Not too long ago the words “Chicago Cubs Prospects” meant something. It was a system deep with talented positional players with premium fantasy upsides. In recent years those talented positional payers have debuted on the big stage, succeeded (for the most part), and broke an 108 year old curse. So to say things are good in Wrigleyville is an understatement. While the farm is not what it was two years ago, it’s been essential in reinforcing both of the Cubs recent playoff runs. This leaves Lance and myself to pick up the pieces of what remains. It’s a system lacking standout talent, but one that’s deep with mid-rotation starters, fringe positional players, and middle relief types. We go through the high points in Jose Albertos, Adbert Alzolay, and Aramis Ademan. Then cover some of the recent draftees, and scour the system for upside. Not the most exciting collection of talent we’ll cover, but there’s a few names to watch for. Finally, please make sure to support our sponsor by heading over to RotoWear.com and entering promo code “SAGNOF” for 20% off the highest quality t-shirts in the fantasy sports game. @JP: See below…
Happy New Year Ralph! Please rank these young pitchers on upside: Gohara, Urias, Luzardo and T. McKenzie.
Thanks
@David: McKenzie, Gohara, Urias, Luzardo… This is super close, and any order of the first three makes sense.
Not had time to listen yet. Will do so, Alzolay is unowned in my 30 team league.
Football update : lost on 23rd at 2nd place team. Won Boxing Day 3-0, won today 4-1. Currently 3rd.
@Another Dan: Third place heading into the New Year is none too shabby!
He’s worth an add for sure in a 30 team.
How were the Holidays?
@Ralph Lifshitz:
Good holidays so far, very relaxed. Spending some good time with the kids. Guess much the same as many at this time of year. Both sides of our family are near to us. So we’ve spent a lot of time with them so far.
Plenty of sport to watch on TV of an evening and FB reading to do to catch up. Good times.
Hope your holidays are good too. I read the bit about your 7 year old beating down on you when playing video games – mine are too young for that, but I am sure it will come.
Bought both children bikes this year. Not that they have got the concept of pedalling yet …. interesting. Biggest waste of money was a Hatchimal.
Father Christmas brought me a San Francisco Giants shirt. What a good man he is. However I am upset about his size judgment – an XL in baseball shirts is a tad too big for me.
On baseball. In a league with 250 prospects owned. Tyler Beede, Tyler Jay, Travis Demerritte and Josh Naylor worth owning ? They are on a roster I inherited. Players like Gabriel Arias, Jesus Luzardo are unowned, as well as players in FYPD (have #1 pick, #13, #25 …)
In that 30 teamed, I am compiling a list of players who are unowned that Interest me. If you have time / inclination to make suggestions that would be useful. It might be an idea for an article … how do you research/rank a player or group of players ? What do you look for ? Where do you look ? At the minute I am too much of a Novice to know what to do but enough of an expert to know I have not got a clue. It’s a weird place.
Best wishes, and apologies for the fifteenth volume of my ‘essays from Northern England’
Another Dan
@Another Dan: Nice! Yeah, I was playing a bit, I’m sure I could take him out! Hahaha
My daughter got a Hatchimal “nursery”, worthless. Played with it for like 5 minutes, hatched all of them and she was done.
It’s those American sizes!
I would add those two guys, if you have to drop a couple to make it work, Demeritte and Jay would be my first drops.
I love your essays Dan! We’re like pen pals! Hahaha
Seriously, I was shocked at the length of this podcast after watching the minors get depleted the last several years. Good so far, 15-minutes in :) Thanks Gentlemen!
@Count de Monetballl: We like to talk… A LOT!!! The other part is I like to dig in for the listeners in the 30 team leagues. Find those rough diamonds.
@Count de Monetballl:
Thanks for listening!
I think Bovada should have an over-under prop for the length of our White Sox podcast after seeing the Red Sox and Cubs go over 1 hr hahahaha
@Lance: It’s 3 to 1 odds at an hour and forty five minutes.
@Ralph Lifshitz:
Take my money!!!
