We’re hitting our stride coming into the home stretch like Cole Hocker trying to win the 1500-meter race. Putting the pressure on the rest of the field, Bobby Witt Jr. is doing his best to make the American League MVP race respectable. Hitting a cool .430 with seven homers and a combined 47 runs and RBIs over the last 30 days, he has us questioning everything about who should be the number one hitter for the rest of the season. As Witt shakes up the top of the order for our list this week, Jackson Holliday is also making up for lost time in Baltimore.  Holliday burst onto the scene launching homers in three straight games to announce his arrival. How far up does the youngster climb the rest of the season? Stay tuned to find out in this weekend’s edition of the Top 100 Hitters for the 2024 fantasy baseball season.

Rising

  • Tyler Fitzgerald – Sitting between Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Juan Soto on the last 30 days’ WAR leaderboard, Fitzgerald has been a top-five hitter over the last month. During that time, Fitzgerald hit .370 with ten homers and three steals, with only a slightly elevated BABIP. Hitting in San Francisco, this has the hallmarks of a hot streak rather than a new floor for the former Flying Squirrel. However, with time dwindling in the season and playoffs on the horizon, there’s no better time than now to ride the hot hand. You do you, Fitzgerald.
  • Jake Burger – Another hot hitter over the last month has been Jake Burger. He’s been bringing all the cheese, launching eleven homers with ample counting stats for the Marlins. Since July 2nd, nobody in the majors has delivered more in the power department than this slugger. Easy to overlook in Miami, Burger has remained a steady contributor and is poised to continue providing power without a significant penalty in the average department, sitting at .242 for the season.
  • Jackson Merrill – With all the young talent in the league, it seems Jackson Merrill continues to be an underappreciated asset. On the season, Merrill is the 52nd-ranked player on the Razzball Player Rater. Over the last month, he’s managed to hit .329 with four homers and three steals. This kind of steady production has the 21-year-old on his way to what looks like a potential 20/20 season in San Diego. He needs more love, and we’re here to lead that charge.
  • Vinnie Pasquantino – In my bold predictions for the second half of the fantasy baseball season, I called out Vinnie for his lack of power: “Vinnie has an 8% HR/FB rate, slightly below his career marks. However, he stands out with the hardest-hit balls among players with an HR/FB rate under 10%. A slight adjustment in launch angle could result in many more homers.” In his last ten games, he has now slugged six homers with 15 RBIs while hitting well over .300. This is the Vinnie we’ve all been waiting for.

Falling

  • Trea Turner – Turner was scorching going into the All-Star break, giving us hope that the perennial first-rounder had returned. However, that is now a distant memory as he has been a paltry version of himself since, hitting .169 with a single steal and two homers. There is ample skill, but when the results continue to disappoint, we have to ask ourselves what we’re really expecting to see. Turner will be hot and cold the rest of the season; just hope he’s hot when you need it most.

Watching

  • Brenton Doyle – Doyle was the NL Player of the Month for July with an unbelievable stretch resulting in 11 dingers and 27 RBI across the month. However, since the 27th of July, making up 13 games, he has just hit .149 resulting in a 33 wRC+. This is likely a minor cold stretch that was due after a sizzling July. However, Doyle does not jump as you might expect this week with a bit more of a watch in his profile.
  • Adrian Del Castillo – In his second season at Triple A Reno, Adrian hit .319 with 24 homers driving a promotion on the heels of Gabriel Moreno’s groin injury. Moreno is expected to be out an extended time giving Del Castillo a chance to do what he has at every level of the minors in being a flat out hitter. A three-hit game on Friday night with his first major league homer was a nice way to announce his entrance to the league. A catcher with power that can also hit for average will always drive a watchlist addition when looking at our Top 100 Hitters.
  • Tommy Edman – Embarking on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City, Edman is finally on his way back to the lineup for his new team in Los Angeles.  Edman is an easy watch for health as the Dodgers could use his versatility in the lineup.  Over the last three seasons coming into 2024, Edman averaged 12 homers and 30 steals each season with a respectable .260 average while playing all over the diamond.  Don’t be one of those folks that forgot about what he can do.
