The Fantasy Baseball War Room is back!  I’m not saying the Fantasy Baseball War Room is back, as in, is a butt.  So, if Sir Mix-A-Lot is reading, I’m truly sorry for the confusion.  Our Fantasy Baseball War Room is one part draft tool, one part fantasy team evaluator, one part fantasy junkie’s s’s and g’s tool, one part holy, two parts smokes, three parts… How many parts is that so far?  Cause it’s only really seven parts total.  I think there’s one part kill-your-day-with-this-war-room-thing-a-maboob-as-a-pinwheel-spins in there too.  Essentially, this helps you practice building a fantasy baseball team.

If you’re unfamiliar with our Fantasy Baseball War Room, it’s a draft tool to help you track where you are at any moment in a draft.  It shows you if you have too many steals, homers… Or if your ERA or WHIP are too low.  Or too high.  Or if your lamb is still rare or should be turned (results vary on lamb).  If you’ve already drafted a team, go into the War Room, enter your team and it shows you exactly how stacked/dreadful the team is.  If you want to practice mocking for your Razzball Commenter League, do that too.  (Fantrax waived $80 fees for us, so go join some Razzball Commenter Leagues!)  If you’re in the middle of a draft, you can filter which guys are left that have the most home runs according to my projections.  Or the most steals, or the most runs or the most whatever (only applicable if “Whatever” is a category in your league).  If you’re in a bind, go into a Warm Room and take a shvitz.  Ah…That’s better!  There might be some bugs in our Fantasy Baseball War Room, just comment here and we’ll look into fixes.  The default projections are mine from the 2019 fantasy baseball rankings.  Also, Rudy’s projections are now up!  They can be found at my ranking page that I just linked to or here:  hitter projections and pitcher projections.  There, you’ll see rankings for every conceivable league (OBP, OPS, Holds, etc).  Anyway, here’s the step by step instructions on how to use the Fantasy Baseball War Room:

  • Sign up. If you get a message that says your email is already in the system and you don’t remember the password, just use a new email or a made-up email.  It doesn’t really matter.  It says to email us to retrieve your password, but I have to be honest, I’m not retrieving shizz.  Repeat, just make a New User and make up a fake email.  We’re not emailing you anyway.
  • Choose what kind of team you want to draft. How many catchers, outfielders, middle infielders, etc. ESPN and Yahoo are for position eligibility. It doesn’t mean you’re playing there. ESPN is 20 games started; Yahoo is 5 started and 10 games played. So that means ESPN and CBS are the same. Or wherever you play that uses 20 or 10 game eligibility.
  • Now as you draft players, click Draft next to their name. If a player is eligible at more than one position, drop down the menu to the position you want them at.  If you can’t find a player, search for them at the top.  As Jeff Francoeur would say, voila!  Or if you’re a Twins fan, Frank Voila!
  • Get as close to the Totals as you can.
  • Wanna start again? Delete the Team, by scrolling to the right of the player search at the top and a down arrow will appear. Click that, then click the pinwheel under ‘Taken” and delete team or sign out. We got pinwheels! Wanna throw your computer out the window from excitement?  Go for it!  For those that missed it in the first bullet point, if you forget your password, Create New User and make up a fake email.  Do not email me.
  • If you get this error page, then your shizz is broke and you need to buy a new computer.  But, if you don’t want to buy a new computer, you should clear your cookies and start again.  Likely what happened is you’re logged into the app still from an old version.  Less likely, you still have the same internet cache from last year and haven’t cleared your cookies once in 12 months.  I’m not judging, Cust kayin’.

    Grey!!!

Again, what a night, what a year. This is really great. So happy to be here.

    a. Got 2/3 from yesterday. Didn’t get Khris. Oh well. Question?

In a H2H weekly locks points league, who is better?

    1. Adam Eaton
    2. Devers

    b. The best John Lennon quote ever for February 12

Reporter: What’s your impression of the American public, you’ve been here for a while now?

    Lennon: They are the wildest.

    Reporter: Why?

Lennon: I don’t know. Tonight was bombs, ridiculous.

    Reporter: How (do you mean)?

Lennon: Well there were 8000 people all screaming and shouting at once and we’re trying to shout louder than them with microphones. We still couldn’t beat them.

Reporter: Was America something like what you thought it would be?

Lennon: No, nothing like I thought it would be. Thought it be would much quieter. I thought that we would have to grow on everyone. But everybody seems to know us all as if we’ve been here for years.

    c. Subdued Norm MacDonald quote of the day for February 12

    1. This week in South Africa, Winnie Mandela was removed from the new government by her husband President Nelson Mandela. A curious Bill Clinton later called Mr Mandela to find out how exactly you go about doing something like that.

    2. In medical news this week, scientists report there may soon be a vaccine for drug addicts, which completely eliminates the craving for cocaine. They caution however that the vaccine is extremely dangerous, highly addictive and costs 10000 $ per gram.

    3. This week in the O.J. Simpson trial, the infamous bloody glove was finally introduced into evidence and O.J. didn’t help his case any by blurting out: ‘There it is, I’ve been looking all over for that thing.’

    4. And a new shocker in the O.J. Simpson trial this afternoon Judge Lance Ito dismissed yet another juror, a 45-year old African-American male for failing to tell the court that he had once worked for Hertz rent-a-car and that he had once held Nicole Brown Simpson’s glasses while O.J. killed her.

    5. In a bid to boost low attendance, officials at the New Jersey State aquarium have announced plans for a 4-million dollar face lift. In addition, flashing neon signs will be placed outside the aquarium stating that the fish are quote all nude, all the time.

    6. Last week Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson visited the Big Apple and showed off her 14 pound weight loss. Hopefully this will not interfere with her official duties of sitting on her fat ass all day long.

    7. Julia Roberts told reporters this week that her marriage to Lyle Lovett has been over for quite some time. The key moment came when she realized that she was Julia Roberts and that he was Lyle Lovett.

Better quote than the one above for John Lennon!

Great job to team razzball on this!

Hey Grey – in a keep 7 forever league ($3 annual inflation), I was offered a $5 Mondesi and $6 Bellinger for my $34 Betts (who would likely go for 50-60 in auction). Doing the trade would also mean that I don’t get to keep my current 7th guy, who would be $25 Cole $11 Clev or $4 Chapman.

Gotta hold Betts there despite the talent being dangled, right?

      • Super Terrific Carpal Tunnel Virusy Box vs Mail Robot (who wins) says:
        (link)

        @LennyDykstraIsJustMisunderstood: it’s a mashup of
        – the “super terrific carpel tunnel” part came from the seinfeld episode where jerry starts to get carpel tunnel from having to endorse an extremely large amount of checks with a very small balance since he was on some japanese show called the super fun happy hour (or something just like that).

        – mail robot was a mail robot on the americans (if i get rich this is the first thing i’m buying for my house): https://imgur.com/r/TheAmericans/BPtA5Ao, https://twitter.com/fbimailrobot

        – virusy box references the little annoying as shit fox sports ad box that they paid to put on razzball for (i think) the majority of last season which at most you could only minimize down to the bottom right of the screen (in chrome anyway, i have no idea what it’s size/influence on your entire sightline might’ve been in other realms). to my knowledge THIS exact pop up box didn’t cause any viruses, but i know for a fact that other similar ones have and do. you couldn’t get rid of the box entirely no matter what you did (and i asked how to, as did others).

so the joke was pitting this small little (virusy similar) pop up box technology vs mail robot.

      • Super Terrific Carpal Tunnel Virusy Box vs Mail Robot (who wins) says:
        (link)

@Grey: this is actually easy to check, just average the words per blurb both before and after yesterday (i’ve already done this without actually doing it as i was a few days behind on the baseball news cycle), it does look the same, just not to my silly eyes tricking me with the different fonts/look.

@LastPlace: a lot depends on if they resign sergio romo (25 saves 2018) or not. With the rays signing morton idk how much they use that 1 inning opener move, at least early on in the season. And if they pay romo as a free agent and hes getting the job done it would make sense he closes for them most often.

@Random Collmenter:Depends on number of keepers, conditions on keepers (e.g., if salaries accelerate year to year or you are limited in total number of years you can keep a player), and total budget, but agree with Grey that it does not sound like unreasonable return for Arenedo for most keeoer leagues if you are trying to unload salary..

    • The Harrow says:
      (link)

@LennyDykstraIsJustMisunderstood: when one guy is refusing 30 mil for 10 years it’ll take a while. most teams literally can’t afford that, and the ones who can are finally smart enough to realize 10 years at that rate is nuts. it’s likely machado is waiting to see what harper gets as well (or harper with machado too). the greed is large

SF appears to be offering a possibly larger yearly amount but not for the crazy years (on harper). this is exactly how the teams should go about this, it’s fine to pay these 2 like 40 or something per year (basing that large number on what some others make) but not in the years when their value will be probably like 3-4 mil or something.

      • LennyDykstraIsJustMisunderstood says:
        (link)

        @The Harrow:

Thanks and you are right………..I do get what they are doing. As riduculous as salaries are i do not have a problem with a player/team trying to maximize their value. I’m just complaining………….To me watching and speculating on all the maneuvers during the off season is fun when nothing is going on but now they are throwing the ball around put up or shut up.

        • The Harrow says:
          (link)

@LennyDykstraIsJustMisunderstood: harper’s case alone is spectacularly stupid, if ANYBODY was willing to pay more than the 30 per/10 years WAS already offered they would have by now (assuming that number is real and not noise). in fact the fact that he hasn’t just gone back and taken that exact number is probably proof of it BEING noise (assuming he’s actually intelligent person and/or his agent is).

it’s also possible WAS did offer that exact number, but then retracted it later, in which case it’s not insane that he’s still trying for similar. or maybe he just hates the WAS brass and wants similar offer from somebody else that hasn’t arrived yet (nor likely will either).

Prolly a temp error bc a lot of people are using it

    • Eli Man Penguin Boy says:
      (link)

@Sean: i get those nearly constantly, you (at least in chrome, can’t speak to others) have to VERY often clean the cookies. it also helps to wipe computer clean right (c-cleaner, nothing fancy) before you start an actual draft when using it. i’m basing this on the prior say 4-5 years of using it. it could be different now. restarting is never a bad idea after the clean either.

      • Eli Man Penguin Boy says:
        (link)

@Eli Man Penguin Boy: i never thought of that though, if i tend to use it in peak hours and that causes errors, that might’ve explained my errors for 4-5 years previous to now.

    Grey,

Nice work, as usual! Need your expertise with keepers, 12 team H2H league. Stat cats: R, RBI, SB, BB, AVG, & SLG. Keepers lose two rounds every year they are kept.

Can only keep 2 hitters from:
    Realmuto (16th)
    Albies (11th)
    Hoskins (12th)
    Vlad (21st)
    Hanigar (14th)
    Robles (22nd)

I think Vlad is a no brainer, I’ll be reaping from him for a decade. But idk about the others. I am leaning Hoskins, as the immediate reward, and keep him for a 4-5 years… but Robles with the 22nd has me intrigued. Think its worth holding on to Robles for what he could be in a few years? Or take the win now approach with Hoskins (or any of the others)?

    Thanks as always!

16 team keeper league, yahoo, 5×5, keep 5.

    I’m keeping these 5..
Manny Machado, Juan Soto, Whit Merrified, Lorenzo Cain, Aaron Nola.

should I trade Lozenzo Cain to get 3B Eugenio Suarez?

Somehow over the weekend I made some trades and as of now I sit with 9 keepers of Baez, Bregman, Machado, Benentendi, Conforto, Snell, Buehler, Folty, and Glasnow. Feeling pretty good about this situation. I am not sure if I can make any deals to improve but if I could where do you think I should target. Teams seems to be platooning OF more and more and 1st base is a wasteland. 12 team 6×6 with OPS and QS,

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Looks solid, is it a 9 keeper league?

      • Dubs23 says:
        (link)

@Grey: Yes. I’m a little torn about going 5/4 or 6/3 for hitters/pitchers but it seems like guys will be keeping pitching. My other hitter options currently if I only kept 3 pitchers would be Mazara $6, Odor $16 (don’t need another MI), Gallo ($25 I think is to much), and Marte ($37 is too much).

        • Grey

          Grey says:

  29. Salvatore Grieco says:
    (link)

Hey Grey.. hope all is well. You suggested I keep Bryant, Mondesi, Dahl, Degrom, and Buehler.. when my draft comes up i should be picking 3rd. Players put back in the pool will be Freeman, Goldshmidt, Machado, Arenado, Altuve, and Blackmon. I am assuming Arenado and Machado will go unless someone takes pitching.. Sherzer and Verlander will be available most likely.. That being said who would you take if you were me based on my team structure from the keepers who would you grab from that group.

U see the shit about degrom?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      What’s that?

      • Wally Pipp says:
        (link)

@Grey: that he and his agent are giving the mets til the start of the season to work out a long term extension, and if they cant come to an agreement degrom is goimg to put a self imposed cap on his innings pitched.

About time someome standing up to to the owners. The players like degrom get screwed.

        • Eli Man Penguin Boy says:
          (link)

@Wally Pipp: yeah he got to watch firsthand when harvey had a limit but then went off of it. that was the last time harvey was a good pitcher.

          – and unlike the teams correctly not wanting to pay a player for his future value (when it’ll be quite a bit weaker than it is now cough cough machado/harper) degrom has great value RIGHT NOW, and this is when he should be paid for it. this is the way to do it, go by what you are comfortable with putting your body through unless the team wants to pay more for more.

          • Eli Man Penguin Boy says:
            (link)

@Eli Man Penguin Boy: RP are even more likely to get burned out, but of course they tend to have less contract leverage. guys getting sent out there 5 times a week sometimes, those guys almost always get ruined, at least for a while.

Grey who’s your early pick for fantasy MVP and not overall fantasy #1…meaning person you could get the latest that has the highest upside. This year’s version of javy Baez who was going in like round 12 and returned what was it, top 5 value?

For me a few names come to mind mainly Puig, happ, and Meadows…I’m gonna go real deep and say Ian Happ somehow works his way to everyday PT and ends 35/15. Would love your input though

    Merry Baseball

    • Eli Man Penguin Boy says:
      (link)

@Crime Dog: trusting maddoning to let anybody get guaranteed at bats should probably rule happ out. hell, he’s the kind of twit to take baez’s at bats away from time to time if he has a bad spell (look how many years it took to let him have the at bats he had last year?). puig certainly could be this guy though.

      • Crime Dog says:
        (link)

@Eli Man Penguin Boy: good points. But maybe if Baez can rise above the maddening Happ can too. You’re probably right though.

        • Eli Man Penguin Boy says:
          (link)

@Crime Dog: maybe, or it gets further down the hole similar to matheny/wong where he jerks him around for 4ish years and whatever promise he showed at first goes away completely trying to cowtow for playing time. baez wasn’t given steady every day at bats for a few years. in fact none of their guys except ad russ (due to defense, and even he’s never been allowed near a good part of a lineup) and bryant (what would’ve been called a generational hitting prospect until vlad showed up) ever got consistent playing time for a few years each.

    What’s up Grey?

I just took over a dynasty team in a 12 team standard cat league with 9 keepers……clearly this dude that I took the team over from has never seen your work, as his team is super pitching heavy.

Unfortunately most of the teams have already chosen their keepers, so it’s unlikely I’m going to be able to trade my way out of this problem before the season.

Here are the guys I am considering for keeper spots. No limit on the number of years you can keep someone.

Bats: Baez, Castellanos, Vlad Jr, Robles, Ohtani (ESPN so if he ever pitches again I can use him there too LOL)
Arms: Buehler, Cole, Strasberg, Corbin, Archer

The rest of the team is straight up garbage, save for a couple of guys I can definitely draft back on to my roster later on (Bader, Senzel, Contreras)

So if I can’t make a move, my plan is to dump Archer out of this lot. Agree?

Also, would you trade any of the 4 pitchers I plan on keeping for a bat like Mazara or Haniger?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

I’d lose Archer, and trade Strasburg for one of those bats, but I’d aim higher at first

@FrankGrimes: I wasn’t crazy about a few of them. Rudy’s wasn’t my favorite either. Thought he was light on power and RBIs. Would have waited around the turn on a closer when he took Vasquez and grabbed Castellanos.

              • i preferred rosario to castellanos but i agree w/ what you are saying. should’ve gone OF/RP at 7/8. that was the plan and got distracted by my love for vazquez.

Sorry, it also defaults to 3 P instead of 4. No biggie, just mentioning it. What I am trying to figure out is, should my bench count at all towards my goal? I could see excluding hitters, but my starting 6 and (at least) 3 closers don’t fit in the pitcher slots and some are bench, or do I goal with 5 starters and the 6th is my back-up?
