Baseball is back, and the Cookie Shop is once again open for business! Why a cookie shop? Because there needs to be some sort of hook for this column, and I bake a lot of cookies. So, while there is the obvious and straightforward description given for each tier, each is also assigned a type of cookie. […]

Happy Monday, Razzball faithful! Welcome to MARCH! The calendar flipping over means it’s excitement time for us fantasy baseball enthusiasts! Spring Training games have begun to give us the smallest sample sizes to analyze or, at the very least, to acknowledge. Spring break is nearly here for the kids. RazzSlam leagues are finalized AND the […]

With three first-year-player drafts behind me and one underway as I type, fantasy baseball is officially back in the Itch household. I covered my Razz 30 draft in Volume one and will share the results of two 15-team league drafts in this article.

I’ll start with the Ditka Sausage Razznasty League, a daily lineups league that’s been going for about seven years. I’ve made some good moves in this league and just as many bad ones because I feel the race against time most acutely here, meaning the crunch to maximize my daily lineup drives a lot of my decision making. I say all this to explain in part why I didn’t pick until the fourth round in this draft. I did still have my third round pick (3.43), but I moved back a few spots to add a fourth-rounder in 2026 and slide up from 5.67 to 5.61 in the fifth round this year.

A new king has been crowned! Shane Bieber is on some other ish right now. He has thrown at least 6 innings in all of his starts this year – he’s won 6 of those 7 starts. He’s first in K/9 among qualified starters, 12th best in BB/9, 3rd in WHIP, tied for first in ERA. Oh and he’s facing the 24th and 28th ranked offenses vs. righties. This might be the best two-start week of all time so he’s earned that #1 spot over Gerrit Cole. Plus in my hunt for a clever article headline has lead me to find out that his surname is derived from the German word beber which means beaver — the animal best known for chewing up wood. Bats are made of wood. Bieber has been chewing up wood!

The Mariners have been something of an s-show. On one hand, they’ve been an excellent source of cheap speed. On the other hand, Dee Gordon, J.P. Crawford, Shed Long, and Tim Lopes are a combined 9/76 with 3 steals over the last 7 days. Checks notes again. Throws up in mouth. Tosses notes into trash. Praise the fantasy gods for the Mariners newest speed demon Sam Haggerty (.7% ESPN, 1% CBS). The Mariners’ rookie batted second on Sunday and has a pair of steals and a homer in 20 plate appearances. He was never a power prospect in the minors but did steal 20+ bases in 2017 (49), 2018, and 2019. His speed kept his batting average decent due to a high BABIP. Haggerty is the proverbial shiny new speed toy in the Seattle lineup. Starting Friday, the Mariners get a four-game set against the Angels. The Angels have allowed the most stolen bases this year, so if you’re desperate for steals, grab Haggerty now to get ahead of your opponents.

If you were to predict the ace of the Astros staff in April — it would’ve been the Fram-Fram man wouldn’t it? Framber Valdez’s 1.72 ERA obviously isn’t sustainable, but his 2.59 FIP is showing me that maybe it’s not TOO far off from reality. The guy has improved drastically on his control (2 BB/9 compared to 5.6 last year) and has allowed only 1 HR in 31.1 IP this year. I’m a little worried about the walks and hits returning to previous numbers — but for this week he has two relatively good match-ups (vs LAA; vs OAK) and you should ride his hot hand. He could be up in Code Blue soon.
