We’re back to chasing speed this week. Keep an eye towards shuffling batting orders, rookies on the horizon, and second-half surges. The NFL pre-season will soon have its hooks in us. There may be some surprising names on the wire thanks to this. Maybe suggest a surprisingly friendly trade for the thing you need most. Grind on in the name of the faceless god, free category juice.

  • Miguel Rojas has slid into the top of the Marlins order over the last month. He’s getting on-base at a .363 clip since then. That’s given him ample opportunity to steal five bases. The two homers he’s chipped in are just gravy. He’s owned in 15-20% of leagues.
  • David Fletcher has been getting busy on the base paths. He has five steals in the month of August. Rostering Fletch is always about his coverage in the average category with occasional upticks in homers and steals.
  • Our man The Itch keeps his finger on the prospect beat and he highlighted Jorge Mateo recently. The passed-around prospect has been a consummate reminder of unfulfilled potential. Landing in Baltimore is a decent bit of luck. As Itch mentions, they’ve had success with that type of profile recently. They also have at-bats to spare.
  • Whit Merrifield was caught stealing for only the second time this season and first since April. He’s been forcing the issue in the past week with five attempts.
  • Another player prone to spurts of production is Michael A. Taylor. He’s ramping into one such run with three steals in the last week. If you’re hurting for outfield help, and who isn’t, he’s worth kicking the tires on.
