.

    @bravo: The way you have them. I hope so with Quentin.

  105. Kid says:

    Ibanez still a hold? I’ve been eyeing Chris Young, J.D. Drew, and Stubbs on the FA list and while none of those options seem to be immediate adds the wait for Ibanez seems to be taking awhile. The idea of Ibanez getting benched for Francisco against lefties also doesn’t bode well.

  106. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Kid: I’d only drop him in a 10 team league at this point.

  107. Rico says:

    @Matt: Oswalts xFIP is 3.2, which is incredibly low for an SP. It’s lower than Ubaldos which is 3.6. xFIP is an easy way to save yourself a lot of pitching research.

    Whether Oswalt continue’s to pitch that well to earn an elite xFIP rest of season is anybody’s guess. Selling old pitchers who might get traded out of the NL central to a contender in the AL is probably a very wise move indeed. But that doesn’t change the fact that Oswalt as put up a top 5 SP season so far in terms of actual fundamentals.

  108. CMR says:

    hey grey, would you trade holiday for kinsler? I have Callaspo at second and Stanton on my bench. My other OFs are werth and lind

  109. chris says:

    Just got offered a deal in my Dynasty Keeper league…

    I would get Brandon Phillips

    I give up Roy Oswalt

    I have Ian Desmond as my starting 2B right now so I clearly could use an upgrade but it looks like Phillips is just tailing off right now…Thoughts?

  110. Vince says:

    12 teams, H2H, 5×5, Non Keeper

    With Granderson being activated tomorrow, I can afford to trade one of my OFs. Would you trade Krispie and Hughes to get Price? Or is it too much to give? Would you prefer giving Krispie and Hamels to get Greinke?

  111. bravo says:

    Thanks, Grey. Appreciate your help.

  112. Tony says:

    @Vince: krispie/hamels to get greinke is best……… hughes is = to price IMO…..nonkeeper

  113. bravo says:

    start c. hamels at NYM? seems he didn’t do that well against them last year…but he’s still probably a must start against most teams, right?

  114. Vince says:

    @Tony: Thanks Tony! Another option would be my Krispie for his Billingsley… Would you rather make that trade or the Krispie/Hamels for Greinke one?

  115. Tony says:

    @bravo: im starting hamels tonight H2H

    @Vince: id want greinke, wins or not he has great K/BB ratios and a solid ERA.

    IDK about bills, and i really dont know if the other owner is dealing greinke for hamels/krispie, but u can always try…

  116. Adam says:

    Is there any chance Luis Durango can become a legitimate major league leadoff hitter?

  117. Vince says:

    @Tony: Thanks for your input!

  118. Lob Ball says:

    I’m at or near the bottom of my Roto league in Ave,Runs,HRs,RBIs, OPS, and Steals.(my pitching however is awesome) I need both pop and speed. I’m waiting for some guys to heat up but who would be better going forward: Jose Lopez or E Cabrera?

  119. dj says:

    who’s starting ely tonight? bad idea?

  120. herschel says:

    @Grey: Best 2 start option for next week?

    Takahashi – @ SD, vs FLA
    Arroyo – @ STL, @ WAS
    Bonderman – vs CLE, @KC

  121. Campbell says:

    Who gets the better end of this trade?

    John Danks, Joba Chamberlain, Ryan Doumit for Ubaldo Jiminez and Brian McCann. 16 team dynasty points league where you keep everybody, K’s are a point, and pitching is emphasized. Is the Ubaldo side a huge win?

  122. Bensomi says:

    @ DJ – I’m starting Ely. We’ll see what happens. Cross your fingers and hope for the best.

  123. Tony says:

    @dj: @Bensomi: i hope ELY gets SHELLED! lol

  124. artie says:

    I’d hit accept and take Ubaldo as quickly as possible in that deal.

  125. Nuke LaDouche says:

    @Campbell: Ubaldo side for sure

  126. Grey

    Grey says:

    @chris: I’d take Phillips.

    @Vince: Agree with Tony.

    @bravo: No problem.

    @bravo: I’d start him.

    @Adam: Doubtful.

    @Lob Ball: Lopez

    @dj: I’m starting him in some leagues, depending on specifics.

    @herschel: I’d go with the two NL SPs.

    @Campbell: Yes, it’s huge and not close.

  127. Nathan says:

    @Campbell: It’s so big that it’s likely to get vetoed, IMO.

  128. big o says:

    in a dog-fight for 1st place .
    with adrian, konerko , and , the big poop @ 1st/ci
    and vlad @ utility ,
    am presently only 4.5 out of 12 in SB’s .

    is konerko for reyes a “fair” offer ?
    would you rather keep adrian or konerko , going forward ??

    thanking you , in advance .

  129. ThePoonTycoon says:

    pick a side:

    wright + cargo

    zimmerman + holliday

    zimmerman + holliday right?

    also, anyone wanna offer some insight into holliday’s struggles thus far?

  130. artie says:

    @big o:
    Take Reyes and Adrian.
    And then buy a nice sham-wow to polish your first place trophy.

  131. Grey

    Grey says:

    @big o: Konerko for Reyes is fair.

    @ThePoonTycoon: I’d want Zimmerman’s side.

  132. artie says:

    Holliday 2009.

    After the all star break…

  133. Nuke LaDouche says:

    Hey guys. I’m looking for an upgrade at 2nd base and am not sure what to package and who to target. The guys in my league treat trading like its the plague and I don’t want to give too much just to get an average 2B. My team is:

    Pierre (needed some steals and now he quit swiping)
    with Ethier on the DL

    I’m not really interested in moving my pitchers. Any advice on who to use to target a solid 2B. I know my OF is pretty full so I figure those are the guys to use. Any advice is appreciated. Oh, its a 12 team roto.

  134. @Matt: I hope his owners in my leagues are listening because I’d buy – especially in light of the trade talk. I think he’s undervalued in fantasy, due in large part to the terrible team around him.

    Speaking of which the Astros pitchers combined BABIP is .321, 2nd worst in baseball. So his abnormally low BABIP is even more extraordinary. With that in mind, the smart money says to sell. He’s still capable of putting up very good numbers, particularly in Dodger or Met blue say.

  135. kc says:

    Is Bruce worth using the 1st waiver in 12 team roto league? Quentin and Jones (Adam) is killing my OF production. My the other OFs are Kemp, Heyward, and Upton.

  136. @ThePoonTycoon:

    Holliday 2009.

    After the all star break…

  137. Tom says:

    Hey Grey

    I currently have Kevin Corria and i was think about dropping him for Jeremy Bonderman
