I don’t know about you but it has been an interesting season to say the least. It’s been a lot of fun writing these posts here for you on Monday morning for the day’s slates and I hope you were able to plug in a few players that helped you take down a slate or two or played a pitcher you were on the fence that got you to the money in the end. The Monday slates are a little different in that they are usually a little lighter on the games played but that sometimes was really useful in finding some of the hidden gems that were out there as you really had to dig a little deeper into some of the lineups. Well no different here as we only have 5 games to choose from 3 on an early slate and 2 on a late slate so I’ll give you some players for both slates today and a pitcher for each of them. The pitcher I will focus on for the late slate is Chris Flexen ($8,600).  Chris has really had an outstanding season for the Mariners and coming out of training camp this year there were some doubts he would actually stick in the rotation the whole season but that’s exactly what he has done. This will be Flexen’s 30th start of the season and looking back at his starts he only has had a couple of starts where he didn’t go at least 5 innings. He has been very consistent limits hard contact and doesn’t walk anybody which limits the runs he gives up. The knock on Flexen in fantasy is he doesn’t strike out enough hitters but against these same Athletics he will face today. In his last start, he struck out 8 A’s in 7 INN of work and got the win and you will definitely be happy with that today. I would start him with confidence especially on this slate.

SP- Cal Quantrill ($10,000) Wow, it’s a hefty price your paying for a pitcher that got traded to the Indians in 2020 in the Mike Clevinger deal from the Padres and it seems like it’s paying dividends in a big way this season as Quantrill who comes from a baseball family has really shined in the 2nd half of the season. Relying on a 95 mph fastball he does a great job of limiting hard contact and mixes in a nice down and away slider to keep the hitters guessing. No problem spending up here for him.

C/1B- Tyler Stephenson ($2,600) Priced very reasonably if he’s in the lineup. Stephenson has hits in his last 4 out of 5 games including a HR and three hits yesterday. Has played in 4 straight games so he might get the day off but he’s in a nice spot against a rookie pitcher today in Overton and the Pirates and that bullpen.

2B-Ty France ($3,100) Good Spot here against a lefty in Cole Irvin who gives up a lot of hard contact and France has hit 9 HR against lefties this season with an .845 OPS.

3B- Ryan McMahon ($3,300) Faces a righty today in Josiah Gray.  18 of his 24 HR have been against a righty and he hasn’t hit one in 13 games so he’s definitely due. Coors Field is always in play here especially on a short slate.

SS-Issac Paredes ($2,300) Need a low cost option look no further than Paredes who just came back up with the major league ballclub last week and broke out yesterday with a couple of hits to lead the Tigers to victory. Faces a lefty veteran today in Keuchel who is prone to giving up some big hits so Paredes could have a good opportunity batting 6th today to drive in a couple of runs.

OF- Robbie Grossman ($3,300) I’m thinking runs will be put up in Detroit today and Grossman will be a big part of that. Batting 3rd in today’s lineup. Grossman has a .845 OPS against lefties and Keuchel will be all over the plate today.

OF- Charlie Blackmon ($3,600) Priced 1K less than Juan Soto here at Coors. I’ll take the discount and think he is due for a big game. Hasn’t hit a HR since Sept 4. when he hit a HR in 3 straight games so he’s lined up for another streak here against a righty Gray where he does the most damage.

OF- Luis Robert ($3,600) Has been seeing the ball incredibly well of late having a 13 game hitting streak snapped Saturday and getting the day off yesterday. He will be rearing to go today batting at the top of the lineup against the Tigers in today’s game. I think he pounds Manning today and gets at least two hits. Make sure you get him in your lineup somewhere today.

UTIL-Myles Straw ($2,800) Priced Reasonably for what you can get here. Is batting 1st today will get on base a couple of times and probably a steal or two. Faces Jackson Kowar who hasn’t won a game yet and is getting hit pretty hard in his rookie season. The Royals are letting him get his lumps in and Straw will have plenty of opportunities to dole it out today.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

A few breezy games in Cleveland and Detroit is all I’m seeing here.
