Major League Baseball has just seven games going on today with most of them day games, so this article will be about the FanDuel all-day slate that locks at 1:15 pm Eastern Time on Thursday, September 8th, 2022. With not many tournaments posted and the start time so spread out, this will be cash game focused tonight.  We’ll kick things off with Dylan Cease ($10,800) at starting pitcher.  He is the most expensive pitcher on the slate. He also has a 31.4% strikeout rate, a 3.36 xFIP, and is pitching to one of the worst offenses in the game at arguably the best pitcher park in the game.  Sandy Alcantara ($10,200), Nestor Cortes ($10,000), Corbin Burnes ($9,800), Adam Wainwright ($9,500), and Kyle Gibson ($9,100) are all viable but essentially in the same price range.

Josiah Gray, SP: $8,300 – If this were a good tournament day, Gray would be your prototypical GPP spend-down play of the day. He has a high strikeout rate (25.5%), but he has a 10.2% walk rate and allows 2.38 HR/9.  I would not go this low in a cash game and look at some of the other options listed above if you cannot afford Cease but I would recommend finding a way to afford Cease.

Jose Abreu, C/1B: $3,300 – With Abreu, the power has not been there with just a .143 ISO this season. But his on-base percentage is good at .382 and is facing the pitcher with the highest SIERA on the slate.

Garrett Cooper C/1B: $2,200 – He has a .331 OBP, is going to hit in Philadelphia, and Kyle Gibson has a SIERA north of 4.00. Not a smash play here or anything but a pretty solid play for a punt.

Jon Berti, 2B: $2,800 – If he is leading off, I like him today. He has stolen base upside as well. Tommy Edman at $3,300 isn’t a terrible play either as the Cardinals should put up runs, and Kolten Wong at $2,700 is always really solid.

Nolan Arenado, 3B: $4,000 – Nolan Arenado might be my favorite play on this slate. As said before, Josiah Gray allows 2.38 HR/9, and Arenado is having a great season with a .365 OBP and .255 ISO. I want to spend up on either Arenado or Goldschmidt in my lineup today and Arenado is a few hundred cheaper.

Oswaldo Cabrera, SS: $2,100 – I would punt at shortstop. Cabrera has not done much but that Yankees offense is so good to get a piece of that at $2,100 isn’t bad. I would personally wait until lineups come out and find a punt play that is batting as high as you can find in the order.

Luis Robert, OF: $2,700 – JP Sears is arguably the worst pitcher on the slate, Robert is sub $3K?

Giancarlo Stanton, OF: $2,700 – He is banged up so might be out, and he definitely is more of a boom-or-bust type of a player but this much upside for under $3K is something to consider. I mean, he’s less expensive than A.J. Pollock……
