League Rules/ Structure Qs

Have something to say about your experiences using Y!, ESPN, CBSSports.com, etc. for online leagues, mock drafts, player analysis, etc? Here's where to post it...

League Rules/ Structure Qs

Postby royce! » Tue Feb 02, 2010 5:03 pm

So some of the owners in my Yahoo h2h league with weekly changes are advocating allowing either daily changes or a limited number of daily changes (I think the person who is spearheading it might just be busy on Sundays, to his detriment, so he wants to be able to make changes later in the week).

I have a couple of Qs I'd like resolved before I place my vote.

First, has anyone else played in a weekly h2h with limited in-week changes, and if so, has it been any more fun, or as I presume, unduly complex?

Do ESPN or Yahoo support such a structure?

Other owners in my league think that such a change would yield crazy draft strategies, such as drafting all offense and streaming mediocre matchup pitchers... my gut tells me this is wrong (because it rarely succeeds in simple roto), but am I missing something?

Anyhow, I'd really appreciate any advice. Having just returned from a difficult oral argument, my mind does not appear willing to analyze this issue.

Thanks.

Limited number of daily changes? I don't think ESPN and Yahoo even support that. They might support limited number of weekly changes. Not sure... I don't like weekly changes vs. daily changes, because I hate waking up on Monday and seeing my hitter's out for a three days. But if I'm going to do weekly, H2H is the way to do it to avoid streaming which can really make H2H unfair. Unfair in your favor if you want to take the time to stream because you can manipulate it. I'd still prefer daily...

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

I think I might not have been clear- I meant that the person is advocating allowing people to change their rosters on a daily basis, so that, as you observe, if someone gets hurt on Monday one could plausibly replace them for the rest of that week. So the person is wanting to either allow us to change our roster a limited or unlimited amount of times per week, as opposed to having to set one's roster before Monday and then not be able to switch anyone out for a week.

That said, assuming that switching to roto is off the table, in a h2h league you think that no changes during the week>limited weekly changes>unlimited weekly changes (so as to avoid the unfairness of streaming)? Or am I getting that back asswards?

Sorry for being dense this afternoon.

No problems, I probably just missed the gist. I agree with this -- "in a h2h league you think that no changes during the week>limited weekly changes>unlimited weekly changes." The problem is weekly changes are a pain because of the other reasons I mentioned.
