Starting at Shortstop for five of the last six games for the Tigers is John Peck. With the Tigers out of the race, they have the opportunity to play around as we close out the season, and I think we’re seeing that as they give Peck a look at Short and keep Kevin McGonigle at third base.
Peck barely spent any time at AAA before the call-up, as most of his time in the minors this year was spent at AA. His call-up to AAA happened in late June, and he got hurt almost immediately and then spent the next two months on the shelf before going back to Toledo in late August. One week later, he was on the move to Detroit.
Across all his minor league games in 2026, he hit .288 with 11 Home Runs and 22 Stolen Bases. His batting eye is probably a little below average for a prospect of his age coming out. He struck out at a 25.2% clip in the minors this year with just a 6.4% walk rate.
Over his entire Minor League career, Peck has 107 Stolen Bases while being caught 24 times. That’s good for a 77.6% success rate. His sprint speed doesn’t look elite thus far, but it’s hard to tell with only one bolt on the Statcast page. I would expect him to settle in as slightly above MLB average, but watching a couple clips, he gets a great jump, which leads to a lot of his steals.

Wednesday, September 9th – Nationals vs Padres
Jacob Young – Going right back to him here as he gets a great runners match-up against Walker Buehler and the Padres. Young has 17 stolen bases on the year so far, having been caught just three times. He still has elite sprint speed at 29.2 Ft/sec. Buehler allows .153 SB/IP and has an 88.6% success rate against. Luis Campusano has caught most games for Buehler to try and help with the running game. He ranks 11th on the catcher throwing leaderboard.
Thursday, September 10th –

Friday, September 11th – White Sox vs Cardinals
Sam Antonacci – Dude set a record for White Sox HBP in a season, which is now at 25 times on the year. He likes getting on base. When he does, he likes to run, although not always successfully, sitting at 17 for 24 on the season. His sprint speed is slightly above average at 28.2 Ft/Sec. He’ll face the Cardinals and Matthew Liberatore Friday. Liberatore allows .122 SB/IP and has an 85.3% success rate against. The Cards, like the Padres, are using three catchers now into September, and only Pedro Pages is above average at cutting down runners. Ivan Herrera is actually dead last on the throwing leaderboard.
