David Dahl‘s 2015 season is already over after lacerating his spleen in a nasty collision. Fun fact time. Back in the day, when humans were even dumber than they are now, folks thought that the spleen produced a kind of black bile that was related to melancholy. Their descendants can now be found trolling blogs across the interwebs with a brand new arsenal of misinformation. Dahl ranked numero uno on my Rockies Top 10 Fantasy Prospects list this offseason and #12 on my Top 50 Fantasy Prospects, so this is a major injury to a very good player. Missed time is starting to pile up, as Dahl had already missed a large part of his 2013 season with a torn hammy. The 21-year-old also suffered a concussion in this week’s collision. Just talking about this makes me all melancholic. I blame my spleen. Here’s what else is happening around the minor leagues…
Corey Seager, SS | Dodgers
If you’re one of the fantasy owners on #SeagerWatch, the news that he started a game at third on Friday night must have really tickled your fancy. After his 6-for-6 performance on Thursday with two doubles, a homer, and six RBIs it was probably more like a Seagasm.
Jose Peraza, 2B | Braves
Peraza already moved off of shortstop with Simmons blocking him in the majors. Now it looks like he’ll give centerfield a go with Jace Peterson actually hitting with the big club. Getting some reps at center may speed up his ETA, but a profile like Peraza’s has more fantasy value at middle infield.
C.J. Edwards, RHP | Cubs
The Cubs promoted Edwards to Triple-A after he went 2-2 with a 2.66 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 23.2 innings for Double-A Tennessee. I shied away from ranking Edwards in a stacked Cubs Top 10 this offseason, but the 23-year-old is pitching great and making me look silly so far.
Luis Severino, RHP | Yankees
Severino was also promoted to Triple-A this week. The 21-year-old right-hander ranked fourth on the Yankees Top 10 list this offseason and could make his major league debut later this year if he keeps it up. He has a tidy walk rate (2.4 BB/9) and good strikeout numbers (11.4 K/9).
Trea Turner, SS | Padres (Nationals)
We’re almost to the actual completion of the Padres/Nationals trade, and it feels like Turner is trying to slam the door on his way out of San Diego. Entering Saturday’s games, the 21-year-old shortstop was rocking a 14-game hitting streak. For the 2015 season he is hitting .339 with five homers, 12 doubles, and nine steals. Don’t let his elevated BABIP scare you off, as his skill set lends itself to higher BABIPs. Turner could be in the mix for the Nationals’ middle infield as early as 2016.
Tyler Wagner, RHP | Brewers
Wagner will make a start for the Brewers this afternoon after being promoted straight from Double-A Lance McCullers style. He had a 2.01 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 53.2 innings this year in the minors, and walked only 2.5 per nine. He’s not a prospect I’m really excited about, but he could be worth a spot start in deeper formats.
Robert Stephenson, RHP | Reds
Stephenson has had his share of rocky outings to start the season, but has now posted double-digit strikeout totals in each of his last two starts. Control continues to be a major issue. In 2014 he posted a 4.9 BB/9 and this year that number has climbed to a 5.8 BB/9.
Jose De Leon, RHP | Dodgers
I mentioned two weeks ago that De Leon could be looking at a promotion to Double-A. He got his first start there this past week and struck out 11 batters in seven innings. Did I mention you should pick him up in your dynasty league? The 22-year-old now has a 13.7 K/9 and a 2.1 BB/9 on the year.
Dylan Bundy, RHP | Orioles
The Orioles’ top pitching prospect hit the minor league disabled list this week with shoulder soreness. Legend has it that thousands of years ago the god of pitching prospects, Slurvius, was sitting under a tree when a bird shat upon his well-groomed beard. That bird was an oriole, and since that day there has been a curse on the kingdom of Baltimore. Flash forward to 2015. Jake Arrieta looks solid for the Cubs, Eduardo Rodriguez looks fine for the Red Sox, and both Bundy and Hunter Harvey are effed.
Derek Fisher, OF | Astros
Fisher went turbo in his debut for Lancaster (A+) last night. The 21-year-old was 4-for-6 with three homers (two grand slams) and 12 RBIs! According to tweets from the game, all three dingers went to different parts of the field as well. Today might not be the best day to try to trade for him as his owners are probably too busy having the box score framed at a local Things Remembered. The Cal League (Lancaster especially) is a hitter’s paradise. Expect the young outfielder to have some more big games this summer.
J.P. Crawford, SS | Phillies
The Phillies promoted Crawford to Double-A Reading and I’ve promoted him to #1 in my heart with Franco’s arrival in the rear-view. Crawford is now the youngest player in the Eastern League. The jump to Double-A is one of the hardest, so we’ll keep an eye on how he handles the tougher competition.
Alex Meyer, RHP | Twins
Meyer recently moved to the bullpen at Triple-A Rochester, and has responded with 1.1 clean innings (three strikeouts). The 25-year-old Meyer was already looking like a 2015 call-up, and the switch could speed up his arrival to the bigs should he have continued success. I don’t want to use the ‘c’ word, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Meyer get some high-leverage innings down the road either.
Michael Conforto, OF | Mets
Conforto was promoted to Double-A after slashing .283/.350/.462 with seven homers and 12 doubles in the Florida State League (A+). One of the best fantasy prospects from last year’s draft, Conforto could force his way into the Mets’ outfield next year.
with the latest news of baez playing 3rd,when do you see him coming up,thanks
I guess it really could be any time, so it’s hard to say. I’d bet on them giving him at least a week or two at the position though.
@Maikel:great ,and thanx
no problem
what are your thoughts on Jacob Lindgren and Cam Bedrosian? I know lindgren vaulted up lots of prospect lists during the offseason/spring. been reading he has closer stuff. hear the same about bedrosian. my current bullpen looks like this.
Andrew Miller, Betances, Giles, Strickland, Grimm, Capps, Cingrani, McAllister, Maurer. The last 3 occupy SP slots and help me rack up the holds. Can you see dropping anyone for Lindgren? Bedrosian?
This is a dynasty league, counts holds. Thanks for any feedback, much appreciated. Can’t wait for your next article.
Have you heard anything about when Adrian Rondon will start playing in minor league games? What do you know about his scouting report? Thanks for the great work you do.
i’m watching fiers for the third time this year against STL. it’s very easy to see why his whip is so high all year (i think he’s had one really good whip game, many many bad ones), he’s very often behind in counts. Of course if he were to get just the wrong kind of bad ump he might K 15 guys a game, he’s not far from zone often.
makes sense
@Mike: actually this is the most efficient i’ve seen fiers look this year. less K’s, almost no walks, less than 80 after 5. they are making semi-decent contact (some liners right at people, but no deep flys)
20 team dynasty.

1. to DL beltre i have to activate Rios, i’m guessing inciarte is the drop there, so that i can bring up gallo
2. the other option is to keep inciarte and Rios, but leave gallo down
3. If i bring gallo up who’s my best add for NA stash till gallo goes back down (just in case he doesn’t). i also have profar/a.jax/tapia in DL or NA slots. i want to do t.anderson, but he just got dropped by a guy being enforced into not putting NA guys in active slots (he had 9 NA guys with 5 slots) and won’t come off waivers till the 3rd. So my choice before gallo gets his NA tag removed are renfroe/margot/mondesi/piscotty from top 50, but i’m pretty good in OF. NA pitchers are heaney/urias. Options outside top 50 are adames/k.stewart/newcomb/d.robertson (TB)/sims/b.davidson/wall/o.arcia (SS). man you really get to see just how many of these guys yahoo doesn’t have yet when you go and look into your top 300.
@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: just realized i’m about to make a RP change anyway, so i can wait till the 3rd, waiver anderson, NA him and get my RP option, unless you think those others are better for my roster.
1. Keep Gallo down
Agree with Grey…I love Gallo, but unless he rakes like crazy he’s going back to the minors once Beltre is back. I’m really surprised by the callup to be honest.
@Mike: this is regular yahoo league, so i’m just making sure you know i could put him back down immediately when beltre’s back. Franco would be starting everyday or 2-3 weeks, which is fine if he starts hitting again.
gotcha…I’d take Anderson if that’s the route you’re taking. He needs to be owned
@Mike: anderson would only stick in NA slot if either
1. gallo stays up (but then i got a weird problem with beltre/franco/gallo when beltre comes back)
2. i keep anderson over heaney (which might be smart)
other SP pitchers are hughes/liriano/quintana/bradley/c.anderson/hammel with urias/heaney in NA slots and darvish/d.holland in DL slots. really with all those SP coming back or up over next 1.5 years i might be better off with anderson anyway, esp in case profar doesn’t hit his form at some point. All i have to lose is Inciarte who was found in free agency. When i first asked did you assume it was one of those leagues where once you call somebody up you can’t put him back down? (i wouldn’t even think of bring Gallo up yet in one of those type of leagues)
I’d keep Anderson over Heaney yeah. I didn’t assume that, I just didn’t want you to drop a decent MLB piece for a guy that goes back down in two weeks and might K 40% of the time in the two weeks he’s here :)
@Mike: yeah, really wish anderson was dropped 2 days before (he was only added when this one team who’s fairly out of competition decided to start hoarding NA’s a few weeks ago (he didn’t realize it was against rules). Now i gotta either wait till Gallo goes back down to grab Anderson or drop Inciarte.
I’d wait if you can…
@Mike: probably can since nobody had added anderson all year except that team that attempted the hoarding back in mid april.
I’m surprised, but that’s good
JOEY GALLO GETTING THE CALL!!!! (all caps to express my excitement)
haha wow! *tears clothes off and runs into the street with giant foam finger*
A lot of Seager talk, but what are your thoughts on Lindor? Also, who is more valuable this year and in the long run? You’re the man now dog…PUNCH THE KEYS!!!
ha! thanks!
I like Lindor…should be up late June, maybe sooner. AVG/SB type that might run into double digit homers every now and then. I do like Seager more than him in the long run though…more power.
took over a 14 team dynasty league H2H team with hits/doubles/triples/BB’s/put outs (so DH’s lose value big time)/assists/outfield assists/double plays turned for hitters added and holds/QS/k per 9/double plays turned/relief wins/ relief appearances for pitchers.

Other than obvious stuff like dropping feliz (for walden stash)/d.peralta/wilson/desclafani, and moving rodon out of RP slot to replace with useful RP
1. i’ll be stashing 5 NA guys, highest by your rankings are: sano/dahl/crawford/tapia/(mazara not in yahoo)/bell. does dahl move down list (and where to if so).
2. judging by my roster i’m weakest at RF/1B. Sano can move C.davis to 1st for next year with howard getting dropped. this would give edge to bell/a.jackson over tapia/dahl, and i’m pretty well at SS, which could move some of these guys over crawford. (segura/kang/sano)
3. this team so far has been very weak at runs/AVG/hits but way too good at Steals.
drop d.peralta or deshields or rajai first for 13th pitcher? I have to by rules have 3 or 4 out of 4 BN spots be hitters to prevent hoarding.
@A Wesley Snipes Life: i didn’t mean i’d drop rodon, hell no, he’d become one of my 5 or 6 SP, not in a RP slot. RP are better served getting holds.

Hey Mikey,
You see Gallo maybe coming up sooner (as in this year) with the LF talk? Would you roster him over Matz in a partial keeper? (15 teams keep 11)
@nightpandas: any chance he fills in with Beltre out a few weeks?
They could move Rosales to third and bring Odor back up to split time with Alberto at 2B. DeShields is also an option at 2B. A Gallo debut would be pretty awesome though.
Alberto can also play third I believe…
hmmm…yeah I’d take him over Matz in a keep 11
So with that Dahl pain he has been cut in my league. Do you still take him over Lance(alot) McCullers on farms?
oh yeah for sure
@Mike: Its just difficult to pick up a guy who’s out for the year and seemingly many many years away from the show now. What do you put his ETA as, was 2017 before this injury, now 2018? Kid has trouble staying healthy too.

Hi Mike,
Do you prefer Giolito or Schwarber where Schwarber could be kept an extra year compared to Giolito? Thanks!
WT
I’d lean Schwarber for the extra year of control
Hi Mike. Your prospect posts/rankings are the best! Question: Would it make me CeeLo crazy that I’ve offered JoFer for Correa straight up? Now tell me do I really want to keep Correa for ever? Or should I just take my Pitcher, forget about hittin’, and run…
thanks! it’s not crazy, but hitters tend to be safer bets than pitchers
Excellent prospect piece; have to say you have been an important component of the building of my team! Collecting opinions regarding a trade I have been offered. Value your opinion especially since it’s dealing with a lot of recently graduated prospects. ESPN head-head, 5X5, 6 man keep forever league, starting lineup = C,1b,2b,3b,SS,5 OF,1 Utility (any bat), 5 SP, 4 RP. The league has been around for several years and through trades, decent management and some luck I have developed a pretty nice team.
Relevant information: I currently roster Goldy, Rizzo, Arenado and Bryant (due to lineup restrictions I can’t start them all). I have been hoping Bryant would get some more time in the OF, but that has not happened as of yet
-I have been offered his David Price and Joc Pederson for my Arenado and Will Myers
-My current starting OF’s are Stanton, Cutch, Pollock, Yellich and Bruce (Myers on DL)
-Current Starting Pitchers are: Kluber, Cole, Arrieta, Syndergaard, Mchugh, Bucholz, Chavez (although I use him as a RP)
-Myers wrist injury is worrisome, although he was tearing it up before he was hurt. Argument could be made that he was/is better than Pederson.
Sorry for the lengthy explanation, given the situation what do you think of the offer?
thanks! no worries
tough one….I like the Myers side though
@Mike:
Thanks appeciate the insight … I knew it was close; J-Foh said he loves the Joc/Price side. Do you mind sharing your thoughts as to why you prefer the Myers/Arenado side? Thanks in advance!
No problem :)
Bryant could shift to OF which solves your logjam and guys like Arenado at 3B don’t grow on trees. So for me it’s about holding on to him, especially since you’ve already got solid pitching.
Hey Mike, love your posts. They always come in handy for my keeper league! Speaking of which, I ran a trade question by j-foh and he suggested I run it by you. Here’s my copy-paste:
I’m trying to trade for Soler in my keeper points league, what do you think of this…
Rodon (2017), Polanco (2016) and Rusney (2016) for Soler (2017) and Hamilton (2015)
I’m in contention this year (so Billy has value) but also feel that Soler is the best keeper. Am I giving up too much? I’d like to add a pitcher on his side but his pitching sucks. Best is Hughes (2015)… Would that make it worth it or still giving too much?
Thanks for your thoughts!
thanks! I think it’s steep. I like the Polanco side.
@Mike: Ya, I thought it was a lot. I’m just bothered by Rodon’s control issues and think this might be the only chance to buy low on Soler. I’d do the swap straight up but know the other owner won’t. What do you think about Rodon (2017) and one of Polanco/Rusney (both 2016) for Soler (2017)? (Who do you prefer between Polanco and Rusney? Also, am I too high on Soler?)
Thanks a bunch Mike.
nah you’re not too high on him….I like him a lot too. ya know what? go for it dude. You get an extra year of Soler over Rusney and Polanco anyway.
I guess in the short term it depends on how badly you need the steals, but both Polanco and Rusney can run a little bit
@Mike: It’s a points league so not chasing any particular categories. For reference Polanco, Soler and Hamilton all have roughly the same points on the year
cool, yeah I’d go for it. Is pitching worth a lot in this league? That’s the only thing you might want to think about with Rodon bieng included in the package.
@Mike: Having pitching depth is really important, but points are pretty balanced. As in any other league I prefer to have the bat, especially when pitching is deep as hell. The only worry is that Rodon suddenly drastically improves his control and becomes a true ace.
Thanks for all the input, much appreciated!
anytime…good luck!
Which side of the trade do you like better in a dynasty keep everyone league. Michael Taylor for Nathan Karns? I’d be the one trading Taylor. I don’t necessarily need Taylor because I have Austin Meadows, Nick Williams and Jordan Patterson on my minor league rosters. I think Meadows will become a better fantasy player than Taylor. I don’t believe in Taylor very much he K’s so much can’t hit for average also I feel he was producing good numbers in the minors because he is a little older than most prospects. I also have Pagan holding down the fort until he comes up next year or so..? However do you think I gave up Taylor without getting much in return?
Always look forward to reading your prospect columns Mike!
Sorry in advanced that ended up being a little longer than expected lol
@Zac: Also another quick question would you drop Fiers for Eddie Rosario who has 2nd and LF and looks like he’ll be getting RF eligibility here soon?
@Zac: I don’t know why Rosario was dropped in a dynasty keep all league with 20 teams and minor league rosters
sounds fine if you’re pitching is tight
thanks! I like Taylor over Karns, personally
Best add for NA spot in 12 team h2h No keeper. Domonic brown, baez, Seager, Heaney , Buxton , Buck Farmer, Steven Matz, Peter O Brien, Marco Gonzalez, Brian Johnson

Hey Mike, always love the prospect updates. Thank you!
Looking for your thoughts on Grichuk in a dynasty league. Just inquired about him and the owner is willing to sell. What is a reasonable price to pay for him? Grichuk owner is looking for pitching. Should I offer up Dylan Bundy? I also have Giolito, Taillon, Wisler in my minors. Other pitchers I’m willing to sell include Kazmir, Colome, Chi-Chi Gonzalez. Any of those fair to offer up for Grichuk? Thanks for your help.
no problem! I’d look to move Colome or Gonzalez before Bundy, but I like Grichuk.
@WalleyWorld: Same leauge, getting an offer of Will Myers for my Eric Hosmer. Having a hard time pulling the trigger, i really like both players.
it’s fair. I like Myers a little more long term
Thanks for the updates Mike,
A few questions.
1. Is Nola going to be brought up anytime soon?
2. Same question for singleton
3. I know closers involve a lot of luck but please pick two: Boxberger-KROD-Grilli-It’s only tough because KROD is good and the crew has to win a few more game this year right? LOL
1. I’m thinking July/August
2. He could be up much sooner
3. Krod, Box for me. I think Grilli gets moved.
Thanks!
no problem
Also, would you drop Phelps to stash Nola?
eh, in a redraft not yet
Thanks for the reliable info. I now believe my size and hatred can be blamed on an oversized spleen.
black bile is a bitch
@Mike: De Leon got drafted right before I was going to take him in the nasty. The Dodgers got ops
Bummer…yeah betweeen him and Urias, Holmes they’ve got some studly arms
@Mike: some idiot at BR said trading him to Oakland to get Kazmir is a smart play.
Hey Mike. Did you see the Dahl collision? I haven’t and I can’t picture how he gets a concussion and ruptures his spleen, I mean, that’s gotta be one crazy collision. Does this change anything for you on his long term potential? Probably not eh?
Can you rank Conforto, Dahl, Margot, Alex Jackson, and DJ Peterson on long term potential? I’m assuming they all start next year in the minors.
As always, thanks Mike!
In a 20 team h2h dynasty league should I drop Pompey for Conforto?
they’re different profiles and Pompey is closer, but for next year they could actually be pretty close in value.
Which player would be better to stash on the DL, Feliz or Doolittle? thanks
ugh…I guess Doolittle
I always love the write ups Mike. Keeping up with Prospects is one of my favorite things about Baseball, not to mention fantasy. Your write ups make it a lot easier to see who I want to follow up on.
Quick trade question for a Keeper league with no keeper limit or restrictions. Should I be trying to trade for Jose Fernandez now at the beginning of his rehab? All indications so far look like he’s healthy. I assume the skill will find its way back.
I was thinking about offering Richards with a kicker? Current staff is: Richards, Rodon, Salazar, K Hendricks, Happ, Roark, Cole, Syndergard, Arrieta with Stroman on the DL with the intent to keep him. 12 team H2H
Thanks! That’s a tough one, I like JFer over Richards and he’s younger…but the gap between them isn’t huge and Richards will likely be more valuable ROS in 2015…so I’d keep the kicker cheap.
Hey Mike, I always look forward to this column.
I’m in an NL-Only H2H Auction league w/ 5 Keepers. Last week I wrote about losing Wright and Alvarez, w/ Dickerson and Myers on the DL. Since then I have lost Peralta and K. Davis. Somehow I am still in 3rd with a possibility of going 7-3 (probably will go 5-5 as my guys take weekends off).
I grabbed Asche to help in the OF, but would like to also grab Peraza in the next week to beat the other guys. I think he’d be a good trading chip ($1) to land another decent bat or arm for the stretch.
I appreciate your thoughts on the right time to make a move for Peraza. Given my line up, I could ride w/o a RP while he stews a little more.

@Mike:Thanks for the reply. I’ve put in my waiver pick to grab Garza tomorrow as I’m desperate for SP right now and I think he’ll be fine as a spot starter until he figures things out. I’d probably drop Perez. Then I could see dropping Cishek or even Marco once STL decides what to do with him.

Thanks for the updates, Mike.
Do you think Ben Lively could be a rotation guy for the Phils?
Also, wondering if there are any under-the-radar SPs you think could have an impact in 2016 and worth targeting in trades. Had some bad luck so far in dynasty and starting to look ahead. (Eagerly awaiting the arrival of Giolito and Severino.)
anytime…sure, Lively could be a back of the rotation guy
2016? I’d look at Hoffman although I don’t know how under the radar he really is. Braden Shipley is another name that comes to mind.
is it time to drop boegarts?
if so, would you drop him for Cory seager…..how imminent is seager’s mlb arrival?
I’d hold Bogey…my best guess on Seager is July
@Mike:
Thanks

Points league, rank these pitchers ROS- Desclafani, Bolsinger, McCullers, Rodon, & Chris Young. Thx!
While the Cubs seem to be leaving the possibility open for Edwards to start again, I get the sense that he is a better fit in relief. Given his profile and where their bullpen is at, I see him closing games by the end of this season. Thoughts?
I’ve heard that too and it’s one of the reasons he didn’t make the top 10 this offseason. As far as closing this year, I think they’ll probably stick with Rondon and Strop minus some kind of trade activity.
Who is the better keeper moving forward? Marcus semien rd 20 or Josh reddick rd 27? (Can only keep for 2 years)
I’d take Reddick there
Just traded for Seager and Moncada in a dynasty yd. I’m 30 pts back of 5th and it’s not even June yet. It’s a dynasty with no penalty but we can only keep 15. Flipped Baez and Graveman for Moncada. Felt pretty good about that one. The second one I gave up quite a bit. Traded Keuchel and Travis for Seager and a 3rd rounder. But I also have knowledge that there are gonna be some really good players thrown back after this year. Secondly i don’t think I would have been able to keep Keuchel.
That’s a nice trade for Moncada and I think you did fine in the second one as well if you’re thinking more long-term
Great write up as always, Mike!
I decided to stash Aaron Nola in my keeper league. His numbers look good so far in AA, but only 50 K’s in 65 innings. Do you think he’ll become more of a K guy? Or is he more of a pitch to weak contact type?
Also, curious your thoughts on Chi Chi’s first start yesterday?
thanks! I like Chi-Chi and it was kind of what I expected…lots of pitches and lots of grounders
Nola is probably going to settle in around 7ish K/9 if I had to guess, but his control and ratios should be good enough to make him worth owning in the back of a fantasy rotation in most leagues
Also, which would you trade away…Souza or Avisail G.? Thanks.
@Rufus Xavier Sasparilla: he mentioned above he’d move souza before avisail.
Thanks for the column and answering Q’s!
Sano Q Time. Love this guy, he’s on top of the lists, but seems to not get a lot of ink.
I have Baez on my Bench, but Sano is on the wire. All things equal, who do you like better this year and going forward? Sano or Javier Baez? PS – I do think Javier will be a post hype sleeper and turn it around, or get traded to another team. Imagine him in Coors? lol.
Thanks!
no problem
tough one…Baez might be better sooner, but if I had to choose one long term in a vacuum it would probably be Sano.
Stash question, also love the prospect write ups every time. 10 team with one dl spot. Nobody hurt right now so would you use the spot to hold any of these guys and in what order? V mart, wright, oswaldo, Jennings, latos, morrow, or fister. 6×6 obp league. I dropped latos earlier cause he sucks. Thanks and write up some reports on my Phillies prospects for we are hopeless in these parts. Nola!
thanks! go Phils!

In a dynasty league, trade my Souza for Daniel Norris? Seem fair? I need some SPs. He has Taillon, Giolito and Bundy as well. Any of those more tempting? I don’t think I could get Giolito. Thanks!
hmmm. I’d take Bundy over Norris if you can’t get Giolito. Taillon probably more of a coin flip with Norris. I’d move Souza before Avisail.
@Mike: Thanks. I always find valuing prospects, especially pitching, to be difficult.
you’re welcome…and you’re right!

I’d check in with SON, but off the top of my head CMart feels like the better play
Hola Mike,
Better to hold Buxton or Seager in a redraft points league? Who gets the call first?
I pretty much had them neck and neck in last week’s rankings, so I’d go by whatever position you need more help at.
@Jack the Ripper: i’ve gone back and forth on that one too lately. I’m worried seager gets constant at bats for leagues with few bench spots allocated for hitters. sort of like with guerrero.
What are your thoughts on Blake Snell? Guy is dominating AA. Is he worth grabbing in a dynasty? Thanks!
Man, you’re right about the O’s problem with young starting pitchers. It would be staggering if they drafted Tillman, Arrieta, Matusz, Britton, Bundy, Harvey, Rodriguez and Gausman and not a single one wound up being a legit ace for them. Is it just horrifyingly awful luck, or do they have some kind of organizational philosophy that messes things up?
I have no idea what it is to be honest. A lot of pitching prospects fail, a lot of them. But yeah, the have a bad mojo happening and I didn’t even remember to include Gausman in that blurb!
I think the thing that has to be frustrating for O’s fans is the fact that other orgs seem to be seeing things / doing things with some of these arms that help them reach their potential, but that happens sometimes too. Carrasco was a Phils prospect back in the day and certainly didn’t look like he’d end up being the guy the Indians roll out now.
@Mike: If you add in the injury setbacks to Wieters, Machado, and even a guy like Nolan Reimold it’s pretty clear that Camden Yard is built on an Indian burial ground.
haha…for real!
Hey, let’s get the Schwarber questions out of the way.
How does this guy not play LF and soon for the cubs? He just smacked 2 more HR’s last night, his bat is as good or if not better thank Bryant’s, no? Just curious if he is a must stash now like Correa the way the Cubs are in win now mode.
1.Fowler(CF)
2.Russell(2B)
3.Bryant(3B)
4.Rizzo(1B)
5.Soler(RF)
6.Schwarber(LF)
7.Montero©
8.Pitcher
9.Castro or Baez (SS)
Wowser!
Schwarber’s bat is awesome, but as far as position here’s the latest quote from their director of player development…
“With all the work he’s done in the offseason and spring training and big league camp, and going into this year and what he’s done so far this year, we’re more certain than ever that he’s going to stay behind the plate long-term. We’re committed to that right now,” Madison said.
@MIKE:
The Cubs are going to give Schwar every opportunity to stick at catcher. If you’ve watched Bryant play third this year you know he is eventually going to have to shift to left field. That leaves Schwar whith no position if he doesn’t stay behind the plate.
Mike, thanks as always for prospects update. Phils Q: how is Giles looking? Keep holding in keeper?
FB velo a tick down from last year, using the FB a little more, SL a little less and hitters are making more contact off him this year. I think my biggest concern with him is the walks, but he still doesn’t give up homers and I think there’s a good chance he’s still the closer by the end of the year. I’m holding in keepers, yes.
last year hitters were batting .101 against his slider….this year .265
That’s another big difference and obviously that pitch is going to be a key to his success. If I remember right, that was also the pitch that kind of “came out of nowhere” last season as far as how nasty it was, so hopefully he gets some of that going again
Would you drop dahl foe leon?
Could also drop margot or matz?
nah, I’d hold those three
