My Mets stack didn’t cash last week, but we’re still on a nice little Tuesday run here with Razzball picks. For anyone interested there are quite a few of us DFS writers at Razzball in a contest to raise money for Emily Waldon’s (@emilycwaldon) GoFundMe to help with her medical bills as she fights cancer. We have a contest every Friday with ultimate bragging rights on the line each week, and for the season. Follow along @RealDFSWars on Twitter.
I’ll be bringing you my DFS picks for the main evening slate on Tuesday, August 16th, 2022. If you play on DraftKings, it is a 13-game slate starting at 6:05 Central time. This article will be primarily focused on the DraftKings slate, so if you play on Fanduel I encourage you to sign up for the DFS tools to help you make the best decisions for your lineups on FanDuel, DraftKings, and Yahoo.
New to DFS? You can start playing right now on FanDuel and put our picks to the test. If you’re scared of feeling like a small fish in a big pond, be sure to read our content and subscribe to the DFS Bot for your daily baseball plays. Just remember to sign up through us before jumping into the fray, it helps support your Razzball team!
Merrill Kelly, SP: $9,600. Another board with bunches of high price options. The two most expensive Justin Verlander and Dylan Cease will face off head to head for the inside track on the Cy Young. I didn’t want to try and pick the winner there so I landed on Kelly. Merrill Kelly has allowed 11 ER since July 1st over 53.1 IP. While the xFIP says he is due for some regression I don’t see it coming against this Giants lineup on a night game by the bay.
Jose Quintana, SP: $7,800. Q just shut down the Rockies in Coors and there’s no reason to think he won’t repeat the performance this week in St Louis. He’s been lights out his last four starts and I want to ride the Q-Express to a cash.
Jonah Heim, C: $3,700. There are many days looking at DFS where I just can’t figure out the pricing. Heim has been very cool going 7 of 8 starts without a hit prior to last weekend. He also had some tough pitching match-ups facing the Astros and the White Sox in that stretch. The Rangers will get their first career shot at JP Sears who is making his fourth career start. Sears has a 2.30 ERA currently, but the K/9 is under 6 and the xFIP is at 4.41. Could be a good night to play some right-handed Rangers in Texas.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 1B: $5,900. Let’s talk about the Orioles Dean Kremer vs the Blue Jays. Against the expected Blue Jays lineup he has given up 5 Home Runs in 28 career At-Bats. Kremer has been better this year, but his K-Rate is still under 7K/9IP. The xFIP is at 4.50 so regression is still coming. What better place than in Toronto on Tuesday night? Vladdy? He has 2 of those 5 Home Runs off Kremer.
Vaughn Grissom, 2B: $2,000. He faces a solid pitcher in Taijuan Walker Tuesday night, but at rock bottom prices I have to ride the rookie nookie here with 2 Home Runs in his first five career games.
Austin Riley, 3B: $5,400. The Braves chased Taijuan Walker after 1 inning of work and 8 Earned Runs on August 5th. Riley did not homer in that contest but is 3 for 6 with a Home Run off Walker in his career.
Nico Hoerner, SS: $4,600. The Patrick Corbin angle comes into play here, but Corbin aside Hoerner has put together a very solid year at the dish. Hitting .303 with a .773 OPS that places him 7th among qualifying Shortstops in OPS. He’s not going deep as often as some higher-tier options, but he’s certainly been more productive than his price tag compared to the competition.
Eddie Rosario, OF: $2,700. Rosario is a shell of his 2020 and earlier self nowadays, but he homered off Taijuan in their last game and I was looking for value in the outfield first amongst all my hitter selections.
Mitch Haniger, OF: $3,900. Another guy who is undervalued on the board. Here is a fun fact: He has hit safely in every game since coming back from the IL. He’s seeing the ball good already, and the power will follow. He will face Jose Suarez on Tuesday and is only 2 for 13 career against him, I’m just gonna say he is due.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr., OF: $4,200. We will finish up with Lourdes Gurriel Jr. He also has 2 Career Home Runs vs Dean Kremer. Nuff Said.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
Rain Chances abound Tuesday, but not looking like anything too serious. Minnesota, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Cincinnati, D.C., and Atlanta could all see some showers.
Doing Lines In Vegas
I did mention I do a bit of Sports Handicapping. Follow me on Twitter @TheGreatKnoche for more info. I’ll give out a Free Play here every Tuesday, but you can find all my free and premium picks for MLB and a few other sports at The Odds Breakers
I don’t like a whole lot of writing, but I am leaning towards a Miami F5 play against the Padres if they get to +165.
