Grey Albright drops a bomb to start the podcast. A Twitter bomb to be exact. Head over to Razzball’s Twitter page to see if you notice a difference. I then use that as an opportunity to pepper Grey with questions about what he is really up to out in Hollywood. We eventually shift focus back to fantasy baseball, and talk about the ramifications of Freddie Freeman’s injury, along with the impending return of Steven Matz and David Price. The meat of the podcast is all about general trade strategies and specific trade targets. We discuss strategies based on where you are in the standings, such as “buying high” on recent breakouts rather than trading your best player for four mediocre ones. We also dig into the merits of specific targets, including Danny Salazar, Justin Verlander, Rich Hill, Michael Conforto, Mitch Haniger, Giancarlo Stanton, Miguel Sano, Jose Berrios, and many more. Finally, I congratulate the winner of last week’s Razzball Only FantasyDraft Contest, MuneForNothing (who I believe is VictoriaB), and look forward to JOINING THIS WEEK’S CONTEST. It’s the latest edition of the Razzball Fantasy Baseball Podcast.

I rethought who should play Grey in the Razzball movie. There is no doubt in my mind that it has to be Charlie Kelly.

      @Halp: Maybe Don Kelly?

@The Great Knoche: The only Don Kelly actor I see was born in 1924, ha

        • The Great Knoche says:
          (link)

@Halp: Was going Don Kelly formally of Tigers fame. Think if you add a mustache he would be very Grey-ish

@J-FOH: True. Can’t argue with that

        • J-FOH says:
          (link)

@Halp: I do like how he wanted Joe McHale to play him. In that world I would be played by Tyrese and Ralph would be James van der Beek

@MattTruss: haha, I was laughing when I saw I beat you by like less than a point or something. Didn’t come in the money, but it’s the small victories. Looking forward to going back at it tonight!

@Halp: This podcast is so, so good — hilarious and informative. Thanks for the shoutout–ya, what Matt said: I am indeed MuneForNothing (say it like moo-nay [for Munenori Kawasaki, my former favourite Jay] and it sums up my DFS career), and I too cannot wait to get back to it tonight! I’m never gonna beat you peeps again, but that’s OK: after converting the $27 into Canadian dollars, I can basically retire on a gold-plated yacht.

Congrats on the check mark, Grey!

        (link)

@Tehol Beddict: yeppers, with tehol here. don’t get cute and let that guy trade darvish to somebody else for something deserving of darvish due to you piddling around trying to suck more value. yr lucky i’m not dealing with you, if for some reason i was dumb enough to SEND darvish for your zimm then i get lowballed from THAT offer i’m done with you and going to somebody else. you got a guy who came to you with at least $15 for your $8 or so and you want $25 for your $8? hope it works out for ya.

      • @Halp: Dammit! Missed a payout by one place. It’s all Carpenter’s fault!

I sold R zimm for Miggy 2 weeks ago and I’ve been in first all year, good move ROS? what do robots think?

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Swayzee: Yea, I think you have to make that move (even though we were kinda saying the opposite on the podcast, but not really, ha). Being in first makes it easier to wait out his slow start too.

You’ll have to ask the robots. I don’t have an inside line with them.

      • Swayzee says:
        (link)

@Halp: haha thanks for the response, you had me worried there on the podcast saying it might be a bad move to trade for a guy like miggy when you may have caught a career year out of zim. My thinking was both should regress or progress towards means, and even if Miggy is taking a step back this year, I still think he can be a 900 OPS guy

        • Halp

          Halp says:
          (link)

@Swayzee: haha … I’m with you. I’m not ready to bet against Miggy quite yet either.

        • Mordacious Levator says:
          (link)

@Swayzee: you had it right the first time, regress in the case of miggy would mean he gets better, zimm worse. surprisingly many of the writers don’t even know that’s definitionally true. not saying halp doesn’t, i’m betting he in fact does. regression doesn’t only apply to something getting worse.

  10. James Bishop says:

        • Halp

    Thanks!

    • Halp

@mernest: I don’t think Cargo is done. He started cold last year too and he has hit better his last 5 games already. Having said that, it is a pretty fair offer. I would only do it if I needed steals though. If not, I think I’m hanging with Cargo.

@Raoul Duke: i lean allard right now but it is tight with mckenzie and buehler too. I think allard is a bit safer than them, and he has plenty of upside too

  16. David says:

Really enjoyed your podcast guys! Gives me great advice and entertaining listening material, keep up the good work.

I’m currently in 2nd in our H2H league and although grey doesn’t like buy low/sell high trades I just pulled the trigger on one.

I just gave my Cozart and Zimmerman for Owings and Arrieta. I don’t see zim continuing to be this good as well as Arrieta doing this bad, and I feel owings’ production is more sustainable than Cozarts @ss. What are your thoughts for ROS?

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@David: Really appreciate that, David! And I like that trade a lot too. Didn’t even mention Arrieta on the podcast because I kinda felt his value should still be strong, but you are right, there are probably some buy low opportunities out there for him. And agreed completely with Owings over Cozart. Think you made a really solid trade here

  17. SwayzeExpress says:
    (link)

Hey guys, I’m considering offering Dylan Bundy for Jeff Smardzija in a league that counts W, QS, and K/9. I think Shark is a solid buy low considering his numbers look straight awful on the surface but everything points towards him performing better moving forward. His k/bb rate, xFIP, SIERA, all looks good.
On the other hand, I’m fearful of Bundy’s durability, lack of k’s, his home park, and division (his next 3 starts are NYY, BOS, NYY, his value may dip a bit after those).

What do you guys think? The only thing holding me back is that it’s a dynasty league so age is a factor but I feel like Shark could help anchor my staff that’s been pretty rocky so far. I am contending, in 4th, great offense and pitching is solid other than a few injuries to the top of my staff.

Thanks in advance, really enjoyed the podcast also.

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@SwayzeExpress: I think your analysis basically nailed it. I tool a shot on Samardzija in my dynasty league auction this off-season and am quite happy with the decision. Would take a lot to move him. But Bundy is just so much younger, that even with all of those concerns (which I share), it would be tough to move him for a 32-year-old. I’m not sure the short term upgrade is enough (or even guaranteed to be an upgrade at all) that it is worth all the potential long term value lost. I wouldn’t blame you for pulling the trigger though, because I do like Samardzija more over the next 2-3 years.

  18. RAZZIE says:
    (link)

Hi, I have a trade question if you don’t mind. I am in a 12 team standard 5×5 dynasty league. I got offered Jose Ramirez, Sean Manaea, Brad Hand, and a late first rounder for my Jose Berrios, Devon Travis, and Robert Gsellman. I have Altuve at 2nd, so Travis is mainly on the bench. I don’t mind losing Gsellman. I really hate to part with Berrios. Would I be getting enough in return for him? Are you a believer in Manaea?

    Thanks!

    • Halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@RAZZIE: Hey, Razzie. I am a believer in Manaea. I’ve actually been trying to pry him away from the owner who has him in my dynasty league as well (to no avail). I think the deal does favor your side overall, especially considering Travis is expendable for you. Gsellman has been a major disappointment (that has hurt me in a few leagues too), and then you are getting 3 really solid pieces back (plus Hand). As well as Berrios has been pitching, I think it makes sense to pull the trigger.

      • RAZZIE says:
        (link)

@Halp: Thanks for the advice! He also said I could replace Brad Hand with Amir Garrett if I wanted. Who would you rather have?

        • RAZZIE says:
          (link)

@RAZZIE: And another update.. Hand, Garrett, or Trevor Cahill can be picked.

          • Halp

            Halp says:
            (link)

@RAZZIE: I’m not the hugest Garrett fan either (think he is more a mid rotation guy in a bad ballpark), but I would still grab him over Hand who San Diego has said they like him in the fireman role over strict closer (but he’ll probably get plenty of saves too). Just think his upside and trade value is enough to favor Garrett.

            • Bron says:
              (link)

@Halp: So that deal fell through, but he offered me Urias, Garrett, and a mid 1st rounder for Berrios. How do you feel about this one?

              • Halp

                Halp says:
                (link)

@Bron: i dont like it as much, but its still good value for berrios

                • Bron says:
                  (link)

@Halp: So you would prefer getting Manaea back over Urias?

                  • Halp

                    Halp says:
                    (link)

                    • Bron says:
                      (link)

@Halp: Sorry to keep blowing up your comments here, but we are down to a final deal and I cant decide what I want to do. He will give me Manaea with either Jose Ramirez or a high 1st rounder in next years draft. Do you do this? Which one do you take? Thank you so much for taking the time to help me here!
