Ah, the end of August. The dog days of summer. Beautiful sunsets, smoking barbecues, poolside beverages chilled to an icy goodness…everything is almost perfect…unless you are gearing up for BACK TO SCHOOL!
I’m sure that parents of those ‘super active’ kids are more than ready to send their little darlings back to their respective buildings of book learnin’, but there are also undoubtedly some that are sad to see the summer come to an end. Francisco Lindor (DK: $5,700) is one of the latter and, like Rodney Dangerfield from Back To School, is a guy coming into the year that could claim “I get no respect”.
After three 30+ homer seasons (and the Covid summer) Lindor had a less than elite start to his Mets career. He was still considered a top 10 SS, but was being cast as an overvalued draft day choice. With 21 HR, 80+ R and RBI, and 14 SB before the end of August, Lindor is well on his way to another top summer showing that should push him back up into the top tier of SS. His numbers against LHP haven’t stood out as a huge advantage in splits, but 6 of his homers have been at home vs lefties. I’d take him at Citi Field (I actually wrote Shea originally) against Tyler Anderson and hope for some smooth ‘Triple Lindy’ athleticism from this Back To School MVP candidate today.
Otherwise, we have a good split of games on the list today. There are 6 afternoon starts if you want to get a game in early (2:05 PM ET) with AL Player of the Week Nathaniel Lowe and the Rangers at home against the Astros. The evening slate starts at 7:05 PM ET with a basement battle of Oakland at Washington. I’ll do my best to fill the DFS group today with players from this 9 game night lineup, but a couple are from the late afternoon games.
I know I say it each week, but it bears repeating. If you’re looking for that competitive edge in DFS or your season long leagues you’ve obviously come to the right place (Razzball). Jacob deGrom, SP: (DK) $11,500 – Coming in at 60.4 on Streamonator, deGrom is the top pitcher for today, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. Although deGrom is facing the Dodgers, he’s at home and has shown no signs of rust since coming back from the shoulder injury. His K/9 is up over 14 again, he’s given up more than 2 earned runs in just one of his 5 starts since his return, and he has a 46:2 K:BB ratio in 29.1 IP. He’ll cost a lot of DFS dollars to play, but this is the big fish in today’s DFS pond.
Kyle Wright, SP: (DK) $9,800 – Kyle Wright at home today vs Colorado is good enough for the 4th spot on Streamonator (37.1). The Razzslam FAAB darling has continued to produce from a strong first half and has had a quality start in 6 of 7 since July 14th. He’s done better against RHH, so with apologies to Charlie Blackmon and the other Colorado LHH, I think he’ll have a good chance to shut the Rockies down at home today.
Shea Langeliers, C: (DK) $3,400 – I wanted to play Danny Jansen here today after he had a huge night on Sunday against the Cubs, but there isn’t a guarantee that both he and Kirk are in the lineup. So I decided to go with Hittertron and slot in the top option there (23.0). Langeliers was Knoche’s catcher yesterday and has a good balance of potential production with a lower price tag. Both he and Sean Murphy have been getting time behind the plate and at DH, so he should be in the lineup against an equally disappointing Washington squad for this one. It helps that Anibal Sanchez is giving up a .614 SLG% to RHH too.
Albert Pujols, 1B: (DK) $2,000 – Yes, I went here again. The Machine has been on an absolute tear the last few weeks as he charges towards that magical 700th home run. He hit his 15th of the season (career #694) off of Ross Detwiler Monday night and gets another LHP in Mike Minor in this one. Pujols has a .387 average against lefties and is hitting close to .300 (.292) on the road. I like his chances of adding to that home run total in Cincinnati tonight.
Andres Gimenez, 2B/SS: (DK) $5,600 – Grey and B-Don went over Gimenez in the podcast this week, so I’ll keep my information here to a minimum. His splits between RHP/LHP and home and away aren’t all that different, but it’s been good to see Gimenez having an August that is closer to his June (.326 average) than his July (.259). A season line of 15/15 for HR/SB and a triple slash line of .302/.365/.492 means that this guy is no longer considered the lesser of the two middle infielders that the Guardians got for Lindor.
Alec Bohm, 3B: (DK) $4,700 – Hittertron has Bohm as the 9th ranked 3B in today’s games and against an LHP on the road things look pretty promising. Bohm’s L/R splits show that games like this are ideal plays for him. He’s hitting .359 vs LHP (vs .266 v RHP) and has even better numbers against southpaws on the road. Arizona isn’t exactly Baghdad, but we could see some Bohms over Chase Field in the desert tonight.
Nick Gordon, OF: (DK) $2,200 – I wanted to go big on a chalk OF here, but the deGrom and Wright plays at SP really dinged the DFS wallet so I spun the wheel of affordability (no, it’s not really a thing) and came up with Nick Gordon at home against Michael Wacha. With the injury to Byron Buxton, Gordon has seen an increase in playing time starting every game but one over the last 10. He’s hitting 20 points higher vs RHP and hit 6th (starting at 2B) against the Red Sox last night. He could give you some counting stats and SB here today. (Editor’s Note: This article was in fact submitted just before Nick Gordon went ham last night)
Corbin Carroll, OF: (DK) $2,000 – I figured we could sneak at least one lower-priced play in today for our OF spots, and this one comes up as a top prospect in Corbin Carroll. Called up on Monday, (and discussed at length on this week’s pod by the guys), C.C SaBATia promptly hammered out a double, scored two runs, and drove in two. A 5 tool prospect at the top of anyone’s list, Carroll is certainly not up to ride the pine. Even though Hittertron has him at 74 for OF today, I’d still take him at $2,000 at home against the Phillies.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains…
We had some rain run through the eastern parts of the country yesterday, but things look like clear sailing for today!
Doing Lines In Vegas…
I like the OVER of 9 total runs in the Arizona/Philly matchup.
For an underdog, I’m going back to Knoche’s pick yesterday of KC over CWS. I think Bubic at +190 could pay out nicely against a White Sox team that looks pretty lost and has Lance Lynn coming off a bereavement leave.
And just for one final shout-out to the title and lede here, I’m going to add in a scene that is about as close to perfection as far as 80’s movies are concerned. I still can’t watch this without giggling. Hopefully, your DFS lineup is as flawless as Rodney Dangerfield’s Triple Lindy execution. Enjoy!
