There’s no better way to spend your Sunday morning than relaxing with a nice cup o’ Joe!  On a day like today, do you lean toward an Espresso, Red Eye or just a simple Black Coffee to get the motor running?  Maybe your preference slants more toward the Cappuccino, Latte or a Grande Decaf Mocha Frappa…something or other.  Inevitably, many of you are drinking an Iced Coffee or Cold Brew instead.  No matter your taste, I say, “Just enjoy it.  Monday will be here soon enough!”

Roaming the halls here at Razzball this morning, the only living soles I encounter are Terry, the Security Guard, and the Razz Leprechaun whom I’ve dubbed, Bree.  [Side Note: As a frequent patron of Razzball, you’ve seen many instances of Grey talking like a Leprechaun…methinks that’s actually Bree talking!]  Terry and Bree steer me toward the break room, but I manage to avoid the vending machines and two-day-old donuts from Grey’s executive staff meeting on Friday.  My preferred cup of Joe this morning is not a beverage at all.  Rather, I’m ordering up a double shot of “Joes” to build my DFS lineups around.  Scroll down to see these and all my DFS picks for the Sunday slate…and a special “thank you” to Terry and Bree for their input as well.  Everyone contributes here at Razzball!

Joe Ryan, SP: DK: $8,400 / FD: $9,400 – Coming off a dud last time out versus the Astros, Joe Ryan looks to regain his dominance against a Guardians squad simply trying to prevent sending any more personnel to the MLB Covid-19 infirmary.  Despite their current challenges, the Guardians can hit the ball and come in with an AL-best .754 team OPS on the road this season.  The fact that the Twins are 10-1 at home over the past month versus teams not named “Astros” means something must give here.  Including the lackluster start earlier in the week, Joe is still maintaining a 2.56 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with sub .200 BAA.  He’ll do well to channel his April self and end the homestand on a high.

Joe Musgrove, SP: DK: $11,000 / FD: $10,000 – Joe Musgrove was in my Mother’s Day lineup last Sunday and although not leaving with a W, posted a respectable 7.0 IP, 2 ER, 8 K performance versus the Marlins.  If you’re scoring at home, that start resulted in 23.5 points in DraftKings and 43.0 in FanDuel.  I’m going back to the well today for much of the same versus the Braves.  As a team, the Braves are mid-pack or worse in virtually all batting statistics across the NL and particularly struggles versus RHP like Musgrove.  Look for Joe to continue his string of quality starts and add 8-10 Ks for good measure.

Sean Murphy, C/1B: DK: $4,500 / FD: $3,000 – Hittertron’s #1 C today is Salvador Perez (DK: $5,200 / FD: $3,600) at Coors Field versus a LHP.  Of course, he is.  Plugging in Sal and running to the next position would be the wise thing to do but Bree convinced me to dig a deeper…and I mean REAL DEEP.  Bree pointed out that two-thirds of HRs by Sean Murphy have come against RHPs like Thor and his May results, with two 15+ point games in FanDuel, suggests he’s starting to find a groove.  Personally, I just think there’s an Irish connection between Murphy and our resident Leprechaun, but I suppose Grey keeps him around for a good reason.

Freddie Freeman, C/1B: DK: $4,900 / FD: $4,100 – I’m paying up for Freddie Freeman today as he faces an old familiar foe in Aaron Nola.  While his lifetime .250 AVE, 2 HR and 12 RBI stats versus Nola may give some pause here, I look toward his current .307/.379/.467 triple slash versus RHP with an eye on taking advantage of the slight dip we’re seeing in Nola’s ability to miss bats.  Through Friday, the Dodgers have scored 17 runs on the Phillies, only to be outscored by 2 each game.  Which hitters are more likely to continue raking today?  My money is on the Dodgers and their big free agent.  NOTE: Terry tried to pitch a deep play here in Carlos Santana (DK: $2,700 / FD: $3,000) facing a nice matchup versus LHP Austin Gomber at Coors but I just couldn’t pull the trigger.  Feel free to throw Terry a bone if you are more courageous than I am.

Whit Merrifield, 2B: DK: $4,900 / FD: $3,400 – Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Terry gives you Whit Merrifield.  Who knew the Razzball Security Guard was such a visionary?  Maybe he just watched Harry Potter overnight…but I digress.  Back to Merrifield – it was only a matter of time before Merrifield started hitting again.  Over the last 5 games, Whit has 8 H, 5 RBIs and 2 SBs, averaging almost 18 points per game in FanDuel.  With one more to play at Coors, I’m banking on 6.

Brandon Drury, 3B: DK: $5,100 / FD: $3,900 – This pick is all about riding the hot streak and Brandon Drury qualifies as being on fire.  In May, Drury has logged 15 H, 4 HRs, and 15 RBIs.  It’s only a matter of time before this blaze is extinguished so get a piece of the action while you can.

Jorge Polanco, SS: DK: $4,600 / FD: $3,300 – If Joe Ryan is going to win, he’ll need some help from his pals.  Jorge Polanco prefers to face RHP, with a .910 OPS and 75% of his long balls over the past few seasons coming off pitchers like Triston McKenzie.  I’ll be looking at a mini stack of Byron Buxton and Polanco in some formats today.

Tommy Pham OF: DK: $4,700 / FD: $3,600 – Tommy Pham has been a surprisingly good DFS player this season.  The overall stats, .239/.362/.394, don’t exactly exude confidence here but he rarely takes a goose egg and already has 6 games with 20+ FanDuel points – 2 of which were over 30.  He’s due for a day off but the Reds get one on Monday so I’m counting on him finishing off the Pirates series in style.

Connor Joe, OF: DK: $5,100 / FD: $3,800 – This column wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t end with another “JOE”… Connor Joe soared out of the gates, scoring double-digit FanDuel points in 9 of his first 15 games.  Since April 23, Joe has come back to Earth (OPS dropping from 1.032 to .841) but remains a worthwhile play in DFS.  He rarely takes an 0-fer but hasn’t seen a 20+ point day since.  His splits have always favored LHP and since he’s scheduled to face southpaw Daniel Lynch and the Royals, I’ll take a cup of this Joe as well!

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

Looks like another great day of baseball.  I don’t see any major weather issues to concern ourselves with.

Doing Lines In Vegas

I’ll be dropping some dimes today to support one of my Joes.  SD has plus odds across the platforms (+105 – +111) to win in Atlanta and my lock of the week is Joe Musgrove (-165) to pitch more than 5.5 innings.  He has tossed 6.0 or more in each start this season.
