We saw the first wave of September call ups with headliners in Corbin Carroll and Gunnar Henderson. There will likely be more to come as vets get rested and teams want to give their young guys a lower pressure setting to get their first taste of the bigs. My advice, always bid on these guys, even if it’s just a dollar or two. Many teams have either dropped out of the running or could be looking at a specific need to fill their roster.
Notable Schedules:
Eight games: Brewers, Giants
Seven games: Orioles (DH), White Sox, Twins, Yankees, Cardinals, Blue Jays, (DH) Nationals
Five games: Braves
12 Team Adds
Jose Quintana (STL/SP) A “boring old guy” but good team context. Moreover, he currently lines up against the Nationals and Pirates next week. (1-2% FAAB)
Jimmy Herget (LAA/RP) – Herget has solid numbers on the year, a 2.70 ERA (3.11 SIERA) along with a serviceable 25% k-rate, and a nice 5.8% BB-rate. Jimmy’s recorded three saves over the last week and appears to be the guy for the rest of the year. (1% FAAB)
Corbin Carroll (ARI/OF) – Carrol has elite speed and good pop. He stole 31 bases and hit 23 homers across 91 games in the minors this year. He has been okay in his four games (4-17 with 2 doubles) and is currently hitting 6th for the Diamondbacks. (4-8% but really, whatever you can afford)
Gunnar Henderson (BAL/SS,3B) – Henderson is one of the top prospects in baseball. It’s easy to see why. As he’s been electric in his three games so far. Already recording a home run and a steal (5 for 12 w/2 k’s). (6-9% but really, whatever you can afford)
15 Team Adds
Ken Waldichuk (OAK/SP) – Waldichuk is a raw product with plenty of swing and miss in his game. He threw 93 pitches in his debut and will have tough sledding against the White Sox and Astros his next two turns. Adding him is a strikeout play, don’t chase here if looking for ratios. (1% FAAB)
Gavin Sheets (CWS/OF,DH) – Sheets has been playing nearly every over the last ten with the absence of Luis Robert. Since 8/23, he’s slashed .387/.459/.710. It’s hard to say how long Robert will be out but as long as Sheets stays hot, he should find himself in the lineup. (1-3% FAAB)
Bubba Thompson (TEX/OF) – Thompson has no power to speak of. However, he has 10 steals in 78 ABs and should be a helpful speed boost down the stretch. (1% FAAB)
Elehuris Montero (COL/3B) – The Rockies have six games at home this week and should see at least three lefties. (1% FAAB)
Keston Hiura (MIL/1B) – Hiura hasn’t been able to get his strikeout problems under control. Which has led to very inconsistent playing time. However, he’s started five of the last six and will get a trip to Coors this week. (1% FAAB)
