I don’t necessarily love Adam LaRoche. Or LaLove him, for that matter. Sure, I’d like him more if he slept with a groupie then screamed, “And that’s how you screw LaPooch!” But I have no way of knowing that, and thinking of LaRoche having groupies is like thinking people actually buy John Tesh CDs. Though I do enjoy La Bouche — want to be my lover, be my lover! LaRoche reminds me of the guy you have on your team that you’re looking to drop all season long for anyone that’s hot, but still gives you 25 homers and passable counting stats. Strike that, he doesn’t remind me of that guy. He is that guy. Are you gonna wake up one morning and say to yourself, “I may have been fired, can’t make my mortgage payment this month and have yellow pits on my favorite t-shirt, but I own LaRoche… Today’s gonna be a good day!” Nah, son, shizz ain’t gonna be that sunny, but he’s hitting and healthy and should be owned. Anyway, here’s some more players to buy or sell this week in fantasy baseball:
BUY
Hector Santiago – On the podcast the other day, I distinctly remember saying (in my high-pitched Jersey accent that actually makes dogs howl) that Addison Reed would end up with more saves than Santiago this year. Well, la dee whatever, right now you should own Santiago.
Fernando Rodney – A crap reliever, yes. But getting saves, yup. Somewhere, Bob Wickman and his fans that used to dress as candles are smiling.
Brad Lidge – Storen is out for a few months. Does he come back at all this year? I don’t know, but when that’s even a question you should be speculating on the doodes getting saves for the Nats. Right now, that’s Lidge and Henry Rodriguez — or Benry Ridge, which sounds like a green-conscious company. Here at Benry Ridge we know your stool isn’t just something short people stand on.
Santiago Casilla – I just went over him and Romo this morning. Try the scroll, player.
Chone Figgins – Batting leadoff and over .300 as of this writing. Do I love him? Figgy, please! But there’s some value here. On a side note: I had to draft a 12-team AL-Only team for Rudy the other day (and drafted Figgy for like $4). Anyway, due to ESPN’s terrible draft room and my friend’s dog that I was watching, I accidentally nominated Scott Baker (after it was announced he’d be out for the season) and ended up with him for $1. I only nominated him because he was on the top of the out-of-date list and my time ran out because I had my hands filled with a barking dog. Obviously, I’m not drafting him and an online draft should be the best approximation to an in-person one. You shouldn’t be penalized because of stupid draft software. Immediately, I asked the draft to be paused — as we had paused it numerous times already because people accidentally bid too much or something — only this time it turned out that the host of the draft wasn’t there anymore, so no one had the controls to pause the draft. Seriously, if you host a league, have the decency to be at the draft.
Kyle Seager – In that same AL-Only league that I drafted for Rudy, I grabbed Seager for cheap. The next day Rudy was like, “Good grab on Seager.” I thought he was being sarcastic. That shows you how much I think of Seager. He’s a guy with an outside chance for a 10/10 season. Honestly, he may not be that much worse than Ackley this year.
Zack Cozart – Think this makes 4 weeks in a row I’m recommending you pick him up. Next week, he’ll break the the all-time record currently held by Ty Wigginton.
A.J. Pierzynski – Okay, now I will walk into oncoming traffic for suggesting Pierzynski.
David Murphy – There’s a contingent of people that love David Murphy, and some that just don’t get it. Call it the Murph Wars. In the big picture, he’s really a 15/12 guy with a decent average that should only be started vs. righties. But he’s also a guy that seems to produce whenever you pick him up, though that might be confirmation bias or some other fancy Psych 101 term.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis – I like Nieuwenhuis even if his name is impossible to spell. His surname sounds like a starter home in Sweden. He has decent pop and the Mets just have to stop playing Bay. Like fo’ real, fo’ real.
Lance Lynn – I like Lance a lot. His walks and Moor time he sees in the rotation may be his undoing, but he brings a solid ground ball and K-rate to the round table. (<–Dorkiest puns ever!)
Jeff Samardzija – The buzz feels a little stronger on Samardzija than Lynn. I get it, he was throwing near-100 MPH at the end of his first start. That’s exciting, that gets the blood flowing to the nether regions without any blue pills. I think Samardzija does have a higher upside, but Lynn should be a tad safer. With upside comes downside, i.e., sex is nice, but now she’s emotionally attached and she just called you “Poopsie” around your friends.
Edinson Volquez – Kinda surprised I have to beg people to pick him up. Everyone open your prayer book to “Guys who can get 200 Ks that are on waivers.” Okay, now read from it. You, “Edinson Volquez. Um, that’s all it says.” Yup.
Joe Weiland – Hodgepadre!
Juan Nicasio – Has a 7+ K-rate and should have around a 3.75 ERA. There’s always the Coors Field factor, but that’s to scare girls (no offense, 4 girl readers, that’s a figure of speech).
Jon Niese – “Hey, Grey, let me ask you a pregunta that you can use your big brain for? Edinson, Nicasio, Samardbfslkbkfwsa, Lynn or Niese? Thank you and your mustache; it looks extra bushy today!” Niese is the safest without the upside.
J.D. Martinez – He’s hitting third for the Astros and… Gah! I tried so hard to get through that compliment. He’s a’ight. Will probably have solid counting stats and 20+ homers. He’s really not that different than LaRoche (obviously a different position). Rudy likes him a decent amount. Rudy knows his shizz. Some time ask Rudy about the time he vomited in the back of a taxi, then, once you got him talking, ask him about J.D.
Alejandro De Aza – You pick him up for the steals and you stay for the occasional homer and fun you can have singing his first name at a gay bar. In all seriousness, he could be a cheap Victorino.
Alex Presley – I was downright floored — floored, I tell ya! — when I saw he was only owned in 6.6% of ESPN leagues. Save that fear of success shizz for your real life, this is fantasy baseball!
Jordan Schafer – What’s this a 4,000 word post about speedy outfielders that have some minor pop? I will pop you, son!
Ryan Sweeney – I told you to pick him up last week and I’m not going to repeat myself. And that’s me quoting me, but, and this is a J. Lo-sized but, what a schmohawk! Are you being meta? Yes, Random Italicized Voice.
SELL
Mark Trumbo – I was surprised to get questions the last few days about dropping Trumbo. I didn’t think people drafted him. Stone Hands At 3rd + Pujols + Morales + Crowded Outfield = A near mint Dave Concepción rookie card. Hmm, that math looks wrong. I think I forgot to carry a one somewhere. Either way, you need to look elsewhere if you own Trumbo.
Chad Billingsley – Is there any pitcher that had cushier matchups his first two times out? Padres are like a throwback offense to the dead ball era and the Pirates haven’t had a winning season since Chuck Tanner. If you think you can flip Bills, I’d make sure I had some back support. If you think you can trade him for someone like, say, Luebke, I’d do it.
Brandon Belt – I still like him, but he’s the sun and Bochy’s head is the moon and there’s a total eclipse of the gooftard.
new vendor, new tshirts !!!
@wilsoniam, Working on it…
@Grey: Follow up of my Goldschmidt post – I was thinking Carlos Pena right now… Tough call on a guy like Goldschmidt where you see that sexy ISO and think about the potential…
@William, I’d prefer Goldschmidt over Pena…
grey you beautiful cougar hunting man you
you look good!
hows cali man? lets do lunch!
have your people call my people.
stay beautiful.
Hella yeah.
@Grey, come on bwo (that’s how they say bro in jersey right?)…
@beardcrabs, You know it, bwo.
Are you still thinkin’ hang tight on Tabata over say Presley or Schafer? And for how long? I’m thinkin’ I’m gonna drop him on May 1st if he’s still batting under .200.
I’d hold Tabata for now…
good work, Poopsie
love,
cougar
HA!
Up to 4 girl readers now??? NICE!
Make sure you apply deodorant before you come on this site…
I was surprised to see that there is actually a Bochy bobblehead. Would have thought it would be physically impossible to make one that was not so top heavy that it would just topple over with the slightest nudge.
What the hell is he storing in there, because it’s not brains. Play Belt, goddammit! YOU ARE SINGLEHANDEDLY DESTROYING MY RCL TEAM!!!
Whew, that felt good. BUT DON’T MAKE ME SAY IT AGAIN.
HA! Bochy sucks… Can’t believe what he’s doing to Belt…
Would you trade LaRoche for McCarthy if you needed pitching? Maybe try getting Luebke instead?
Try and get Luebke…
Do you like Newhouse more than Presley? Only if he gets everyday at bats right?
Only if he gets everyday ABs…
Great read as always…
would you attempt to trade Billingsley straight up for, say, a Luebke type, or try to package him along with Youkilis for an upgrade at 3B?
#Justice4Greyvon
I would…
great work boss man
Thanks, AL!
Sell Trumbo, really? Still proving his worth, even if he plays only 5 days a week. He’s walking a lot and providing a steady source of stats on the days he does play. Kind of like when Napoli’s fate was ruled by the Sciosciapath.
Napoli was a catcher…
@Grey, Yeah, and? If Trumbo is your starting 1B then you obviously have problems, but I don’t see what the big deal is with him if he’s a Util guy.
@Cougar, Because Napoli is a catcher, he must be compared with other catchers, who receive less playing time than other positions. So you have to compare Trumbo with players who are almost always starting. If you could move him for a solid, full time player, it could benefit your team because you won’t always have to play the guessing game regarding whether or not Scoscia will start him.
@Cougar, he’s technically a bench guy because he doesn’t play that often… keep him if you have other decent Util options…
Drop any of these Schmohawks for somebody on today’s Buy list? Ike Davis, Raul Ibanez, Adam Dunn, Coco Crips.
Sure, Ibanez… Don’t really like Dunn either…
Talk about a brain fart. I was going to drop belt for Tabata and picked up Huff by mistake. I was thinking here’s the reason why I have to drop Belt. Hope Tabata breaks out of his funk…
Who are you, Bochy?
@Grey, I’m giving Tabata a long leash now. Don’t worry!
@mauledbypandas, shoulda kept huff for today!
would you drop lynn,nicasio or peralta for peavy,have 3 closers 12 team rcl
@dog chapman, Peralta
Would you trade LaRoche for McCarthy if you needed pitching? Maybe try getting Luebke instead?
@Nuke LaDouche, Sure, Luebke’s above him…
So, would you rather have Tabata, Figgins, or J.D. Martinez for a LF spot that is usually occupied by the currently injured Puma Berkman?
@JackInTheBox, JD
@Grey, Thanks
I tried to move Bills for everybody under the sun, but finally had to drop him for Hochevar’s start today. Can’t sleep on the extra starts in a H2H points league. But are the Pirates that bad? And therefore (henceforth?) do you like Zito v. Buccs over the Tommy Milone v. SEA on Saturday for a saturday streamer?
(crying emoticon) My auction-roto league disbanded. I miss having to care about saves and steals. I’ll have to try and get in an RCL next season.
@Jef, Milone over Zito…
@Jef, Yes, the Pirates are that bad.
-A Pirate Fan
Okay, with Crawford on the DL, I need a LF in my league since we start OF position specific. I’ve got Prado in there right now but Murphy, Presley, and Martinez are all sitting on the wire. I could use a guy who does a little of everything, including steal bases. Which one would you roll with over Prado, if any?
@frank rizzo, Murphy
Allen Craig is due to return soon. Not long ago you were very high on him. The question: Crair OR De Aza, javy Guerra, Volquez, Presley?
@Joel, **Craig
@Joel, Guerra
Without seeing how Nolasco pitches tonight, would you drop him (after today, his next start is home vs CHC) or McCarthy (next start @LAA) to nab Lynn for tomorrow (vs CHC at home)?
With that tasty matchup for Lynn tomorrow, I’m anxious to move on him before someone else grabs him – plus I’m going offline for the weekend and won’t see how it all goes down til much later. Otherwise I’d try and wait to see how Nolasco looks tonight – but I can’t. What do you think? My other SPs are MadBum (sonuvabench!), Morrow, JZimm, D. Holland.
@Goose, Lynn over Nolasco…
@Grey,
Gah! Someone nabbed him in the time it took me to go toast a bagel. I got bagel’d! Sesame’d!
@Goose, Better than getting everything’d.
grandy with a hr,maybe my guys are waking up
dyson gets the start
@AL KOHOLIC, Dah… Why do they hate the Bourgeois?
“Samardbfslkbkfwsa”
This post was brilliant!
Looking for some MI help b/c somehow I thought it would be nice to draft Espinosa in the late rounds. What do you think, should I ride him out or go get Bloomquist, B Crawford, or Barney? Could use more Runs…
@Turk Wendell, Thanks! I’d ride him…
Kendrys or Laroche?
@BLW, Kendrys
In case anyone is wondering why Youk is actually doing something, it’s because I benched his stupid, big, fat head (for LaRoche) in my H2H league.
You’re welcome.
@Steve, bench ross,he is terrible but with all the injuries im starting him
Which Side you like?
Adam Jones & Lincecum or Lester, Rasmus & Heth Bell
@HotRod, Jones & Lince, and I don’t think it’s that close.
@HotRod, if you needs saves counter with a better OF…
Grey, I know you were high on Morel in the pre-season, but this guy stinks worse than a soiled diaper left out in the sun on a beach in Atlantic City.
Time for me to get Figgy wit’ it, I guess.
@stumanji, HA! Yeah, he’s been bad… Sure, Figgy…
Drop Addison Reed for Casilla?
@Bhoner, Okay…
Peavy looking like he thinks it’s 2006…
@Wilsonian, Riiiight
@Grey, He’s killing the Tiggers. Unfortunately for him, Scherzer looks great, just one mistake to Viciedo.
@Wilsonian, Peavy’s killin’ it. Making the Tigres look like the Pirates. Glad I didn’t bench him.
@Grey, 8 Ks and 1 hit through 6 innings for Peavy.
@Wilsonian, I know, I meant riiiight more like, “I know right? Insane… Especially after I just dropped him last night for Lance Lynn.” Steve’s cursed me.
@Grey, Ah, I thought you were being hella sarcastic. I don’t have Peavy anywhere. Do have Max in a losses league, however (but luckily a Ks/9 league, too). And damn those Kiwis.
@Wilsonian, I was in a league last year that counted Losses. Hated it. Even stupider stat than wins. 3-0 ChiSox
@LJ, Agreed. I’m in a league that counts them. It’s a bullshit stat.
@LJ, yeah, I’m the commish and everyone voted for it. I’m thinking about going all Castro on them (so Ozzie will like me) and get rid of it for next year.
@Grey, I though The Peav was your boy!
Sorry about that, chief. I do try and use it for good but there is some occasional friendly fire.
@Steve, Ha, yeah, got caught in the crossfire… I liked him, but I saw Lynn peering out at me with his big blue eyes…
16 teamer. One bench spot. I need some speed.
Drop Rasmus for Figgins or Schafer? LaRoche out there too obv not for speed though.
@Dirtyd, I hate to give up on Rasmus just yet…
You know how most people say LOL but in reality don’t actually laugh out loud, just more of a figure of speech? Well I literally LOL’d at the Samardbfslkbkfwsa line! Thanks for always putting a smile on my face Grey! I’m naming my first, second and third after you!
@B.o.B, Thanks!
Watching the Sox game. Reid Brignac just landed on Jacoby Ellsbury at 2nd. Looks like Ells’ shoulder went *pop*.
Granted, this happened seconds ago, so I don’t have an MRI to back this up, but those of you with The World’s Fastest Indian in your lineup might want to look elsewhere for the next 4-6 weeks.
For serious?
@Grey, Yeah. Brignac’s full weight came down on Ells. Does not look good.
Yikes
@Grey, Well this should up Sweeney’s value. Sweeney over Stubbs or Ike Davis for Util? (Don’t really need steals.)
So the Peav is working out a treat. Which of the rest of my guys that I have going today in H2H is most likely to get clobbered?
Hudson @COL
Hochevar v CLE
Zimm v CIN
Nolasco v HOU
@Steve, Solid lead in ERA and WHIP, just behind in Ks and down 1-3 in Wins.
@Steve, I don’t trust any of them with those matchups, but I’d definitely start Hudson, Nolasco, Zimm…
@Grey, Yeah. None of the are great, but needs must in H2H. We’re too late on Hochevar (sad face).
Damn kids breakfast…
Damn… Just heard from Rudy on IM that Choo got to him… Oh, well… Fingers crossed…
Is Peavy smoke and mirrors or is he back?? Blanking the Tigers today 6IP, 1H, 8K.
@My My MY Kuroda, It’s one start…. I’d own him though…
@My My MY Kuroda, Great name.
Zito vs Pit
or
Minor versus Milwaukee
Both free agents who do you pick up for tomorrows start?
@Sal, Minor
O Grey One,
Should I drop Logan Morrison for any of the OF’s you mentioned (Murphy, Presley, Schafer, Sweeney) in a 12 team standard Yahoo Rotisserie league?
@Oddibe Young Again, Nope
How long does one wait on Rasmus? At this rate im thinking a week or two. Also, I know its written above but I have A. Reed currently and Hector is on waivers. We count holds so with eventual saves and holds im leaning on holding Reed. Ha 2 holds in one day.
@Dirtyd, Next week this time, at least….I’d go with saves, but your call…
Come on White Sox pen…
Am I the only one that had this happen?
I signed up for that Draft Day Freeroll that Grey mentioned in the last post. Then about an hour and a half after I signed up I started getting emails from them (actually the same email over and over). I proceeded to get an email a minute for a little over an hour. “ATTENTION: Your free game awaits!”. I thought I was seeing double….or triple…or quadruple…or whatever comes after that for a while there.
I’m sorry about that, I’ve never done it, but Rudy did and said it was fine.
I emailed the company and they said, “There was a minor glitch where about 20 new users got an influx of support emails. The problem was resolved earlier this morning, they must have just checked their email. I apologize about this!” Sorry about that too…
@Grey, No problem, I just cleaned out my inbox and its like it never happened. Thanks for looking into it though Grey, much appreciated!
@A Hill O’ Beans, No problem…
@Grey, They seem pretty relentless there, I’ll give them that. About a minute before you posted your last comment here they sent me another email, “We noticed you’ve played a little, but not with real money yet…”. Whoa! Slow down guys, I signed up today and frankly, you’re coming off as a little desperate….so I’m just going to go to the bathroom and I swear, I’ll be right back. No honest, I will….
Geez, they’re like strippers…
It’s probably too soon to drop Nathan for Mike Adams, right? I know Nathan’s contract probably gets him a longer leash than he deserves, but Adams won’t hang on the wire forever… especially not in my stupid league, which over-values closers. Stupid closers. I hate closers. I’m already carrying way too many RPs ’cause I had to handcuff stupid, fat Jonathan Broxton. I don’t really have bench bats to drop (Cozart and Trout are the only guys on my bench), and all my starters are killing it so far.
12-team, H2H, 6×6, 8 keepers.
PS – I hate closers.
Ha… Yeah, too early…
@Grey, Did I mention I hate closers?
Also, thanks.
Every time I have started that bastard, he’s been clobbered.
@Steve, ERA before that inning, 2.43. ERA now, 4.10. Fuck you Hochevar.
@Steve, yeah he bungholed me to,and to top it off,yes a real nice game from becket,but i expected a few more k,s than 1 when i took him
Ouch, just saw…
@Steve, yeah steve i think he did about the same in the 1 start i gave him last year
Any thoughts on if Dyson is worth a pick up? How long is he gonna hang around you think?
@FuzzyD, He needs everyday ABs, but as a bench bat for SAGNOF it could work…
For a utility spot for injuries, do i pick up willingham or cozart?
@Chris, Cozart
Anyone know why Price only threw 3 innings today?
@Wilsonian, Too many pitches is my guess…
@Grey, hopefully his shoulder didn’t fall off like Ellsbury’s… Although I’m not sure you could only lose your shoulder. Pretty sure if it fell off, the whole arm would come off, too.
@Wilsonian, His pitch count got up into the 80s in the 3rd. He couldn’t get anyone out, so he got the hook. No injury or incident that I could see.
@Lines, Makes sense. Thanks. I just got online and saw he only tossed 3 innings and it wasn’t like it was 12-2 at that point.
@Wilsonian, He actually looked good for the first 2 innings. Throwing hard, locating well, keeping the ball down, etc. But the Sox just figured him out in the 3rd. He had been staying away from lefties up to that point; the Sox hitters adjusted, and started going the other way on everything.
His pitch count jumped up in a hurry, and he got yanked. I don’t blame Maddon, I wouldn’t want one of my aces torching his arm in April.
Grey,
Not liking what I am seeing from Dunn and Rios in my h2h yahoo league.
Thinking about dropping Rios for Boesch (should I use my #3 waiver for him) and then dropping Dunn for LaRoche.
Thoughts?
@Jack, Go for it…
My boy Hochevar, he rollin’ now.
@Steve, And he only left the game cos he got hit on the leg. Robbed!
You forgot to add mini mini donkey to the buy list.
@GTS, Sounds like BS now, but I almost did last night…
The ’27 Cubbies giving Samardbfslkbkfwsa a decent early cushion.
@Wilsonian, Ha!
@Grey, I take personal joy in this being that I’m a Cubs fan living an hour and a half away from STL.
@Wilsonian, Hehe
Grey,
Was just offered the following trade in a 12-team H2H, OBP instead of AVG:
Get Ethier and Cueto for Bumgarner
Not psyched about it, but want to be sure I’m not overlooking something. Thoughts?
C-Iannetta
1B-Konerko
2B-Kinsler
SS-Aybar
OF-Bruce
OF-Werth
OF-J Upton
UT-Espinosa
B-M Reynolds
B-Lind
B-LoMo
Gallardo
Gio Gonzalez
Bumgarner
D Holland
Scherzer
Chapman
Cahill
Valverde
Cordero
Salas
Thanks.
@Ghost of the Purple Porpoise, I don’t like it…
Grey,
J.D. Martinez or D. Murphy if I can pick up just one? I’m looking for a decent fill in for Morse.
Thanks!
@Adam, Murphy
Trumbo led the Angels in HR’s and RBI’s last year, he is going to play. He will play 5 days a week. I have him in my daily moves league and I will not be dropping him. If you drop him for anyone on that BUY list you are just donating your money to your league.
Someone dropped LaHair in my 14 team H2H. Would you pick him up in place of Rasmus? This is for a place on my bench.
(I’m assuming if I pick him up I should use my #7 waiver priority)
@Danger Zone, I wouldn’t yet…
@Grey, LaHair should be owned in a 14 team league, but I wouldn’t drop Rasmus for him. Do you have anybody else to drop?
@stumanji, I’ve got A. Hill also (Espinoza is my starter). I don’t want more than 2 bench hitters, so he is really the only other guy I’d consider.
@Danger Zone, I wouldn’t drop Hill. If you dropped Rasmus I’m not saying I’d paint your face and call you a clown, but I would hold.
@stumanji, @Grey, Yeah, that was my thinking with Hill. There have been a couple guys in my league saying they wanted to trade for a 2B, what kind of pitcher (starter or closer) do you think is good value for Hill?
@Danger Zone, Probably a #3/4 starter or a Donkeycorn closer. Wait till Hill puts together a few good games at the plate and then try to deal him.
Yeah, I have Hochevar and Ellsbury. I was driving from San Diego to SLO in the pouring rain. Stopped for gas…hey I’ll just check scores real quick. F-Bombs worthy of a Bob Saget set followed by a sad face Bergman coulda made a whole film about. But hey at least I’ve got Nick Hundley. Ok, enough whining.
@OaktownSteve, Ouch and… Ouch…
@Grey, This is my f****** outlet!
@Steve, Nice…
@Grey, Friday the effing 13th. Shoulda stood in bed.
@OaktownSteve, Shake it off!
Lose Tabata for LaHair?
@GTS, I wouldn’t, but they’re apples and oranges…
Whom would you start of Milone, Zito, Edwin Jackson, Gavin Floyd, Chacin, Zambrano? I’m definitely starting Lynn but not sure if I should start any of these other guys.
@Frank Kim, Milone
@Grey, Thanks. I’ll go for it.
Grey, how far down would you sink in Giancarlo offers? Shin-Soo Choo? Deeper? Right now I really want to forget I ever knew his touch…
@Seth, Ha… I would want more than Choo…
I was really hoping that Doumit would be getting more playing time, but he isn’t. Do you prefer Lucroy now over Doumit for the rest of the season? I’m thinking its time to make the move…
@The Vaporizers, Doumit’s a better bat… But PT is a concern…
@The Vaporizers, I’m holding on to Doumit on my bench to see if he can get CI/OF eligibility and give me flexibility in case of injury to any of my starters. He hasn’t been seeing as much time as I hoped, though. If he’s your starting C I would start exploring other options because he’s just not getting ABs.
Hey Grey, I’m wondering if I should drop Jonathan Sanchez for Lynn. Think Sanchez is worth holding on to for another start first, or should I go with Lynn now?
@Dave, I’d hold…
Benry Ridge made me the most dericious dragon low that I’ve ever tasted…
@Wake Up, HA!
Should I drop Rios for any of the pitchers on your buy list?
@DjlanceRauch, I wouldn’t…
I have been offered Nelson Cruz and Darvish for Verlander….is that good return for Verlander if I could use some pop yet don’t want to kill my pitching staff?
@j, It’s fair, could kill your staff… Hard to say…
@j, I’d want to see more from Yu before you deal the best SP in the game for him. Of course, if he’s lights out in his next start the offer might not be on the table anymore. I’d still hold, though. Despite his power potential, Cruz is a nightmare to own with his constant injuries.
matt cain. beautiful.
@charlie batch, And it could have been a perfect game…the only man to reach base was the pitcher McDonald with a hit in the 6th.
@Danger Zone, “GET OUT OF THE WAY, IDIOT!!”
Ugh, Joel Peralta has been bludgeoning my ERA this week.
Yeah, you gotta lose Peralta…
@Grey, Yea I just dropped him for a young Tom(my) Milone and his tasty start at Safeco this weekend.
@stumanji, Nice…
@ Grey :
like you , i streamed aubrey huff , yesterday , to have him go up
against old man moyer in coors .
unlike you , i interpreted his absence from yesterday game as a SIGN ,
and put him back in there for today’s game .
yay …. me !!
tonight , i will drop him .
@chata,
maybe/probably
@chata, Damn!
And another line out for Rasmus.
When I golf with my brother-in-law, he always says to never tell yourself “don’t do [x],” because, as he sees it, your brain only understands the end of the sentence and omits the “don’t.” I wonder if Rasmus is constantly telling himself, “don’t hit a line drive straight at a fielder.” I know I’m constantly thinking “GODDAMMIT RASMUS DON’T HIT ANOTHER LINE DRIVE STRAIGHT AT A FIELDER.” So maybe it’s my fault.
Sounds like something I learned once when I was bartending in college… Was told always nod your head when you’re asking someone if they want another drink… Subliminally tells them they do… Of course, if they’re already blotto not sure it matters…
@Grey, I asked Rasmus is he wanted to hit a HR while nodding my head.
Yes, the power of the nod… Too bad he shook his head back, nah, I’m good.
@royce!, Oh, shoot, it worked… Nice! The power of the nod! Can’t believe how many people asking me to drop him and not one person comes on saying finally he went deep…
@Grey, Oppo shot too…kid clearly has got some talent.
Man, Wieters missed a jack by a couple feet…
Man’s on fire…
Grey – Parker and Bauer are out there in a deep pitching league. Who would you suggest?
Bauer
Hey Grey,
can you rank these two starters for next week?
Humber: vs Arrieta in chicago, vs beavan @seattle
Blanton: vs madbum in SF, vs Padres (TBD)
Weiland: vs Strasburg in was, vs kershaw in L.A.
Thanks
Humber, Weiland…
Should I replace G. Sanchez for Laroache, see Sanchez is hitting 7th now
Thanks
Nope
So while I’m patiently waiting for Jesus to gain C eligibility, I’m riding Arencibia…he’s driving me nuts with this .083 batting average. Soto, Ramos, Martin, Suzuki, Lucroy, Ruiz, Pierzynski, Iannetta among those that are available…what do you recommend?
Sidenote: is it just me or is it impossible to say “patiently waiting” without busting out into 50 Cent/Eminem mode??
HA, so true…I would hold…
@B.o.B, Id grab Ramos. Have him in a 16 teamer as my C, good young player.
H2h points league. Looking for a rp for holds that gets K’s… Pick up cashner, brothers, crow, perkins, guerrier, boggs, rauch, or sean burnett?
Thanks in advance
Cashner
@Grey: Drop Doumit for Peirzynski? Also, I have Jeter and Desmond, looking to trade one in a package for pitching. Do you believe Desmond will have a better season than Jeter? I guess I am asking if you had to pick 1 to keep, who would it be?
Doumit, Jeter…
Looking for a replacement while Ellsbury is on the shelf……Alex Presley, JD Martinez, Vernon Wells and Tori Hunter are all available (Martinez, Wells and Hunter all on waivers, Presley free)…..
14 teamer, 5×5 (standard, OBP over avg)…..
I picked up Presley for now, and was thinking of putting in a claim for Martinez who clears tomorrow……or Wells/Hunter who clear Sunday.
Your advice?
Hunter…
A: That sinking feeling in your stomach (again)
Q: what happens every Friday when I see half my roster on Grey’s sell list?
But you’re wrong this time. You can quote my later but Bills is money! Har har. But really, silly to sell Billy. Billingsly will win the comeback player of the year trophy. It’s only 8″ tall and made of plastic, but it’ll be his.
Ha, it’ll be a fantastic get for his ice skating trophies.
which one? they will be a bench player and fill in at UTIL or their position. tabata, rasmus, maybin, de aza, bourjos, figgins, or seager
@will, Bourjos
@Grey, will they ever get Bourjos out of the 9th spot? I would be more willing to stick with him if he was hitting at the top
@will, Then go with Maybin…
Grey, 12-team,H2H, 5×5,
Would u drop Matt Thornton for Brad Lidge? The only reason I have Thornton is because I’m waiting for somewhat of a closer.. even though Lidge is mehhh
Thanks BnY!
@tggq21, BnY… I’d take Lidge…
My batting is 2/33 so far! talk about embarrassing.
@tggq21, BnY
Effing Marlins bullpen.
@Steve, Would’ve been nice to get a vulture win from Lidge there…
@Grey: Rauch or Peralta best for potential saves?
@tHe sHiT, Peralta, but I wouldn’t own him right now…
I don’t get the lack of love for JD Martinez. The kid hit 350+ in the minors two or three times. He’s hitting very well in the early going now and hit his 3rd homer tonight.
He can hit and is probably better than your worst OF
Grey, how much does Ellsbury’s injury up Sweeney’s value now? Sweeney over Stubbs or Ike Davis for Util? (Don’t, really need steals.)
Not over those guys…

Jesus Montero
Jordan Zimmermann
Matt Moore
Hey Grey I am interested in Jacoby Ellsbury – would a Montero and Zimmerman offer or Montero an Moore offer be fair to get Jacoby Ellsbury – this manager is a pain in the neck man – he sends 100 trades offers through the season that benifit his team – either way my team is 10 years away from competing in this league – I took over the team
This trade is terrible… I don’t know Ellsbury’s condition… I’m at Benihana…
Hudson can piss off too. Tough start, but Jesus. Between him, Hochevar and the Marlins pen blowing Nolasco’s win it’s been a great day in the ol’ H2H.
Thanks goodness for The Peav.
Meanwhile, Holy Harangatang! 9 Ks through 3 innings.
@Steve, Yeah, 9 K straight…broke the Dodgers franchise record, has a chance to break the all time record. He apparently lives up the street from me, but I think we should discuss it as much as possible in order to jinx him. Not sure if intentional jinxes work, though…
@royce!, Naturally I looked at him for a streamer and decided against him.
@Steve, I wonder if he is going to break the all time record for consecutive Ks…it’s one of the things I wonder about when I am watching him pitch against the Padres, especially when he has K’d 9 in a row. I’m just saying, he could break the all time record for consecutive K’s….
@royce!, Do you think there’s a chance he breaks the all time consecutive Ks record?
@Steve, HA! NOPE! WE ARE ALL POWERFUL!
@royce!, They know not who they’re dealing with.
@royce!, Man, we got him real good.
@Steve, I can’t wait to tell my grandchildren about the day that my friend and I thwarted a major league pitcher from making history
@royce!, Their delight and amazement would be equivalent to the contempt displayed by my wife, should I ever decide to explain the same thing to her.
@Steve, The Padres have been courting me to buy some sort of season ticket shizz this year- I’ve hung out in the clubhouse to watch March Madness with free food and booze, and night before last, went to sit in the owner’s daughter’s box, again with free food and booze…anyhow, they’re always trying to sell me on the team, and I often know more than them about baseball (I’m not bragging- they’re salesmen, not baseball fans), but I’ve never had a full-on trump card until tonight. 9 consecutive K’s and then a bunch of runs likely due to crap fielding.
Venable HR- nevermind, I love this team!
Wow…
Grey – can you please pick a couple for Sunday, please? 12-team H2H…
Happ @ FLA
Matusz @ TOR
Detwiler v CIN
Narveson @ ATL
Dubront v TAM
Mendoza v CLE
Westbrook v STL
Beavan v A’s
Just ahead in Ks/ERA/WHIP. Tied in Wins. At this stage opponent has Zito tomorrow, Leake on Sunday.
Thanks!
@Steve, You can throw Correia @ SF in there too.
Narveson, Beavan… They’re obviously not great…
@Grey, Oh, they’re terrible, no doubt.
Just got a trade offer in the ol H2H – my Cahill for his Hardy.
Would have to shift Boneface to the bench (to be used when steals needed I suppose) or to CF (where I have Rios currently) in order to fit Hardy in at SS.
Cahill is at the arse end of my slightly ragged rotation. Not really feeling it. What say you?
Not crazy about it…
@Grey, Eh, go back to your Hibachi Shrimp. He pulled the offer.
How’s this for a batting line:
Freddie Freeman: 0/3 with 3 runs scored
That’s gotta be tough to do.
@Hawk, Meh, not really. A few FC’s, a few BBs. Just because he’s not getting hits doesn’t mean he’s not on base at all.
Sounds Freemanish…
I’m trying on the idea of Luke Scott as Lance Berkman lite (somewhat better lineup than earlier in his career, less wear b/c he’s DHing, also fragile like an overpriced porcelain souvenir). Think he might be a Poor Man’s Puma (which I guess would make him, what, an ocelot)?
Similarly, you think Kottaras is a pure mirage, or someone with enough potential to start thinking of puns on his name? I think probably the former, but in his last year in the non-PCL minors he did hit 22 HRs.
I like Kottaras… He needs to be the number one catcher though…
I’ve drafted, owned, and started Presley all season (yeah, the ENTIRE season). He’s half of my SS/OF “Elvis Presley” combo… the half that’s been producing. No idea what’s happening in the other 93.4% of ESPN leagues, but my guess is that it’s a combination of them being abandoned, 10-team and shallower, AL-only, and the super competitive 5 C, 1 OF leagues.
@Awesomus Maximus, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 SB is producing?
@stumanji, Compared to Andrus (and let’s not forget the .318 AVG)? Yeah, that’s production.
Yup… No idea…
Rasmus! Finally! He’s on my bench, but it’s good to see some life out of him. I just can’t stomach the thought of dropping him for some schmohawk and then watching him put up 20/10 this year (ok, I’ll take 15/5).
It’s not too late for him…
Wow. A team with Fielder, Tulo, Longo, Kemp, JUp and Bruce is still waiting on their first homerun of the week…
@Wilsonian, Ah, the ol’ 4 team league…
@stumanji, Ha. Close. 8 teams. But still…you’d think someone might hit a bomb.
Belt sh*tuation is terrible…hate to drop him but hard to keep him if no playing time. I have J. Montero, Belt and Boesch as bench bats.
Drop Belt or Boesch for JD Martinez?
Drop either of them for flavor of the week streaming SP (Peavy available)?
Belt…
@Grey,
Drop boesch for jd or is that tomato, tomatoe?
Stubbs is 0-11 with 6 K’s this series against Washington.
Good job, Stubby!!!!!!!!!!
@Derrick, Didn’t he get you a steal of firstbase
@Derrick, That guy is already pissing me off. He’s about ready to get benched for Rasmus or Schafer.
if you had to part with a closer right now, who would it be:
street, marshall, balfour?
I only have room for two…
@paulzone, You can’t package one in a 2-for-1? I’d try to move Street, since he’s got the most cred.
@Long Bawls, i could possibly try, but this is a shallow league and there are still saves on the wire…12 teams but only 3 rp spots and most roll with 2 closers and 1 mr for holds…
Street, Marshall…
@Grey, so you like balfour over street/marshall?
Street and Marshall over Balfour, last two are close though…
Ellsbury (shoulder) out at least six weeks
@Mr Baseball, Someone, somewhere, is assembling a superbeing composed of all the parts they’re taking out of surgery-bound ballplayers this season.
Ouch…
Brad Mills stuck to his stupid spring training plan and moved Jose Altuve, he of the .368/.435/.474 slashline before tonight, from the two hole to the eighth spot in favor of Jed Lowrie. Mills said he wants a “left-handed bat” in that second spot (left-handed bat is in quotes because Lowrie has a .214 career average hitting from the left side). It’s already hard enough to be an Astros fan without the manager a) being lazy and/or retarded, and b) doing everything he can to shite all over your favorite players on the team (he worked his special brand of black magic on Bourgeois last year) and c) I’m too annoyed to think of a c. “I know what’ll help this kid develop… let’s hide him and his great contact skills in the bottom of the lineup right after he seems to be figuring things out and learning how to take a walk.” Pathetic. Okay, rant complete.
On a less angsty note, I don’t think anybody’s ever visually fit their nickname better than the Harangutan. When I see him I instantly think of King Louie from the Jungle Book.
Great rant! Ha…
@Grey, Thank you sir. It’d been building all day because I was hoping against hope that maybe Mills would stick with a lineup that’s surprisingly been in the top half of the league in scoring so far. Sure it’s a stupidly small sample size, but all alliterations aside, it’s something to latch onto.
Sucks being a fan of two teams with mediocre at best managers (You’re really scared to start a phenomenal Derek Holland in the seventh game of the World Series, Ron? Matt Harrison, huh? Wash is a good cheerleader, though. Wonder where he gets the energy…). Sucks even worse when those two teams are going to be forced to spend the rest of eternity playing in the same division. I could always cheer for both all year and it was a quaint experience when they would face each other in interleague play, but now I’ll be forced to pick sides. Also, as if it wasn’t bad enough that Pujols almost single-handedly wrecked Brad Lidge’s career/my high high schooler’s hopes in 2005, Bud Selig just had to do his best to make sure that he’s going to be haunting both my team’s stadiums along with my nightmares for another decade?
Okay, I promise that’s it. Years of repressed frustration and getting trophy-teased pouring out right there. Actually one more: Just lay out, Nelson. It could be the last out of the World Series. For the love of Ben Zobrist’s Hot Wife’s Other Main Man In The Sky, just lay out.
Anyhow, back to the original point of my comment before I went off on another crazed fangent: as much as I love Lil Altuve I’m not loving the idea of an NL eight holer as the MI on my fantasy team. The only position dirtier than an eight holer is a nine holer, and La Russa and Yost are the only ones I can remember being brave enough to venture into that territory. I’m going to give it some time to see how it works and if Jed gets hurt again, but when I’m inevitably disappointed in the results who would you want to own out of Yunel, Aviles or *shudder* Lowrie?
@Marty Funkhouser, Damn, ramble much? That was an insomnia-driven novel. Sorry about that. Anyway, there is an actual question down there at the end of all that whining.
Which streamer do you like better this week?
Detwiler v Cin (Leake)
Doubront v TB (Moore)

Neither? Detwiler…
Better looking OF combo
Belt/Car-Go/Bruce, or Car-Go/Rios/Bruce?

@Grey, Thanks. How was dinner? Family hamburgers here.
@Steve, Fun…Ridiculous… You know the type of place right?
@Grey, Chef firing food at people in all directions?
@Steve, Yeah, it’s super silly and the food’s not good… But we were drinking pina coladas out of a Buddha’s belly, so how bad could it be…
SHAME ON YOU , GREY ALBRIGHT :
after all this time , where you’ve admonished me for gambling
on baseball , you’re , now , promoting a gambling fantasy baseball site ?
what ?
you couldn’t come up with any better sponsors ??
“but it’s only a freeroll”
the 1st shot of heroin always is .
“honey , i lost this month’s rent gambling on fantasy baseball”
you , what ??
“chill , sweetie , i lost about 3 months of daiquiris , that i was going to donate to Grey . how do you think he feels ??”
……
so there it is , dude .
i say “shame on you” .
back in the hippie days ,
we would have labeled you a “sell-out” .
@chata, gotta’ side with chata on this one. the lure of money for free got me to do the first one. did not at all like the feel of this ‘gambling site’. Easy for me to not take that next ‘freeroll’, but others…easy to get caught up. On behalf of Grey, can understand allegiance to doc, but, for myself, pretty disappointed to see doc headed this direction. always thought of him as a knight on the white horse.
i’m no white night myself. i say let bygones be bygones, and let go of this promotion.
@chata, @Simply Fred, Rudy did it, actually a lot of guys do it… So I saw no harm… Honestly, I still see no harm because you’re not beholden to do it… You don’t want to do it, you can look the other way as I do, since I don’t do it myself…
@Grey,
Razzball is not the only site to succumb to the lure of easy
advertising bucks .
here’s one that Ray Flowers is promoting on his site .
the gambling company’s name is The Daily Joust :
“The $500 King Richard Survivor Tourney is on Fridays. The tournament includes 32 participants on Day 1. Then it’s paired down to 16 on Day 2, eight on Day 3 etc. Basically, the players in the top half each day move on to the next day. The winner end ups with $195, on just a $20 entry fee, and the winner is also added into the MLB Super Joust III tournament in September! Super Joust II is April 18th and has $10,000 in prizes up for grabs. If that wasn’t enough of a reason to get excited, maybe the two tickets that the winner gets to the NBA Finals will help get your blood pumping.”
for those (like Grey) who might need help with the math ,
the site is paying back $195 out of every $640 taken in !!
suggestion ==> drive to new hampshire and buy “scratch tickets” .
at least , those proceeds go to support the public school system .
cust disapppointed .
Jansen just delayed his ascendance to the closer throne by a while… walked Denorfia and gave up a HR to Headley. Yes, that Headley. Yes, the one who hit 4 HR last year.
Blech…
Logan Morrison, Josh Willingham, or Alejandro De Anaz…. You gotta to kill one, sleep with one, and pick up one to fill in for felatio and Crawford while they wallow on the disgraceful list.
Also, how much are mustache rides? Is the discounts for members or repeat customers?
Two-fifty… Morrison, Josh, De Aza…
FUCK YOU JANSEN. I own you for ratios and your eventual closer job and you blow up twice against the Padres, one being a SAVE CHANCE?! god dammit
hey grey,
wadda ya say about millwood as a streamer for next week?
goin against cle and chi.
– gb
It’s a’ight…
I’ll take a blown save for Jansen when the Pad’s bullpen implodes for 4 straight walks (none of which involves Huston Street, whom I also own) and gets a W instead of an L. 18.00/4.00/3 doesn’t look too shabby when Beckett and Kuroda combine to give up one run and 10 hits in 16 innings.
Ellsbury owner Smh…..Which 2 would you guys pick up
De Aza
Presley
Lahair
Boesch
Brantley
Bourjos
Fowler
Span
Delmon
Williamham
How funny is this( true story) as I am anxiously trying to Google updates on Ells injury on my walk home I pass the cemetary I do everyday. As I keep walking I run into an unscratch copy of Jada Kiss “Kiss of death” album. I’m just like are they trying to tell me something on Friday the 13th about Ells??!! Anyways great album and it plays like new
Nice… Bourjos, Boesch…
Re: Ogando getting the save over Nathan tonight, from the CBS game recap:
“[Nathan] he had thrown in five of six days, including a warmup, before getting Thursday off, so Washington decided to give him one more day of rest. “There’s nothing wrong with Joe,” Washington said. “He’s ready to go. I’ll give him the ball tomorrow.””
Geez, that’s ridiculous…
Start Minor in a 12 team 5×5 rotisserie? (1600 inning cap)
How about Marcum?
Start both…
Man I Davis is just brutal so far. No way am I dropping him in my H2H league (deep 16 teamer), but would you play any of these schmohawks over him for now:
Hannahan, Robot Jones, I Stewart.
@TheNewGuy, Stewart
Neiuwenhuis or Reimold?
@ruah, Neiwenhuis
Hey Grey, Niese, Lynn, Sale or Worley?
@Moscowitz, i have to modify my question. I own Sale and Worley. Do you think i can drop one these guys for either Niese, Lynn or Peavy? I am thinking middle to long term because i only have 40 moves left until the end of the season so if there is no need to change anything, i would opt to stay put.
Thanks
@Moscowitz, Hold
Grey is the old Peavy back? Pretty damn good start considering the lineups he’s faced so far- see he’s on waivers in my league, worth my no7 claim or should he clear them? Have good starters already in this league (10 teamer) but as they say you can never have enough pitching.
@TheNewGuy, Yeah, I’d claim him…
in 10 team mix roto and Neil Walker 2b/ss just fucking blows, is barney, andino, or Lowrie with a WW pick up just to plug in for a while til walker heats up.
@jerky, Barney in April…
I think I asked about him the other day, but after yesterday’s performance, would you pick up Beckett with this rotation:
SP – Doc
SP – Lester
SP – MadBum
RP – Marmol
RP – Hanrahan
P – Marshall
P – Balfour
P – Hellickson
BN – Scherzer
BN – Luebke
BN – Sale
BN – Volquez
ALSO – would you make a claim on Corey Hart if the bottom of your lineup looked like this:
UTIL – Boneface
UTIL – Pena
BN – Ichiro
DL – BJ
Stats: H, R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBPS, W, L, SV, Ks, ERA, Whip, Ks/9
@Wilsonian, Hart over Ichiro… beckett over Volquez…
@Grey, thanks. Why the change? Think Becks could actually show he isn’t a huge vagina and be a worthwhile SP this season?
@Wilsonian, He’s better than Volquez…
@Grey, fair enough. Made the move. Putting in a claim for Hart, too. Thanks for the advice, as usual.
@Wilsonian, No problem…
Grey or Rudy,
Would you drop Rasmus for J.D Martinez? Part of me wants to give Rasmus a little more time.
@Suck My Wieters, Nope
Much like Wilsonian, my team has several HR hitters, yet not a single one and it’s Saturday.
Got Votto, CarGo, Lind, Zimmerman and Hanley.
Somehow my opponent has eight and I’m only down one RBI and run.
I should rename my team the James Loneys.
@Eddy, Haha…what’s up with the power outage? Kemp finally went deep for me last night. But I’m still getting killed. Unfortunately I’m not James Loney-ing it and I’m getting killed in RBI, too.
@Eddy, Ha!
Who can give me an explanation on why to start Chacin vs Arizona. I’m really having trouble deciding.
@Tggq21, Considering Grey said to drop him the other day, I don’t think you’ll be getting that explanation from him. I don’t have one, either.
@Awesomus Maximus, I don’t recall Grey saying to drop him. when was this????
@Tggq21,
Jhoulys Chacin – 4 IP, 4 ER, 9 baserunners, 3 Ks. Worst thing you can do is overreact early on to one start or a few oh-fer’s. With that said, Yo-Lease is a mess. His velocity’s down, his walks are up, he’s probably dealing with an injury…. It’s what got Khalil Greene in the end, the Silent H is too much of a burden! Yo-lease is up, move out! — This means Drop?? I’m holding for now but I’m going to have a hard time dropping this dude after a couple bad starts.
@Tggq21, He was awful the other day but his numbers against Arizona are very good.
F-Her and J-Z… FTND!
I now have six QS from my starters, and the only Ws are from F-Her (in his non-QS) and Thornton.
This message has been paid for by “The Committee To Replace W With QS In All Leagues Starting Now… Yeah, Right Now.”
@Awesomus Maximus, It’s a good committee… I’d vote for that…
@Grey, I didn’t know who you were talking about the other day (Sean from Survivor 1st season) and didn’t have time to look it up, but then I realized last night that he’s (I think) the guy who voted in alphabetical order, right? It’d be funny to see that first season’s jury play against some new people… they’d get housed.
@Awesomus Maximus, Yeah, he was that guy and Leif seems totally off base on every vote like no one tells him anything.
@Grey, Maybe Leif is relying on Tarzan to tell him, but that whack job can’t remember anyone’s name.
Aside from Clay the smelly bigot (who the softcore porn actor, used car salesman, dog killer Brian took to the finals), is there a better person to bring to end with you than Tarzan? Nobody likes him, at all… and there’s no chance he can even form a coherent train of thought to convince any jury member to vote for him. I’d make sure he and his skid marked undies were right next to me at the final vote.
@Awesomus Maximus, Agreed, but I don’t think Tarzan gets that far. Though I was surprised to see he voted for Jay too. Not sure what he’s thinking either. Right now, it looks like y girl is gonna be a well-liked 4th place.
@Grey, Yeah, Tarzan won’t make it that far. No savvy girl will align with him for fear that he’ll blab about the plan, and rightfully so.
Not sure what that last sentence meant.
Dropped an ‘m’… Was saying my girl (Chelsea) looks like she’s gonna be a well-liked 4th place finisher…
@Grey, Ah… was she your pick way back when? I remember I picked Jonas (and I’m still confused as to why he was booted), but I don’t remember whom you picked.
I think she’s in a very good position right now. She’s still likable, but not necessarily a threat. Kim(?) is becoming an obvious threat both in the physical and strategic game, so Chelsea has a shot at being just under Kim’s radar blip long enough to get that last alliance push into the finals.
Hey Grey,
Still working on this trade in my 12 team keeper league (I wont post the entire roster again but I have speed to burn, decent power and no average), what do you think of this trade?
My Dee Gordon and Giancarlo Stanton (hate to move him in a keeper but the knee worries me)
For his Jose Bautista, Elvin Andrus, Drew Stubbs
I know Stubbs aint doing me any favors in BA, but I am liking this trade, as it will allow me to start Bautista at 3rd and HanRam at SS. Your thoughts?
@TualatinTwoStep, I’m not Grey, but on the surface I like it. Would be tough to lose Stanton in a keeper, but you’re getting a good return.
@Wilsonian, Thanks man I appreciate it.
@TualatinTwoStep, No problem. Others may disagree. But I like Elvis over Gordon. And then Joey Bats and Stubbs for Stanton seems pretty fair to me.
@TualatinTwoStep, I wouldn’t move Stanton and Gordon in a keeper.
Phillips, Rolen, Trumbo, Gardner out of the starting lineups today.
@Wilsonian, Thanks for the heads up!
@Grey, no problem. Phillips has been driving me crazy with his old hammies…
Grey: been offered Hamels and Freese for Panda and Rickie Weeks. Id be picking up either Altuve or Seager to be my 2B. My SPs are Lee, Bumg, Darvish, Danks, Norris and Lynn (NOT GOOD so far). What do you think? How much worse than Panda is Freese?
@Joel, Not good…
@Grey, a follow up: offer now is Hamels for Darvish and Victorino. I have cargo, ethier, wells and bourgos, Fowler is on the wire — i’m thinkin do this, right? Hamels is the major stud in this deal, and darvish looks pretty dicey…
@joel, Okay…
Is this trade too good to be true – keeper league

Comments from Dr. Van Nostrand:
You’re at least a year away from competing and you don’t consider adding a potential top 10 player + a couple up-and-comers for a couple rookies, albeit very good rookies, appealing? Ellsbury is better than either of those two guys ever will be, and Pomeranz is no slouch either. If Jacoby were healthy, I’d never make this offer and you’d never reject it. Next year, or even a couple months from now, you’ll have a legit top 10-15 player. That won’t be the case if you reject.
@Mr Baseball, Why isn’t Moore and Montero also good keepers?
You know the deal Grey – there is always much more manlove for the players you own so Jacobly Elisbury is a 6 tool player to his owners
@Mr Baseball, Yeah, exactly…
David Freese scratched with finger irritation.
This is news? Whenever MY finger is irritating me, I scratch it too.
@Eddy, Hehe
Grey, Rasmus or Gaby Sanchez? I need OF and i have enough 1B men. The other options are LaHair and Juan Rivera. I have to think middle to long term due to limited number of moves until the end of the season.
Thanks
@Moscowitz, Rasmus
Grey, would you trade Axford for Hart?
Thanks
@Moscowitz, It’s okay…
@ Grey :
so , for the 1st time in my life , i drafted 3bman zimmerman .
the minute that i drafted him , i regretted not taking lawrie , instead ,
but it was the 3rd round , and i was drafting out of the 5th spot .
i think that i may be eating sour grapes all season long .
anywho , when do you expect zimmerman to go on the dl ?
before all-star break ??
@chata, Hopefully he won’t…
@chata, I got R-Zimm too, actually in a trade for Morse straight after the draft (needed a 3Bman)
Luckily Morse has gone down, but im still not sold on Zimmerman. Not shown any power yet, and he does have a reputation for being a bit fragile…really need him to hit on my team.
BREAKING NEWS: Wright in the lineup today.
@Wilsonian, Wow, that’s kinda surprising… Don’t think he’s out of the woods yet…
@Grey, nope, I read he’s still hurting, but he looked good in the cages. Think he gets days off here and there, or hurts it severely and hits the DL.
@Wilsonian, Gotta keep an eye on him. I have a waiver claim in on Turner…
@3FingersBrown, As soon as I clicked submit, I noticed Wright hit a HR… and my opponent got him in the lineup.
When is Dexter Fowler going to get some love in these parts?
@genghis chone, Huh?
BREAKING NEWS (again): JohnCarl is not in the lineup today.
@Wilsonian, Ugh… I smell a major bust season coming for JohnCarlo…
@Grey, yeah, me too. I smell 18 HRs, which smells like shizz.
@Wilsonian, Damn, i smell the same shizz from Stanton as you guys. Now im regretting picking him over McCutcheon and Hamilton. Those potential 40 homers was just too damn sexy to pass up. Hopefully he atleast contributes decently. Lets go Stanton!!!
Think Lind’s back is bothering him? He hasn’t done anything this season yet. No pop at all. I really liked him preseason, but not if he’s going to be having this lingering back issue.
@Wilsonian, Yeah, not great…
@Grey, that’s my only take on it, at least. Gotta be the back. I know how those things are, they don’t go away until you really get it fixed.
Howie Kendrick sighting today…
Get Darvish outta there…jeezus.
Cursing the fact I chose to draft him over Beachy…I really thought this kid would be the real deal.
@TheNewGuy, Am I missing something? He gave up one run…
@Grey, two runs, and his whip was over 2. Very hittable and walked 4…not good.
Would you offer your Boesch for his Stubbs?
@Eng, Yup
Grey:
If you had to choose one, would you take LaRoche or Maritnez?
It would be as second DH so position is irrelevant.
Thanks.
@Carlos, JD
NL Only 4×4
SP- Gio Gonzalez, Latos, A.Sanchez, Chacin, Leake, Niese
RP-Cashner, Brothers, Storen.
Our first pickup is this Sunday.. and I need to replace Storen.. I didn’t consider Casilla before.. do I go after a reliever or punt saves for now and get a starter.. Since I may not get my first choice.. how would you rank..
Casilla, KWood, Dolis or JoeWieland, Detwiler, Naverson
@elwood blues, i should mention we can’t just pick up and drop players at will. Only if they’re traded (by us or real teams), injured, sent down, or if someone else comes off the dl.
Narveson, Weiland…
Bases loaded; 2 out; Bautista up; Lawrie out stealing home.
@VinWins, Ha just saw that too. Pretty stupid idea with joey at the plate…liked the idea for my fantasy team though I guess ha.
@VinWins, #yabuddy!
#nobuddy
@Grey: How’s it going Grey? First post of the season, but long time Razzballer (LOVE your Blog, follow it for all fantasy needs)…hate to be that guy who posts his team but I neeeeeeed HELP! In 8th place of 10 in an ESPN Roto league:
C-Ramos
1B-Hosmer
2B-Infante
SS-Peralta
3B-Longoria
2B/SS-J. Weeks
1B/3B- A Rod
OF (5 starters)- J Upton, Holliday, Gordon, Prado, Austin Jackson
Util- J Montero (to get C eligibilty, then I drop Ramos for someone)
Bench & DL- Espinosa & Morse
9 Pitching Spots: Weaver, Hellickson, Jimenez, Beckett, Kuroda, Billingsley, J Johnson
RP- Bell, Marshall, Rodney
Ok so here is the waivers, let me know if you would drop anyone on my team for any of these guys, looking to make major moves as I’m in 8/10
Hitting: JD Martinez, Cozart, Boesch, Arencibia, LaRoche, Schafer, Fowler, I Stewart, Nieuwenhuis, Thole, Turner
Starters: Colon, Harrison, Zito, Dickey, Vargas, Peavy, Niese, Gee
Relievers: Samardzija, Santiago, Lidge
Thanks! Cozart over Peralta… Boesch over Prado…
Samardzija over Wandy…
@Grey, Thank you, sir!
@Grey: Forgot, I also own Wandy Rodriguez, which is important because he is my worst pitcher (along with JJ) and would probably drop him/Billingsley/Josh Johnson if you like any of the waiver wire pitchers…
My worst categories right now are RBIs, Average & Ks
Jesus. Any chance Bruce can do something this week? And why can’t I sit/start LaRoche and Youk on the right days?
Henderson Alvarez dropped in my 12 team H2H league. Any place for him in this rotation?
Bum
Hudson
Zimm
Chacin
Cahill
Peav
Dirty Sanchez
McCarthy
Nolasco (streamer)
@Steve, Personally, I would drop Chacin. I just don’t trust him and Alvarez has nice upside. I’m no Grey but that’s my opinion.
Over Nolasco…
Seeing as how some owners in my leagues are already starting to panic, I was just thinking about some early season buy lows – BJ Upton, R. Zimm, Lawrie, Napoli, Grienke, Price, Haren are some guys that I might look to acquire at a discount. I always look at the semi-elite types that start out slowly that I can pry away from a panicking owner at 80 cents on the dollar or better. Any other intriguing buy-lows out there?
@Big Magoo, Have to add Hanley to that too (im an owner, getting kinda worried already).
@TheNewGuy, Yeah, I own Hanley in one of my money leagues and I’m a little worried already (work ethic, crayola canyon). I don’t think he’d be available at enough of a discount for me to pounce either. The only “elite” buy low I’m currently interested in is J-Up, and I’ll probably wait another week or two to sniff around there.
@Big Magoo, 3-4 last night with a steal + CS, just missed a jack that would’ve been out in most parks too apparently argh…At least he’s starting to show signs, Crayola canyon could turn out to be brutal for Marlins power numbers though, still 0 HRs hit there so far. Im seriously considering shopping him if I can get a decent return, I think he can rebound but Im just not sure about the power there in that cavern. Think ill wait till he racks up a few more hits though.
Luebke, Latos…
@Grey, I’m interested in Latos at the right price but I’m not sold on Luebke. Don’t get me wrong – I love me some hodgepadres – but he’s a little inconsistent for my liking and you basically need to be lights-out with that lineup supporting you. Salfino actually had a useful article a week or two ago highlighting how each opposing team’s #3 hitter crushes him (a little random, I know) which tells me that he’s nothing special outside of Petco.
@Big Magoo, Salfino is the biggest joke of an “analyst I’ve ever seen. Truly awful, I rarely give the fantasy ‘perts a hard time as much as I disagree with a lot they write.
@Eng, I agree with you, that’s why I qualified my comment with “actually.” It’s the one useful article that I’ve read from him.
This’ll be the test for Hell-boy today, so far 2 HRs allowed in 3 innings.
@TheNewGuy, Test failed…dammit.
Grey-
Pick 3 out of following-
Marmol
Broxton
Capps
Myers
Thanks
Not Capps…
@Grey,
Sergio Romo worth owning over Broxton or Myers?
@Steven, Nah
“Santiago Casilla – I just went over him and Romo this morning. Try the scroll, player.”
I think my scroll might be broken, cause for the life of me I can’t find where you go over these two guys. Which article is that in?
In Brian Wilson’s blurb in the morning post…
JP Arencibia looks terrible. Having hard time Popeiling. When do I dump him for AJ Pierz?
Can now if you like…
I’ve got a feeling I’m gonna have a cold team/hot team this year. They either suck together or look like HOFers together.
henderson alvarez throws a legitimate QS (7 innings) , but thanks to
home-plate ump darryl cousins and toronto reliever casey janssen (who
owns him ? that kiwi fella ??) ends up with a no-decision .
And I know you don’t like Hellickson, but you obviously told me Beckett over Volquez. Woils you lose Hellickson for Volquez, Niese, Worley, Norris, and the like?
@Wilsonian, Damn phone…”woils” = “would”
@Wilsonian, I’d hold…
@Grey, thanks. I’ll try to stick it out. Just wondering your thoughts on it, if you don’t mind. You obviously don’t like Hellickson, so why would you stick with him for now?
@Wilsonian, If he goes good, he’s worth more on the market… If this is the 8 team league, you can switch it up since he probably won’t be worth anything…
@Grey, kinda what I assumed. Thanks for the followup. It is my 8 teamer, definitely wouldn’t lose him in my 16 teamer yet (still hanging onto Chacin and Filthy there, just in case). That’s what makes add/drops so difficult. People don’t like to deal, unless keepers are involved, and most guys make it through waivers (picked up Beckett after he cleared). So drops usually aren’t the end of the world in this league. Someone may snag him on waivers, but he may also clear. I’m just trying to get the best overall team on paper and I’m not sure he is the answer with his propensity to blow up like he did today with no Ks. If you think it would be wise to just hang on to him for a few more starts, I’m sticking with him.
If you have to choose between Chacin and Sanchez to start today, has to be Sanchez, right?
Chacin’s numbers v Arizona are awfully good, though…
@Steve, I’d start Sanchez…
Would you drop Lind for laroche? Both would be temps until Howard is back
@John, No, not unless you’re in an 8 team league. It’s week 2.
@ Grey :
i suspect that you don’t “scroll back” , so i’ll re-post my reply ” :

@Grey,
Razzball is not the only site to succumb to the lure of easy
advertising bucks .
here’s one that Ray Flowers is promoting on his site .
the gambling company’s name is The Daily Joust :
@chata, actually, they pay out $500 in the $500 Tourney. 1st place is $195.
@VinWins,
well then , go for it !
win lots of money .
maybe you can do like Ray (Flowers) and post articles
about which players that you’d gamble on .
@chata, I don’t do anything for money. The only luxury I was interested in saving for when I was working was not having to work.
Grey-
Any room for for Pineda (to stash on DL till he comes back),Buchholz,Peavy,Big Z in this rotation-
Jon Lester
Madison Bumgarner
Gio Gonzalez
Shaun Marcum
Trevor Cahill
Colby Lewis
Thanks
@Steven, Nope
Effing Sanchez. Useless bastard.
@Steve, Damn, sorry…
@Grey, What? You logged in to my team and started him? I keed. Was going to start him anyway, was more looking for confirmation not to stay Chacin. Bu after that filth from Sanchez, I decided to start him anyway. Working out so far…
Drop Lidge for Sergio Romo?
@Miguelito, Eh
Wow Filthy Sanchez is a joke. That was a short romance. Good riddance.
@Nuke LaDouche, Ha
Indians/Royals game is going to turn into a brawl…benches have already cleared twice after HBP’s. Indians went nuts after Choo was plunked and then Gomez hit Moustakes in the back and got tossed. Hanahan looked like he wanted to kill someone during both scrums that ensued.
@letsgobravos, Aw, man, I’m missing it…
First FBB error attributable to fatherhood- my efforts to pick up Casilla were interrupted by a (very necessary) diaper change. Three or so minutes later and he was gone. Now I know what people meant when they said this was going to change my life…
@royce!, That’s so unfair.
@Schmohawks Bob, I know. My kid’s going to have to become president to make up for this!
@royce!, You really want your kid to have that crummy job?
@Schmohawks Bob, Damn, good point. I’ll just have to forgive her then.
@royce!, my wife is pregnant and due in November…one of my first worries was: “How will this affect my fantasy teams?” You’re not helping my fears!
@Wilsonian, Nice to get the hardest part over with in the off-season- well planned!
And congrats!
@royce!, Haha…it will interfere with my fantasy football season, but I guess I’ll get by. Ha! Should be well versed in the art of diaper changing by the time baseball comes around, so hopefully I don’t miss out on possible closers due to poop!!
And thanks!! Congrats to you too!
@royce!, I had Casilla yesterday and dropped him for Lynn… Rudy got Casilla today… Dah!
Which Santiago…Hector or Casilla? Would you drop Hector for Casilla?
@B.o.B, Keep Hector, he’s already getting saves, and Casilla may end up in a committee shituation.
@royce!, I ask because of Grey’s thinking that Hector will be out of the closer role within a month
Jesus, will these closer by committees end already!
Hearing several things, Grey.
You have one move and one move only.
Romo or Casilla?
@Eddy, Casilla
@Grey, Would you drop HRod and Lidge for Casilla and Romo?
@Eddy, Nope
Another good start for Rasmus, for those of you scoring at home.
@Wilsonian, Nice…
@Grey, glad I hung onto him for now in my 16 teamer…if nothing else, to play off this and try to deal him.
@Wilsonian, Glad I picked him up when I saw another owner with early season A.D.D.
Also,
J.P Arencibia or Chris Iannetta?
@Eddy, OBP, not AVG
@Eddy, Coin flip… Arencibia…
Hallelujah Jesus gets the start tonight at catcher and comes up with a solo homer in his first AB tonight…
@letsgobravos, Sweet Baby Jesus…
Chacin has been a little shaky at times, but he’s through 4, allowing 4 hits, 1 ER, 3 BBs w/ 5ks. Does this make you any less pessimistic on him, grey?
@letsgobravos, 4 IP doesn’t exactly instill that much confidence…
@Grey, It was rain shortened, but I guess you know that by now. With that in mind, do you feel any better about him in light of being able to pitch semi-competently for the first 4 innings? He threw 64 pitches to get through 4 so he had a good shot to go 6 if the rain had held off.
@letsgobravos, 7 baserunners in 4 IP isn’t good.
Stanton and Lincecum for Kemp. Who wins?
@Derrick, With all the issues Stanton and Linc are having early this year, Kemp sounds good to me.
@letsgobravos, Definition of 2 buy low guys there. Man its a toughie…getting Stanton and Linc is damn appealing but yeah I guess they are both having issues so id probably take the sure fire option in Kemp. If Stanton’s ok and Linc’s back to his old self though, then that side could be the clear winner.
No! What’s happening in Coors? Is it raining?
@Steve, It’s pouring. I was just watching the game. Gonna ruin Chacin’s start.
@Wilsonian, Wonder if Moyer’s snoring.
@royce!, Well played, sir…
@Grey: 12 team mixed roto, my lidge/cespeses for anibal/boesch?
@Herschel, Anibal side
My team has 3 whole homeruns now this week. Each one from Kemp. Sure glad I have that guy, at least.
@Wilsonian, I have 2 HR combined in my 2 main, big money leagues…and they’re from Elvis f’ing Andrus and Howie f’ing Kendrick
These are 2 teams that consist of Prince, Uggla, Braun, Aramis, Lind, Votto, Longoria, McCutchen
@B.o.B, Same kinda boat. It’s a money league. Team has Prince, Longo, Tulo, JUp, Bruce, and Kemp is the only one to provide anything. No wonder I’m losing 11-3 this week.
Grey,
What do you think of my team (we draft 1 week into season). 12-team, NL-only, 4X4 (AVG/HR/RBI/SB, W/ERA/WHIP/S), $280 cap, Keeper, no bench, no max inning limit:
C – Nick Hundley
C- Jesus Flores
1B – Joey Votto
2B – Jed Lowrie
3B – David Wright
SS – Hanley Ramirez
MI – Willie Harris
CI – Lyle Overbay
OF – Hunter Pence
OF – Alex Presley
OF – Kirk Nieuwenhuis
OF – Scott Hairston
OF – Rick Ankiel
UT – Roger Bernadina
UT – Matt Carpenter
P – Brandon Beachy
P – Juan Nicasio
P – Jeff Samardzjia
P – Cory Luebke
P – Tim Stauffer
P – Clayton Richard
P – Aaron Harang
P – J.J. Putz
P – Javy Guerra
P – Santiago Casilla
@Brent, I think your pitching could have issues, though I like most of the guys you have… Your hitting looks good for the most part, the OF is a little wonky…
Anyways, what’s up with FDLS?
He pitched one inning on April 6 and never appeared again.
@Eddy, All you had to do was ask!
@royce!, Sweet!
Grey, 12 team keeper league – accept his Reyes for my Castro? I’m thinking yes…
@Bill Lumbergh, Yup
None of Chacin’s stats will count, will they?
@Steve, Well maybe they will. Man, no effing luck this week. Hochevar, Hudson, Sanchez and now this. And I’m facing Kemp…
@Steve, Ah… Was Chacin’s start shortened b/c of rain? Just got in…
@Grey, Yes and I’m most put out, about it.
@Grey, It was the tears of the fantasy owners that was to blame here
@Mr Baseball, Ha!
Votto/Bruce for Wright/Reyes? Which side would you rather have in a vacuum?
@Sam, Votto
In a 12 team H2H league with OBP instead of AVG, pick two outfielders:
Presley
Reimold
Cody Ross
Sweeney
@SwaggerJackers, Presley, Sweeney…
Grey, can you pick two of these for tomorrow please? None of them are good…
Drabek v BAL
Porcello @ CWS
Godfrey @ SEA
Pelfrey @ PHI
Thanks…
@Steve, Ugh… Godfrey, Drabek…
@Grey, Tell me about it. The only guy on my roster that is starting tomorrow is Cahill. Double ugh.
resop is a poser .
Standard 5×5, 10 team H2H league, here’s my staff…
SP – Cliff Lee
SP – Gio Gonzalez
SP – Matt Garza
SP – Jordan Zimmermann
SP – Ubaldo Jimenez
SP – Trevor Cahill
SP – Chris Sale
SP – Lance Lynn
SP – Tommy Milone
RP – Carlos Marmol
RP – Frank Francisco
RP – Hector Santiago
Would you make a move for Casilla? If so, who?
@Raja, Milone.
The trade offer from way back up the post has reared its head again. To recap:
My Cahill for his Hardy.
I currently have Boneface at SS so if I took it, I would either:
Have to shift Boneface to the bench, to be used when steals needed I suppose…
or to CF (where I have Rios currently and I have nowhere else to put him) in order to fit Hardy in at SS. Boneface as an OF just doesn’t feel right. Rios needs more than 2 weeks to show his stuff, no?
Cahill is at the arse end of my slightly ragged rotation. More power is always good, but not really feeling it.
What say you?
@Steve, So isn’t it basically a choice between Hardy and Rios (as it’s Rios who is most likely displaced if I take Hardy)?
To Razzball’s way of thinking, Rios should hit as many home runs, steal more bases and hit for better average…
@Steve,
here’s my 3 cents :
1) hardy swings harder than rios
2) as it is now , are you taking advantage of bonifacio’s multi-eligibility ?
3) is cahill an every start pitcher , or a match-up guy ?
@Steve, OK – maybe a few less HRs for Rios but a lot more SBs.
Friggin hell, just heard the news about Wilson, the same guys beaten me to the next in line guy Casilla YET AGAIN (and Romo already owned)… dude must sleep next to his computer or something.
What about Bell then, another ugly outing last night. Who’s the next in line if there’s a change there, Mujica? Worth an add dropping a bench bat in R Roberts?
@TheNewGuy, I told you a day before it was announced… You had time to pick up Casilla.
@Grey, My bad musta missed it. Would you speculate on Mujica/Cishek?
Bell aint looked good so far…
Sure… Mujica…
Grey-
A frustrated owner just dropped Jhoulys Chacin. Is he worth owning over Trevor Cahill or Colby Lewis?
Thanks
@Steven, No
Say you had to pick up one (and you had 4, albeit, shitty closers), who you pickin’ up?
Myers
Lidge
HankRod
Chapman
W, L, SV, Ks, ERA, Whip, Ks/9
@Wilsonian, Myers
Would you read anything into big head bochy’s use of the bullpen last night as pointing to romo as the closer?
@Schlitzy, They probably all get chances…
@Schlitzy, At least early…
Hey Grey, David Murphy, Reimold, LaHair or Wells. I tend to go with Reimold.
Thanks
@Moscowitz, Sure…
hey grey…
can you rank these guys in a keeper league?
starlin, bautista, heyward, mattmoore?
thanks
@the grate one, Bautista, Starlin, Moore
rank these pitchers please:
lynn, sale, worley
@paulzone, I would say you already ranked them. The only thing is, that i am not sure how long this Lynn guy would stick around once Carpenter gets back. Stuff wise Sale is the best but i think as a converted reliever he will have to deal with some limitations regarding the IP. Worley, well, i dont know what to say, i own him but i somehow dont know if the poor outing against the Mets was a fluke or a trend for his future outings.
@Moscowitz, basically i am considering dropping worley for lynn…i own worley and owned him last year. he’s been solid but i am concerned more with his offense…tough call…gray? drop worley for lynn?
Drop in my league – not happy about it
STERM CELL REBIRTH – WHAT IS UP HERE MAN
MR BASEBALL
I could care less how you manage your team but this is just insane in the membrane –
INSANE IN THE BRAIN
Nick Masset – (Cin – RP ) IS ON YOUR DL WHO YOU SPENT $1 AT THE DRAFT —– NOTE – Only 1% owned in yahoo leagues
Jacoby Ellsbury – you spent $47 on him at the auction draft man and he still owned in 98% of yahoo leagues – YOUR DROP FOR BLAKE BEAVAN
Apr 15 5:32am
Blake Beavan (Sea – SP)
Add
Free Agents
Stem Cell Rebirth
Kamikaze Kydd
Jacoby EllsburyDL (Bos – OF)
Drop
Stem Cell Rebirth
@Mr Baseball, this is the down fall of an auction draft – everyone has to be present at the draft and it takes 4 hours to do with a 16 team league – 2 days before I lost 5 good players and it was tough to replace them so one of the replacement teams who did have a good draft made this move here – yes it allowed but I set up the league this way so if you get a season ending injury you did not have to wait for yahoo to place that player on the league drop list – not for a player that is one of the best in the game that is out for 6-8 weeks when I have 2 DL spots in this league so you can pick up Blake Beavan and keep Nick Masset on your DL list
@Mr Baseball,
now , you know who you are playing against .
@Mr Baseball, Your leaguemates are a little crazy…
do we really expect marshall to hold off chapman as the reds closer?
@paulzone, i hope so. I own Marshall but not Chapman :)
@Moscowitz, i have marshall too…but i am trying to find a reason to drop one of my rp’s…haha. i want to add some players…rp’s are marshall, balfour, street…and i can’t carry them all in this very shallow bench league that i am in…especially since i have montero just eating up time on the bench until he gets his C eligibility.
Grey —
5×5 12 team league, with no bench… I have hill in MI spot and was able to pick up Kipnis this week. I have Coco Crisp as one of my 2 Utility spots…
Which of these options do you like best?
1) Drop Hill, keep Kipnis as MI, Crisp as U
2) Drop Crisp, Keep Hill as MI, make kipnis my U
3) Keep Hill as MI, Crisp as U, drop kipnis
@mikeE, There’s no clear cut guy… They’ve all been terrible… Hill and Kipnis over Crisp unless you need steals…
Thoughts on Belt and Trumbo in a dynasty?
@Peons, They need everyday PT.
Grey: for the rest of the season, in h2h, would u rather have Hamels or Sabathia?
Toss up… CC…
Keep the faith with Mark Reynolds or drop him for the hot Edwin Encarnacion? (10 team, roto)
Hold…
Lose Arencibia for Pierzynski?
Not crazy about it, but it could work out for you for a week or so…
@Grey- I lost the beard. Just traded Stanton & C. Lee for McCutch, Lincecum, and Betancourt. 5×5 QS instead of wins, you like?
Looks solid…
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKKKKKKKKKKKE!
finallyyyyyyyyyyyy…
@Simply Fred, About time Ike!
YA BUDDY!!!
Grey: I’m going to trade Rickie weeks and victorino for Kipnis and one of 3 SPS: Cain, who’s a 1 year keeper, Sabathia, or hamels (the last 2 can’t be kept). Should I take sabathia, hamels, or cain the one year keeper? THANKS!
CC…
I have Schierholtz & V Wells
Do you like C Ross and/or Scott over them?
Both over them…
@Grey, Nice, thought so. I grabbed Ross for Schierholtz for now.
For a 12 teamer, it seems like there is a bit of talent available.
Available: Scott, Chipper(good when healthy), I Davis(comes off waivers tonight)
On my team: Reimold, D Murphy, V Wells..
I am dumping B Wilson for one of them after today’s news and I am definitely putting in a claim for Ike. Grab Scott or Chipper for any I already have?
Scott…
@Grey, I’m guessing for Wells?
@ruah, Yup
should I trade Bob Wickman for Jeff Shaw?
Say, when people ask what you do, do you say “I satisfy the online fantasy needs of young men?”
Ha…
Grey – would you mind chiming in at comment 180 please?
Could you copy it, cause on my phone…
My Cahill for his Hardy.
I currently have Boneface at SS so if I took it, I would either:
Have to shift Boneface to the bench, to be used when steals needed I suppose…
or to CF (where I have Rios currently and I have nowhere else to put him) in order to fit Hardy in at SS. Boneface as an OF just doesn’t feel right. Rios needs more than 2 weeks to show his stuff, no?
Cahill is at the arse end of my slightly ragged rotation. More power is always good, but not really feeling it.
So isn’t it basically a choice between Hardy and Rios (as it’s Rios who is most likely displaced if I take Hardy)?
@Steve, It’s fair… I think Rios is gonna end up having more value, but it’s hard to play him right now… On the other hand, Cahill’s a piece that any staff should be able to give able… Sorry about the delay, was at a rap music video shoot… Hehe…
@Grey, Keepin it real, yo?
Does Cahill’s performance today change anything? That is, does he now look like a piece worth hanging on to?
Also, if I do trade for Hardy, it kinda means an OF of Car-Go/Boneface/Bruce (with Rios lurking). In a 3-OF league, that feels kinda limp.
Or am I over-thinking? Maybe I’m resistant because the other guy couldn’t stop telling me how great Hardy was – yet he has him on his bench…
@Steve, Cahill’s a back of the fantasy rotation guy, he’s never going to be an ace… Hardy for Cahill is fair… Don’t think it is really going to be the answer to anything…
@Grey, Yeah, I guess that’s where I’m at. Not doubting it’s fair, but don’t really think it helps me all that much either.
@Grey, OK, a slightly different tack. Who would you grab to fill in for Rios during these lean times:
LaHair
Jay
Wells
Sweeney
Schierholtz
Thames
Rasmus (drafted then dropped him…)
We count OBP as well as AVE.
Thanks!
Rasmus…
@Grey, Oops. Cut off the @Grey. Anyhow, see above…
Who do you think is this year’s Mike Morse? I’m starting to lean JD Martinez. Checked out his minor league stats, he can obviously hit. Looks like someone who could hit over .300 with 20+ hrs and 80+ RBI. I could be way off, but I like what he’s doing now – and yes this is early – but his minor league numbers say he could continue to have a very solid year.
@Wilsonian, Could be… 30+ homers would be huge for him… Probably unreachable…
@Grey, I don’t necessarily think he hits 30. Just someone who kinda comes out of left field, no pun intended, to have a really productive and solid year. Like .300/25/90.
@Wilsonian, I was saying with the Morse comparison for 30 HRs…
@Grey, That’s what I figured. And my comparison was just someone kinda out of nowhere that’s really solid in any format. Speaking of…you got anyone else in mind that might really surprise, now that we’re a week plus in?
@Wilsonian, Hard to say after ten days… People get hot for a few weeks, doesn’t mean they’re going to do it for 5 months+…
@Grey, valid point. Just wondering if someone jumped out at you. Don’t you have some damn Grey/Crystal ball…c’mon?!?!
Bonifacio or Encarnacion at 3b?
12 team points league so there are no team needs like in roto.
Thanks!
@joe from point pleasant, Encarnacion…
That’s what I call a nice day at the Beachy.
@Awesomus Maximus, Ha
Wow…Hanley just crushed one to straight away center at FishCo. Apparently it is possible to hit a homer right at the monstrous sculpture…
@letsgobravos, Nice…
@Grey, Awesome, Han-Rams getting on track now. Wish it hit and destroyed that monstrosity mind.
Loving Krispie Young thus far…slam and legs today, 2/2 w/ 3 RBIs. Gives him 4 homers and 11 RBIs on the year, batting .345+. Crossing my fingers that his retooled swing is for real and this can turn into a legit breakout for him.
@letsgobravos, Yeah, about the only hitter on my RCL team hitting…
Drop Jansen for Scott yeah?
@Balls, Sure…
Cahill looking really solid today…Through 4 with 4ks and 0 ERs…
@letsgobravos, Yeah, not bad…
@letsgobravos, Probably cos Steve’s just traded him (emoticon).
Sean Marshall about to finally get his first save opp. with a 8-5 lead in the 11th…
@letsgobravos, Gave up a couple of hits, but got out of the jam without giving up a run.
Grey, you liking Cahill or Drabek more? Thanks and hope your weekend is going well.
@Eng, Drabek
Casilla over K. Jansen, V. Pestano, or H. Rodriguez in a standard 12-teamer with K/9?
Thanks Grey
@Thrilla, Pestano
3-4 with a steal last night, 4-5 with a jack tonight…Hanleys back peeps!
Damn… sat Cahill and started Volquez. Seemed like the right move at the time.
@Awesomus Maximus, Ouch
Man, Kemp has beaten me pretty much on his own this week.
@Steve, Wish I had him…
@Grey, He’s hit .571 this week, with an OBP of .640. 4 HRs, 7 Rs and 8 RBI.
Sheesh.
@Steve, Yeah, that is better than my entire offense in the RCL…
Grey,
I have H.Santiago, Valverde, Jim Johnson and Brett Myers as my closers in a 12-team H2H league. Also have S. Casilla and HRod and Lidge are in the pool.
I lost Ellsbury and he was my best speed bet, with Hanley, CarGo and Espinosa being the next best in SB.
Does a Valverde for Gardner move make sense?
Worried about Gardners platooning lately?
@Eddy, Yeah, sounds solid…
Uh, why is Betancourt in there? Don’t they know I’m only ahead by .04 in ERA and .01 in WHIP?
@Steve, Ha… Same reason Valverde came in for no reason…
Aviles a lot more valuable atop the lineup? Was thinking about picking him up as a fill in for my 2B, 3B, MI, and CI when they rest. Also, would you suggest dropping Gamel and picking up Laroche?
Lastly – Presley, Schafer, or Reimold for Util/OF?
THanks!
@joe, Yup… LaRoche… Presley…
somebody say sumpin to get espinosa motivated , please .
Grey,
Who do you like best for 2B: Daniel murphy, A Hill, Espinoza or Kipnis?
Thanks!
@Jp, Hill, Espinosa
So how would you put these three guys in order then? Figgins, Kipnis, Hill…
@mikeE, Hill, Kipnis…
The D’backs brought in Shaw to get out of a rocky Rockie situation in the 8th and left him on for the save. Putz blew the save yesterday, but it’s not like he threw a ton of pitches or had thrown on consecutive days. Probably nothing…
What a mess every bullpen is…
@Grey, Yeah, it’s like they have actual bulls in there, goring the rodeo clowns.
Reimold or Mayberry?
@Schmohawks Bob, Reimold
Hey Grey,
Is it time for me to bid adidas to J Sanchez and Chacin? Don’t really want to give up on Chacin yet, but might just be my fondness for shitty pitchers. Do you see him improving? If I let these schmohawks go I’m looking at Schafer, Reimold, Schierholtz, and *gasp* Pierzynski. In that order? Just looking for a little something to hold me over until Votto, Longoria, Stanton, Cruz et al get rolling for me.
@Turk Wendell, Schafer over Chacin…
@Grey, Awesome. Thanks so much.
Watch Kemp kill me again here…
@Steve, Should have pulled out the reverse three days ago.
@Steve, I could do with this game carrying on, and for Kemp to make another out – unlikely though that is…
@Steve, Yeah, what took so long on the reverse?
@Grey, I’d assumed he’d be immune to it.
Am 1RBI and .004AVG behind my oppoent in this first H2H week ending today. Swisher’s my final hope tonight, cmon the Swish-monster!
@TheNewGuy, Fingers crossed, and may the sideburns be with you…
@Grey, Ha it worked! Won the RBI’s cat, just missed out on AVG by .003 so maybe that wasn’t realistic anyway.
Morales still rosterable in a ten team or time to cut bait and look to greener pastures?
@Black Beard, I said to sell him before the season starts… I don’t like the whole Trumbo/Kendrys mess…
The fate of my fantasy week rests in the hands of someone named ‘Howie’…
@Steve, Any chance Aybar gets aboard here to load ’em up for Howie?
@Steve, Bleurgh. No need for that, Ianetta. Leave it for Howie!
@Steve, Aarrrghhhhh! See?
Grey-
I have Bourjos as backup outfielder for Bruce,McCutchen and Werth and someone just dropped Stubbs. Would you use a waiver claim on him even if you own Reynolds and his awful Avg?
Thanks
@Steven, Stubbs over Bourjos…
Would you rather hang on to Pena for utility or drop him for someone like Moose who looks like he’s figuring things out a bit? I like Pena a little, but I don’t trust him to keep it up.
Also looking like Trumbo might be getting more PT and hit another HR tonight.
@Wilsonian, There’s no place for Trumbo to play every day… Pena hasn’t been bad yet…
@Grey, True. I guess I’m also a little worried about having too many Rays. I’ve got Longo and BJ to go along with Pena.
Congrats on all the frickin comments! Wow.
Please pick 2 to start this week:
Kendrys (slumping)
Bourjos
Viciedo
Torii
Too many damn Angels on my team.
Im good on steals right now so I’m leaning viciedo/torii…
@Random Collmenter, Thanks! Viciedo, Bourjos… Yeah, that’s a lot of Angels…
Also, would u start fowler or laroche?
Thanks.
@Random Collmenter, LaRoche…Apples and oranges…
The h2h team I drafted Pujols at #2 overall is going to be 24-4 after two weeks. Never would have guessed that would happen given his slow start.
@letsgobravos, Wow… Rest of the team must be doing well…
@Grey, Yep. Have Kinsler and Chris Young picking up his slack on offense and my pitching staff was really solid this week. Team batted .280 with a .360 OBP and had a 2.40 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP this week. Would still be really nice if Big Albert would get rolling though…
The beard is leaving a hole on my team and I’m strong with sp. 5×5 roto 14 team. I have just been offered Bourjos, Harper, and Capps for Gardner, Masterson, and Ogando. What do you think?
@boomer19, Capps is garbage and Harper’s near useless in a redraft league…
Grey: for a UT bat this week and the near future, can u rank LaHair, Luke Scott and LaRoche off waivers?
@joel, Scott
Would Lind instead of Bourjos be better?
thanks again
Need a hit and an RBI (preferably more) from Howie real bad.
Grey, asked this earlier in the week, but would you still stick with Peralta over Cozart?
@letsgobravos, Probably not…
Scott, Ross, or Jay?
@Tiiiimmmmmberrrrr, Scott
Pujols is killin us. I should have drafted Adam Laroche instead
@Tggq21, C’mon, BnY!
I’m just going to race out and get some T-shirts made that read “Get On Base For Howie!”
@Steve, Come on Howie – drive him in!
@Steve, You’re not going to drive him in with a bunt!
@Steve, Did it work?
I can’t stop laughing at this post on CBS Fantasy. If this dude is for real, I’m emailing him to join that league ASAP…
ajb3313 (April 13, 2012 1:17 pm) : This guy has been a total bust for the first 4% of the season. I’m thinking of cutting him, but I can’t decide who to pick up: Josh Willingham or Carlos Pena. I’m leaning towards Willingham because I already have Adam LaRoche at first and he’s on pace to launch around 80 home runs. Help?
@tggq21, Trololol.
^ Regarding Albert Pujols
12 team, 5×5 roto
1) Drop Heisey for LaHair?
2) Drop Heisey for Reimold?
3) Time to give up on Doumit yet?
4) Time to pick up Trevor Bauer yet?
Thanks dude
@L-Boogie, Forget that. Let me rephrase.
Heisey, LaHair, or Reimold?
@L-Boogie, LaHair
Grey: have JP at catcher, gonna cut him first thing am. Would u pick up Lucroy or Ianetta? THANKS!
@joel, Iannetta
Think Belt’s nice day earns him some more ABs, or was this just a routine day off for Huff? FBB doesn’t just stand for “Fantasy Baseball,” it also stands for “Eff Bruce Bochy!”
@Awesomus Maximus, Ha, nice… I hope so, but not sure…
Man, whatever happened to Soriano. He used to be almost unhittable.
$35 million over three years, is what he’s getting.
Robertson, on the other hand, will be paid 1.6 million this year…
@Steve, And I’m paid 35 cents an hour to make license plates!
@Long Bawls, HA!
Would you drop Markakis or Lind for JD Martinez?
@Raja, also Iannetta or Ramon Hernandez?
@Raja, also II, the return of also, the C will only be temporary until Jesus gets eligibility
@Raja, Iannetta…I wouldn’t drop Markakis…
@Grey, thanks! What about Lind for JD?
@Raja, Iannetta, but remember, karmically you only get to drop/add one catcher.
Shaw?
@Wake Up, Just filled in cause Putz and Hernandez worked on Saturday…
My only bench bat is LoMo, start him over Lind for now in Util?
@Blue, Sure
Man, I hate to sit a guy when it means I won’t have a starter and my opponent has three going, but McCarthy is a sit against the Angels in Anaheim, isn’t he?
His numbers against them are awful.
@Steve, Really? I didn’t look at his numbers, but I’d start him…
Drop Jhoulys for Drabek? Thanks Grey!
@Nuke LaDouche, Yup
With Brian Wilson going down, which one of these guys available on the wire would be the best for saves? Jim Johnson, Hector Santiago, Mike Adams, Balfour, Casilla…
Johnson has four saves on the year, but he plays for the hapless Orioles. Santiago has three and seems not half bad, but is Johnson or are any of the others the better choice for RP?
@Viagra Falls, Santiago…
In one of my 12 teams leagues – I have 3 closers, Axford, H-Rod and Casilla. I currently have C. Davis at 1B with Carp on the DL. Try and trade Axford for Lind?
Ike Davis worth #1 waiver claim? Id be dumping V Wells or David murphy.
Also, Lucroy, Hernandez or Iannetta?
I have an open slot available on one team. The best options are Chipper, Rivera, Jay, Schierholtz and Pierre.
Great… Belt and Trumbo… Only 3 guys on the SELL list and I own 2 of them… It makes me feel better to talk about it.
