It’s just another week for the “Illest Pert In Nebraska”, fantasy master, Lothario 16, party crasher, AKA The Grey, AKA Grey Albright. The two of us trade rhymes like Red and Meth in their prime, as we delve into all the hot topics of the last week. We talk Machado trade, Enyel De Los Santos and Kyle Tucker’s call-ups, the plague of Zombino pitchers currently performing beyond expectations, and a host of other shizz. BTW, if you live in LA, drive a DeLorean, and recently had a douchey run-in with a handsome mustachioed gentleman in a pimping Saab convertible. Speak now, so I can make you my new podcast co-host. You out Grey’d, Grey. Well done! Hey Ralph – let’s say you’re at a weed wedding and your buddy offers you a $0 Walker Buehler in a keep forever league (12 team roto) for your $1 Muncy and $0 Mikolas. You’re both competing for the title (2nd and 3rd place, each ~3 points from 1st).

If you did the swap, Muncy would be replaced on the active lineup by Nimmo or Deshields . . . or a waiver guy like Schebler, Reynolds, Parra, or Piscotty.

Which side do you like, assuming that the edibles haven’t kicked in yet?

    Thanks!

    Love the pod!

Ralph….there’s a few closers I’m looking at grabbing. Which one offensive player would you drop to make room? 10tm H2H categories league. Keep 5 players forever.

    C. Contreras
    1b. Abreu
    2b. DeJong
    3b. Suarez
    Ss. Turner
    Of- Pham
    Of- Trout
    Of- Yelich
    Utl. Muncy
    Utl. Hoskins.

Bench. K. Tucker, Acuna, A. Cabrera

I’m thinking the choice would be between DeJong and Cabrera. Limited moves so it would have to be a ROS type move.

Can you help me with a trade offer? It’s a keeper league, where we keep 6 players + 2 rookies. My current keepers are Arenado, Correa, Albies, Goldy, Benny, Judge and Acuna in one of my rookie spots. I won’t be able to keep one of those going into the 2020 season (probably Goldy).

I’ve been offered Harper, Morton and Gallo for Acuna, Goldy and a 6th rounder. I still feel Harper is the best keeper out of those, but I also feel it’s too much.

    What’s your opinion? Thank you.

    Ralph,
Joey Bart has gone crazy after his promotion to A – short season, in five games he has like five HRs and about two 2B.

Meanwhile Bohm and India are off to slow starts.

Do you expect any our other guys to be gatting move up a level after the ALL- STAR and Future’s game? i am talking guys like Tatis, JR and Taylor Trammell.

@jose H.: Who knows, they could. Callups are tough to predict.

@jose H.: Also don’t get too worked up over a couple weeks of games for Bohm or literally 4 games for India. Bart is good, but if you want to put that much stock into a prospect catcher be my guest.

I think you guys are wrong about nobody caring if someone from every team makes the All-Star game. Kids. Kids care. When I was like a 10-15 year old in the 70s, I cared deeply that someone from my favorite team made it – it was one of the few things that I could genuinely root for, and I tuned in to the All-Star game specifically to see how my team’s representative did. I still remember the excitement of Lee Mazzilli hitting a game-tying HR and drawing a game-winning bases-loaded walk in the 1979 game.

There is much *less* rationale now for not having that rule than back then. Teams now have 32 members each, as opposed to the maybe 24 that made the team back then – yeah, there are a few more teams now, but there is more than plenty of roster space to accommodate at least one player from each team.

If it makes fans happy, it’s fine, but then expand the rosters so there’s no snubs.. Not like the game means anything besides an exhibition

    • Ralph Lifshitz

@LenFuego: Then why is Blake Snell not in the All-Star Game? You know who it means more to than anyone? THE PLAYERS!!!!! They have bonuses, etc that trigger once they make an all-star team. It’s also a great honor that should be bestowed upon the best players. If your team doesn’t have an all-star, that sucks, but think about how much more excited you’d be when a legit all-star from your team made it.

      Let’s evolve.

      • LenFuego says:
        (link)

@Ralph Lifshitz: If you think MLB will make any change that risks alienating impressionable kids who have a chance to become lifelong fans, you are tilting at windmills. MLB is having enough problems attracting and retaining kids as fans as it is — the viability of baseball as an ongoing economic enterprise crucially depends on that and the league cannot just assume their fandom when there are so many entertainment alternatives in this day and age. I bet 60% of Rob Manfred’s mental energy is spent worrying about attracting and retaining young fans – that is why such focus is being made on pace-of-play issues. A kid who has no representative from their local team, say the Padres, probably does not tune into the game and may well drift away away from MLB altogether.

As far as no snubs goes, it does not matter how big you make the rosters – you could make them 100 players in each league – and there will be some players on the edges with an argument they should have been included, and news organizations with eyeballs to attract who will write articles about how they were snubbed.

On your Snell point, of course Snell should have been in. But pitchers were subject to a player vote. If it means so much to the players, why did they not vote in a clearly deserving guy like Snell? As Chris Archer eloquently pointed out, the players as a group apparently did not give a shit enough to spend two minutes looking at who to vote for. That is not the fault of the fans or the at-least-one-player-from-every-team rule.

Never forget that the ASG is an exhibition game whose sole purpose is to promote the game of baseball so the owners can make as much money as possible. That is exactly how MLB will administer it, and really, exactly how they should. The at-least-one-player-from-every-team promotes that purpose and will simply not go away while it does.

As a Padres fan, I’d be happy to see the day when one of our guys gets snubbed. Because that would mean that we actually had 2 guys worth consideration! Instead, we have ex-Padres become all star snubs (Treat Urner!). Fudge!

For now, I’ll take the pity selection & enjoy Brad Hand in an all star uniform with ZERO SHAME. Go Padres! We exist! Screw your Aguilars and Muncys (evil laugh!).

Think the Brewers are gonna let Corbin Burnes start now that he’s in the bigs? Just scooped him up in a 10 team NL only keeper league!

Few questions if you have time. I know your pouring over that 500 proapect list. Your a madman. By the by loved the podcast. It was the first podcast besides watching clips of joe rogan ive ever listened to. Ill definitely listen to more. So here goes.. all regarding a keep forever 6×6. Pitching is at a premium.
Is kipnis worth a hold or bounce him to free a roster spot. I have mondesi in my minors.

Future closers. Im hoarding a few. Archie Bradley, jordan hicks, gsellman, also carl edwards and devenski are avail. Who do you think is worth the hold..

Prospects.. 12 team 14 player minors. your list will help clear this up but who if anyone gets the boot. Jhailyn ortiz, wander javier, yusneil diaz, luis garcia, antuna, nathan lowe.. any of these top 100? Anthony alflord bust?

Dereck Rodriguez or de los santos (phi) long term?

And lastly do you think king felix gets his shit together like cc and learns to pitch w diminished stuff or cut bait?

Im in third gearing up for the playoffs but want to have a solid minor system too. Or trade some of these guys off for win now help. I appreciate any insight you have. Thanks as always. And enjoy your break haa

  13. Brian says:
    (link)

Picked up enyel de los santos and sent down arano.

I need to either drop arano outright or cut one of the arms on my milb roster to make room for arano. i’m in 2nd and have treinen, vazquez, hector rondon closing with melancon if he ever gets the job back and strickland on the DL. varano is useful but he’s probably not getting more than 10 saves ROS in committee with seranthony.

anyway, would you cut arano outright, or send him down and cut one of kaprielian (hurt but still think he has upside if healthy), taylor hearn, dennis santana, or jojo romero?

    thanks ralph!

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:
      (link)

@Brian: DROP KAPRIELIAN FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!

Yeah, that’s an easy call for me. He. Is. Broken. I also read he’s hurt again after another setback. Enyel is the reason guys like Kap shouldn’t be holds, pitching prospects are volatile.

      • Brian says:
        (link)

@Ralph Lifshitz: LOL! thanks ralph. One more for you…different league

16 team dynasty. h2h 6×6 with hits and OPS, and k/bb and QS. wasn’t expecting to contend this year but currently in 5th 7.5 games back. top 6 make playoffs.

roster is C-flowers, 1b-encarnacion, 2b – eduardo escobar, ss-xander, 3b-machado, of-mazara, and generally polanco and thames but i’ll also rotate in span, brinson, and para), util-aguilar, then i rotate between the aforementioned OFs and my BN for the 2nd UTIL spot, BN-brad miller, culberson, wilmer flores,
SP-sale, pivetta, domingo german, morton, bassitt, gant, buehler, tropeano, cahill, alcantara RP-peacock, hector rondon, greene, seranthony, kela, chad green, will smith, arano, strickland.
My minors roster is pretty loaded-tatis, adell, trammell, yordan, will benson, rodgers, corey ray, wander javier, kyle lewis, lutz, loaisiga, jojo romero, graterol, allard, kaprelian.
another owner put nellie cruz and stras up for bid. he wants buehler, tatis, and adell.
I countered with adell, buehler, and brendan rodgers plus some mlb depth if he wanted it. He’s sticking firm to tatis, adell, and buehler. would you pull the trigger?

i’m in more need of an arm than a bat but even at 38 or whatever in a dynasty league, cruz would instantly become my 2nd best hitter. and even hurt at the moment stras would give my team a really strong top 3. my team’s been all over the map in this league so far. finished 4th my 1st year, then sold off some prospects to make a run only to finish 10th last year. that’s why i’m somewhat hesitant to go all in.

I think my package even without tatis is pretty loaded and if he thinks he can find something better, rock on, but would love your take.

        thanks ralph!
