Here, friend, are some catchers that I will be targeting at my 2026 fantasy drafts after the top options are gone. I’m not going to get into the strategy of punting catchers. Been there, half-drunkenly wrote that during the Ottoman Empire. Click on the player’s name where applicable to read more and see their 2026 projections and blurbs I wrote for them. This is a (legal-in-most-countries) supplement to the top 20 catchers of 2026 fantasy baseball. (Yes, I will go over each position.) Now, guys and five girl readers, I am not saying avoid catchers like Yainer Diaz if they fall, but, to get on this list, a catcher needs to be drafted after 200 overall, and, yes, I will go around the entire infield, outfield and pitchers to target very late. In regards to the ADP in the parenthesis, NFBC is for two catcher leagues, so that should be taken into account. One other note, I think we’ve lost Yahoo rankings. I don’t think they exist anymore. Rest now, Yahoo, I will see you in Vahalla. So, we’re going with ESPN and NFBC. Anyway, here’s some catchers to target for 2026 fantasy baseball:

PSYCHE! Before the recap, just wanted to say my top 500 and all my 2026 fantasy baseball rankings are updated as soon as possible (yesterday, Konnor Griffin and Kevin McGonigle were updated in the shortstops rankings). Also, Rudy’s War Room is updated multiple times per day, and in-season subscriptions are open for business. Buy a subscription and save a cowboy. Anyway II, the sleeper catchers post:

Samuel Basallo (ESPN 236) The good news is Razzball is your last stop for fantasy baseball rankings. The bad news is it’s your first stop too. It’s also your 2nd thru 15th stop. If I croak out like a frog in boiling water that was testing a theory about frogs in boiling water, I don’t know what you’re going to do. I say this because I’m looking at Yahoo for the first time, and they’re not really doing rankings anymore. They laid off most of their team and what’s left is not Yahoo rankings. Then there’s ESPN’s rankings, and, well, I’m being polite when I say, I don’t really understand what they’re ranking for half the time, and there’s zero explanation. For unstints, Hurston Waldrep is out with elbow surgery; it’s been weeks now this was announced, so how is he ranked at 250 overall, before guys like Shane Smith, Ryne Nelson and countless others? Is ESPN actually paying attention to their rankings? I honestly don’t think so. Finally, I appreciate NFBC, but that’s ADP, it’s not rankings. So, it’s basically me ranking. I’m the only one still doing fantasy baseball rankings. Don’t like it? Too bad! I mention that now because is Basallo really going at 236 as ESPN has him ranked? Like they used to say before booking Gwen Stefani’s band, doubt it. By the way, if I’m the only one ranking, it would explain why Fantasy Pros has this to say:

Kyle Teel (ESPN 241) NFBC is at 180 for Teel, so he wasn’t included in the parenthesis, but that’s a two-catcher schematic, so you take that with a grain of salt or Mrs. Dash, if you want it to pop. White Sox are going to be a bit of a mess, likely still, but Teel could be decent-ish. His HardHit% was 32.6% and he stole 12 bags in the minors in 2024. His season last year was 16/10 when combining majors and minors and he hit .273 in the majors. He does 16/10/.270 in the majors, hitting out of the top three spots? You can do worse.

Ryan Jeffers (ESPN NR, NFBC 275) For every player I list in just about every post I write, I go to Roster Resource to doublecheck a guy is the starter. It’s a good doublecheck to make sure I haven’t forgotten anyone. Thankfully, I don’t think I have for the Twins, but I think the Twins might’ve forgot someone. Namely, a DH or a backup catcher. They have Ryan Jeffers as the everyday catcher and Victor Caratini as the everyday DH? I’m sorry, I doubted you, Baldelli, you’re much smarter than I gave you credit for. You got out out of that mess just in time.

Francisco Alvarez (ESPN NR) If it’s any consolation to ESPN not ranking Alvarez, if Yahoo still did rankings, they would’ve been too low on Fran-Al, too. Not ranking a guy at all for a guy going 172nd overall in NFBC? Well, I don’t know. Feels a little off. I would draft Francisco Alvarez in every league if you gave me the chance. Sadly, I’m not in every league. I skip one draft every preseason. I only have time for 45,987 drafts a year.

Carter Jensen (ESPN 272) I am admittedly low on Carter Jensen too in my top 500. I don’t love Jansen like some, but I have ranked him and would draft him late, just in case he goes straight bizzonkers. His minor league numbers do jump off the page: 20/10/.290 in 427 ABs. You need to be wearing your 3D glasses for them to jump off the page. For what it’s Cronenworth, there is zero projections system saying to draft Jansen. Rudy has him ranked at 425-something with the projections of 9/3/.243.

Edgar Quero (ESPN NR, NFBC 425) You know what I said for Jeffers? If you don’t, get your medulla oblongata checked. It needs a tuneup. Well, it’s sorta same as Quero, because Quero is currently the everyday DH, according to Roster Resource. I don’t know if that’s accurate; I actually doubt it is, but he could sneak into 400 ABs. Will he be in good in 400 ABs? He’s going at 425 overall in a two-catcher league, what do you think? Rudy has Quero ranked above Jensen. ¿Yo Quero el catchero? Sí. He will be 23 in April, and went 16/1/.280 in 2024 as a 21-year-old. See, that’s how ages work.

Hey Grey!

Konnor Griffin question today. How early would you take him in a 10 team 5×5 keep 4 at round value, 3 year contracts, one round inflation each year?

It may be moot because someone might literally take him in round one or two, just curious where you’d peg him in this format. Thank you sir!

16 team H2H pts keeper league.

Keep Jac Caglianone in the 7th or Nick Pivetta in the 11th?

Thanks

Grey! It feels like years!! Hope all’s been well. My NFBC draft’s tomorrow at 12est.

I need to know; would you rather draft from a position of 1-4, 5-8, or 9-12 this year? And what’s your actual favorite spot?

Thanks,

Jolt

Profar. Shocking. So much for that 28 hr pace he had last year. So much for thinking they won’t bother to check again because nobody is dumb enough to try to get away with it again after just getting busted

12teamer, H2H, ten hitting cats, nine pitching. Thoughts on this team.
Agustin
Stewart, N Marte, Aranda
K Marte, Adames, Altuve
Tucker, Chourio, Belli, Kwan, Reynolds
Util: Varsho or Wilson
Webb, Valdez, Luzardo, S Gray, T Rogers, Musgrove
Uribe, Erceg, Finnegan, L Weaver
(Saves and holds separate cats. I don’t worry too much about RP until late in the year. I grab these guys late and adjust as roles get clarified come playoff time).
Thank you

Hey Grey.

I have the first pick in an 8 team 7×7 daily roto redraft.

Our hitting categories include AVG, OBP and SLG.

Judge or Ohtani (hitter only in Yahoo)?

Not catcher related, but wanted to ask the most accurate draft expert a keeper question (i’m keeping a catcher, so maybe its relevant…)

16 team ESPN H2H categories with a lot of categories:
AB, H, R, HR, RBI, BB, SB, AVG, OBP, SLG, Field Pct.
IP, ER, K, QS, W, L, SV, HD, ERA, WHIP, K/9

12 keepers allowed/required.

Trade my Bregman for Wesburg and Bradish?

Current roster:
Agustin, Freeman, Keaschall, Bregman, CJ Abrams
Collins – LF, No one in CF, Beavers – RF
Weatherholt – Util
BN – Arraeaz, Trout, Santander

SP – Bubic, Bubba, Shane Smith, Noah Cameron, Schwellenbach, J. Lopez, Senga, Manaea, Ryne, McGreevy, Sproat, Harrison

RP – Palencia, Uribe, Whitlock, Romero,

Current plan for keepers (maybe):
Agustin, Freeman, Keaschall, Bregman, CJ, Weatherholt
Bubic, Bubba, Smith, Cameron, Schwellenbach, Palencia

Thoughts on the trade?
Thoughts on keepers?

Thanks!

I like the idea of getting Bradish to basically be the ace of my staff…

I took over the team prior to last season, so only had so much to work with. But for a 16 team league, I don’t think its terrible….made the playoffs, but just barely last year….

If I take the trade, keepers would probably be:
Agustin, Freeman, Keaschall, Westburg, Abrams, Weatherholt
Bradish, Bubba, Bubic, Schwell…..plus 2 others.

Thoughts on those potential 2 keepers? Or swap something else? Keep Beavers instead of a pitcher?

Thanks

No limits on how long you keep a player. Would be hard to give up Schwell at this point, I think….

Must keep 12 and they get entered as our first 12 rounds of the draft before we draft.

I like Smith and Cameron as well….could just pass on keeping Palencia and roll with all SPs.

Agustin, Freeman, Keaschall, Westburg, Abrams, Weatherholt
Bradish, Bubba, Bubic, Schwell, Smith, Cameron

Doesn’t look terrible in a 16 team league (?)
A bit rough rolling into the season without an OF on the roster, but which of them would be worth keeping, and over whom?

Fair enough. But at least there is some youth and upside.

Like Beavers or one of the other OFs over the SPs? We start LF, CF, RF rather than just OF.

Not bummed out….always work to do in season..

You like Smith or Cameron better to keep if I were to keep Beavers?

Thanks for all you do!

NL only league with the following categories: R HR RBI SB OBP, K ERA WHIP QS SV+H

I can keep 2 without cost, here’s who I’m considering: Freeman, Chourio, Cruz, Glasnow, Burns, Sasaki

It’s only an 8-team league so if the player isn’t in the top 16 players (with these categories and considerations), really not worth keeping.

Would you keep any?

Saw that you moved K Griffin way up in the rankings and boosted his projections. How confident are you that the Pirates will not send him down for two months like they did with Skenes? Super talent from the looks of him so far.

The team was starting to look low battering average and the 20 steals felt good there. Frelick was 119 on the rater. A lot tied to average though. just kind of boring solid guy that, at least for us, seemed to fit the team.

Do you think James Wood puts it together this year? His 2nd half and strikeout rate concern me as does the Nats being a 50 win team….What say you?

Morning Grey,

Relatively convoluted keeper system – long and short, can only likely keep one of the below for the next 2 years, but can keep 2 this year. 10 Team ESPN Roto League (massive rosters) – Pitching cats = W, L, K, ERA, WHIP

Who do you keep:

Emmet Sheehan
Jacob Misiorowski
Jesus Luzardo

I know long term, Mis and Sheehan likely it, but given it’s really a shortish term thing, I’m torn.

Appreciate the input!

I’m setting my keepers soon and have a couple of players I’m on the fence about because of cost. Mind to give me your thoughts?

C
1B/OF Burleson $7
2B McLain $12
3B Suarez $12
SS Abrams $12
MI/2B Polanco $4
CI/3B Durbin $4
OF Acuna $35
OF Reynolds $20 (is he worth this price?)
OF Abreu $7
OF
DH Herrera $4 (planning to move to C when he gains eligibility)

Bench
Bench

SP Eovaldi $23
SP Misiorowski $4
SP Strider $17
SP Pivetta $12
SP Pepiot $29 (is he worth this price?)
SP Rasmussen $7
SP Chandler $4

RP Joyce $4

I have $315 to spend on the auction+keepers, and the roster above is $217. Reynolds and Pepiot are the two I’m on the fence about. Like them both fine but they are over-costed. Would you toss them back or keep them at those prices? 12-team league.

Hey Grey (and anyone else who has a thought), I’m looking for some 2 C insight. My auction keeper league just moved to a 2C roster setup similar to the NFBC (5 OF, CI, MI, 1 UTIL; $268 budget) and I’m trying to determine the right C strategy. I can keep Goodman ($6), Rice ($19), and/or Sal Perez ($16). I hate the idea of spending $16-$19, but Rice/Perez should get a ton of ABs playing 1B.

I’m leaning toward keeping Goodman and Rice, as both a 2C and 1B/CI hedge. Thoughts?

It’s a great thought if a budget wasn’t a concern. Keep Goodman, get a $1 second catcher late. Get a better 1st baseman than Rice or Perez.

I like your plan. Catcher is generally thin and $1 catchers are usually not worth what you pay for them. Prefer Rice over Perez

I like Gabby Moreno. Hits 4th. Career .281 hitter. Doesn’t strike out. Hits the ball hard. Flashed a little power last year with 9 homers in 271 ABs. 26 prime years old. Just needs health. All the pieces are there.

That’s “Catchers to Tar-Zhay” if you’re a wine mom circa 1997.

Though if you have the ability to time travel why are you wasting it on fantasy baseball? Oh, I see, you can only travel forward and warn us about stuff that already happened, like Todd Hundley’s elbow? OK, that’s fair. I have other questions but I’ll jump back in line for them.
