FanDuel: Infinite Possibilities

According to the Gregorian calendar, today is Sunday, June 9th, 2019, and we are in a universe with no specific name, because it’s the only one we know. In this vast universe we are in a galaxy we call the Milky Way, in a solar system named Our, and on planet Earth, trying to predict what specific people near us will be doing with a bat and a ball. That may sound impossible to predict, but we can usually narrow down the probabilities to identify the likeliest outcomes and relay that information here. Today is not that day. Apologies.

Today there are literally (not literally) an infinite number of best possible lineups in the FanDuel Main Slate.

What contributes to this lack of certainty? It’s all about the flux of players’ salaries in relation to their likely outcomes. Likely outcomes are determined by past events, current match-ups, and how weather conditions affect these probabilities. So, what we see here is a higher than average number of players who are fairly priced, given their likely range of outcomes, and fewer players who are likely to out earn their salaries.

June is here, which means we are already a third of the way through the season. Time flies, I’ll tell you what. It seems like only yesterday this season was just getting started, now it’s full speed ahead and breaking home run records. It happens fast. Today we have an interesting seven game main slate on FanDuel. To differentiate our lineups we’ll focus on weather, and not just for postponement risk. FanDuel: The Detroit Vs. Wheelers

What a great weekend to honor the memories of those who have fallen for our benefit, allowing us to be here, to freely enjoy even as simple a pleasure in life as daily fantasy sports.

Today we are enjoying a ten game Main Slate on FanDuel, and hopefully some nice weather and even nicer company. Let’s get to it today; let’s fire up our grills and throw on some Motown Soul in anticipation of Zack Wheeler ($9,500) making Detroit look like Mitch Ryder’s senior softball league. Or at least trying to – we should hedge our bets, this is not a sure thing.  Facing Detroit has generally been very positive for opposing pitching this season. They have the second fewest runs scored and home runs to this point, and are striking out at a rate well above league average. Even though the hitting conditions in Queens are some of the more favorable today, Wheeler should still flirt with double digit strikeouts.

Let’s give it our all today. Play with honor, commitment, and make it a Memorial Day weekend to memorialize by taking down a tournament.

FanDuel: When’d Wind Winned

Great Sunday to you, Sunday Brunchers. Try to keep those hats on.

We have ten games on the FanDuel Main Slate today, and almost all will be significantly effected by wind. Let us hope we can break this wind together. Let’s crop dust the rest of the field and use the wind to our advantage.

In each of these games wind should provide a great advantage to hitters, given the speed, direction, and air density. Any pitcher with a poor fly ball to ground ball ratio or who relies on movement or deception to induce weak contact should be faded or avoided entirely:
• Baltimore Orioles at Cleveland Indians, wind at 18 to 21 mph to center, positive VMI for hitters, temps in the mid 80’s
• Colorado Rockies at Philadelphia Phillies, wind at 12 mph to left/center, temps in the 80’s
• Los Angeles Dodgers at Cincinnati Reds, wind to left at 16 mph gives a bump to right handed hitters
• Toronto Blue Jays at Chicago White Sox, wind to left at 17 mph bumps right handed hitters
• Houston Astros at Boston Red Sox, wind to left/center at 15 mph
• Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees, wind to left at 12 mph
• St. Louis Cardinals at Texas Rangers, wind to right at 9 mph, temps in the 80’s

Games with more room for error than usual for pitchers:
• Milwaukee Brewers at Atlanta Braves, wind in from right at 10 mph counter the usual positive hitting conditions in Atlanta
• Oakland Athletics at Detroit Tigers, wind in from right at 16 to 18 mph and light rain to end the game counter otherwise positive hitting conditions in Detroit
• New York Mets at Miami Marlins, wind in from center at 11 mph, matters only if roof is open

FanDuel: A Good Snell And Odor

Happy Mother’s Day to us all! Whether we are momful or momless, hopefully we have a good Snell and Odor in our FanDuel DFS kitchen today. And hopefully we have awesome food in our after brunch bellies, as well.

If you are momful, and scrambling for a quick way to make a routine brunch extra special for mom, try adding sweet cream and fresh fruit to your french toast or pancakes, rather than relying on syrup and butter.

For the sweet cream, the key is to whisk the heavy cream in an ice cold metal bowl, so put that large metal bowl in the freezer straight away.

Take your coffee grinder and grind two tablespoons of sugar with a healthy pinch of cinnamon and a little nutmeg. Do not overdo the nutmeg and don’t worry too much about residual coffee grounds in your sweet cream, or sugar in your future coffee grounds. This process pulverizes the sugar and incorporates the spices, creating a more flavorful powdered sugar to sweeten the whipped cream.

Take your metal bowl and whisk the pint of heavy cream, adding the pulverized sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla extract as you start to see the cream stiffen. Continue whisking only until peaks in the cream can be formed and hold the shape. Put this all over brunch; on fruit, pancakes, french toast, in coffee, on faces. It’s all good.

And that’s all there is to it. You’ve made something very simple that adds a certain appeal to the meal you don’t ordinarily get. Special for mom, how nice.

We have eight games on the FanDuel Main Slate today. There are a few potential rain concerns, so we’ll need to keep our eye to the sky and avoid those PPDs.

We need to always avoid PPDs. But what’s the best way to do this? Abstinence? Sure, that’s always the safest way to go. At the same time, you’ll miss some opportuntiy there, which can lead to regret. Sometimes we need to take risks, we just need to be smart about it.

FanDuel: Paxt(ing)on The Pounds

For many of us today is a day of celebration; we spend time with community, with family, we eat way too freaking much, and it is glorious. May fat and happy be the goal for us all today. Let’s fill our waistlines, lean back and enjoy the feast before us.

And what better way to pack on the pounds than with James Paxton ($9,600). It was meant to be; we have to play him. It’s a good thing he’s also a great value. He should be the cornerstone of our lineup construction this slate. He is coming off a 70 point performance against Boston, he has elite velocity that gets better as the game rolls on, and he is facing a team that is in the bottom tier against LHP. Paxton is the best value on the slate by a good margin, and he should be owned in a sizable chunk of our lineups, possibly upwards of 40-50 percent.  Now, let’s take a look at the rest of our favorite picks for the FanDuel main slate.

Good Sunday to you, FanDuel DFSers. Grab yourself a bloody and let’s settle in for the first Sunday slate of the baseball season. What a fantastic day to be alive.

But, first let’s discuss finances, shall we?

Each Sunday of the FanDuel series we’d like to briefly dive into a topic slightly deeper in the world of DFS. We can discuss strategy, explore different contests, take a look at tools offered here at Razzball, and hopefully have a great time making consistent improvement to our DFS process.

On this first Sunday of the season, before we look at individual players, let’s take a quick look at the foundation of every successful DFS strategy, just to make sure we are on the same page. What we are talking about as the foundation of a successful DFS process, of course, is bankroll management – identifying, and managing, risk. This is something we hear often, and the thought of it, as is likely the case right now on this beautiful Sunday, wafts about us like a freshly laid turd.
