Well, it’s not how the Nationals envisioned the arrival, but Bryce Harper is here.  The promotion is based more on necessity than performance – Harper’s hitting just .250/.333/.375 in the early going at Triple-A Syracuse.  Looks like he’ll occupy the 7th spot in the Washington batting order while Ryan Zimmerman and Michael Morse are shelved on the DL.  It’s probably unrealistic to expect too much out of Harper just yet, but he’s the No. 1 prospect in the game and he possess the tools and makeup to convince me otherwise quickly.  As I’m writing this, we’re some seven hours from first pitch in LA.  And while I’d love to document the MLB debut of The Great Bryce Harper, I have a wedding to attend this evening, and thus, an open bar to drain.  You’ll have to hit me up in the comments to hear my hungover thoughts on Harper’s first game.

Mike Trout | OF, AngelsTrout, too, was called up from Triple-A and he’s in left field and leading off for the Angels on Saturday.  Given his hot start in the PCL, it seems Trout is a safer bet than Harper to produce immediately.  He’ll be in the lineup everyday going forward, so pick him up if he’s somehow still available in your league.

Wil Myers | OF, Royals After struggling in Double-A last season, Myers is off to a blazing start at the same level in 2012.  He’s already blasted six homers and knocked in 14, stealing three bags in the process.

Leonys Martin | OF, RangersBack in February, I voiced my uncertainty regarding Martin, claiming I hadn’t seen enough from his bat to endorse him as a quality fantasy option.  Well, he’s finally shown me something, as he’s already hit three homers while slashing .329/.409/.524 through 94 PA’s at Triple-A.  That’s quite the turnaround when you consider his production at the same level last season:  .263/.316/.314, 0 HR in 192 PA’s.  Martin could be occupying center for the Rangers for the second half if his hot start persists.

Will Middlebrooks | 3B, Red SoxMiddlebrooks has a .416 ISO through his first 20 games at Triple-A, which is ridiculous.  It’ll be easy for Boston to pass on Youkilis’s option at season’s end if their 3B of the future keeps up these unreal numbers.

Dylan Bundy | RHP, Orioles Here’s another dude with unreal numbers.  Through four games and 13 IP, Bundy has stuck out 21 batters.  The 19-year-old is yet to allow a hit in his pro career, while walking only one.

Jonathan Singleton | 1B, AstrosWith 12 XBH through his first 79 trips to the plate in the Double-A Texas League, Singleton is making a push to reach Houston this year.  Those who thought his 2011 line was inflated by the hitter-friendly Cali League are surely starting to be swayed.

Trevor May | RHP, Phillies After posting a 12.10 K/9 in 2011 at High-A, May is back to his filthy self in 2012, this time at Double-A, where he’s already struck out 26 batters in 23 IP.  Once he’s able to hone his command, May shouldn’t need too much more time in the minors.

Brad Peacock | RHP, AthleticsI highlighted Peacock’s hot start in last week’s Minor Accomplishments.  He followed up my endorsement with a Monday start that looked like this:  4.1 IP, 10 H, 7 ER.  That’ll be the last time I say anything nice about that jerk.

Any thoughts on when Wil Meyers could break in for the Royals?

He’s stuck behind the Kansas City – Jeff Francouer love affair in right field. I know he’s only 21, but where does he fit for KC? As a fan, I really don’t want to trade him…

Thanks

Need some help heading into Monday………..

Have Torres, Nieuwenhuis, Parra and Campana all as my last 2OF spots and 1 UTIL.

I can drop Juan Francisco, Clint Barmes to keep all of them but I need to make a decision with Torres returning on Monday. Clint Barmes sucks and Juan is a ghost in Atlanta right now.

Do I drop one of the duds and keep Torres to see how the platoon shakes out in NY?

@Scott Evans, Ventura officially said Santiago is still his man after the game. He was warming up and would have come in if Thornton faltered. Agonz and Ortiz were up and Ventura referenced Thornton’s dominance of them in the past.

Is there hope for Dominic Brown getting called up again this year? What’s going on with him? He’s fallen off most fantasy sites I go to that report on minor league players.

@BigUps, I picked him up in a trade in one of my keeper leagues. I’ve never been a fan of his and knew he’d end up being a bust, but I’m holding on for the time being. I think it may need injuries to the Phillies OF or a trade to another team for him to see time this year.

Jim Johnson, Scott Downs, or Santiago Casilla? Who do you like for the rest of the season?

@MrHappyTime,

Casilla>Johnson>Downs

Casilla has a better skill set than Johnson and will probably be a better ratio helper. I think Downs is just a stopgap until the Angels can deal for someone else or correct walden’s problems; he doesn’t K enough guys to make me comfortable with him holding the role all year.

@chattanooga, Def gotta agree with you that Downs is a stop gap. I’d be suprprised if they go more than 3 weeks before inserting Walden back in the closer role. I’m thinking it’ll be the same type situation that the Royals did with Soria last year.

@MrHappyTime, I don’t get why Casilla is only owned in less than 40% of ESPN leagues and 55% of CBS leagues (not sure about Yahoo). I think it’s pretty clear at this point that he’s “the guy” (not Romo or Lopez). The Giants’ great pitching staff and a low-scoring offense are a great formula for save ops. He should be owned in any league that counts Saves.

What’s your take on Tyler Moore? Admittedly I knew nothing about him, but his numbers in A and AA were pretty insane. Seems like he got off to a good start in AAA too.

10team roto — 6×6 (OBP instead of AVG and K’s as neg offensive cat)

I was relying on Crisp for steals but Trout getting the call makes him expendable I think (I snatched Campana off waivers so hopefully he sticks for a bit too).

Trade Crisp for Marmol? I’m weak on saves but I’m starting to feel a heart attack coming on just thinking about Marmol

@Tony, What are your needs and how does this trade fit? If you need SP and can give up power then this looks ok. Sandoval will not have the power of Braun so you will lose HRs and RBI. But if you can afford that then this is a good trade.

I was able to snag Trout before he got called up and was just offered the following trade:

I give: Trout & Drabek
I get: Heyward

This is a 12-team, H2H, 6×6, Non-keeper league with OPS & QS as the extra categories.

Here’s my current roster:

c: Jesus
1b: Miggy
2b: Uggla
ss: D. Gordon
3b: Wright
IF: K. Morales
OF: J. Upton, Bruce, Parra
Utl: Reynolds
BN: Harper, Trout, C. Davis
SP: Bumgarner, Price, Gio, Zimmerman, Minor, Bard, Drabeck, Bass
RP: Santos(DL), Guerra, Myers, HanK-Rod, Castillo, Cordero

@Scott Evans, I’d take that deal in a heartbeat…. have you watched trout? He looks like a kid with ADHD trying to play baseball but he just ate a bucket of sugar? I know he’s going to be good, but he really looks like he’s going to press, which is probably going to not equal any consistency out of him. How many rookies have came up and actually raked? And LAA has many options, it will just take one small slump, another guy hitting, and he’s back down….

Tony
Reply to  Scott Evans

@Scott Evans, ya braun raked but thats ONE IN A MILLION, i mean he raked like a 1st rounder right outta the gate. Believe me I know I was one of the lucky ones to snag him right when he started heating up that year. Those were the days. But the odds of trout, harper, Carp, etc coming out of the gate like that? Very Unlikely. and with trouts crowded OF shituation in LAA like i mentioned above? I wouldn’t be for sure about his PT, he HAS to rake to stay on the field.

@Tony, Posey who was much older but won people leagues. ‘Los Santana before he got injured. Bruce played really well initially and Chris Davis mashed in his cup of coffee. And remember Hosmer at 20 years old was a border-line mixed leaguer last year. It happens.

Remember Trout had 2 stints last year. Pressed in the first. Showed signs in the 2nd. I think he hits enough to be relevant this time around. That said, in a redraft league I’m taking Heyward.

despite that bad start, would you rank them Peacock, Bundy, Singleton? I have the two pitchers in my dynasty league, and am thinking about picking up Singleton, but don’t really have a place. Is Peacock done as an elite prospect?

@kangaroo hops, he was a late bloomer I guess. I think he could still be a good starter in the bigs tho and he should be up pretty soon. Bundy is in low a. 2 years before he even sniffs the bigs. If you don’t mind waiting that long his talent his emense. Singleton is in AA so he could get a shot in September. Power still hasn’t fully developed (23 2b and 13 hr’s last season in A+) but he’s only 20 years old so most expect the HR totals to increase as he gets stronger. Hope this helps.

5 OF plus uti, MI

I have OF of Braun, Victorino, Bruce, Boesch, Ethier

@The badger, My main dilemma

I also have pandaval/Lawrie/headley

So they are currently filling my 3B/1B-3B and utility at present. Fitting everyone in afterwards will be an issue

But is the offer good enough to take?

Thanks

@The badger,

I wouldn’t take the deal. looks like you would just be taking Braun’s production and spreading it out over three players… and then losing upside production.

What here you hoping to gain through the trade anyway?

@chattanooga, An improved MI. Not happy with cozart/Espinosa at this point.

I’m somewhat of a believer in headley and believe I could flip one of Lawrie/panda for an improve elsewhere.

Plus I’m also not sure Braun will be a stud as he has been. Ima huge fan but not 100% certain he will be elite this year.

Appreciate all opinions I’m genuinely on the fence

Would you take Trevor May over any of these guys in a keeper farm team:
Mike Montgomery, Zach Lee, Eddie Rosario, Juan Segura.
Generally always favour long-term upside over time of arrival.

Awesome, good stuff as usual Grey! Can’t sleep over here on the west coast, good to find something to help me end my late night fantasy line up adjustment. Well, here it goes…I have Harper and Trout(hoarding fantasy prospects in attempts to fleece others in trades is a guilty pleasure of mine) on my day to day standard ESPN league do I start both and have Cespedes or Beltran sit or just go with one for now?
